Warrior Beautiful

Rate this book
Working with the ex you secretly love to save the souls of the innocent is almost as bad as working with a mighty battle unicorn who would be thrilled to watch you plummet to your death.

Scout is used to pain. Her body has been broken, her heart has been broken, and the only thing keeping her together is her relationship with her younger sister. Lil Bit believes in unicorns and terrifying monsters she calls soul stealers. But unicorns and monsters aren’t real…are they?

When Lil Bit falls prey to the mysterious disease sweeping the country, Scout has two options – believe the doctors who say it’s a pandemic or believe Lil Bit, who says it’s the soul stealers. She chooses her sister and goes looking for the unicorns who are supposed to save them. What she finds aren’t the cute pastel mythical creatures she expects. Battle unicorns are big and tough and full of attitude. Who knew?

Unicorns are real and so are the monsters. Soul stealers are reaping the souls of the innocent, and the unicorns are fighting to stop them. But to save the world, they need the help of humans – the enemy they’re dying to protect. And first to sign up for the fight is the ex-boyfriend Scout’s heart won’t stop loving, no matter how determined she is to hate him.

Trey and Scout used to be the "it" couple. Until the accident. And Trey broke her heart. She's now back in school and he's trying to make amends but she wants nothing to do with him. Because it hurts too much. And he has a new girlfriend, anyway--Kylin. The only person Scout wants to be close to is her younger sister, Lil' Bit. There's a pandemic sweeping the country and it finds Scout's and Trey's families but they are able to escape with the help of unicorns. Kylin comes, too, which adds extra fun to the mix. As they learn the truth about what's happening and how to stop it, will they be able to do what needs to be done?

Scout is in a lot of pain, both physically and emotionally. I feel for her and want her to be happy. The unicorns aren't able to heal her completely because she's got so much anger and bitterness inside. I really liked what she was able to learn about forgiveness towards the end of the book.

The unicorns are amazing! I'm not usually interested in unicorn stories but I loved Feudlings so much that I decided to give this a try. I'm glad I did. There is some conflict between Scout and her unicorn, Ashra, which was humorous at times. I enjoyed reading about their relationship as much as her relationship with Trey.

Trey is a confused guy, haha. I understand why Scout is so upset with him and feels love/hate towards him. He makes some typical teenage guy choices and finds himself in a mess that he wants out of but isn't sure how to go about doing it. We get the story from his POV at times so we know how he's really feeling and it isn't difficult to figure out what he will ultimately do. It will be interesting to see what happens next in their relationship.

Warrior Beautiful is a fun book to read and one I would recommend, no matter how you feel about unicorns. The ending sets up the second book nicely and I'm looking forward to hearing when that book will be released!

Honestly, I was a little hesitant to pick this one up. Did you say unicorns? But since I have a track record for loving wizards, vampires, and body stealers, I thought why not? Glad I did! I feel in love with the characters and loved the book!

Scout suffers from physical and emotional pain. And, as much as she tries to avoid her former boyfriend, Trey, the one she can't help still caring about, she can't. Thankfully she has her little sister, Lil Bit, Scout's one saving grace. Many say her sister is "special"--she believes in unicorns and soul stealers--and needs help.

Scout adores Lil Bit but is skeptical of her sister's claims, until a fateful day where the only way to save the people she loves is to believe. Trey is at her side, his family also at risk, and willing to fight. Can they save their loved ones? Can they find their way back to each other?

I've always loved unicorns, so when I first picked this book up, I was worried it wouldn't live up to my expectations. That feeling didn't last past the first page. Scout is a well-developed and memorable character--her pain is searing, yet she fights for what she believes in. But some of the most interesting characters in the book are the various unicorns, and the author does an amazing job creating them and their world. Moviemakers take note and snatch the rights to this book before someone else does!

Reading this book is like riding a roller coaster through a magical land. There's never a dull moment, and it often takes your breath away. Then, it comes to a sudden stop and all you want is more. Note: this book does end on quite the cliffhanger. Book two can't get here soon enough.

I highly recommend this book to fans of the fantasy genre and anyone who loves to escape into a great story. It's a thrilling ride. But, at its heart, it's a story about love, survival, and strength.

This is a action packed adventure through a world of magic and wonder. Scout is a very smart and strong leading lady but her little sister sure does steal the show with her amazing world view. Lil Bit is so unique you can't help but adore her. Trey is just so perfect for the role of helping her and Lil Bit save the world from Soul Stealing evil. The Unicorns in this world are so unique and interesting to read about I found myself reading the entire book in one night just completely fascinated by this take on a world protected by these amazing animals and their reluctant partnership with human riders. So excited to visit this world again and see what happens next.

I opened up Warrior Beautiful.. just to read a chapter or two, and didn't come up until the last page. Grrrr This is another wonderful read by Wendy Knight, who has a knack for pulling you in to a wonderful story. I love unicorns, so especially enjoyed this book.
Scout was a wonderful MC and I really enjoyed the relationship she had with her sister.
Now Trey... Trey, Trey, Trey. Their relationship, or current lack thereof and how this came to be was very well done. This was something I haven't read a lot of in YA and found it very refreshing.
Definitely recommend.

This book had a rough start. There were editing issues that drove me crazy especially the authors repeated use of the characters names in the same sentence and paragraph. Thankfully it didn't take long for it to smooth out and I was able to concentrate on the story.
I'm glad I persevered because this was an awesome book. Unicorns aren't a common subject for books, probably because of the tendency to see them as slightly ridiculous fantasies suitable only for girly girls. But this series really created some kickass warrior unicorns that destroy demons and would be happy to kick most humans in the teeth.
Interesting subject matter, good story and nonstop action. I highly recommend these books.

Daar moet toch echt eens verandering in komen.

Zij is haar stralende middelpunt.

I have read very few young adult books about unicorns. I feel like they are hard to come by, especially ones in a contemporary setting like this novel. So when I was approached about doing this blog tour and writing a review, I jumped headfirst into it with the hopeful assumption that I would really enjoy it. Thankfully I was right and absolutely loved it! The main character and heroine of the novel, Scout, is still recovering from a car accident that almost took away her ability to walk a year ago. The only person she feels truly understands her is Lil Bit, her truly special younger sister, who everyone else is busy telling she needs to change and she's crazy. Because Lil Bit believes wholeheartedly in unicorns and their nemeses, soul stealers. Scout believes that Lil Bit is telling the truth as she sees it, not intentionally lying. But she's not sure whether or not to believe that either phenomenon is real, even though she might've seen a unicorn in the hospital after the accident. Scout is full of hurt and anger, but her family loyalty was something fierce to behold that I truly admired. I understand the feeling that you would walk through fire to get back your sibling from danger.

Trey is the other side of the coin, Scout's ex-boyfriend who abandoned her after the accident they were in together and now regrets his awful decision. He's wrestling with guilt over Scout's injuries and he's still in love with her, even though he's in a relationship with a girl named Kylin. But when the soul stealers attack the entire town, including Trey's family, he and Scout are taken to Paradesos to train with the battle unicorns to attack and kill the evil beings. He immediately bonds with a unicorn named Torz, while Scout has a tenative understanding with a sarcastic unicorn named Astra who has also suffered great pain in her life. A huge chunk of this book was set in Paradesos, while both teens were training to become warriors with their respective unicorns, and it was definitely some interesting world-building that I enjoyed reading. I really enjoyed the in-depth characterizations and the fact that this book was in third-person omniscient. It really let me get an inside look at both Trey AND Scout's feelings, so I never ended up hating Trey for his mistakes with Scout, or vice versa. Probably the most beautiful part of the book for me was the sister-to-sister relationship between Lil Bit and Scout. I also appreciated the fact that this book was clean. It was nice to read a book where the romance was key, but it didn't become the entire novel and the author didn't use it as an excuse to get nasty.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this one. I had a hard time putting it down to go to bed, desperately wanting to know what happened next! There is a REALLY big cliffhanger at the end, and I cannot wait to read the next book. Exactly the right balance of action and everything else, probably my only complaint would be how heavy the angst between Scout and Trey got. I am not a fan of angst and it became a focus point for me a little too long. Otherwise, I could find no real faults with this one! I highly recommend it to anyone in search of a good book involving some unicorns (be warned, these ones are rather fierce) and some interesting worldbuilding!

VERDICT: 4.5/5 Stars

Scout has been broken in more ways than one. The one person she trust completely is her little sister Lil Bit. Lil Bit is very special and sees unicorns and knows things. She knows Soul Stealers are on their way and the cause of an epidemic. Now she has to see if she really believes Lil Bit as it is up to her to save her town. She goes on the hunt for unicorns and is surprised at what she finds. Scout now has to help the unicorns fight the soul stealers but she has to learn to let go of all her pain. That is hard to do when the source of most of her pain is right with her. Her ex boyfriend just won't let go of her and wants to help her. Scout has to prepare for the battle of her life.

Scout has been hurt physically and mentally in her past. She holds a lot of anger inside her. Her one ray of sunshine is Lil Bit. She is also very tough as she battles pain to make Lil Bit happy. I really liked her as she has so much fire in her. Lil Bit is very special to Scout and I can see why. She is an innocent but very sweet person. Trey I did like even if he made a few mistakes. He did keep trying so I have to give him credit.

I love unicorns and as soon I saw this book I wanted to read it. It is so amazing and different. You get to know all about Scout and the others and what they have been through. It's not just the humans you get to know but the unicorns as well. You see why this battle rages on and what caused it. I love the scenes where the unicorns live it is a very magical place. I have to sat Scout got paired up with Ashra and they are the perfect match. they both have so much spirit and fire that they make a great team. I will say the one character I didn't like is Kylin I wanted to smack this girl so bad. This is packed full of adventure and is a magical journey. If you grew up loving unicorns you will love this book. I simply can't wait for the next one. I have to know what happens next.

As a little girl, I loved Unicorns! I cannot remember how many times I asked for one as a pet…lol. Wendy Knight has brought me my beloved Unicorns, in a way that I have never imagined. Scout is a heartbroken and bitter teenage girl, whose only love and friend, is her sister Lil Bit. Lil Bit is so much more than Scout’s little sister though. She knows when things are coming or are going to happen; no one wants to listen to her though. Scout tries her best to be there for Lil Bit, then things go horrible wrong. Scout’s entire town is taken by the Unicorn’s enemy! The person she wants the least to do with and her much ride the Warrior Unicorns to save THE WORLD. Scout is not ready to face this or to work with the one who broke her heart and his new girlfriend. Oddly either she is her unicorn. Though the bond of bitterness they fight fiercer than anyone. Will it be enough to defeat what must be defeated, another book can only tell. Wendy Knight’s book gives us a new mythology for a well know beloved creature. This book is on my reread list and pinned for the next book as well.

This book needs to be made into a movie--stat!!! I always go into reading YA novels a little unsure of what to expect. Some I really enjoy and totally get and others just make me laugh out loud. With those, somehow I just can't suspend my disbelief. Not a problem here:) Warrior Beautiful, however, reminds me of J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan rolled into one. That's how epic the battle scenes are in this book. They are so descriptive and full of such great action, I couldn't help but wonder what graphic artists and cgi techs could do with it on film.

The other thing I really enjoyed about this book is how the author ramps up the stakes for the characters in every single chapter. You think that they've experienced all they can handle . . . until the next chapter and it just get worse, but then you empathize so much with them and how they decide to solve it. I also really admired Scout's love for her sister and the sacrifices she is willing to make for her. Scout's relationship with Trey was painful to watch unfold. She has so much to hold against him. The author has you wondering the whole time if it is beyond repair. Since Warrior Beautiful ends on a cliffhanger, I'm quite excited for the next installment.

I found this book interesting for two reasons: 1) I haven't read a book about unicorns before, and certainly not warrior unicorns, and 2) The protagonist wasn't the character I expected it to be. As a result the story was full of cool twists.

This is the kind of book that begs to be filmed. The visual aspects are so breathtaking that it's a treat to imagine them. I'd love to see what a variety of filmmakers would do with the design. The unicorns are huge, glossy, and magical; the world they inhabit is drop-dead gorgeous. Lots of fodder for visual artists here (pun intended).

While I enjoyed the premise of the romance, the characters felt a bit distant to me. I think this was because we weren't deep enough into their heads, which is not to say that the story should have been written in first person. I just felt that we didn't see enough of the processes that led to their feelings, especially in the case of Trey. The lovers were special to each other and yet I couldn't quite see why.

I'm interested to see how Kylin's role develops in the series. She was so whiny throughout the story and then at the end . . . I won't spoil it. Suffice it to say that she began to show promise.

I received an ARC from the author but my opinions are my own.

I was absolutely blown away by this book! I entered it not sure what would happen or if I would even like. I didn't like it I loved it! I want more! Warrior Beautiful is exactly that, beautiful! This book holds nothing back from the reader at all. The amazing battle scenes were as epic as Harry Potter and that's saying a lot coming from a huge Harry fan. I couldn't put this book down I blazed through it. Feeling like I had fought some of the battles myself right along side the main character Scout. Scout is a beautiful girl with a huge heart especially where her sister Lil Bit is concerned. Scout finds herself in some gut wrenching battles to save the one person who has the heart of a true believer. I will be keeping this book on my reread shelf and will be excitedly awaiting the next in the series!

I received this book for free to read and review as part of the Wicked Reads Review team

This book has a really good plot. I like that kids are the riders of the unicorns. The typical unicorn is basically what most people consider white and just hangs out in the forest or something BUT Wendy Knight's unicorns they fight demons. They're pegasus unicorns and each unicorn has a different kind of color for the group they are in. Like the battle unicorns or the healing unicorns.
I liked Lil Bit, even though people tell her that these things were not real she kept believing.
The story is very detailed, you can actually picture things in the book; like a movie in your head.

I would recommend this to my friends and I am 13 years old.

If you loved Feudlings, it will be hard to say what you feel about this book! It is simply awesome! Great character interactions with characters that come to life. Awesome fight scenes. AND if you're skeptical about it being a unicorn book, stop because these unicorns are the best depiction of one I've read! Not weak, small, innocent creatures. They are big, strong, fierce beings that do the battling! You will be amazed I promise!

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well fleshed out, even the unicorn ones. One of the things I admire about Wendy Knight's books is that the heroine is very strong and capable, the type of girl I would want my daughter to read about and want to relate to. I appreciate the clean language as well. The story is imaginative and fresh, and it has...talking unicorns! Overall, an excellent read.

I wasn't sold on the idea of unicorns at the beginning, but the author has taken me on so many good rides, that I figured, heck why not. And so I went for it and enjoyed every moment of the trip. The story never lags, disrupts believability, or emotional charge. I loved the main characters within moments and at the end I found myself salivating for the next episode.

Another great fantasy from Wendy Knight. I love that the heroines in Wendy Knight's books are the ones who do the saving, they don't need to rely on a man to save them. The battle scenes were full of detail and had me biting my lip not waiting to see who made it out of them alright.

This was a quick read but full of fun action and BATTLE UNICORNS. Aka unicorns full of stabby goodness. The protagonist, Scout, isn't your typical badass warrior though. She has to deal with chronic pain due to an accident, a little sister who sees things no one else can, and an ex-boyfriend she's determined to hate. On top of these, demons are stealing people's souls, including those of her family. Oh and did I mention the battle unicorns? I really liked the relationship dynamics between Scout and Trey and their families as well as the history that puts them at odds. I did think some of the drama seemed forced, particularly when it comes to Kylin, who I found unbearably annoying. But overall, the book was enjoyable and there. Were. Battle. Unicorns. Stabby stab. 'Nuff said XD

What an adventure. Black Unicorns, Green Unicorns, Blue Unicorns in fact most of the colours except White. They are so rare they are hardly ever seen, but Scouts little sister has one as her guardian. Unfortunately it can protect her from the monsters come to get her. Maybe Scout can. She has to learn how to fight with the Black Unicorns who are the warriors of the Unicorn race in Paradeso. Will she ever e able to save her sister and her family?

*This book was received via the author in exchange for an honest review*
Again Wendy Knight has out done herself with this series “Riders of Paradesos”.
In this story is about Scout who discovers in a desperate attempt to save her sister Lil Bit, that she can see, hear and speak to Unicorns, and these are your normal Unicorns, these are black battle unicorns come down to save earth from the soul-stealers.
Scout teams up with her ex Trey who become riders on the unicorns to battle the soul-stealers and save everyone.
Again I was so gripped in this book I couldn't put it down, I enjoyed the way the Scout and Trey interacted with their unicorn in battle, but even though Scout was in so much pain she needed to save her little sister.
Looking forward to the next installment of the "Riders of Paradesos Series" Warrior Everlasting.

I decided to read Warrior Beautiful based solely on the cover. Seriously. Look at it! It promises mighty, flying unicorns! I was expecting it to be High Fantasy though, since I never read the description. It's just our world but with hidden unicorns. There's some strange pandemic making its way across the continent. People are just falling over and becoming totally comatose. No one knows what's happening, except for Scout's little sister, Lil Bit. She can see the evil soul stealers which are doing just that, stealing souls. She can also see the unicorns who fight them. But then Lil Bit's soul is taken, along with almost everyone in their small Montana town. Now it's up to Scout and her exboyfriend, Trey, to save the world!

I wanted to love this one so much, but Warrior Beautiful didn't fully work for me for one main reason: everything felt dumbed down. I did really like the story, and found it all incredibly unique and fun, but I immediately noticed that the writing was very stiff, straightforward, and at times felt juvenile. Everything was simplified or just not explained for whatever reason. One thing early on was that Scout and Trey are partnered up for a science project. Random science words like materials, hypothesis, and chemical reaction are thrown around but we have no clue what the project it. It could be anything, but it's definitely science of some kind since they're doing test runs and collecting data.

The world building was also described in this simplistic way, but it was made worse by the fact that Scout and Trey are told that it's being simplified for them. When they get to the beautiful unicorn world in the sky, and Iros (the only human there) is explaining everything to them, he says certain things have long, complicated names but then just uses terms like "soul stealer" and "magical unicorn fire." On top of that, the different types of unicorns are all named using anagrams of what they do. Leerhas are healers. Irwarrios are warriors. Ekse are seekers/trackers. I had to roll my eyes at this.

There is a romance in Warrior Beautiful, but it's certainly not instalove and there is no love triangle! Scout and Trey have been broken up for about a year, after a tragic car accident left her with constant back pains and he never once visited in the hospital because he felt guilty. Scout is harboring a lot of pain from his abandonment and is finding it impossible to forgive him even though she knows he still loves her. He does have the worst girlfriend in the world, and it's obvious to everyone except her that Trey isn't even into her. Of course, being thrown into an epic battle between unicorns and skeletal demons heightens emotions and brings our love birds back together.

Warrior Beautiful ends on a cliffhanger! Just when things are getting really dangerous and actiony, it ends! Just like that, it's over. What?! Despite my issues with the writing, I was really enjoying this one! The unicorns, at least the warrior ones, are super badass! The others are pretty much jerks, since they hold a grudge against humanity, but they're still pretty awesome, too. I can't wait for the second book!

" Warrior Beautiful" is an imaginative and intense fantasy that transforms unicorns of myth into fiery battle warriors fighting for humanity against a plague of black skeletal demons with vicious claws for hands who are stealing the souls of the innocent. In Columbia Falls, Montana Scout Kordel a teen struggling not only to overcome a serious injury but to heal her broken heart is thrust into the battle after her sister Lil Bit and her parents are struck down by a pandemic that has left them in a comatose state in the hospital. Yearning to save her family from the soul stealers threatening her community, Scout joins forces with her hated ex- boyfriend as well as the unicorns to fight the demons, finding healing from her bitterness and a beating heart that's never stopped loving Trey.

The plot is fast-paced and action-packed as Scout, Trey and their unicorns continually fight black clouds of the dreaded demons, destroying many but finding it's only a small drop in a vast host wanting to steal their souls. Intensity and suspense escalate not only as their victory in battle increases, but with the tension mounting between the two as Scout tries to hate the boy who failed her when she was hospitalized. She finds her heart drawn to him even though his new girlfriend Kylin is in Paradesos, the unicorns' haven after being rescued from the dark monsters hunting them. Even though I often found a disconnect because of missing details or timing inconsistencies the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat with twists and turns that are filled with shocking surprises. As events unfold and the excitement mounts the ending vibrates with a violent confrontation that culminates in a gripping cliff-hanger.

Scout Kordel suffering from back pain after an accident is a fighter, determined to regain the freedom of movement in the dancing she loves. Yet her life is riddled with bitterness and hatred especially against the teen who betrayed her love while she lay in the hospital. In her connection to her warrior companion the sarcastic and angry unicorn Ashra who's haunted by the pain of loss, Scout begins to heal as both turn their rage into a powerful fighting force. Trey Hanlin plagued by guilt has tried to stifle his feelings for Scout with other meaningless relationships including with self-centered, temperamental and possessive Kylin who uses whining, crying and even threats to keep him in line. With a girlfriend who's controlling, manipulative and is totally unlikable it's hard to believe that he'd stay with her because he didn't want to hurt her feelings. Although nothing in Scout and Trey's romance held me spellbound, I did feel Scout's strong sisterly bond to Lil Bit a sweet and innocent eleven year old who's an outcast at school.

Because this is a fascinating plot with characters that I expect will develop with each new challenge I intend to follow this trilogy and look forward to reading the next book in the " Riders of Paradesos".

OMG! That was freaking fantastic! I've already started the second book, I need to know what happens because that ending, it was like reading Make of Athena all over again!

I've nerve been big on reading about unicorns, though I do like them and have a few pics of them kicking about (my first poster was of a unicorn, and one of my favourite movies is The Last Unicorn), I never got into reading about them. Though , Drink, Slay, Love did a pretty good job at reimagining them. But Warrior Beautiful, damn, I want my own battle unicorn.

Wendy Knight basically did a overhaul on what we think unicorns should be like. She made them sexy, strong, and down right badass! Don't get me wrong, there's still glitter and sparkles, but with fire!

I love Scout, she is everything that a YA lead should be like. Loyal, strong, though broken she didn't do anything that I would deem as idiotic. Sure she has that one moment at the end, but hell I would have left too. I'm a pretty selfish person, so yeah, I'm so with you Scout.

I don't like Tray, I don't care if he's all still in love with her and what not, and feeling guilty, or what ever you want to toss in to justify his actions. In my eyes his a tool that Scout needs to let go off and just be herself and focus on healing and finding her sister. (Don't get me stared on his rebound girlfriend that he just simply had to forget about Scout... total jackass! Even his friends thought so).

Enough about that mess..

This book has a perfect pacing and leads you into the battle without you feeling to confused at the start. After that first bloody fight scene we are tossed into another world, and that is where the fun, the info, and the heartache truly begins. There are no secrets, what questions are asked a answer is given. I love how up front this book is, and it's that format that kept me reading, and then straight onto the next book!

I highly recommend this book, the action is bloody, the fight is hopeless, and I guarantee you will never look at a unicorn the same way again.

Happy Reading
