All her life, Kinsey Masters has thought of herself as ordinary, boring almost. She had a normal upbringing, a stable career and a good love life, finally meeting “the One,” Colby.
But life has a funny way of turning the tables on you. Faced with a devastating diagnosis, Kinsey sets out to write her last story – her own.
Her journey reunites her with each man she’s fallen in love with and with their words, along with other friends and family, she pieces together the story of herself. With each meeting, Kinsey begins to realize that each of her past loves has happened for a reason. And she’s left footprints on their lives just like they did for her.
Brandy Jeffus Corona has always been a writer, even before she could wield a pen. She would dictate her stories to her mom who would type them on a typewriter. Thus began Brandy's love affair with the written word.
She is a wife and a mother to two awesome kids. Her best friend in the world is her mother. She's a true Texan, loving the Cowboys even when they suck and uses the words 'y'all' and 'fixin too'.
She reads more than she writes, volunteers at church, her children's school and with Girl Scouts and sometimes she spends too much time on Facebook.
It’s been since I’ve cried this hard in a book. I cried my heart out through Love, Kinsey for all sorts of different reasons and I’m kind of at a loss how to put into words the level of emotion this book elicited from me nor the effect this Kinsey’s story had on me.
“I’m okay, Colby. I’m going to die. And that’s okay,” I whisper. That statement scared the living daylights out of me. – Kinsey
Love, Kinsey had me sobbing, and I mean SOBBING for hours after finishing it. I cried tears of sadness and I cried tears of hope and I cried because an author, through her storytelling, made me realise just what life is all about. It reminded of the important things in life and how even the little things we do and what others do can touch a person’s life, directly or indirectly.
“This sucks, Rose. It really blows. I’m going to lose my best friend.” - Colby
Cancer is one of those subjects where so many have been affected and no one wants to be reminded of the pain or sorrow felt from through or from this insidious disease. However, what Brandy Jeffus Corona has achieved in her prose is to give us a heartfelt and beautiful story of a young woman who, after being given the most devastating news imaginable reaches out to those she has loved and who have loved her to witness the effect she could have possibly had on their lives and in that the author offers words to people who have dealt with or who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. I found this story to be somewhat therapeutic after losing a close young friend a year ago to cancer. Like Kinsey, my friend did get to say her goodbyes and she too was able to witness the effect her short life had made on other and so this story felt quite personal to me.
‘This was her journey to make; the journey to find out just how special she really was. How big of a difference she made in the lives she touched.’ – Colby
Love, Kinsey is poignant and it’s real. It’s sad yet uplifting. Everyone will take something away from this story, I know I did.Kinsey’s story is flawlessly told through the voices of Kinsey and her fiancé Colby. Both Colby and Kinsey completely and utterly stole my heart. And I have to say here and now, I was overawed at what a truly wonderful man Colby was.
“Don’t you do this, God. Do not take her away right now! I need her! I need her!” – Colby
As far as book heroes go, you won’t a man more befitting that title than Colby. He epitomized what that word means. He was so understandings with a heart full of love, loyalty and compassion and whose strength Kinsey so relied on in her life and in her final moments and this man had my heart.
‘Please. Please, let me keep her’ – Colby
Kinsey. Where do I start with this courageous, beautiful, sweet, loving and giving woman who had inadvertently touched so many lives? Kinsey was so full of life and love that it was incomprehensible to think of her suffering the way she did and that the life of such a beautiful soul could be cut short? Well, it shattered my heart to think of her this way.
‘I felt content. I felt whole, complete. I felt like I was ready to die. Now it was merely playing the waiting game.’ – Kinsey
Having the author tell their story so richly, in a way that makes the reader feel as though they are on this journey with Kinsey and Colby contributed so much to the overall experience I encountered in Love, Kinsey. It was touching and it was real.
‘I had to be strong for them. Telling a pair of parents their baby is going to die is hard, even harder when you’re talking about yourself.’ – Kinsey
Being there with Kinsey when she broke her tragic news to family and loved ones was devastating but it was Colby’s hearing feelings that destroyed my heart. Kinsey may have had many loves but this man was her true soul mate.
"Do you think this was the last time we’ll be able to make love?” -Kinsey
What he went through, what he did for Kinsey and how was trying to cope with the possibility of living without the love of his life…….yep that killed me. Kinsey and Colby really were unique and wonderful and just thinking about their story has me typing this review with tears streaming down my. God only knows how the author ever got through it because I am moved beyond words at what I experienced.
“Kinsey, you’re going to Heaven. You don’t need to be worried about that. You will go to an absolute paradise where He will wipe every tear from your face and you won’t suffer any longer.” – Landon
This was certainly a story that will stay with me for a long time. I witnessed the love, the anguish, the pain, the suffering, the beauty and the strength of so many people all within the pages of a book. Love, Kinsey taught me that we are not defined by riches or material items or personal achievements, but by the love and happiness we bring to others. It taught me to treasure every person in my life. It taught me to love deeply, laugh often and cherish every single minute I’m blessed to be here. Now how many times do you get to take that away from a book?
First and foremost. This was absolutely the most amazing and meaningful book i have ever read. It really makes you see how short our lives could be and the snap of a finger it could be over. I cried thru probably 95% of the book... Did i want to cry??? No. But it was amazing...
Kinsey, one of the most real and beautiful people there ever was. She went on a journey to find what her ex's learned from her and how it effected their lives... Not in a selfish way... NO. When she had a dream, that started it all. Knowing, that her time was coming... she would not, not do this.
All the love from her family and friends and ex's was amazing. I was sooo touched by this book. I finished it 10 minutes ago and im still crying. I can't stop. I am at work and people are looking at me crazy. Amazing book.
**** ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review ****
I have never read a book where I was basically crying or had tears in my eyes from start to finish.
After the prologue I honestly thought about sending Brandy a message and saying 'sorry, I can't read this', I was less then 5 pages in and my emotions were already stretched. I was already shedding tears.
From the very first page this story grabs hold of your heart and refuses to let go. It is the most emotionally retching and devastatingly beautiful story I have ever read and I implore everyone to read it.
Kinsey is a 29 year old woman who is engaged to an amazing man, Colby. They are given a horrific diagnosis which leads Kinsey on a journey of self discovery and acceptance of things that are beyond her control and Colby is by her side every step of the way. Kinsey is an exceptional young woman, a beautiful soul who loves deeply and is loved by others for everything she is.
Colby is amazing. How he deals with the news, his support, love and devotion for Kinsey, his plan and his talk with Kinsey's parents were all absolutely beautiful. It hurt my heart to experience the journey these two exceptional people have to go on.
Kinsey has a wonderful group of people that are there for her even when they are dealing with the difficult situation as well. Her parents, her two best friends, her brother and work colleagues are all there supporting and making her journey exactly what she needs it to be and she knows it's destroying them too.... 'This is what terminal illness did. Things like tumors and cancer. They destroyed many more than just the one person affected by the illness'.
The day that Kinsey spends with her brother Keaton was beautiful, they consider each other best friends and it was lovely when Keaton expresses his feelings for her.... "All my friends, they had bitchy older sisters and jerk off older brothers. But not me. You have always been my best friend and I don't want to lose you." Their bond as brother and sister is so strong that it was impossible not to feel saddened by the impending loss.... 'If you could miss people after you died, I knew I would definitely miss my sweet brother'.
When Kinsey meets up with her four previous loves, each reunion is unique and her story unfolds before our eyes. She has had such a positive impact on so many lives that she gets to discover exactly who she is and her place in the world.
As the rest of the story unravels we get to experience so many emotions that I wonder how Brandy ever actually finished writing Kensey's story. There is joy and happiness, some anger and of course heartbreak and absolute devastation, but the message behind the story is clear.... Every life is precious, every life is special and everyone leaves their own imprint on the lives of those around them.
When I finished reading this book and was shedding tears while telling my husband about it the next day, I realised just how deeply I was affected by Kinsey's story and I can guarantee that it will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I will warn people this... If you have experienced someone you love dying from cancer, brain tumor's or the likes of these diseases, this will be a more emotional read for you (which is why it affected me so much), but I will also say that you should definitely read this EXCEPTIONAL story because the tears and emotions are so worth it.
Brandy, what you have done with this story is nothing short of AMAZING! It flowed effortlessly, it pulled you in, the characters were brilliant but most of all it was REAL! I honestly don't think this review even touches on how much this story touched my heart and soul and all I can say is Thank You for allowing me to experience something truly UNFORGETTABLE!
I had the absolute pleasure of beta-reading this book and I'm so glad I did! This book was so beautiful! I was overwhelmed with emotion while reading it and at the end all that emotion just rose to the surface! I was in floods of tears! I always find it hard to read a book like this one because you know how it's going to end! I cannot fault this book at all though! I haven't really read a book like this one before! I think I've actually read one other book with a similar situation to what happens in this one, but it was really different! The plot of this book was so beautiful! It was hard to read at times because it's really sad and emotional, but I was drawn right into it! I actually had to put this book down a couple of times because my tears were on overload! The plot really hit me hard and I think that it will teach everyone who reads it to value what they have! Nobody knows what's around the corner and nobody knows what could happen that could change their life in a heartbeat! This book definitely taught me to live every day to the fullest! I do have to say though that this book was really short though! I understand why it was in a way, but I would have loved if it had been spread out a bit more to make it longer! I was really enjoying it and then it ended! I also think that if it was longer that I would have connected with the characters even more than what I did! The characters were amazing regardless! Kinsey was the main character and right from the start of this book my heart completely went out to her! She was told something that would personally break me, but Kinsey put on a brave face and she made the most of the time she had left! Throughout this book though I realised how strong Kinsey was and that actually made it even harder for me to say goodbye to her at the end! She was such a beautiful person inside and out that knowing what was eventually going to happen to her made me break inside! Colby was Kinsey's love interest and he was so supportive of Kinsey during her journey! He didn't falter when he found out the inevitable and instead he supported Kinsey right up until the last moment! I admired him so much for this! Also, the amount of love he had for Kinsey was breath-taking! This book was told from Kinsey's point of view, but I loved that a few special chapters were told from Colby's point of view! It was heart-breaking to get a glimpse into Colby's head! My heart completely went out to him! I completely understand why this book is a standalone! The ending summed up the whole book and it was so beautiful and so perfect that there is absolutely no way the author could write a second book! The cover for this book is stunning! The models on the front suit the characters of Kinsey and Colby perfectly! Big thank you to Brandy for asking me to beta-read Love, Kinsey!
I have dipped back into my unread books on my kindle and found this little gem that I purchased six years ago. Once again I wonder why it took me so long to read such a fabulous, heartfelt story.
Kinsey has recently been given devastating news. A health diagnosis that has no happy ending for her. The only thing she can control is how she spends the time she has left now. She is engaged to an incredible man, Colby, who she wishes she had more time with but once she decides how she wants to spend the rest of her days he is 100% behind her.
‘There was no time to grieve over time I wouldn’t have; only time to enjoy what I did have.’
Kinsey is a journalist and she wants to write about her life. Kinsey sets out on a journey to say goodbye to all the men she loved in her short 29 years. She wants to thank them for being a part of shaping who she is now and ask them what impact she had on their lives.
As Colby and Kinsey set out on this road trip, they also have the opportunity to create some amazing memories of their own along the way. Kinsey is humbled by what each of these lovely men have to tell her and it makes her see how you can have an impact on someone without realising it is happening.
‘You taught us each something about ourselves, about life, about love. We were each a different person after you left us.’
This story was not going to have a happy ending but Kinsey had the opportunity to bring closure to all the relationships that were important to her. I laughed and cried and was so glad that I read this beautiful story :)
Have you ever watched a really great movie, that heart wrenching but also very touching love story that made you cry from start to finish but have those moments of nothing but uncontrollable, ugly cry but when all is said and done, you are heartbroken but having the really great cry, letting it all out you feel so much better, well this is the book version of that movie and it's 100 times better.
"You never leave someone behind; you take a part if them with you and leave a part of yourself behind"
I knew going in that this book was going to cause me to ugly cry but I very quickly learned that I was going to read a very touching story and experience an amazing love between two people.
Kinsey is such an amazing female lead, how she takes and then deals with her diagnosis is nothing short of astounding. Along her journey of reuniting with past loves in the process of writing her last story-her own, she truly learns so much about herself. But like every human being she has her moments of weakness and I could help but live her even more for them.
"You taught us each something about ourselves, about life, about love. We were each a different person after you left us"
Colby, OMG, how could I not love him. I love how he stood beside her, supported her and most importantly loved her so very much, not everyone would do what he did
This was truly a very touching yet sad love story but a story of Kinsey's life. It's a story that made me stop and reflect on my life, what I have done and who have I touched and I love when a book does that.
This story was amazing, glad I took the recommendation to read it and will definitely be reading more of this author
Ok so, Towards the beginning of this book I wasn't really sure if I would like it. It took some more in depth reading to really grab me, but eventually it did and I ended up loving it. It is well written and it was very emotional. I have never cried so hard reading a book before. "Love Kinsey" Is a very beautiful story about strength, courage, love, and above all, Living life to the fullest and not taking it for granted. It teaches a very valuable lesson in time management and real life trials and tribulations that people actually do go through everyday that do not always get the fairytale that everyone would like to have. the beginning of the book was sirt if like a puzzle, just pieces of one thing here and one thing there, but like I said, I kept reading and turned out to really love it. Thank you Brandy Jeffus Corona for entrusting and coming to me to be one of the first people to be lucky enough to have your masterpiece in my hands. I think you will go far with this book and I wish you success in your own journey. ;)
I cried on and off all afternoon as I read this one. This is the first by Brandy and I don't think it will be her last. Its about Kinsey a 29 year old engaged reporter finding out she has a terminal brain tumor and not long to live. Colby who is her fiance encourages her to write her story after she has a dream with all five of her loves in it. She has a high school boyfriend , one after high school, college boyfriend, and one right after college and her present love Colby. She goes on a journey to say goodbye to each one and ask what they remember about her and if she had an impact on their lives. I usually won't read a book this sad, but for some reason I bought it, so I thought I needed to read it. I'm so glad I did. yes, it makes you cry and it is sad, but it tells about whats really important in life. A great read
Has anyone gotten through this book without crying? My guess is no. No way. I really contemplated before beginning it as I really don't like to be sad enough to cry and I just knew this was going to be a real tearjerker. It was, and yes, I did cry...and cry. Yet I am still glad I read it. The message is less about death than about living and appreciating it while you are doing it. A great message for all of us. It's easy to take life for granted, easy to get overtaken with stupid pittances, hold grudges, see the bad before the good. We all need to stop that. This book shows how our daily gossip and gripes seem ridiculous, even pitiful.
I recommend this to ALL - men, women, young, old, black, white, hindu or christian...it's about life and no matter where in the world we are - we are all in it together. Life matters, every single one -and we must never forget that.
OMG!!! I had tears from the very beginning!!! This book took you into the life of a women who was given months to live. And because of a dream, she reflected back on those whose lives she left an impression on. The journey itself was warring her down, not just emotionally but physically. Kinsey, kind, loving, trusting had a very good and loving support system through this whole ordeal. Especially Colby... Oh how heartbreaking it was for him. But it let you into a situation that not many people think about or want to deal with. Kinsey's spirit shined bright throughout the story. With her voicing her concerns and fear, she never gave up, she pushed forward to get goodbye. This was really really good, I would recommend as a must read!!!
Kinsey finally finds put why she has been ill, and the results are not good. However her boyfriend Colby decides to help her live her last few months to the fullest. Since she writes for a newspaper she decides to wrote her final story about herself. Kinsey goes back and talks to her old loves about what she taught them. While watching her unravel Colby decides he needs to marry her, his biggest love. This is a very sweet, emotional read. I cried through the story, the author did an amazing job connecting you to the characters. Please read this story at home and with tissues! But know that it's not the end :) WaAR
I had no clue that this book was going to make me cry so much. My husband had to go buy me 3 big boxes of tissues throughout the time if took me to read this book which was only a matter if days.
Kinsey made me look at my past relationships and ask myself what I took from them when they were over. I then realized that I am the woman, wife, mother that everyone thought I was going to be. And the man that I am married to today is the man that I was supposed to be with from the beginning.
It's a tricky book to review this one ! It was a very sad topic but covered beautifully. If I were to have one negative it would be that I just felt there was more of a story there to tell, more about Kinsey and Colby's life before, or his after, I felt a bit like it was too abrupt. Any how's I really liked the concept of the different loves at different times, was intrigued to know how and why she spilt up from them. Defiantly worth a read but be prepared to shed a tear.
I just thought "Again" was an amazing love story. This is a beautifully written love story. Soul mates, true loves, faith, family, and friends, that's really all anyone needs. Kinsey is so courageous and brave, helping the family cope, during the crap hand she's been handed. God works on mysterious ways and has a plan for every single one of us. Make sure you have plenty of Kleenex!!!
I don't think I've ever cried so much while reading a book in my life. I love reading but lately I've been bored with the same old stories being told over and over again, I was really looking for something different to get me out of my funk and found this gem what a heart wrenching but heart warming and beautiful story.
WOW!! Amazing, Awesome book!! I laughed , cried and cried so more. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'm just going to say buy it and read it, you won't be disappointed. You have a new fan Brandy!!!
Absolutely beautiful. I needed this book. While I cried my eyes out I can appreciate the message. Thank u for writing such a moving story. Kinsey will be forever in my heart too .

"Do you believe in soul mates? That there is one person in the whole world just for you?" "Now I believe that we have multiple soul mates in our lives and our free will changes our destiny and outcome."
Love, Kinsey has touched my heart and soul. I wanted to wait to write my review until I could get my emotions in check, but this book is the kind that sticks with you. It is rare to find a book that moves you so much that you think to yourself, I will never be the same. This is one of those books. It grabbed onto me from the very first paragraph and I did not put it down until I read the whole book. I will warn you, you will cry and cry some more. I sobbed until my eyes were swollen and I couldn't cry another tear, then I cried again. It made me look at my life, rethink what each day means to me and want to make sure I show kindness to my fellow neighbors and stangers. Life can be beautiful, but we are never guaranteed a tomorrow.
Brandy really captured the essence of true love and loss. My heart broke for each of Kinsey's friends and family members. But most of all I was inpacted by Kinsey's courage, selflessness and loving attitude. The strength she showed in her time of crisis was truly inspiring. A beautiful and compassionate book that I recommend highly.
this is such a heartfelt and wrenching yet sweet tragic story, to sum it up. dealt with some devastating and terminal news, Kinsey feels bad for the pain she's causing everyone around her. such a selfless person, she is. in her final days and months, she goes on a journey to find put what kind of legacy she is leaving behind.
to do that, she goes to each of her four past loves and interviews them for her last story. right by her side, no matter what, is her fiancée, Colby. he stands by her as she meets with each ex, knowing there is no jealousy, and nothing to worry about. he is such a sweetheart. he doesn't run away, and in fact does the exact opposite.
this is a truly moving story. it teaches you to live life to its fullest, and to take nothing for granted. make sure your loved ones know how much you care about them. it also shows us how something insignificant to us, can mean a whole lot more to someone else, and we truly do have an impact on people around us.
I have only read one other story with a similar storyline to this, but this book is unique in itself, as the heroine takes a different path for herself. be sure to have a box of tissues on hand, this book will for sure start up the waterworks.
Not that I don't have a heart, but I don't normally full on cry when reading a book, or even movies for that matter.
Oh did I just do that, YES, I did, this was a beautifully flawless written book, going through the last few months of Kinsey's life, living through her her final meetings with her 4 previous boyfriends and soul mates. Whilst going through all this with her fiance Colby, what a very special couple.
I was feeling the loss of Kinsey, after I finished the book, even sitting here with tears in my eyes and deep sighing!
I am so glad I randomly chose to read this book from my TBR list on my kindle, such heartfelt words, so full of love and passion.
Terminal illness is a bitch, but how you told this story will touch the hearts of anyone who reads it. I felt Luke a voyeur to Kinsey and Colby as they embark on this final journey of discovery, the beautiful wedding they had! Your compassion comes through leaps and bounds Brandy.
One word to describe this book is touching. I laughed and cried while reading this book (never cried reading a book before). It was amazing to read what type of person she was and what kind of lessons you could really learn from this book as well. It really makes you realize that it doesn't matter how old you are, how rich or poor you are, or even how popular you may be that your day may come sooner rather than later and that you don't need to take it for granted. That you must live you life to the fullest with no regrets. To try and fulfill your dreams and to also treat people better. It's an amazing book and you will definitely not be disappointed in reading this. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Brandy you have out done yourself yet again I can't wait to see what you write next.
I was given a copy of this book by the author for a honest review.
All I can say after reading this book is make sure you have a box of tissues nearby. This was a very emotional book. I have never read a book more real than this. The way the author wrote this book makes you really connect with the characters. I was in tears on the second page. Heart breaking tears, because you can't imagine someone having to go through this. Kinsey is one of the strongest and bravest characters in a book that I have read. I am honored that the author gave me a chance to read and review this book. I highly recommend people to read this.
Sometimes is feels good to have a good cry, this book definitely causes tears. What amazed me about this book, is even though it is not very long, Kinsey's character is so well developed. I felt like I knew the kind of person she was. The legacy of love and loyalty she left behind was really quite beautiful. I felt the loss for Colby and her friends and family. Be warned, you will need tissues if you are reading this book. There is a beautiful story behind the sadness and perspective on life that makes it worthwhile.
Wow, my heart is shattered right now. I read this book in one day, that's how good it was. It was a very powerful and meaningful book. Oh poor Kinsey. She just went through the hardest thing anyone could go through. Colby wow he's was always there for her. He's an incredible guy. I love him. My fave quote in this book is "live your life and love it " Kinsey. Please read this book you will not be disappointed. Oh warning have a book a tissue. <3 this book.
There are lessons you can learn from books this had one easily pointed out. Live life and love. I had lost 2 dear friends recently at their ages of 29. One taken at his choice and one all of sudden. This book brought all the feelings I had for them as their 30th birthdays pasted. Life is so short! If you are looking for a tear jerker boy is this the book for you.
Oh my goodness! This book was so emotional and so breathtaking. A truly inspiring book that is a must read! Caution!! Grab the Kleenex s because you will cry. Big Fat Ugly Tears!!!! I was given this book by the author and I can say that i was so blessed to have been given this book. This is a must read. a story of courage and strength and of loss. BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN!!!!
I was just kind of browsing through my kindle for a short book and happened upon this download. I don't even remember downloading it and had no idea what it was about, but started it anyways.
I didn't expect to end up sobbing at the end of it. There was so much emotion and beauty within such a short story.
