Author Note:
Immortal Confessions is the larger novel Surrender To Me was taken from. A prequel to Promise Me, providing not only the full story of Danial and Devlin's feud over Anna, but also Devlin's backstory of how he came to be the villain he is through the first books of the Promise Me Series.

My favorite book of the Promise Me Series to date :)

My Review:
This is Devlin's story, told from his POV. There were times while I was reading, that maybe Devlin felt remorseful for how he had acted in certain situations. I felt Devlin wanted to show his emotional side but didn't really know how, so he didn't. It was great to learn that he could actually have friends.

Devlin could also be a charmer and very loving when he wanted to. On the flip side, he could be merciless and unforgiving as well. I grew to like Devlin somewhat and understand how his past had molded him into the man he became. But he still scares the beegeesus out of me at times.

Ms. Fox tells Devlin's story with a lot of emotions and character surprises. The book is fast-paced, full of adventure, danger, unexpected twists and turns, and has a lot of sexual tension. I loved the secondary characters, they were well written and were full of depth and dimension.

I feel like I know Devlin a little better now and understand some of his motives and actions. After all I believe he only wants to make things better for the Vampires around him.

Immortal Confessions helped to fill in a lot of the hows, whats and whys of Devlin and a little bit for Danial. This is an important part of the story arc and should not be missed. I really enjoyed this book.

What drives a man -- a vampire -- to become a leader? To change his ways and be a better person? Tara Fox Hall explores this question as she follows vampire ruler Devlin Dalcon through the first decades of his rise to power in the supernatural world of 18th and 19th century France and America.

As a history buff, and a lover of vampire fiction, I found this very difficult to put down. Thoughtfully detailed, expertly planned, it is an absolutely compelling read. Tara Fox Hall makes it very easy to believe that this hidden world could have (and still) exist, just outside of human awareness. And Devlin Dalcon is a complex individual. It's very easy to sympathize with him, the ultimate outsider who finds himself thrust onto a very visible stage and into a position of power, for the accident of falling in love. Devlin is someone I would dearly love to sit with in a pub and share a drink (no blood for me, thank you), to discuss philosophy and the art of war, fine art and the events of history he's seen. If only our favourite characters could step out of the pages of our books and speak to us, in person, for a night… For an immortal, his struggles with family and career are very familiar, making him perhaps more human in some ways than he realizes.

I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the Promise Me series -- having this background on Devlin makes the story of Sarelle and Danial (Devlin's brother) all the more clear. Immortal Confessions: betrayal and sacrifice, sin and redemption, power and love both given and unrequited… this book is easily one of my favourites of 2013.

After living almost two hundred years as a vampire, Devlin Dalcon finds the love of his life. Only one problem, she’s mortal. Like in any relationship, problems arise and have to be solved. Devlin is determined to love and protect Anna any way he can. Leaving the countryside and heading to the city creates new problems for the couple. Devlin meets many new vampires and learns of a vampire world he had no idea existed. Settling into a life he can finally be comfortable in, Dev thinks he has it all, until he doesn’t.
This book was so good and hard to put down! I loved how the story developed. It’s just not a story about a vampire--witches, goblins, demons and weres are introduced and explained quite well in the story. The supernatural beings come together naturally to weave a tale of Dalcon’s life in the 1800’s.
I have to admit I wasn't a fan of Devlin in the author’s Promise Me series but this story explains his feud- love/hate relationship- with his brother, Danial. Since I’ve read all four books in the series, I was curious to read about Devlin Dalcon’s back story. Even if you haven’t read the series, this is a stand alone book that can easily be read without knowing character history, although it will be hard to resist continuing with the series. I’m pulling out my Promise Me - Book One - to skim through and read Devlin parts over again now that I know what makes the man...or should I say vampire…tick.

I received this book free of charge from Heartfelt Promos.
I'm not a fan of 18th/19th century fiction but I have to say I loved this book. I have not read any of The Promise Me series before but I can safely say I will be reading these books soon. At first I wasn't keen on Devlin but as the book progressed I began to like him more and more. The story was detailed and I loved the characters. After reading some other reviews I'm glad I've read this book before I begin the rest of the series. I rated this book 5 because I absolutely loved it. Can't wait to read the others.

This book reminded me a lot of Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire (congratulations for emulating one of the best). I don't particularly like books told in the first person because I feel like it doesn't take into account the other characters thoughts and feelings but in this case I don't think we are supposed to care about their thoughts and feelings so it worked well. I would have preferred more descriptiveness about the acts Devlin committed both in his killings and his beddings.
