I have read a lot of good books in my time. What really draws me into a good story is the way the author depicts each of the characters in a way that makes it personal to a reader and then draws you into a story where the characters interact in an intimate way to both enrich the theme - -and make it come alive. This book does that and more. By the time the characters are facing the harrowing ordeal that they are faced with - - and their lives and the fate of the world is in their hands, their part becomes even more important to the story as it slowly unfolds and reaches its climax! Every page keeps you guessing as every detail begins to surface until it suddenly explodes. There are moments in the book where your nerves get a little rattled and some tense moments where all you see is doom up ahead, but like every great author, Michael knows just where to take you and it is left
to the reader how far he or she is willing to go; however, if you are willing to take the leap you will not be disappointed. In fact you are left with awe! Great job Michael. Already ordering the sequel.

Infernal Gates by Michael J Webb is a thrilling Christian end times adventure suspense that will have the reader on the edge of their seat.
Life is so much more than we can see, hear and touch. It is a spiritual battle. “The spiritual realm was more real to her than the one her five senses revealed.” The battle has been raging since the dawn of time. We need to fight it on our knees, calling out to God. The battle is not ours but His.
There is power in the Name of Jesus. At His Name the demons will flee. We need to know that we can call on Jesus at any time.
God has a plan for our lives. Some of us were chosen for such a time as this. No matter how dark life looks, God walks beside us. Life can be horrendous. “Where was God in the camps?” It may seem like God is absent but we cannot rely on our feelings, no matter what they say, God will never leave us. We must be sure to “never give up hope. Even in the darkest places.” Without hope the people perish.
“Fear had driven him for a long time.” Faith and fear cannot exist side by side. We have to make a choice. If we have faith we need not fear.
The novel shows the need to trust others and God. When we trust Him, we know that even in the darkness, His light will shine.
Infernal Gates was a marvellous read. Michael J Webb put God at the centre of the fight against evil. God was not defeated in the past, He is not defeated in the present and He will not be defeated in the future. We always fight from a place of victory. Michael J Webb has a terrific imagination and he has woven a fabulous tale.
I found this powerful quote by Churchill in the novel and will leave you with it:
“We make a living by what we get and a life by what we give.”
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

“There is always a price to pay,” she continued, “for walking in the authority and power of the Lord.” (Tabitha to the group of warriors gathered in her home)

Michael J Webb’s latest book, Infernal Gates, has been the most unusual reading experience I’ve had it quite some time. I found myself alternately mesmerized and frustrated. Let me explain. The premise of the book reflects an almost obsessive fascination with spiritual warfare. The elements of this warfare have been meticulously researched as reflected by the intricate details drawn from a myriad of cultures and belief systems. While I don’t deny the powerful war that wages in the spiritual realm, I don’t believe for a moment that the enemy and his demonic legions have the slightest possibility of coming close to usurping God’s plan for humanity. I suppose it makes for a good fictional plot, but for me, it came dangerously close to crossing the boundaries of spiritual truth, and I'd be highly uncomfortable recommending this book to a non-believer.

That said, the nuggets of spiritual truth embedded within the story were both powerful and challenging for a believer. Many will identify with the struggles faced by both Ethan and Sam as they must face and overcome the tragic life-circumstances brought to bear on their lives. The roles they play in the spiritual battle they are called to face in this story are both classic and epic!

I will have to state plainly that this book requires serious leaps into suspended disbelief! Infernal Gates must be read with a very open mind or you will never make to the final pages. This is a fantastical tale that is heavy on details and long on internal mental rambling. I prefer a little tighter read, but that’s just my personal preference. There will be many who find this story both titillating and very exciting! I feel compelled to give folks a spiritual “head-up” - as it were – because this is a potentially off-putting book to share with non-believers. For those who lack faith, the heavy historical data is almost counteractive to spiritual truth – hence my frustration.

Highly entertaining read! Proceed with caution.

Infernal Gates, by Michael Webb, centers on Ethan Freeman, an ex-Special Forces Ranger, and the spiritual battle in which he, and six others, become involved, a fight to prevent a demon from unleashing an evil force from within an Abyss. The story contains a mixture of Biblical facts, mythology, history, science, archeology, and fiction.

What I liked about this book is that part of it reminded me of the TV show, Lost. The book contains a lot of mystery and conflict, which piqued my interest. Also, the book contains many interesting historical facts and mythological tidbits. For the most part, the author does a good job of organically weaving these into the story.

If I could have changed anything, I would have liked to have seen more use of third person, deep POV and perhaps fewer characters so I could identify better with those characters.

To be sensitive to readers, I want to make several cautions. The word hell is used several times, and there is at least one instance of “Oh, God.” Two characters kiss, and one of them is married, but her husband is on life support/brain dead. A pastor offers someone beer, and priests and others drink wine. Finally, the book contains dark elements such as demons.

I like this quote from author Michael Webb’s Amazon page. It best describes his unique brand of writing. “I have always been fascinated by the intersection of the supernatural, the historical, the scientific, and the Judeo-Christian worldviews…If you are intrigued by such things as traditional and forbidden history, the origins of demons and their influence on mankind throughout the ages, quantum physics, the nature and character of God, and the unseen war in the heavenlies between angelic forces and agents of darkness, you will enjoy reading all of my supernatural thrillers.”

This book might appeal to those who enjoy books that deal with spiritual warfare and TV shows like Stargate and Lost.

*Please note that I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review. However, I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

"Infernal Gates" by Michael Webb gets five stars but I would give it more if I could.

"Infernal Gates"is about Ethan Freeman, an ex-Special Forces Ranger, turned preacher and the spiritual battle in which he, and six others, become involved in a fight to prevent a demon from unleashing an evil force from within an Abyss. The six main characters do not know each ( although some know at least one of the others) but in the end they find they are connected more than just trying to save the world from demons. This story contains Biblical facts, mythology, history, science, archaeology, and fiction. And once again I am amazed that I liked this type of story, maybe it was because of the Biblical facts but I don't like to read anything about demons, The only thing I didn't like about this book was a couple of swear words used in the story.

When I was finished with the story, I was thinking "This would make a great movie" and I am surprised about that because I dislike like watching these type of movies even more than I dislike reading these types of stories. Micheal Webb has a way of grabbing the readers and makes them want to get to the end of the story.

The story starts out that Ethan Freeman is the only survivor of a plane crash and it is thought that he is quilty of planting a bomb because of marriage problems. The one person who believes in him is an female crash investigator.

There are different plots involved but as you read further you will find out that they are interwoven. The characters are believable. They could be your next door neighbor.

This book makes me want to study end time prophecies more as the Evil One is very real.

This is the second book I have read by Michael Webb, but it definitely won't be my last one.

I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review!

As most of my regular readers know, I review books for many of the Christian publishers (Tyndale, Zondervan, B&H, Thomas Nelson, Howard, David C. Cook, Bethany House, Abingdon Press, River North, Minotaur, FaithWords) and I found this new book by Michael J. Webb, which was independently published, to be of the same high quality.

The book begins with several seemingly unrelated stories, each one interesting in itself. I felt the switch from one story to another was perfectly timed so that I didn't forget what was happening in one while reading another. About half-way through the book, the stories begin to come together and we eventually learn how all the stories are related.

I enjoyed the action, the suspense, and the depth of information the author provides. The characters came alive for me and the descriptions were so vivid I could see where the action took place. I was amazed at the level of detail and wondered how one person could know everything that was discussed in the book.

One warning. This is not a book for the squeamish. There is some demonic violence with blood and gore. It, too, is vividly described. I usually don't pick that type of book to read, but I'm glad I read this one and I felt the bloody parts were well done

Webb's novel take readers into the spiritual world of angels and demons and how they might interact with humans. The novel begins with a deadly airplane crash. While all appear to have perished in the crash, one man survived. Ethan was mysteriously saved from death and transported back to his home. He and an agent from NTSB work together to unravel the cause of the crash and soon are facing evil supernatural beings.

The major theme running through this novel is spiritual warfare. Webb explores the concept that the warfare has been going on for millennia. God has gifted certain people to fight the evil forces and it seems the ongoing battle is coming to a climax.

There is a great deal of information included in this novel. There is much about the legends of Native Americans. There is an exploration of the history of the Hmong people and the cause of airplane crashes. There is some information about creationism and evidence for a young earth. Perhaps most interesting of all is a possible explanation for that strange passage in Jude 6 about angels being bound in chains until judgment day.

This is an earlier novel of Webb's. While there is plenty of action, I found the information packed sections did not flow as well as they do in his later novels. Nonetheless, it is an engaging novel and thought provoking for Christian readers.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the author. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I was blown away and couldn't put it down! Ok, I did put it down for a few hours, but WOW! What a movie this would make! Michael J Webb has woven a fantastic web of a read in his latest "Infernal Gates". In my humble opinion, Webb is a Peritti and Dekker combined. Michael Webb has a knack for writing themes pertinent to tomorrows headlines albeit not from the mainstream media, but from reality - the realm outside our space and time dimension. "Infernal Gates" is not just a thriller but addresses some serious real-life issues pertinent to the lives of many readers. Michael delivers precious gems of wisdom tucked inside for the mining to help those of us going through tough times. Great one liners like, "his focus had been on the Book of the LORD, not the LORD of the Book" hit me between the eyes of my heart. Also the author gives chunks of meat to chew on like, "The secret to walking in both authority and power was entering into GOD's rest. And the secret to entering GOD's rest was worship. Authority without power never truly overcomes the tribulation common to all who live in the world, it only manages it. Power, wielded out of corrupted authority apart from that given by GOD, results in destruction, and ultimately, death." WOW, meditate on that for a few days!
I don't think you'll be disappointed!

This is a book about spiritual warfare, and as such, it is heavily laden with supernatural occurrences and heavy violence. If the reader approaches this book as a fictional, fantasy read, they will likely find it very intriguing. However, if it is approached as a Christian book on the end days, they will likely be disappointed as it is not in exact accordance with Biblical truths and involves several cultural beliefs as well as myths and legends.

Michael J. Webb is a very good writer, so good in fact that at times the reader will feel as though they are watching the scenes unfold rather than reading them. The first few chapters are a bit of a struggle as the author presents several different storylines that seem unconnected. Patience will pay off as he does bring all those stories together very well. However, the reader will be kept guessing until the end, which is a good thing in my opinion. Other than the violence, this is a clean book free of curse words and sex scenes.

If you are willing to open your mind and allow your imagination to be led to places where reality is suspended, knowing it is a fictional story, I recommend this book for you. If you are looking for real answers to Biblical mysteries, I point you in other directions.

The book held my interest throughout with its layers of characters and backstory. The author has exceptional Bible knowledge and an apparent impressive depth of knowledge of ancient civilizations in the Middle East. Unfortunately there were a few typos which I find very distracting. Nevertheless, the fantasy allowed for a significant thread of spirituality that I really enjoyed.

Michael Webb states that readers will love his novels if they enjoy a plot with a "... Christian world view, with lots of action and adventure, fascinating and flawed characters, with more than a dash of the supernatural...".

Infernal Gates lives up to this statement. This is one well researched and well-constructed story.

The first half of the plot centres on Ethan Freeman, an ex-Special Forces Ranger, who finds himself the sole survivor of a plane crash but instead of waking up amoungst the plane wreckage, finds himself at home and has no idea how he got there. In order to work out what had happened, he shows up at the crash site and makes himself known to the crash scene investigators. What follows is the crash scene investigators trying to pin the crash on him, proving he has the motive, means and opportunity.

Interspersed amoungst this is the subplots that introduce their own various characters resulting in the intersection of, as Webb says in his Amazon Bio, “…traditional and forbidden history, the origins of demons and their influence on mankind throughout the ages, quantum physics, and the unseen war in the heavenlies between angelic forces and agents of darkness…..”. This lays the foundation for one fast paced, multi layered but all connected plot where you wonder how all the pieces and characters could fit together.

Webb is a master at depicting the spiritual environment based on the Bible and what is known of angelology/demonology in history and culture. His demons are real to the reader, his angels are also real, but so is the character and personality of the God that Christians know and love. There is power in all this that strengthens your faith about who God is, the power of His victory over sin and death, His love, mercy, forgiveness, and compassion for his creation of man, but also of his judgement and condemnation for those of mankind and fallen angels for their sin and rebellion.

The second of the novel is involved in all of what I have just described. All the subplots converge to expose the spiritual battle involved with Ethan, Sam, and others chosen by God to stop a demon from unleashing those fallen angels who are imprisoned in the Abyss as described in Jude and Revelation so they can force mankind to worship them as gods just as they had before their imprisonment. This tracks back to the Anunnaki, related to the Nephilim described in Genesis 6: 1-4.

Webb impressed me with his depiction of the power of prayer, namely that of intercessory/supplication prayer, and worship warfare. I have not had the former in such detail before or as powerfully portrayed and the latter is the first introduction for me of this concept. If only the former could be more of a practice and discipline in all Christians lives and the latter the same but as a corporate practice of the body of Christ: the Church!! We would really see the mighty hand of the Spirit move in a way not described since Pentecost described in Acts!

This second half of the novel is where the plot, really comes into its own. Everything really revs up and as the saying goes, “the plot thickens!” leading to an even faster paced and wild ride than the first half and a very satisfying ending.

Webb succeeds again, as he did in his previous book, The Oldest Enemy, where he entertains as well as educates in spiritual warfare, the nature of our enemy, satan and his many demons while giving opportunity for us to strengthen our faith and fine tune the weapons of our warfare, prayer, God’s authority over sin and death and recognising that the battle really does belong to the Lord.

Highly recommended.

“Is there one word to describe this experience of reading Michael J. Webb’s novel Infernal Gates?” I asked myself upon closing the last page of the epilogue. Undoubtedly, numerous expressive words in the dictionary including a few expletives could define this absorbing story, but they just can’t be narrowed down to one. Being a first time reader of Mr. Webb’s writing, I was riveted down to my painted toenails after the first page! Where is this man going with this story?

Well reader friends, Michael J Webb was going many places in different directions, up and down and all around. At times, I had trouble keeping up with the pace and read many paragraphs and pages over again – not that it was confusing – only my 75 year old mind wasn’t grasping the mystery of the moment…and that’s exactly what this story is, an exhilarating mind blowing mystery of distinct possibilities, even though they might seem unrealistic to the unbeliever or the not so caught up in Christian beliefs personality.

In all fairness, I need to allow each prospective reader to learn of these mysteries on their own, so their reading experience of Infernal Gates will be as unique as the author deems. I have read many of the prior reviews which spoke about some of the events, relationships and storylines involved, and I will refrain from being repetitive. Personally, I have no objection about any minor cursing or one romantic kiss in this story – as in real life, we imperfect humans fail ourselves daily to be free of sin, we need to accept the forgiveness Jesus freely offers, and go beyond bias to accept that the real issue in this story in the spiritual warfare going on about us constantly because we are not of this world – but we must live in this world until Christ returns. During my personal time of being within the covers of Infernal Gates, I have been going through some unknown gates within my own family and would rather share about this book in a different way.

Mr. Webb’s process of building his story bit by bit, layer upon layer, constructing all the elements to hold the reader solidly within the perimeters of possible and impossible; being part of each astonishing miracle and stunning shock while being let in on a secret from time to time was impeccably done with sophistication and excellence. A writer that stands tall among other such writers as Frank Peretti, my favorite among spiritual writers of supernatural thrillers.

The obvious deep research instilled by Michael J Webb while composing about subjects and facts I had never imagined existed was entertaining and vastly enjoyable. I was fascinated with the unusual historical specifics of the diverse cultures brought to light through Mr. Webb’s thoughtful inclusion, much different from previous techniques personally perused. Even if you are not a fan of the supernatural, this is one book that WILL keep you lingering on this area of interest for a lasting time.

There is one interesting observation that surprised me while preparing to write this review. The majority of reviews I have written are on Christian novels by women authors. It is an honor to be requested to write a review for this gentleman writer. A strong writer of the Word, he is a dedicated committed Christian and I thank God for an author such as Michael J Webb. Here is my “high five” Mr. Webb!

I love a book that shocks me. I tend to go into a book with a pre-conceived idea of what it will be about (bad habit I can't break). I love when a book takes a totally different direction or is even better than I imagined. Infernal Gates did that to me. I went into this book expecting something good, with that synopsis I figured it would be a given. Instead I got amazing. Infernal Gates is an absolutely amazing book, one that I would expect on a best seller list.

Starting with a very climactic first chapter this book just keeps growing. There are many different story-lines and so much danger and adventure happening throughout the book. I didn't find myself struggling with how it would all tie together, I just trusted the author to make it work, and Michael J. Webb definitely made it work.

The characters in this book were amazing. With so many story-lines things can become a bit lost, but all of the characters had so much depth. They were well written and took me through the story so easily that I could imagine it all being real. I loved the intermingling of their lives. It was like it's own great mystery trying to figure out how they would all come together.

Another amazing thing about this book was how much culture, religion, and theory are in it. It wasn't an in your face situation for me. I loved the looks at all the different lives these characters led and how they had come to their current beliefs. I loved the way the Bible was worked into the book and the way Webb helped scriptures unfold.

I will suggest this book to everyone. I think that despite your religious beliefs this is a book that can appeal to any reader. It is fast, exciting, and detailed. I was engaged as a reader, and excited as a reviewer to be able to share this book. I plan to read more of Webb's books, and I cannot wait for the sequel to Infernal Gates.

I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Wow! This is one of those books that stays with you, I was thinking about it well after finishing it. Infernal Gates is about a man who somehow survives a plane crash. The author introduces us to other characters from various areas in the world. They all seem to have one thing in common, their belief in God. But you really don’t know what else makes them part of the story. As the story unfolds, you learn about their connections to each other.
This is a story steeped in religion. It does not focus on one particular one but rather the spiritual nature of the characters’ beliefs. It is not preachy but does invoke a desire to be more spiritual. It really made me think about prayer in particular.
The action keeps the pace moving. This book never slowed down. I was whisked to diverse parts of the world, there was great fighting scenes, and amazing life or death confrontations. I loved it!
The characters were of various ages and cultures. The author told the story while also teaching me about these different cultures. I love learning about different cultures and this story was chock full. It was also full of history. Loved all the information about ancient times, imagining Iraq how it once was…the author really brought all that to life with his vivid descriptions.
This story all comes together and you learn how the characters are connected in an epic good vs evil battle that has you furiously turning the pages. It doesn’t have a cliffhanger but I could see another book with these characters as I don’t really think their stories are finished. And that is what I am hoping!

This was totally my kind of book. Infernal Gates had all my favorite things: mythology, theology, romance, demons and magic. I am new to Michael’s writing but I am definitely keeping him on my radar now. What I loved about this book is that it combined all sorts of ideals, religions and ways of thinking. Infernal Gates takes you on a supernatural ride of present and past. It switches back and forth from past to present seamlessly and it’s extremely easy to follow. It’s definitely a cerebral read, if you don’t know much about different religions and time periods you will be ten times more knowledgeable when you are done reading. The Book of Revelation has received a lot of press lately, more and more religious people keep saying we are at the End of Days. For Ethan Freeman it is. He’s running from humanity and the supernatural. He has cult members and demons tracking him down and/or trying to frame him for murder. It’s a crazy ride and I am really glad I hopped on. One of the better books I have read in awhile. If you like books by Steven White and Dan Brown you will LOVE this book. 5 stars from me.

Having read several of Michael J. Webb’s books I knew this one would be an exciting read, but that turned out to be an understatement. Infernal Gates by Michael J. Webb will leave you exhausted from excitement. It is full of action and adventure.

With every new turn and twist the author builds on the intrigue which demands your continued reading. The storyline is well developed yet it is easy to follow. I found it hard to put this book down once I started it.

This is the type of story that you can put yourself into as an unseen character and really get involved as the story progresses. I love when this happens as it makes the story come alive to me as a reader.

I really like the way Michael J. Webb developed each of the characters in the story. They were both real and personal. It was easy to develop an attachment to them.

I really liked Infernal Gates by Michael J. Webb and I highly recommend this book to all readers.

I took a break from the romance novels and read Infernal Gates. It isn't your typical mystery/thriller type book, it does contains religious views. It had great action that kept me moving forward in the book.

Ethan's story had me intrigued from the start. I couldn't wait to figure out what had happened to him. A good majority of the first part of the book is trying to figure out what had happened in the crash. Then later when he learns things about himself that he didn't know before.

It did seem a bit confusing at first with all the multiple stories going on in the beginning. I was totally lost in how everything was going to come together. Trust me, it does all come together and make sense later in the book.

Webb has put a lot of attention to detail in this book. Sometimes I thought it was a bit too much detail but was important to the story. We did need to know the history of how things came to be the way they were.

This was a great book! It has just the right amount of mystery, intrigue, and romance to make you want to keep reading. I know this may sound kind of weird, but I try to stay away from guy authors. Yes I know that's a horrid thing to say. I discriminate against male authors simply because they don't normally appeal to me as we think differently. Not so with this book. He is awesome! Love the supernatural and evil in the book. I'm not normally big on this type of book but this one hits home. Great read. Recommend whole-heartedly. Great Christian fiction book.

I read The Oldest Enemy by this author and I liked it a lot so I was waiting with anticipation this new novel.
Infernal Gates is a thriller with supernatural elements, a good against evil battle around the world, a struggle of the characters to find unsuspected strengths inside themselves to defeat the earthly and other-worldly forces they will have to face.
What I liked most was the great plot (complex at times but in a positive way) combined with a fast paced prose.
One last warning, this is Christian religious fiction (characters typical of the Jewish/Christian tradition, citations of the Scriptures, etc.) I like it, but if you do not, this might not be your cup of tea.

This was a story that made me wonder until the very end. Why was Ethan the only survivor? What killed every one else? Will his past training come into play? I was happy with how the author answered my questions. The thoughts on God, Mythology, and demons. I liked that the author used past and present situations to help the reader understand the book better. I thought that the religious characters were written to be against the stereo types, but they seemed too far out there for me. I did like that Ethan learned a lot about himself at the end. I am giving this book a 3/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.

Michael Jack Webb caught me hook, line, and sinker with this thriller! From the first paragraph, I was captivated!

He's an excellent writer in my humble opinion. I've read some of his other books and again I couldn't put them down!

Oldest Enemy gave me a chilling thought that kept haunting me now and then as I read this book.... Some of this stuff could be torn off next year's headlines....

You can't go wrong. See for yourself, read the sample and you'll be snagged... hook, line, and sinker!

“Michael J. Webb is a master at writing artfully skilled prose woven into a high-concept plotline. Fantasy readers will no doubt enjoy the adventurous tale in INFERNAL GATES. The captivating title and cover provide initial enticement, drawing readers to open the book. Once started, readers will turn from Page One to page after page, compelled into the characters’ worlds, living it with them to the last page. A work of fiction not to be missed.” Award Winning Suspense Author, Dianna T. Benson

This thriller is intense with multiple layers and plots. There are a quite a few different characters and the story is seen through many points of view -so many it took me a while to grasp who was who and which land and time we were in with each change. I think this was the first Christian supernatural thriller I've read (will I read more? I'm not so sure). A great story and well written.

Wow! Just finished reading Michael J. Webb's "Infernal Gates" and loved the way he wove seemingly unrelated people into a common destiny. Fascinating characters and supernatural elements, along with great writing, made for a five-star book in my opinion.
