Doch die familiäre Eintracht trügt, und die nächsten Wochen werden alles andere als Schönwettersegeln ...

Awww what a heartwarming rom com. Women's fiction at its best. The plot really picked up at the halfway point.
My only complaint is that the audio version needed three different narrators to represent the three different perspectives to add some dimension. The single narrator did a solid job but the overall theatrical performance was lacking.
For Drew's 50th birthday, he has planned a cruise. Unfortunately for his current wife Tess, he's invited his whole family including his two ex-wives, Mona and Sara. The story is told through the three wives' perspectives. On board, there is a whole lot of baggage (and I don't mean the kind with clothes in it), drama and romance as the three women discover who they are and what they really want in life.
Drew Gold has decided the best way to celebrate his 50th birthday is taking the entire family on a luxury cruise. The thing is that to Drew family doesn't stop with his current wife, Tess. Drew has also invited Sarah, Drew's first wife and also Mona, Drew's second wife who replaced Sarah.
Sarah has been in an emotional hibernation since her rough divorce with Drew so she plans on using this opportunity to get out and reinvent herself. But Mona on the other hand wants nothing more than to win Drew back into her life. So with all of the wives along with children and current spouses the birthday cruise turns into one drama filled twist after another.
The Other Wives Club was a really fun fast paced read perfect for a laugh and a bit of lighthearted drama filled entertainment. This one was really close to being a higher rating for me if it weren't for just trying to keep track of all the different characters involved and getting to know who was who during the story.
I'd say this one reminds me of those old prime time drama TV shows that you didn't know from week to week who was going to end up with who. A guilty pleasure in that form and this book ranks right up there with them with the added bonus for me of it being set aboard a cruise ship which I absolutely love.
Overall, great read that I would recommend checking out for some juicy drama aboard the high seas.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
My first Shari Low read, I loved it and have already discovered she’s got more stories out on KU. I love that, a small subscription gets me loads of fabulous books....I couldn’t afford to buy them all, and as I’m a quick reader its a great bonus for me.
This book is just such fun, light and funny, and yet underneath all that froth there’s some serious drama going on. Fabulous characters, I loved Sarah and the t it cakes... “wheeled out an enormous bosom, its modesty protected only by a huge white frilly marzipan bra” Can’t you just picture it? When she’s talking to one of the others about work stress, she says that at least for her the stress only comes in the form of a misplaced nipple... She was a wonderful mother, had a great friend in Patsy, and was still fond of Drew, though she could see his faults. When she described their marriage, how one teacher thought she was a widow as Drew was never there through all their son’s schooldays, how every event got cancelled, or she’d go to it alone because of yet another work crisis, I felt so, so sad for her, but she’s not bitter. She can see that its part of Drew, and that's why things didn’t work for them, his job came first. Of course his fling with the eventual second Mrs Gold, Mona, the b itch who still works with him didn’t help. Through Sarah’s eyes we can see how manipulating she was, that she didn’t care if he was married, wasn’t bothered about his kids, she wanted him and that was it. Mona hasn’t changed, although now she’s married to Piers, another rich guy, richer than Drew which is just as well the way she spends money. He’s on the cruise too, along with his son from an earlier marriage, Max, and we see that she’s still Mrs Manipulative, having pushed events so that they all got invited. I loved Mona’s character, really nasty, jealous, manipulative characters like her add so much fun to a story. Its boring if everyone is good :-) Then there’s the current Mrs Gold, Tess. She’s much younger and loves Drew, but she is finding the cancelled meals, events, holidays hard to take. She’s got a wonderful friend Cameron, and they joke he’s the stand in for Drew, filling in at events Drew cancels. He drops a bombshell on Sarah right before the cruise. Surprisingly she gets on really well with Sarah on the cruise, they’ve not spent much time together before, but have that same sense of fun and adventure, and things conspire to throw them together a lot. She’s trying really hard to stop the cracks in their marriage from spreading, but it seems Drew is still the same work-comes-first person he was when he married Sarah.
There’s some fabulous humour here, some great lines that had me sniggering – the speedo shorts – who wears them apart from competitive swimmers? Budgie smugglers I saw them called once and its an apt name! There’s another quote after Sarah saw rather more than she wanted to of Mona’s gynaecological area and how bare it was, she decides hers too now needs a trim. “ Her lady garden wasn’t quite fully mowed, but it certainly wouldn’t be requiring a Flymo anytime soon” :-)
Alongside that humour though is the very real things that happen when such a disparate group of characters are thrown together. Drew seems so blinded to everything, doesn’t seem to see he’s repeating the mistakes that made his first marriage fail, just swans along blindly, dispensing bonhomie along with credit cards and cash. He’s a good man, means well but selfish really and so, so blind! Mona had an affair that ended their marriage, she’s been cheating on Piers for most of their marriage – and he’s not entirely innocent either- and now she’s tired of him. Its pretty clear where her desires lie now. Throughout there are little get togethers, big gatherings, dinners, breakfasts, spa visits, outings ashore and events that don’t always go to plan. I was wondering all the while did I want A to be with B? Did I think C would stay married or was D going to intervene, or maybe E might prove a stumbling block. And what about F, G and H? Where could they fit in? I had ideas about who I thought suited each other, who I wanted to be together but Shari kept me wondering, were they really right for each other or would they be better with someone else. How could that happen, and what now?
Its a book that kept me guessing right to the very end and was such a fun read, I loved it and am off to find what else Shari has written.
Its a story for when you want something light and fun, a book to make you laugh, but with characters that feel so real you are rooting for things to work out for them. Or not to work out for others!!
Stars: Five, a fabulous read full of humour, fun dramas and real emotion.

My thoughts: 📱19% 1:50:05 Ch. 4 - I was this close 👌🏾 to quitting. I still might. All of these characters have the same accent. I don't know who Scottish, English, or American because they all sound the same. Too many characters too soon, the story is dull and repetitive, and I only stuck around to get on the boat. Now that I'm here, we still haven't come across the storyline I was promised. I think I will quit. ~ I had to listen to the same script with a different cast 3 times in a row. I don't like anyone; the tagline hasn't happened, and the narrator isn't helping. If I get to 30%, I'll feel more invested, so I'm dropping it now. 📱51% 4:48:16 Ch. 11 - I'm still here. It got better in chapter 5. I recently read the Christian version of this trope, and I don't like it. 😞 The cruise is nice, the story not so much. 📱56% 5:15:29 Ch. 12 - 🙄 They are so whiny, even when they are supposed to be happy. I need to read pages. I don't know if it's the story or narrator, but I need a break. I also need chocolate for every time she says American.
Finally! I did not like this narrator at all; the majority of the cast was Scottish, but everybody had an English accents, even the Texan. The story is not something I would have picked up. I read the original UK blurb after 76% when I realized the scenario I was promised wasn't going to happen, and it was a completely different story that matched the book. I would not have read this book if I had known what it was actually about. If you are going to mislead readers, make sure it is a psychological thriller with results better than the advertisement. I bounced between 2.5 and 3 after the 50% mark. I settled on 2.5 with a round down because the ending gave me nauseating cheese vibes.
Recommend to others?: I don't know if you should read it, but I'm not endorsing it.
Delightfully entertaining, incredibly sweet, and extraordinarily funny!
This novel takes us on a rip-roaring vacation through the beautiful Mediterranean with the Gold family, complete with ex-wives, new wives, ex-husbands, new husbands, teenage children, grown children, and of course a couple of wee grandchildren.
The writing is seamless. The characterization is perfection. There are characters you love and characters you love to hate. And the plot has a profusion of family drama, emotion, sex, friendship, adultery, secrets, humour, and romance.
This novel truly is a sweet indulgence. I devoured it. And once again, Shari Low captivated, enthralled and thoroughly amused me from start to finish.
Thank you to NetGalley, especially Aria Fiction, for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Kept starting and stopping this one. Was a slow start but once I focused on it, it was quite gripping. So many love triangles but such a wonderful ending for most characters, I loved the friendships & relationships that developed.
The Other Wives Club by Shari Low is a title you should be jotting down to buy for yourself, a sister, a girlfriend - or basically anyone who enjoys a book that has a lot of humour and a great storyline with a few twists!
Drew Gold is a newspaper editor and workaholic who is currently married to Tess Gold. Tess is 28 years old and works in marketing. She often eats dinner alone, or with her best friend Cameron as Drew is always cancelling plans. He plans a trip on a cruise around the Mediterranean to celebrate his upcoming 50th birthday. But it's not just for him and Tess - he also asks his two ex-wives along!
Mona Gold is a fashion editor, 37 years old, and is now remarried to a man named Piers, and has a step-son. She reminded me so much of Samantha from Sex And The City. Her taste for fashion, and her love of men knows no bounds!
Sarah Gold was Drew's first wife; they divorced 14 years ago. Together they have a couple of grown children. Sarah loves country music and baking cakes, and has become quite a homebody since being single.
So when they all get together for the trip of a lifetime (with children, step-children, and grandchildren thrown into the mix!), it's certainly entertaining to say the least!!
I really enjoyed this book. Yes, there are a lot of characters, and it was a little tricky to envision each one in my mind initially, but by the end of the book, the story came together very well, and I liked the few twists thrown in. The locations of the cruise stops along the way were portrayed beautifully, and with a great amount of detail, as were the descriptions of the cruiseliner itself. There are a lot of funny moments, and it is a really cleverly written story that I know many will enjoy. It's just over a couple of hundred pages long, so it is quite a quick read, but having said that, there is a lot packed into it!
Drew wants to celebrate the big 50 with a bang and so he books to go on a cruise with his wife.......but also decides to take his ex wives and children along to - how will the 3 Mrs Golds get along - it will certainly be a memorable trip
The three women are all very different Sarah has been in hibernation since Mona stole her husband away but its time to shake that off and have a good time. Mona is very high maintenance..........and determined to get Drew back again.......she stole him from his wife before so why not again. Tess the current wife could have her work cut out on this holiday!
A great concept and brilliant characters I loved this book full of fun and humour a perfect beach read
I would like to thank Aria Publishing for an advanced copy of this book.
3.5 stars
I am so thankful that I had opportunity to read another Shari Low book. I thoroughly enjoyed The Other Wives Club. This was a quick, easy "beach" read that I found myself quickly sucked into.
Although rather predictable, it read at a good pace and I found myself laughing out loud at many parts. For the most part, the characters were likeable and well developed and all in all, I really enjoyed this lighthearted book.
This is my second book by Shari Low (the first one being a fiction drama) and this book was even better than the first one. Shari has a unique way of transcribing what goes on inside someone’s mind when facing very difficult situations and it truly shines through.
Drew is about to celebrate a big birthday and for the occasion, his wish is to go on a lovely relaxing cruise with his young wife Tess. And his ex-wife Mona. And his other ex-wife Sarah. And their children. What could possibly go wrong?
How refreshing! It is so very rare to read a romantic comedy that doesn’t ooze of cheesy and cutesy clichés. And what an empowering feminist read! Very often, romance stories are focused on the hero (very often a woman) finding true love (very often a man) when really, the solution can sometimes be somewhere else.
The story is really good and the suspense is maintained until the very last pages. I genuinely had no idea how the story would unravel: something quite rare, especially for this genre.
This book was eye-opening and I fear it might have raised the bar and will make me even harsher when judging romantic comedies.
I can’t recommend it enough: a perfect read, especially for summer (or if you’re in dire need of a lockdown escape!)
This is the sort of story that'd grow on you. Sort of falling in love with your best friend, something that didn't happened here lol. One chapter in and you felt 'oh OK', then you realised you were 200 pages in and fell too deep and wanted to finish it as soon as possible.
The Other Wives Club told a story about three women: two ex-wives and one current wife of Drew Gold, named Sarah, Mona, and Tess. Drew left Sarah for Mona, but Mona's habitual adultery ended their marriage before Drew made a new family with Tess. It was a story of life begins at anytime, provided that life knocks you down until the only way is up, or at least until you sit and contemplate what you want in life.
Sarah learned to forgive and forget, Mona wanted to take what's best for her back, and Tess just wanted her husband to equally love her. Their lives and love stories intertwined so nicely, and although I could smell the ending from half the book, it didn't matter because, like life, it was all about the journey.
I loved this book...there weren't too many characters to have to try and remember who was who and it was a nice flowing story that had me hooked from the first page. I love these type of books that transport me to somewhere else - and I've always wanted to go on a cruise!
What a fun read! I am looking forward to reading more from this author--great writing, interesting characters, laugh out loud moments. I picked this book because of the catchy title, and it lived up to its promise. It's great when that happens.
Library Request. I read this but was not excited about this book, I felt the third wife was walked all over not only by her husband but by his disrespecting ex-wives he subjects Tess to, and the kids. What a nutty book. Was not impressed by this one from Shari Low.
It's Drew Gold's fiftieth birthday and he wants to take his family on a cruise. That seems fair enough until the party involves not only his current wife Tess, but also his first wife Sarah and second Wife Mona. Sarah is the mother of Drew's children Richard and Eliza who are both coming on the cruise, with richard's wife and young twins. Sarah is a home bird who loves her comfy fleece tops and denim skirts, but she decides to come out of hibernation and embrace the experience. Mona is the woman Drew left Sarah for. Mona is the opposite of Sarah, she a high maintenance fashio editor who never has a hair out of place. She also has an ulterior motive, she wants Drew back, even though she is on the cruise with her husband Piers and his son Max. Ten days on a cruise, what could possibly go wong? This is a fun lighthearted read with a great cast and a plot with lots of possibilities. The characters and their dynamics make for an interesting read. I really enjoyed the blossoming friendship between Tess, Drew's current wife and his first wife Sarah. They have a lot in common, including their dislike of he schemeing Mona. Their escapades with Piers and Max are some of the most entertaining parts of the story. There are plenty of laughs but also some very poignant moments, a good easy read.
The premise for this book looked good. I settled down for a chick-lit, comic book, but it didn’t live up to expectations. Three wives of the same man help him celebrate his 50th birthday. That’s it really. Mona the woman who broke up the first marriage and became the 2nd wife is so OTT that it suggests panto rather than pathos. She’s such a caricature that it is unlikely she’d have a trail of used an discarded studs. The 3rd wife is shown to be very like the 1st so it no great denouemont when this is revealed. She is Emma who has a great rapport with a work mate and hasn’t noticed the many cracks in her marriage until he highlights them. She then spends the cruise biting her lip – it doesn’t add to the plot but it is typical of the broad hints we are given. Sarah the 1st is supposed to be half of a comic duo with her bossy friend, but it just didn’t happen. She acts like many late 50 year olds when the nest has emptied – but she is not that old and her annoying teenage daughter is still living at home. So we have a Dynasty dame - one would expect middle aged in the 1980s but actually in her 30s, an early 50s who seems much older as does her ex-husband and finally Emma who has neither charm nor intelligence and doesn’t fit any age I thought it would brighten up at the half way point but I’m afraid, for me it didn’t
Drew's desire to keep his family close is wearing a little thin on all of his ex-wives and their significant others, but he is too full of himself to notice. He's not a bad guy, he just really doesn't seem to think the positions he is putting these women in is awkward at all.
His new wife, Tess, is currently struggling with the lack of time that she already has with her husband, so she is looking forward to a peaceful cruise, hoping they can recapture some of their magic when they don't have any other distractions around them.
Mona, his last ex-wife, is tired of her current rich husband, and wants to get back together with Drew - so this cruise comes at the perfect time for her.
Sarah Gold, the first wife just wants to be left alone by her ex. She's feeling frumpy and old and would just as soon not be around either of the beautiful Mrs. Golds.
When they embark on the cruise, bringing all of their current husbands, children, stepchildren with them, new alliances are made, new confidence is found, and the right people get what is coming to them - this is all part of what makes it such a satisfying read!
The Other Wives Club Tess Gold - the current wife When Tess married Drew Gold, she believed love conquered all - including their age difference and two ex-wives who were still part of his life. But now Drew has planned a luxury Mediterranean cruise to celebrate a special birthday. It could be the ultimate romantic break... if the former Mrs. Golds weren't coming too. Mona Gold - the second wife When it comes to style, top fashion editor, Mona, never puts a Jimmy Choo wrong, but her marriage to her current husband is so last season, darling. Now it's time to reclaim the only man she ever really loved... if she can just tempt Drew away from his wife for a second time. Sarah Gold - the first wife When Drew left her for Mona, Sarah's feelings of love and lust went into hibernation. Fifteen years later, this cruise is a wonderful reason to shave those legs, update the wardrobe and start living again... if she can just resist the urge to throw the woman who broke up her marriage overboard. One husband, one wife and two ex-wives on the voyage of a lifetime... but who will still be standing after a week of stormy seas?
Lust, laughter and a large sprinkling of jealousy drive this book along. I could almost have been on that cruise with them! I really enjoyed this book ... 5 stars
Based on the cover of this book, I wasn't sure I even wanted to read it,but I am so glad I did. The story line is original and the characters are memorable. Who invites their ex-wives on a luxury cruise along with their current wife? Well, that is exactly what Drew Gold planned for his 50th Birthday celebration! This is the unconventional story of Drew Gold, his family, and ex-wives and their adventures at Sea. I am not sure exactly what these women, Tess, Mona, and Sarah, see in Drew. He comes across as a driven, selfish, workaholic, that always put his family second. His current wife, Tess, is lively and likable and certainly too young for a "stick in the mud" like Drew. Mona, wife #2, is the most like Drew, as she is also driven, selfish, and seems to forget she has a spouse. Mona is the reason why Drew is no longer married to his first wife, Sarah, who is the mother of his two children. This trip may have been planned for Drew, but it is Sarah that really celebrates on this cruise. She finally realizes she more than Drew's ex-wife, or a mother, or a grandmother. She is 40 something, and discovers she is still desirable and sexy. Rating 4.25
It's been a long time since I read a book by Shari Low, and as usual I felt myself drawn into the madcap lives of her characters. Meet Drew Gold - we're all off on holiday to celebrate his 50th birthday. All? That will be the extended, disfunctional family - his first wife who was his childhood sweetheart, Sarah, the mother of his children. She starts off very uncomfortable with this glamorous cruise. Mona, the second wife who wishes she was still the current one. Bitchy, glamorous and conniving, and pushing 40. On the cruise with her older (rich) husband, who everyone loves - and his adult son. And Tess, current wife, in her twenties, and struggling to keep up. Will Mona get her man back? The relationships that form, the unlikely alliances and the misadventures make this a real romp of a read. I read it on a train journey and it cheered my day up no end.
Thank you to NetGalley, author Shari Low and publisher Aria for the opportunity to read this gem of a book. In exchange for an honest review.
In my mind I think this book is a must buy must read for all. If you like your romance stories with a massive twist to them and you like them to contain humour, love, friendship, family, and to keep you in your toes then this book is definitely for you.
I loved this story. This story is fast passed, it keeps you in your toes as you try to keep up with all the different characters and all of their different lives. It is full of twist and turns and had me on tenderhooks all the way through where I was hoping and wishing one relationship would happen. Does it well that is for me to know and you to find out!
I had never read this author before so was'nt sure what the book would be like, I was pleasantly suprised, it was very easy to read, light hearted and fun, it made me laugh a lot, perfect for a easy holiday read. really enjoyed the relationships between all the main characters. will def read more ....
