Are you ashamed of the way you draw? This book is here to help.
If you can’t draw a straight line, if you can’t even draw a stick figure, this is the book for you. 20 year animation veteran Luis Escobar, Storyboard artist for The Simpsons Television show has structured this book in a very unique way.
Using the model of a Kung Fu class, he takes absolute beginners from the most basic drawing conditioning to a competent level of drawing. Focusing on drawing cartoon characters. In this book you’ll learn:
* How you may already be drawing and don’t know it. * The dirty secret of drawing talent. * How learning to draw basic shape can let you draw anything. * How to draw stick figures with style. * What professionals know about tracing correctly. * How to draw basic cartoon characters...and much more
Most “how to draw” books always assume you have some level of competency. This book doesn’t. It helps you from the ground up.
Draw as if you’ve been born to. Amaze your friends. Have fun drawing again, like you did when you were little.
Luis leads you through the bare bones fundamentals of drawing. If you heed his advice (practice, practice, practice is one key) you'll be making cartoon characters and getting a solid foundation for further adventures.
The instructions are rooted in the very basic fundamentals of drawing: line, shape, and composition. Keeping in mind the goal of enabling you to create cartoonish characters, the book is an excellent introductory text. He even gives a supply list that you'll easily be able to pull together, whatever pencils and paper you have handy.
For non-cartoon drawing fundamentals I'd suggest one of books from Andrew Loomis, perhaps Fun with a Pencil. For realistic drawing, aka draftsmanship look at Drawing from Observation by Brian Curtis.
I've searched a lot for a drawing tutorial book and apparently I've chosen the worst one. It's not all bad of course, it just doesn't fit for an absolute beginner.
