Silver Lake

Rain Anderson can’t decide which is more unsettling—encountering the ghost of her missing friend, or reuniting with the man whose love she foolishly rejected. But one thing is certain: the past has come back to haunt her, quite literally.

Five years ago, Rain’s tight-knit group of high school friends unraveled when one vanished during their senior year. Now, a parent’s deathbed request has reunited the friends at Silver Lake, including Jason Lansing, the man Rain discarded.

Rain and Jason discover the powerful attraction between them has survived, but though Jason is willing to forgive, he can’t let himself forget. The possibility of falling for Rain again is too risky.

Slamming doors, crashing objects, flaring fires—clearly the ghost has a message to share. As Rain and Jason struggle to unravel the truth, they must face a desperate spirit in need of help…and a burning passion that refuses to die.

This is the first book by this author that I have read. Of course it was the promise of a ghost story that prompted me to read it. It’s part mystery and part romance with visits from Brandy, the ghost of Rain’s friend that went missing many years ago. I wondered if the ghost of Brandy hadn’t been tied to Rain all the time but it took the friends getting together again at Silver Lake to make her appear and become active. Whatever it was it made for a very good ghost story. I could even overlook the romance. I will be searching for more of Kathryn Knight’s books.

I am not sure what I was expecting, as this is Ms. Knight's first published novel, but let me say, I am really looking forward to the next one. Romance not being my main focus in reading selections, I was pleasantly surprised when I finally shut the book.

The premise of the book is pretty straight forward, High School friends get together after a five year hiatus to try and solve the mysterious disappearance of their friend. The characters are developed at a leisurely pace which is nice. You get a chance to learn about each of them as the story progresses. This keeps the mystery going throughout the pages. In the end, I felt that I knew each one of them as well as they knew each other.

As far as the mystery is concerned, the clues are subtle. There are several times that you are thrown off the track and you start to questions certain clues and whether they pertain to the story or not. I really enjoyed the pace of the storytelling. It had a very nice flow and wrapped up very nicely.

As far as the "Paranormal" side of the story, you do not have to take much of a leap of faith to believe. I think this is because the main character, Rain, is in somewhat a state of disbelief as well. The descriptions of what she is hearing and seeing (or what she believes she may be hearing and seeing) are done quite well. While personally I have not made up my mind about the paranormal, the author made me believe in what was being described.

This story could have ended in several different ways; however I liked the direction and conclusion it took. The book was an enjoyable read and as I wrote earlier, I am really looking forward to the next one. If Ms. Knight were an experienced author, with 7 or 8 novels under her belt, I would rate this 9/10. Since this is her first published work, I have to give her a 12! Thanks you for a very enjoyable read.

I can not believe this is a debut book. I found it completely entrancing.
The paranormal elements of this book were captivating, however, not the most important part of the story for me.
Four high school friends have come together after five years to figure out what caused the disappearance of the fifth person in their old circle. The dynamics of their friendships, all they've experienced since parting, the secrets they've hidden, the people they've become, all blend together to shape an unforgettable story.
I'm looking forward to reading more books by Kathryn Knight.

My rating : 3.5 out of 5 stars

Rain Anderson has alot going on in her life. One would think divorce from her highschool sweetheart would play the heaviest on her mind but it's dreams of her missing friend that keep her up at night...and chilled by day.

Silver Lake is a haunting tale of 4 friends, who since lost touch after highschool, coming together to try to solve a mystery. It was 5 years ago that Brandy went missing and the group of friends were never the same thereafter. Nor was Brandy ever found alive, or otherwise. Brandy's mother is gravely ill so Rain and friends Jason, Allie and A.J. all agree to meet at A.J.'s former family lake house in one last attempt to solve this mystery so that her mother may die in peace and these distant friends can begin to truly heal.

I will admit that Silver Lake isn't quite my norm. I was intrigued by the blurb and took the opportunity to enter Ms. Knight's giveaway and lucky me, I won! When I began reading, I noted to a friend that while "romance" somewhat takes a backseat, I enjoyed the flow of the book and the characters she brought to life. I'm one of those people though, that yell at the movie screen "Don't open that door!" or "OMG, you know if you pick up the phone, the dead girl will be on the other end!" When random puddles of water started appearing here and there and characters kept it hush hush...ok, yeah, I yelled at my Kindle a couple of times.

I figured out the where rather quickly, the who however, had me going back and forth. I enjoyed the interaction between the 4 main characters. There is a lot of healing and self realization in this book, along with romance that's being given a second chance. I feel the ending was a bit rushed but overall I like this authors style and word building. I would like to read more from her in the future.

Silver Lake is part mystery, romance, and even a visit from the paranormal, all around a great, satisfying read.

A group of friends are reuniting after years apart. The one thing that's unsettled between them- and difficult to think about, is a disappearance of one of their own. It's been eating at them for five years. Now they have to finally come to terms and figure out what's going on.

There's times where I'm startled in the book- firstly, by the ghostly visitor that keeps hanging around. I'm all for a bit of a parnormal ghost visit, and yes, I read this at night, which meant I got a little jumpy. The friends are sorting through their past and trying to decipher any clues. I was pretty surprised at the ending, and it totally caught me off guard, which is a good thing! The one bit of a draw back was that the story flashed back to their high school days, and I, at times, had a hard time following along from the transition. Other than that, this is a well written story with characters that are beleivable, and the mystery is strong. I enjoyed the romance blossoming between Rain and Jason, and was glad Rain got a new start after the divorce of her jerk of an ex-husband.

Looking forward to more from Ms. Knight.

Hauntingly good!

This mystery is wonderfully crafted with lots of romance mixed in. The characters are realistic and brave. The plot and pacing kept me intrigued throughout and I got serious chills in spots. I found myself really pulling for the main characters to get together. It was a fabulous journey!

I really liked this book. My only complaint is that the plot twists at the end were kinda underwhelming, as I expected something more sinister. They still made sense with the flow of the story.

Five years ago, Brandy goes missing. Her tight knit group of friends is devastated. Now Brandy’s mom is on her deathbed and needs to know what really happen to her daughter, who has been haunting her dreams. Brandy’s mom contacts Brandy’s friends to come back together at Silver Lake and find the truth of what has happen to Brandy.

Rain, Jason, Allie, and AJ all come together at the lake house. Rain is recently divorced from her cheating high school boyfriend. Jason is in a dead end relationship, waiting for the right time to end it. Allis is happily married with twin autistic boys but is keeping a secret. AJ comes from a very influential family where only the best is accepted and is also keeping a secret.

As they spend more time together things happen. Doors slam, things fall off shelved, and a ghost of Brandy is seen. The group knows the answer is out there and that Brandy is trying to lead them to her. They just have to follow the clues to get to the answer.

This is Kathryn Knight’s first published novel and all I can say is WOW! Every character in the book is perfectly developed. The background given is just enough without giving too much information. By the end of the story I felt like I had been at the lake house with them all. Hanging out and experiencing what they had.

The ghost of Brandy gave me chills many times. The clues she left her friends kept me at the edge of my seat having to know what had happen to her. I loved that she was more prevalent when all four friends were together. Some of the clues threw me off as to what happen and some confirmed what I was thinking.
The ending could have gone so many ways, but I am so happy with how it was written. I feel like everything was settled and the characters all had their lives put right.

I could not put this book down. I highly recommend this story to everyone. Romance, drama, renewal of friendships, and ghosts. Sounds like something for everyone. I cannot wait to see what Kathryn Knight writes next.

The Lake House is a great book. You have your supernatural happenings , Romace, drama and 4 friends coming together again to reknew their relationships. what more do you need in a single book?!

Connecting with the characters was so easy. Rain, newly divorced from a jerk husband, Allie tired and just in need of alone time from her children that she's keeping a secret about..yes you have to read it, I'm not telling.
You have A.J. Who was the missing girls boyfriend and no matter all the happenings he refuses to believe she's trying to contact them.
And Jason, Rains object of desire I would say. He's in a bad relationship, Rain wants him and vise versa..you have to read for that outcome too. :)

so the past seems to have come back to haunt them from the minute they get to the lakehouse, strange happenings, doors opening on their own, crashing objects, when brandys name is brought up at the campfire it blazes and almost burns Rain, The photo book Rain has keeps getting tossed to the floor and opening to a picture of the friends..a lot of supernatural happenings. Jason the great swimmer being pulled under..hmmm..a lot more then this too goes on and they all keep secrets about them. is it because they don't believe or are afraid to believe ?
Me myself I believe in spirits so this book wasn't far fetched for me. I think it had a lot of could be true happenings going in.

Brandy was giving them clues from the dreams to the many other things I meantioned above to her disappearance.
I think Katherine did a great job writtng this book , itsvery well written and thought out , she makes you feel like your in the story which is a big plus for a writter.
I can't wait to read her next book!

Rain Anderson recent divorce has left her reeling and discouraged to say the least. Rain is asked by parent of her best friend Brandy to find some closure and what really happened to her. Rain agrees and helps organize reunion between the high school friends which include Jason Lansing. Jason Lansing is on the verge of ending his relationship with Cara but can't seem to find a way to tell her or even discuss their relationship. Jason is looking forward to reunion but also dreading it too. Jason has too many memories of the past to remind not to get to close with Rain again. All the friends have been experiencing dreams and nightmares about Brandy. Each of them are having strange experiences as well. Rain is sure that Brandy is trying to tell them something but what that is the question. Will the group find the answers they seek? Your answers to this mystery await you in Silver Lake.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the story was well thought out and unique. I admired AJ and Rain for the courage to try again even if it hurts to do so. The title of this book is aptly named because you'll be surprised by the answers that await you.

Wonderful, Light, Romantic with a paranormal mystery thrown in!! This is really not my genre of reading material but from the moment I picked up this book I could't put it down. The main characters are best friends who after there senior year at school parted. All with different issues but the one main issue is what happened to there friend Brandy? Over 5years later it seems that there all haveing similar distrubing dreams about Brandy and Rain is contacted by Brandy's Mom to get everyone together to solve the mystery. The 4 friends get together at a cabin that use to belong to AJ(one of the friends). Rain is to stay there all summer and the other 3 are to meet back for weekends to try to solve the mystery. Well with 2 ladies and 2 gentleman an old love obsession and of course a ghost trying to get her story out make for a wonderful mystery and the romance is definitely not lacking. Like I said I couldn't put it down. My only negative is I was hoping it to continue I wanted more. For a first time author this was truely a gem and can't wait to read more of her books!! I'm recomending this book to my 23yo daughter, I believe she would love this!!

*FTC Disclaimer: I received a copy of Silver Lake from Kathryn Knight in exchange for an honest review. I have in no way been influenced by the author and/or publisher's generosity. You can't fake these stars, baby!

Still reeling from her recent divorce, Rain Anderson is willing to do anything to distract herself. She's practically flinging herself into the arms of fate at this point! Desperate women are hot. Words of wisdom right there. (FYI: I should never ever have an advice column.)

When Rain is contacted by the mother of an old friend, she agrees to help the woman with her dying wish...find out what happened to Brandy.

Chills, people!

Okay, Kathryn Knight is my go-to author for romantic suspense because this is just WHAT. SHE. DOES. BEST. So now, Rain throws herself into the challenge, spurred on by the frightening appearances of Brandy's ghost, and arranges for a trip to Silver Lake with the three other members of her high school clan.

If you don't have goosebumps, then something is wrong with you. This is me giving that excellent self-help advice right now. ;) You're welcome.

"The repercussions of that long-ago tragedy were still haunting her—quite literally. And now, as a result, she found herself headed back to Silver Lake, based on cryptic messages from her best friend’s ghost."

☝If that doesn't get your mind off a divorce...I don't know what will.

Brandy had disappeared years before, and it tore their group of friends apart. Rain, Allie, A.J., and Jason all went their separate ways, unable to face the trauma of their loss. Now, though, it's time to find the truth, even if that means dealing with the truth of their own lives as well.

For Rain, seeing Jason again means facing their inescapable attraction and the reality that he will likely never forgive her. While mysterious puddles of water appear, doors slam, and the ghost appears again and again, Jason and Rain wade through the intensity of passion and past hurts to find justice for Brandy.

Goodness me. How does someone come up with a plot like this? This isn't normal. It's brilliant. I absolutely adore Rain, her transformation, and her journey to find herself through helping others. Jason? Don't get me started. This swoon boat is chugga-lugging in his direction, my friends.

Let’s be friends!

Enjoyed it, but it could have been better

I understand its was the authors first book. I enjoyed reading it and in some parts it was a page turner for me. the middle of the book seemed to be totally devoted to the raging hormones of Rain and Jason and how they had not advanced since high school in their emotions for each other. I had to force myself to get over this parts. the suspense, when we finally had interaction with Brandy's ghost were underwhelming.
The ending was predictable and also Allie's revelation about Rick. I wish the author has taken more time I make these traumatic scenes more of an OMG moment for the reader. He many times did I need I be told that Rain blushes at the drop of a hat. Does not make her very endearing in my opinion, especially when she is supposed to be a kindergarten teacher as someone who comes up to the challenge of dealing with the paranormal.
I didn't catch errors that pulled me out of the story. I will read another book by this author to see if she improves. As a first book, it kept my interest and I would recommend the author to enhance readers.
Too bland in the paranormal for my taste. I enjoyed Shirley Jackson's psychological stories better.

For a first book, this was fabulous! I really enjoyed the characters, the mystery and the spookiness of the ghost. The writing was easy to read and had just the right amount of description. The romance wasn't overdone and the writer always made certain to keep the spooky mystery at the forefront. The mystery itself had just enough players to keep you guessing as to what happened to her friend, and who possibly did it. I was pleasantly surprised at the end, once I found out what happened to Brandy. It was a nice twist that made perfect sense, and that I actually hadn't even thought of. Great book! I started it yesterday and couldn't stop reading all day today to finish.

Good Ghost Story

I didn't quite know what I was getting into with this paranormal mystery. My concerns were that it might be gory or so filled with evil doings to make it fodder for nightmares. I was happily proved wrong. There was some moderately explicit sex, but otherwise it was a sweet story of friends coming together to deal with a tragedy that changed their lives. It is a story of human frailty and exceptional forgiveness. Well worth the read. Note: I keep typo counts & this book had only 2 typos.

Have this one ready for summer

It'll be a great summer read. Not overly scary, not tedious with exposition, no uncomfortably graphic sex scenes--just an easy, laid back read. We can identify with the characters and the things we believed were important when we were in high school...and finding out differently later on. Enjoyed it!

After reading other reviews I bought this book for my Kindle. I was so disappointed in the writing that after a couple of chapters I simply skipped to the last chapter, and found that I had figured out "who done it" already. Sorry. Will try a different Kathryn Knight to see if others are more what I had hoped for.

Five years ago.

As four friends from high school reunite to try and solve the disappearance of their fifth friend the past comes back to haunt them in numerous ways. A lot of the storyline was the constant repetition of why one couple couldn't be together. The clues to the mystery kept slapping them in the face yet no one seemed to be able to figure it out.
