When the hunted becomes the predator, the huntress becomes his prey.

My dream job turned into a nightmare. I was assigned to a backwater squad right after graduation, while less qualified hunters were sent to elite positions.

In this squad, not only are the three guys I’m working with insufferably chauvinistic and utterly disgusting, they don’t follow protocol. Ever. To top it off, I’m stuck cleaning while they sloppily hunt monsters. Except…someone is hunting me.

Vampires don’t walk into a trap. They certainly don’t let themselves be caught without a fight. While it’s possible the one caught last night isn’t too smart, it’s more likely the vampire has an agenda.

Sent to mop the holding area, I find myself in the presence of a magnificent, terrifying specimen. Even though the vampire doesn’t look at me, his intense focus tracks my every movement. He’s stony, until he’s not.

When all hell breaks loose and the monster escapes, I find myself in a game of cat and mouse all over this city.

This vampire is ruthless and unrelenting. He has me in his sights. Each encounter chips at my resolve. There’s something simmering between us. It’s so intoxicating it disarms me, makes me unable to think straight. His presence is overwhelming, and he whispers sweet temptations in my ear.

He makes it no secret—he wants me. No one has made me feel this alive.

It is forbidden to be with a vampire…but this chemistry is dangerously becoming something more. I can never let the others know how I see him. While he’s definitely a villain, this monster might not be a bad guy.

Download and start reading NOW if you like a sharp, sassy, and strong leady lady who isn’t afraid to go toe-to-toe with a smoldering, secretive villain.

Marked Blood is book 1 in an action-packed, SLOW BURN to steamy romance series that may not be suitable for everyone. Mind the cliff, this is a trilogy.

Marked Blood by Alexa H. Michaels was such a fun read. Definitely benefitted from right place, right time to give me as much enjoyment as it did. The writing and execution wasn’t the strongest, but the vibes were what they needed to be.

Let’s be real… this book is about New Orleans vampires. So I was inadvertently hunting for Klaus or Marcel from the Vampire Diaries (the TV show version obviously) or Louis from Interview with the Vampire. Cato isn’t that, which is fine but temper expectations. Dude reminds more of Marius from Anne Rice’s vampire universe, but not quite. He is way less developed and I just need more from his character. I will be continuing because it’s a duology and hopefully his threads are pulled together. One thing about Cato that I thought would bug me, but it totally works for his character is that he called the Predator. Really makes him feel more ominous, immortal and a tad terrifying which I loved.

I mean the premise is great, Ancient vampire falls in love with a huntress (who gasp is not what she seems). I love that but the writing didn’t quite make it there yet. I NEED more background info on my Queen and not the FMC Kelda . I gotta know how her and Cato became friends/daughter-father! I would read a book dedicated to her happily and I loved any moment she was on the page.

The actual female lead Lennox is… interesting enough. I’m still a bit dubious about her background. She has a lot of trauma that has been hinted at but not developed. To be honest alot of my issues would be solved if Lennox and Cato would discuss shit vs just banging all the time. I know this is a smutty, paranormal romance which it delievers but development occurs with sex and discussion.

Overall, its pretty good so like a 3.75 which rounds to 4.
I plan to grab Book 2 - Ruthless Hunt, as soon as I can.

I was fortunate to receive an ARC copy of Marked Blood. I enjoyed getting to know Lennox and Cato and seeing how their different lives intertwined. I found some scenes not really needed and felt the story drag in parts. It could be condensed a little. Some scenes seemed repetitive. However, by the time I finished the last word and clicked the "if you want to see what's next" link..2024 is a long time to wait..so I shall sit patiently waiting. If you are into an FMC challenging what she knows and an MMC that speaks in cryptic rhymes, this slow burn steamy read is for you.

In advance, I discontinued the book after around 50 pages and it seems that the person who recommended the book to me, did not like me very much. (I may have chosen the book myself, but that's beside the point) The overall plot of the book sounded like every other vampire enemies-to-lovers book (things I normally enjoy): it's about a huntress named Candy, who is assigned a shitty position with a bunch of misogynistic men, who do not follow protocol when it comes to capturing and torturing vampires. Surprisingly, or well, not so surprisingly, she is even worse in following orders, thinking she can get the vampire, who casually (kinda sus) got himself caught, to talk and disclose his deepest, darkest secrets. How she does this, you ask? Well, she likes to mop the bloody floor, while listening to music and swinging her hips, possibly trying to seduce or annoy him. Not quite sure. She likes to read a lot of smut (same girl, same) and to fantasize about the brute vampire, while he likes to annotate said books. They are probably mates, or she is a not-so-mortal-huntress, because he only came for her, and well her blood. There is a lot of Candy talking to herself and the word laudable gets mentioned a lot. For me, personally, the book was too cringe and over-the-top. He thinks her intoxicating, I think I might have to be intoxicated to enjoy this book.

“Oh, sweet thing, you’re fierce. I find that... intoxicating.”

“Do you always read such raunchy novels at night?”

She was mine. And while she didn’t know it yet, she would soon enough.

“What happens when I catch you?”
“Who says I won’t catch you?”

“You’ll never make me prey,” I hissed, stepping forward. “Oh, but I already have.”

My heart fucking skipped. I frowned. That wasn’t the reaction of a predator catching sight of his prey.

“And you’re my prey, little hunter. If anyone is going to devour that sweet flesh, it’s me.”

“No one has ever tasted this good.” “Fuck you.” “Yes, please,”

“We don’t consume flesh. But for you, bella donna, I’ll make an exception and turn you into a fucking feast."

"I think that’s what you need. A good fucking spanking. Maybe then you’ll realize how much better it feels to be a good girl instead of this hellion.”

A dream. Such a dream. Did men like me really get the beauty in the end? Or was the beast doomed to be shot, because he couldn’t transform into a prince?

“I hate you.”“Good, you’ll fuck me better because of it,”

I am quite stunned by this new world Alexa created and introduced the supernaturals in it. Heroes are fine to me but the VILLAINS with ‘Touch Her And Die’ feelings are the best and they make some of the very intense and eventful stories, just like this one is.

It’s about a Huntress who has her own set of issues in life, and then comes a Vampire, who got captured by Hunters only for her. Their interactions are very intuitive and give way to so many questions that need answers. The slow burn has a solid effect and completes the story in many ways.

I love “The Predator” very much and need more of him and his life in the next books. I need answers for all the twists and turns the story has thrown my way. Whereas “Lennox” is a very tempting character with lots of mystery around her. She is the bane for the supernaturals and has secrets she doesn’t even know about herself.

The story captivated me from the start and by the end I wanted all of it one go. The problem is I can’t binge-read as it’s not out yet. I want the next books soon, I hope Alexa writes them soon. I recommend this fantasy read to others and get to know the entertaining plot with fire in it.

It’s a 4.25⭐️ for me.

Alexa H. Michaels transports readers to the enigmatic underbelly of New Orleans, a realm dominated by Vampires, Shifters, and introduces us to Lennox, The relentless huntress, who spares no effort in seeking out her prey. In this inaugural volume of the Crescent City Monsters trilogy, the undeniable chemistry between Lennox and Cato sizzles, making enemies into lovers, and turning hate to lust. Thank you very much to Alexa H. Michaels for the opportunity to have an advanced reader copy of this book! I am looking forward to the next installment!

Characters:
Lennox – badass huntress, half human (half we don’t know what!), sent to New Orleans (The Crescent City), to hunt for vampires with her squad. She’s been kicked to the backwater by someone in her Guild, and she doesn’t know why, but she’s going to grin and bear it.
The Predator/Cato: He’s a vampire from the Roman Court, and is in fact a Prince of the Roman Court. He is captured by Lennox and her fellow hunters at the beginning of the book, and when he escapes, he comes back for Lennox, who he thinks is his blood mate.
Secondary Characters – Cato’s Protegee Kelda, and the Alpha of New Orleans, Svet.
Tropes: Vampire / Spicy / Shifter / Supernatural / He Falls First / Enemies to Lovers / Multiple POV’s / Vampire Paranormal Romance
Highlights:
- This book took a while to get started, I would say around 30% of the book in I understood what was going on. Nothing spicy until 75% of the book was complete.
- Scores a 2/5 on the Spice Meter, it’s well written, but there’s not much of it until the last third of the book. This makes sense because this is a world-building first book.
- I would love Cato’s Protegee’s backstory! Can we have a novella about that?
- Lots of other supernatural beings in this book – a LOT of minority characters! Fae, Ghosts, Shifters, Vampires, Half-Vampires, Created vs. Born Vampires, Wolves, etc. For the minor characters, I would have loved a list of who was who at the end of the book. Perhaps for the second book?
- Loved the Harry Potter-esque Magic of the Bookstore/Café. It reminded me of the tent in Goblet of Fire!
- I would love some more info and flashbacks about Lennox’s time in The Guild. We get a bit about it, but not as much as I’d like. Fingers crossed this happens in Books 2 and 3!

Marked Blood is the first book of 3 in Alexa Michael’s Cresent City Monsters: The Conqueror series. It is a Dark Paranormal Romance story, and I need to say that if you are a fan of vampire novels, particularly those full of intrigue, betrayal and enemies to lovers, you will absolutely enjoy Marked Blood!

It is set in New Orleans and follows two POVs (points of view). The first being that of Lennox, a graduate member of the Livian Guild. She is a hunter who takes out paranormal beings to protect the humans in the world who are completely oblivious to the supernatural happenings around them. She is steadfast in her knowledge, a stickler for rules and procedures and has been grouped with some lazy half-assed hunters as a punishment for something that happened in her years at the academy.
The Second POV, follows The Predator, an ancient vampire who needs Lennox for his plans but every move he makes is another piece in his game. He is mysterious, and powerful and frequently omits truths to keep his plans between himself and his protegee, Kelda, a secret.

Throughout the story, Lennox and the predator come across various supernatural creatures and navigate through underground supernatural politics and heated encounters between themselves. Marked Blood leaves you on the edge of your seat needing answers to all the questions and revelations you encounter, making for a read that leaves you wanting more.

I cannot wait for the next in the series to come out and will sit and eagerly awaiting to devour it.

I did receive this as an ARC read and am incredibly thankful to the author for the opportunity to preview this exciting read.

This captivating read follows the journey of Lennox, a fierce and skilled hunter, who finds herself in the crosshairs of her own prey, Cato. The story takes place in the bayous and underbelly of New Orleans, where Lennox is part of a team of sub-par hunters as a form of punishment for her past mistakes. However, her teammates are not only rude and sexist but also break the rules, leaving Lennox to clean up after their mess.

During one of her post-interrogation clean-up sessions, Lennox meets Cato, a vampire who has been looking for her. Cato falls for Lennox and wants to make her his, but Lennox is torn between her attraction to him and her upbringing that labeled vampires as "monsters." As Lennox tries to unravel the truth about her past and why Cato wants her, she encounters a cast of intriguing side characters and magical places, such as Books & Brews, a book and teahouse.

Although we are left with many unanswered questions, such as Lennox's lineage and exactly why Cato wants her, the well-developed characters and vivid scenery make for an enjoyable read. I particularly enjoyed Svet, the werewolf Alpha, and the various supernatural beings that live among humans, unbeknownst to them.

Overall, I found this book to be a refreshing and entertaining read, and I am eagerly anticipating the next installment to learn more about Lennox and Cato's story.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

A Spellbinding Journey in "Marked Blood" by Alexa H. Michaels

"Marked Blood" by Alexa H. Michaels is a paranormal romance that grips you from the very first page and refuses to let go. Michaels' writing style is nothing short of amazing, effortlessly weaving together a tale of love, magic, and destiny.

The chemistry between the main characters crackles with intensity, thanks to the author's skillful portrayal of their dynamic. The banter between them is witty and sharp, adding a delightful layer of humor to the story. It's this magnetic connection that keeps the reader eagerly turning pages, eager to witness the evolution of their relationship.

One of the standout elements of "Marked Blood" is the presence of well-developed supporting characters. Each one brings a unique flavor to the narrative, enriching the world Michaels has created. The friendship between Svet and Lennox is a particular highlight, providing a heartwarming counterbalance to the passion and intrigue that dominates the plot.

As the final pages turn, readers will find themselves already counting down the days until the next installment. "Marked Blood" is a captivating journey into the world of the paranormal, leaving fans hungry for more. Michaels' exceptional storytelling and unforgettable characters make this a must-read for any romance or fantasy enthusiast.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

What a wild ride this book was. From page 1 there was always something going on. Whether it be Lennox's mystery of how she landed in the outermost reaches of her guild's cover, or stepping in to help an innocent shop keeper, or even finding herself face to face with a horde of undead. This was the perfect book to pull me out of a reading slump.

I really got pulled in around 40% completion. I absolutely adored Svet and Lennox together. His actions were a great contrast to Cato's. I do hope we get to see more of Lennox and Svet's blossoming friendship as the series progresses.

As much as I love a good enemies to lovers/slow burn romance, I found it kind of annoying how much Lennox fought against Cato. I understand that she was raised to hate supernatural, but it made the spicy scenes a little hard to get into. I really hoped at least some point she wouldn't resist him so much, but even in the end she was still fighting his advances.

Overall, a pretty good read. I would definitely recommend to anyone that loves a good supernatural romance.

Incredible! I'm not usually a fan of slow burns, but this was so well-written that I was hooked from the beginning!

FMC is strong and strong-willed. I did not roll my eyes at her. I did occasionally want to scream at her. MMC is a fierce, masculine monster on the outside and sexy marshmallow on the inside. These two steel-willed leads clash in an exciting, fun, super sexy way! The spice factor is a middling 3 chili peppers for me, but this is one of those that definitely kept the heart-rate up between scenes!

My favorite notes:
- References to Black Dagger Brotherhood. FMC is a fellow monster smut lover!
- Witty writing and small jokes that made me cackle. Not plot-critical: I just knew Peter Johnson was not going to be the name of a likable character.
- Super strong plot that hooked me in chapter one, and had me finishing at 4 am. The quality of writing is some of the best in this genre. I even learned a fun new vocabulary word that sent me down an etymology rabbit hole.

I can't wait to continue this series and read how he burns the world down for her.

I was given an ARC of this book by the author Alexa Michaels for my honest review.

I'm always down for a good paranormal romance and when it's a dark one it's even better for me. I liked the writing style of the author and the relationship she builds between Lennox and Cato.

I love their back and forth through many scenes in the novel. If I wasn't at work I probably would have devoured it faster than I did because I found that I couldn't put the book down. The fact that it's the forbidden romance too- someone meant to hunt the supernatural creatures and the vampire.

I also love the friendship between Lennox and Svet!

But this book left me wanting the next one right away! I need to know what the deal is about her family and if Cato (lets be real it's not an if Cato will get her back) gets her back!

Amazing. Fantastic. Alexa knew what she was doing when she wrote this book.

Lennox is being punished because of a grudge he,d against her, sent to he worst possible assignment she could get. And that assignment goes from annoying and out of protocol with her peers, to dangerous and a true cat and mouse game with a vampire who is obsessed with her from the get go.

Cato is obsessed with having Lennox, in every sense of the word, and does nothing to stop at getting her. While stalking and obsessing over her, he also drops hints and protects her even while caged up.

It is definitely a slow burn with delicious spice from the enemies to lovers standpoint, but also doesn’t quite relinquish the idea of enemies and fighting just because they have started sharing a single bed 👀

I am in LOVE with this story and cannot wait for the second one, because that cliffhanger was just too much 😭😭😭

OMG 😲 I'm speechless.. This book was fantastic.
It was beautifully written with excellent world and character building, I could visualize everything perfectly as reading.
It had everything: Enemies to lovers, Hidden marriage, One bed, forced proximity, forbidden love, he falls first, Touch her and die..
Lennox and cato had excellent banter. Their cat and mouse games made perfect Enemies to lovers.
I loved lennox she was a sassy smart mouth, brassy, and brazen, and despite her upbringing. She still managed to form bonds with the supernatural.
And Cato, I wouldn't throw him outta bed for making crumbs 😍.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially loved the references to Alice in Wonderland, and how Lennox was reading the black Dagger brotherhood books.

This is an ARC given in exchange for a review

I really enjoyed this book. This is one where these people are true enemies to lovers. Even at the end of this first book Nox still seems to battle whether or not she can love Cato or kill him. Also, the slow burn was indeed slow. Once the spice kicked in though it went full force.

I enjoyed that we didn't learn Cato's name for a while and even once we did his chapters were still titled as "The Predator". Also Svet is my new spirit animal. I love that he has a playboy mentality but will fight for those he cares about without a second thought.

Overall, I cannot wait for the next book. That cliffhanger was intense for sure!

What happens when both of their plans go wildly out of control?

There's still a lot of unanswered questions so I'm definitely going to be reading the next book when it comes out! The undeniable chemistry from the two MCs is evident from the very start! It does end on a heavy cliffhanger, so be prepared.

Definitely read if you love:

There is a lot of mystery to this book than I expected. I expected to get answers to the reasoning behind the FMC’s importance to everyone but you only get hints here and there that there is way more to her. The MMC vampire is very dedicated to his plan but is trying to adjust it as their relationship grows. The other characters in this story are good as well. There are witches, werewolves, ghosts, humans, and more. The plot is interesting even if you don’t fully understand things. The flow of the book is good but still I am very interested in learning more because like I said so much is still unknown. It leaves off on a good cliffhanger that makes you want to jump to the next book right away

I'd like to thank the author for allowing me to be an ARC reader.

I gave this book three stars because at the beginning of the book (the first ten chapters) felt short and rushed but also long and taking forever at the same time.
I also noticed that there were a few errors in the book, and/or I felt as if some of the sentences were off, and worded oddly.
The story itself; absolutely amazing!
Great mysteries thrown in and carried through the book, and we are left with a major cliffhanger hanger, which I love by the way, and I can't wait to read more!
I also would like to know more about svet.
This book also gave me buffy and spike vibes which I enjoyed very much!
I'll be patiently waiting for book two.

I really enjoyed this paranormal romance novel!
The writing style is able to capture fun banter, sarcasm and anger very well. Not all books are able to portray those emotions well. The character development added to the story and really made me want to keep reading. I was pulled into this book and it’s been a while since I’ve been drawn in from the beginning of a book. There’s no slow world building, it was all attention grabbing. This is a true enemies to lovers book that doesn’t have them in love at first glance. There is a cliffhanger that will make waiting for the next one agonizing.

Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, and Hunters … oh my.. Marked Blood by Alexa H. Michaels is the epitome of a Dark Paranormal Romance that is a yummy slow burn. It is definitely slower paced than what I am used to but the pay off is so worth it. The story is about a bad a** huntress living in a world that is seemingly normal on the surface, but for everyone who can see past the facade, it is so much more than that. Lennox is incredibly focused on being the best at what she does… that is until a creature of the night comes into her life and flips her plans on its head… The Spice, steamy slow burn, forced proximity, and enemies to lovers is just chefs kiss.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the slow burn between the characters and the way the world was created. I would have given this five stars except I did find myself doubly annoyed with our two many characters. Lennox made me wanna shake her at times saying open your eyes. But then Cato also had me wanting to skate him saying open your mouth and tell her something…..anything that would make her trust you. Stop playing games! Regardless I can’t wait to read book two as I find it hard to believe Cato or Sven will leave her where she ends up in the end! I see a not so willing alliance forming between the two in Lennox’s rescue.

Modern day Witcher mixed with True Blood vibes. “Marked Blood” by Alexa Michaels is an intriguing, exciting, adventurous, and slow-burn spicy Dark/Paranormal Romance you wont want to put down. The Enemies-to-Lovers (but still enemies) slow-burn spicy romance along with all the action and suspense packed into this book will give you all the feels, and might possibly cause you to lose sleep as you won’t want to stop reading it once you start. If you love Dark/Paranormal Romance, this book needs to be on your TBR list! Definitely excited for the next book in this series!

Really good read. But very disappointed with cliffhanger which was expected; but you are thinking to have at least a second book already out to follow the first, especially when you have three books listed in the series. A first book, then two preorder books to follow. And worst of all- the second book won't be out until July, 2024. That was just awful!! I can't believe your publisher went along with that number. Very misleading. Who would want to read a series with the preorders coming out almost a year later for the second and third book? Very very aggravated!
