The remarkable true story of a young man's initiation in the Himalayas into a life-affirming path that is several centuries old
David Manners was trekking in Nepal when he stumbled upon the mountain home of a jhankri, or Nepalese shaman. The jhankri accepted David as his pupil, and so began the next stage of David's extraordinary journey, in which he embarked upon an adventure that was more challenging and, ultimately, life-affirming than anything he could have imagined. Here David shares the wisdom and insights he learned from those transformational days in the Himalayas. These include practical guidance on how to live a full and fearless life, how to find happiness, and how to live in ways that nurture both ourselves and others. As David reveals, the life lessons he learned among the mountains of the Himalayas could benefit us all today.
A most interesting book! The guiding principles of the Tradition are ones we should all pay attention to and are worthy no matter where you are spiritually or religiously (or not!) I had to keep reminding myself that this is a true story of the author's journey because it is so remarkable - I am so happy that the author has found peace.
This book blends of personal discovery and experience, with facts and explanations of Buddhism and Hinduism. I enjoyed it, and as a person from a Christian upbringing was able to learn and understand these religions slightly better than previously. but my own trip to Nepal has been cancelled, in part due to the protests there.
Starting was good, great conversation with Kushal and other events but close the end it converted the gay event. I had lots of expectation from this book but its could not match.
Not very fluently written. The best part of the book is the 7 pages of glossary, that sums up the book and what you need to know about Shaiva Tantra Yoga, Purusharthra, Yamas and Niyamas.
I thin this book found me at the time when she needed. I had her about for 6 months in my mind bu took just a few days ago. I thought that it will be about the journey in Himalaya mountains but it's more about soul journey and learning the Tradition of people who lives in those mountains. I will read this book again. came up with some really great new ideas. Never heard about such Tradition before. Also, it's full of historical and interesting facts about religion.
An amazing tale of experiences which seem unimaginable to me, being an English and untravelled girl. A lot of the teaching David received doesn't seem incongruous with my Christian faith but well worth adopting in order to both give and get the most out of life. A thought-provoking book. Thank you David.
