Just when Cooper Reynolds and Lou Whittaker think they’ve weathered the worst of their trials, they come face to face with the most dangerous, clever villain they’ve ever experienced. One Wyatt brother was bad enough, but now that Archer has called on his brother Christopher for help keeping Lou and Cooper apart, the young couple is about to learn what real trouble looks like.
Christopher has come home determined to get Lou away from Cooper once and for all, and he isn’t afraid who he hurts or what bridges he burns to get the job done. With Cooper’s time running out and Lou struggling to control her growing powers, the last thing they need is more conflict. Too bad things are never as easy as they hope.
With a mysterious pair of FBI investigators in town and the clock ticking, Cooper and Lou need to learn to work together before they’re torn apart forever.
Sierra Dean is a reformed historian. She was born and raised in the Canadian prairies and is allowed annual exit visas in order to continue her quest of steadily conquering the world one city at a time. Making the best of the cold Canadian winters, Sierra indulges in her less global interests: drinking too much tea and writing urban fantasy.
Ever since she was a young girl she has loved the idea of the supernatural coexisting with the mundane. As an adult, however, the idea evolved from the notion of fairies in flower beds, to imagining that the rugged-looking guy at the garage might secretly be a werewolf. She has used her overactive imagination to create her own version of the world, where vampire, werewolves, fairies, gods and monsters all walk among us, and she’ll continue to travel as much as possible until she finds it for real.
She’s also a book lover (of course!), obsessive collector of OPI nailpolish and the owner of way too many pairs of shoes.
Spring is the third book in the Dog Days series by Sierra Dean. Between books I seem to forget just how much I love this series. Once you start, you just can’t stop reading. I ended up reading this in just one day.
Things start up pretty much right where the last book left off. Lou has her memory back. She remembers everything, including how crazy she is about Cooper Reynolds. But Cooper is cursed, just like his older brother was before him. In six months, as soon as he turns eighteen, he will turn into a coyote, exactly like his brother Jeremy did. That is, it will happen unless Lou, (Eloise) can solve the mystery of the curse.
Just about everything is working against them, though. The Wyatt family is the enemy, doing all they can to keep Lou and Cooper apart. Before they just had to deal with Archer but now his oh so evil older brother Christopher is in town. If you thought Archer was bad, well, Christopher is a lot worse.
Lou’s best friend, Marnie, is in the hospital still recovering from her attack from what, they still aren’t sure. Marnie has a new nurse, Michael, that Lou met when she was visiting there. But wait, there is a mysterious FBI agent in town and isn’t that the same guy that she saw in the hospital? Who is Michael really, and what does he want.
Cooper is experiencing some changes as well. His senses seem more heightened. His moods more pronounced. Could this be the early signs of his impending change? At the same time, Lou, who is a witch, is becoming more aware of her power. But she has no one to teach her. In the first book, she lost control and blew up a library. She’s afraid that something like that could happen again but she has no one to help her.
There is a turning point when Lou wakes up from sleepwalking in the woods. Christopher finds her and Lou and Christopher experience something together that answers quite a few questions. What will Christopher do with this information is the question.
One thing that solidly carries on through each book is the connection between Lou and Cooper. Even though they are young, these two are truly in love. Lou is so brave. She is committed to doing all she can to help Cooper no matter the danger to herself. And Cooper’s feelings towards Lou are so strong and sweet.
Once again, it seems like the brunt of the weight of everything falls on Lou’s shoulders. She, Cooper and Max travel back to Sweetwater to visit their favorite fortune teller once again to try to get some honest answers. What they do get is more questions.
This is another great installment in this series, super fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. And of course, Sierra Dean left me hanging with a crazy cliff hanger. The final book is due out in about six months so I have no choice but to have to wait to see how Lou and Cooper’s story ends. Can Lou solve the mystery and save the boy she loves? Stay tuned to find out.
I have been trying to write this review for an hour now, and I am struggling. See, there was this cliffie of doom. Oh those evil cliffies! I was all noooo! And then the book ended. So yes, evil cliffie alert for sure.
Poor Lou and Cooper. What a f:ed up town! Everyone hates Cooper, and I am all f u guys! Why the hate!? Poor Cooper :/ Not to mention that in a few months he will turn into a coyote and never be human again. Poor Cooper, that is all I gave to say.
And Lou, poor Lou too! Stuck in the middle of a curse. There has to be the witches, the watchers and the poor cursed ones. I would just say screw you all and go. But then she loves Cooper and she is trying to save him. Trying to find out more about the curse, all while avoiding those darn watchers.
Right, the baddies, arghh Archer, hate him, arghh Christoper, his brother, I hate him more.
And then the end come. After having rushed around (Lou) and Cooper becoming sadder the end came with a bang, and now I need more at once.
I’m continuing with the Dog Days series, and it’s time for the 3rd book – Spring. As always it’s fast paced and leaves us hanging on every word. It doesn’t’ help that it ends on a cliffhanger that begs you to open the as took. But alas, I don’t have it yet and I’m dying of curiosity.
I enjoyed the book a lot. It also helped that I read it 2 or 3 days after I finished Winter. I got the feeling that the book was divided. Even though the author was writing in third person, still it was noticeable that one chapter followed Lou, while the next Copper and so on. It was great as we got to see both of the characters fully. The mystery of the murder is still unsolved, however, near the end of the book we get some solid answers, but they only confuse us even more! As now the mystery behind the attack on Marnie takes another twist. There are two suspects and one cannot really speak. Some new character will appear and old ones will be making Cooper’s life hell. We do not see lot of Archer, but we get to know his brother to the extent of hating him. At at the same time I want to know more about him. I want to understand why he’s so cold and ruthless. I do believe there’s a history behind his story and I’m dying to know it.
Are you ready to find out what happens after Christopher comes into town? There’s a lot that we find out in this book, but at the same time we are left with even more questions hanging. Lou again made me enjoy her character, as she becomes more strong-willed and wants to break Cooper’s curse at any cost. However, Cooper was a bit disappointing but at the same time he was finally getting horny near Lou. It was very funny how made Lou breathless and then was acting weird. But it’s normal, as the coyote in him in coming to the surface as his birthday is nearing! Are you ready to get lost in the story of love, witchcraft, mysteries and secrets? You will love this series a lot! You can check my previous reviews for Autumn and Winter on my blog! Enjoy the story to its fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below. I didn’t think the story could get more dangerous and more ominous but I was wrong. The story continues with Christopher coming back into town to keep lou in check and Cooper from winning. Archer is also growing and questioning things that are going on.
Cooper and Lou are in a good place. They are together and helping each other understand what is happening. The mystery of the murder from centuries ago hangs over them as does Cooper’s moment of change. This doesn’t deter them though and with the help of Max they go on to try to save Cooper.
What I loved here is the growth of the story and characters. The story is becoming more intertwined and more intriguing. Everything is slowly beginning to thread together and show us what is happening in the town. We see how all this began with more clarity, we see the strength in the love of Cooper and Lou, the evilness of Christopher and the friendships cooper is have grow and become a part of him.
The plot thickens when Christopher comes into town. this causes more danger for Cooper and we see him lose more of himself over time. It climaxes with him getting in trouble and this can hurt him and his time with Lou. We get more insight into Archer as he begins to think differently about what is happening and his role in it all. He fears his family more and begins to see the light about them as well.
Each character grows in strength and endearing you to him. All but Christopher he has you really really disliking him. A fast paced intriguing story that adds more elements to be revealed but also adds another element of intensity and danger as Cooper and Lou try to figure a way to help him and get to be together.
In this book, I felt that the story recovered from “Winter” which I mentioned felt a little like it was a repeat of “Autumn”. Not necessarily a bad thing as the story was good, but it did get slightly repetitive. The one thing that held strong throughout the book was Lou and Cooper’s love. It was refreshing in a YA book as often the main characters start to question themselves, which can feel quite fickle to me.
The book is very much a bridge between the beginning of the series and the finale. There is a lot of set up and all of the characters are starting to come into their own power. I wouldn’t recommend folks starting this book unless you’re willing to commit to the final two at the same time!
Warning: Contains violence and sexual content.
Who should read it? YA paranormal fans who are looking for something a little different, but I’d recommend starting at the beginning.
Please note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review courtesy of YA Bound Book Tour.
I am SERIOUSLY so glad I have the next book to read because Cooper is left in a sticky situation and things aren't looking too good for him. Especially given the deadline he's stuck under.
Good thing he has his girl Lou at his back. Sort of.
But that's next book. This book gave us some answers to the mystery of Cooper's curse. Sort of. I mean, the answers are there, they just have to figure out how things come together. And what it means for them. And how the Wyatt family is involved in what happened in the past.
Those Wyatts confuse me. Archer is maybe not half bad. Maybe. Christopher is more than half bad and then he goes and shows some compassion and now I'm all tangled up about them. Which isn't to say I like them, they just have a few more layers than I gave them credit for originally.
Anywho. More danger. More lies. A few answers. The next book is ready for me.
This was my least favorite of the series so far. It seemed a little like a filler book with nothing much happening in terms moving the story along until the very end at least. There not enough interaction with Max & Cooper. Lou & Cooper are still cute together. I think Cooper mother is horrible though. She knows her son is going to turn into a coyote soon, she KNOWS he isn't guilty of anything with regards to the school/FBI incident yet she still punishes him, grounding him and forbidding Lou from visiting. He didn't do anything wrong, will loose his humanity in a few months and your not even going to let him visit with his girlfriend - what a bitch.
