Fantastic and Faultless.
Four stars only as it is a short story but here is a series that has great energy and the potential to become a classic.
It is markedly different, based on the detective - DS Sean Corrigan. This short taster building up his background to boost the novels issued in this series.
It takes us back some ten years to explain how Corrigan moved from uniform into CID. It highlights how he was spotted and then mentored as others could see his unique skill set.
This short story is brilliant in revealing his character and impatience. His pent up aggression is first drawn out in a boxing ring. A clever piece of writing and his own difficult upbringing teased out without full disclosure.
As only ever wishing to read a series in a strict order means that I have finally decided to invest in this author. I have all his books other than number 5. So I can now begin a great journey with an interesting and remarkable detective.
To watch him grow and moderate his natural inclinations amid colleagues less able or more apt to error. Sean has a gift, an unusual talent to see a crime scene from the perpetrator’s perspective and feel their emotions and perceive intent and purpose.
His mentor we learn was a detective chief superintendent Bannan - retired by 2003.
He tried to instil patience to young Sean and said he could use his talents wisely but not against his own. In house he had to be aware of politics and find alternative ways to reveal the truth.
He said, almost from personal experience his gift was both a blessing and a curse.
These short stories and at least 5 principal novels bring to the reader’s attention the career and life of former PC Corrigan now as at 2003 DS Sean Corrigan.
I am engaged and excited.

Excellent short story giving us background into the brilliant mind of the now DI Sean Corrigan, starting in 1993 when he was a PC. The epilogue starts in 2004 when Sean is a DS by this stage.

Expertly written and just enough to set us up for the next in the series, Cold Killing.

This is the first of two short stories used as a prequel to the first full length novel, Cold Killing. The main character, Sean Corrigan, is a young police cons table who has obvious talents in getting into the minds of murderers. His dark past as a child is a subtle clue in this skill. The story is very short, but brilliantly scripted and packs a lot into a few pages.

Redemption of the Dead is one of the best short stories I've read in a while.
Despite its shortness, it manages to present a gruesome, engaging investigation and to introduce an intriguing hero, Sean Corrigan. He has lots of inner demons and a mysterious past, which I can't wait to know more about in the next books. He also has unusual powers of deduction which make him a very promising detective - he is a mix of Sherlock Holmes and Will Graham. At the same time, he is still a newbie at the time of this story, and the author shows his inexperience several times. I appreciated this, because it gave the character authenticity.
I'm very curious to read the next in the series.

This was okay.

I didn’t expect the audiobook to end so soon but the voice actor was great. I definitely was expecting more action from this but I guess it’s just a prequel, so it’s there only to introduce what this series is about and the beginning of Sean Corrigan’s career. Though, it had me immediately buying the next book in the series, that’s for sure.

PS. Amazing writing! One can never go wrong with a classic Delaney book.

Ergo, 3🌟

Really enjoyed this short story, which expertly sets the scene and background for DI Corrigan. Well written, and you could feel what he feels from the descriptions at each crime scene. Looking forward to the next book, Cold Killing.

Thought I would try this in my search for a new series. Good plot in relation to serial rape and murder in London. Looks promising albeit a few concerns about wundercop Sean Corrigan. Happy to see how he develops through the series.

A good short story, but I think it could have been a bit better. I was disappointed there was no real explanation about why the killer was so brutal.....unless I missed something.

Nothing special and no plot twist. redeeming factor is that it's very short.

I'm not a short story person, as I always mention, but it's good to get some insight into more of the story.
