Jenny is a ten year old girl like many others; she is interested in boys, in pleasing her parents and having fun with her friends Christine and Rachael. Jenny is a girl like any other, except that she was born male.
Over the past 6 years she has forgotten about the surgery that corrected her outside body to match her inside self, and she has also repressed the memories of her life before she became Jenny Milan. That is, until the memories suddenly invade her seemingly perfect life.
With patience and love, her parents guide her through the difficult labyrinth of repressed memories and deep emotional scars that resurface. All around her try to help her come to grips with the past, until the past snatches her away.
Highly emotional, deeply disturbing, here is one girls journey that so many others are forced to make.
This Trilogy, especially 'Finding Jenny', is definitely an emotional roller coaster! Having worked with abused children, I found this reading very inspiring and close to home. I believe Katie did a good job in presenting her Characters and their emotional states. One HUGE hindrance and irritant, for me, was the editing. All three books- at least the last two- had incorrect spelling, grammar and wording that I found very annoying and distracting. I also had a problem with the ages of Jenny and her peers. I didn't feel like they talked, thought and behaved as 10 year olds and that was distracting fro me as well. I would have felt that 12 or 13 would be more appropriate for their character roles and activities. For me it would have helped the story feel more realistic. I do feel Ms Leone is a very capable author and can feel her passion with issues and appreciated her inclusion of God and the Church/Church Family and my similar beliefs about the ties those aspects have on controversial issues and the importance of family cohesiveness. I am not sure I would recommend these reads to everyone, simply based on how I feel they would handle or enjoy or relate to the subject content of the books. But that number is minimal compared to the ones I would share I think it was a worthwhile purchase and read. I am not certain how Ms Leone is touched by her topic matter but from reading this trilogy and seeing titles of other novels she has written it is obviously something she is quite knowledgeable of and passionate about. I was moved by her words written and implied. I have not experienced another Author that has gone where Katie Leone dared to go. God Bless your Career and may you continue to touch hearts and souls through your works.
