Title: Pieces For You
Series: Yes. For You #2
Author: Genna Rulon
Release Date: 17th December, 2013
Rating: 4.5 stars
Cliffhanger: No.
HEA:

"I love you in a way that will never ebb or fail—it will thrive and deepen every day. I don’t want to experience life without you ever again; I don’t want to live without those pieces of me.”

Genna Rulon for the second time this year completely bewitched me. Her phenomenal way of storytelling and gut wrenching plot made me fall in love with her and her characters once again. While in the first book of For You series, I was attracted to her easy, light and snarky style of writing, in sequel Rulon showed me her more subtle, sensual and heartbreaking side.

This time, while still, very funny and nice, Sam and Griffin’s story is exceptionally touching. It’s more complex and tear jerking. As much as I loved Hunter and Everleigh crazy antics, passionate love and thrilling whereabouts, Only For You was certainly more ‘easygoing’ and lighter read. In sequel though, Rulon extremely well pictured Sam and the hard time she went through. I can’t count how many times my heart broke for her. The constant ache in my chest only highlighted how well the author done her job.

The story starts of when Samantha Whitney is recovering physically and mentally from what happened on campus on that terrible night. After the attack and betrayal of her ex-boyfriend, Sam is in very bad shape. Her process of healing is slow and painful. But no matter what happened, Sam knows she has to live and fight, and that’s what she’s doing. She’s learning how to breathe again.

Griffin is waiting for Sam. He loves her very much and now that there is no other man on the picture, he will finally make his move. He wants to show Sam she can trust him and… someday maybe even love him.

Sam’s one of the strongest, toughest, bravest heroines, I’ve read about in ages. Her strength and faith was inspiring. Pairing her of with Griffin was fantastic idea. I loved them together. They were completely good for each other and I adored how amazingly well they worked. Of course, being together wasn’t very easy for them. Especially for Sam, who had to learn how to trust a man again, as well as give herself a chance in love.

I know for a fact, that I will be a very big fan of Genna Rulon. Her writing is definitely something I will be looking forward to. She hooked me with her stories and I’ll be the slave of For You Series till the end.

Almost instantly upon finishing Pieces For You, I craved more, and I feel this will be the case every time I reach The End in her novel.

I highly recommend picking up, Rulon’s contemporary novels, not only because they are amazing romance stories, but also, because she has the ‘spark’. Spark that makes her create spectacular, touching and incredibly sensual books that I am the number one fan.

5++ Griffsam stars!!!

description

DISCLAIMER!!: This is Sam and Griffin's story!! Those of you who haven't read the first book please do before this book releases since Sam's story starts really from there!!

”You are everything to me. All those pieces of me amount to nothing on their own—you are my whole. I was designed to be pieces for you.”

description

I cannot express in words the magnitude of which I loved and appreciated Pieces For You. Genna Rulon, I’ve come to think of you as a friend, and all bias aside I think that you’ve outdone yourself with Sam and Griffin’s story!!

description

I mean, I cherished every freaking minute of it. I learned the significance of family, friendship, and unconditional love ; AS WELL AS, the importance to always keep the faith and fight for what you believe in.

description

Samantha Whitney, was a heroine to be reckoned with. She’s funny, sarcastic, and super witty;

“Oh, I’ve also been petting the kitty every night. Not much success yet, but I’m getting closer to making her purr, I can feel it…pun intended.”

But most of all, she’s one of the strongest characters I’ve ever had the chance of reading about in a long time. Her struggle to regain a “normal life” after she had been savagely beaten almost to death and raped displays her relentless perseverance and strength that many victims face on a day to day basis.

description

Griffin Everden, ah I heart this guy!! Griffin is just a guy totally devoted to Samantha. He lives and breathes for her. If you remember from Only For You, Griffin was often in the background as the bartender that Evelyn would confide in. He’s always held a torch for Samantha and now he has a chance he's taking it!

Don’t worry readers, he’s no stalker or some sappy lovesick guy that doesn’t have a life outside of Samantha. Besides being bartender, he is also THE OWNER of the bar he works at, AND is also in school getting his psychology license. This latter tidbit comes in handy at one point in the book (even though he later gets reprimanded for it *pouts*)!! Serves that guy right!!

Gosh, Ms. Rulon … I really applaud you on this one. Your books are honest to God becoming one of my favorite book series thus far. It has a solid plot line; loveable and desirable characters you can’t help but wish to meet in real life and befriend; and, a plausible and reasonable paced narrative.

description

Genna does an excellent job in portraying the after effects of the victims’ mental and emotional state in Samantha. I appreciated how she took baby steps in Samantha’s growth toward recovery and developing/rebuilding her relationships with everyone in her life.

Samantha’s rapport with each of the characters is to be envied and relished. Through thick and thin, her camaraderie with Evelyn, Hunter, and Griffin never failed. They are her family and support system.

Evelyn, man, there's no denying that she and Sam practically act and behave like real life sisters!! Their banters and trysts were so fricken hilarious at times that I almost choked on my mouthwash while brushing my teeth and was thought I was mentally insane from the amount of chuckling I did.

I mean, come on, arguing and almost coming to blows over Malibu Barbie, comparing who’s boyfriend is hotter at work, and so on!! It just made me laugh.

Barbie Fight During Breakfast:

description

(Evelyn)- “Are you freaking kidding me? You stole my Barbie?
(Sam)- “Sorry, but you really didn’t appreciate her. You didn’t even notice when I made the swap—what kind of mother are you?”
...a fight then almost breaks out but Hunter placates Evelyn. He then offers Sam an omelet since he is cooking but...
(Evelyn)- “You are not preparing breakfast for that…that…Barbie snatcher. Come on, Mr. FBI Man,can’t you drag her down to headquarters and charge her with something? She may have even departed the country with Barbie at some point. That’s a federal offense—do something useful with that badge of yours.”

Who Has The Hotter Boyfriend Meg?

description

“Oh, Hunter’s hot, too. I guess I just prefer blondes,” Meg consoled.
(Evelyn)- “Clearly you haven’t had enough time to appreciate the wonder that is Hunter. He’s supposed to stop by later. After you study him more closely you’ll see your mistake. Trust me, there is no one hotter than my man.”
(Sam)- I leaned into Meg’s side and stage whispered, “Just tell her you made a mistake and Hunter is your favorite. She won’t let it rest until you agree with her…believe me.”

Evelyn, may not be blood to Sam and they may even bicker and fight like cats and dogs but at the end of the day she is always “ready to head into battle” for Sam. Anytime, anyplace. That’s a TRUE FRIENDSHIP right there.

As for Hunter, well Hunter is just Hunter. He’s Evelyn’s other half (whom Sam has dubbed “Huntleigh”) and our FBI agent dude who deeply cares for Samantha and would do anything for Evelyn which is to keep Samantha safe.

And lastly, Griffin.

(Griffin)- “Did you just…lick me?” he asked, sounding both shocked and amused.
(Sam)- “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You licked me. I felt it,” he accused, but I noticed he wasn’t complaining. –(Griffin)
(Sam)- “Your imagination is running wild because of all the workout endorphins.”
(Griffin)- “It wasn’t a complaint. In fact, you’re welcome to have another taste.”
“Fine…I licked. –(Sam)

description

AGAIN , I must gush about you!! Griffin, and his relentless quest to win over the girl of his dreams!! *gushes*

description

Thank god though, the courtship wasn’t as difficult as I would have thought I could be as right after Sam comes back from the treatment facility, she already begins to notice Griffin in a completely different light! *breaks into happy dance!*

description

HOWEVER... As nice as it was to see Samantha start coming around and starting to acknowledge her feelings for Griffin, I really appreciated how Griffin rebuffed her advances.

Reason being: He was being considerate of her weakened and fragile-like state. He wanted to build a solid relationship with Sam and for her to be sure of him before they jumped into anything more. How commendable is that?!

Of course though, Griffin does have his flaws. He can't be all that perfect. He tends to have serious overbearing tendencies that can range from being: overprotective, jealous, and full on guns a blazing when it comes to all that is Samantha!! I get that his intentions are noble but when all is said and done it can also get him into a heap of trouble if he's not careful.

description

As for Samantha, I didn't see any actual flaws from her character. I only saw the good. She possesses a very uncanny sense of humor of which often either intrigues or embarrasses Griffin since she tends to prod and examine him in her mind (while unconsciously speaking out loud without even realizing it till after) like some sort of interesting lab specimen! lol.

description

“My breath caught and I was forced to grip the doorframe to prevent melting to a puddle on the floor or climbing this tree of man-flesh like the primate I had been reduced to.”

I rubbed my head against his chest like a cat soliciting attention and marking her territory. I couldn’t get close enough. I wished humans had a pouch like kangaroos…I would happily climb in and happily let Griff tote me around everywhere.”

I could go on and on about how much I LOVED this story but I feel that you guys should read it for yourselves.

Pieces For You is about picking up the pieces and reclaiming yourself. Samantha may have been broken when we first see her in the beginning BUT it is how she is able to seek justice and find redemption for herself and others to turn over a new leaf and make a new life themselves.

In a way, you can look at Sam as the phoenix on the bottom right of the cover:

description

"The phoenix hope, can wing her way through the desert skies, and still defying fortune's spite; revive from ashes and rise." – Cervantes, Miguel De

Which infers that all hope is never lost. For Samantha's case, she will rise up...she will persevere.

A TRULY OUTSTANDING BOOK! I was shocked (especially at one part of the book!! OMIGAH!!), I was awed, and I was literally jamming the sensor on my e-reader to jump onto the next page of the story! lol

description

I’m hoping that the next book will be on Sam and Ev’s barista friend and co-worker, Meg. She’s a big mystery to me and is implied to me to have a dark past. Hmm.

Anyway, Meg deserves a bite from the love bug as well so please!! Pretty please write a book about her next if can!! *begs*

“It’s not just a piece of me that fits you. We are both pieces, neither complete without the other. And I’m not the glue …we are like epoxy—both components necessary for adhesion. Together our bond is strong, flexible, waterproof, and resistant to heat, cold, and external exposure.”

**ARC graciously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review**

Pieces for You is the second installment in Genna Rulon’s For You series and focuses on Sam Whitney and Griffin Evenson after the events of book one, Only For You. Pieces for You could be read as a standalone but I would not recommend doing so as you would miss important details of the series. I loved OFY and had been looking forward to Sam’s story since I finished book one and her story completely exceeded my expectations. This debut series from Genna Rulon will have you laughing, crying, hurting, and rejoicing. Ms. Rulon’s writing is witty, smart, and addicting; her characters are much of the same as well as completely engaging. You will feel for Sam in a big way and you will experience her emotions just as she’s experiencing them. There are also a few POV changes in which we hear from Griffin. This book is heavier than book one as the plot is one of redemption and healing after Sam has been through extreme darkness and agony in her life. I read through this book fairly quickly because I became so invested in the events transpiring in Sam’s life.

Samantha Carson (because I refuse to call her Whitney, you’ll understand why when you read) has literally been through hell and survived. She is one of the strongest female characters I have had the pleasure of reading. Her story is truly inspiring. In Only for You, Sam is a spitfire and full of life then we see that zest completely stripped from her against her will. As Pieces for You begins we experience the after effects of Sam’s tragedy and see her start as a hollow shell working towards becoming whole. Sam is witty, sarcastic, funny, smart, and beautiful. Her healing process is just that, a process, and the way she works through it will endear and enlighten you. Sam coping with not only what happened to her but also coping with healing and moving on is major. Sam is unpredictable she can scare and surprise you in one scene. A major theme of the book that I found really important is that of family. The author shows us the meaning of “you can’t pick your family”. Sam doesn’t get support from her relatives but she gets unconditional support and love from her best friends. Sam, Ev, Hunter, and Griffin show us the true meaning of family and the power those close to us can have in aiding our emotional healing. Their camaraderie is unrivaled. Sam finds strength through them, especially Griffin, and she’s fiercely protective of and loyal to those bonds.

Sam’s protector and love is Griffin. He’s a central character in the story but I feel like he still isn’t as central as Sam. This is her story. But Griffin facilitates her healing in so many ways. He cherishes her, protects her, and provides exactly what she needs. Griffin wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to Sam and I think it’s beautiful. He aided in her healing so much by cherishing and understanding her. The book gets a bit psychological when its Griffin’s POV and shows us that he will stop at nothing to protect her and preserve their relationship. The depth of his commitment is as inspiring as Sam’s healing. You will fall in love with Griffin.

If you loved Everleigh and Hunter they’re back in PFY. Their story continues to move forward and we get a glimpse of their lives together. However, the support they both show Sam and what they provide for her will make you fall in love with those two all over again. The re-introduction of Meg is great too. We learn a little more about her and the author intrigues us just enough to be excited to hear her story in book three. And Sam’s therapist, Thia, was my favorite addition. She was awesome and instrumental in Sam’s recovery. Pieces for You is much different than Only for You. The subject matter is definitely dark but the author so beautifully orchestrates light into the story that it becomes full of hope, redemption, and salvation. It’s an inspiring story and I’m grateful to have read it.

I am still blown away by this book. I enjoyed the first in the series, but I absolutely adored this one. I was definitely nervous upon starting it, as I knew this was Sam’s book and Sam underwent some serious trauma in the last book. This book focuses on her healing from her ordeal and learning how to cope with life after. I loved Sam’s spunk and fun-loving, sarcastic attitude in the last book. She is definitely the more adventurous one between her and her best friend Everleigh and her enthusiasm is contagious. However, everything has now changed for Sam. Her road to recovery will not be an easy one, but thankfully she has such an amazing support system in her best friend Everleigh and her best friend’s boyfriend Hunter. These two love her dearly and are the family she never had with her own parents. Helping Sam is an adjustment for them, as they also must learn how to best help Sam move past what happened.

I liked Hunter and Ev from the first book, but I think I fell in love with them in this one. They are really meant for one another and I love seeing them devoted to each other. Their PDA is even adorable! I liked Hunter in the first book, but I mentioned I had a hard time falling for him, as he was forced to keep himself at a distance. I love how protective he is of both Ev and Sam and how affectionate and caring he is with both of them. He knows Sam is essentially Ev’s sister and he really swoops in as a big brother figure to her. And Huntleigh? OMG- I loved how Sam referred to them as that. It never ceased to make me giggle everytime she said it.

Which brings me to Griffin. Oh, boy. I would give a kidney to be with a man like him. Seriously. We meet him briefly in Only For You, and we can see his attraction to Sam, but nothing comes of it, as she starts dating a guy named Robbie. Griffin ends up being a good friend to Ev and then later Hunter and now the three are inseparable. They even have Thursday night dinners together, which I thought was adorable. The entire time Sam was away, Griffin worried over her and hated not being able to be there for her. He is just a good man through and through and my heart would NOT stop fluttering the whole damn book! I also really like that Rulon included a few chapters in his POV too. Once Sam returns, Griffin really becomes her rock and another source of strength in her life. She has a lot to overcome and Sam is still a stubborn girl- she doesn’t want to completely depend on anyone and is determined to be able to do things for herself. Watching her repair and rebuild is incredible and I love that she refuses to let what happened dictate her life. She refuses to hide away and let others intimidate her- this is where we see her start to piece herself back together. While she will never be the same, she learns how to forge Old Sam with New Sam and find a balance between the two.

Griffin and Sam’s relationship is by far one of my all time favorites. He is exactly what she needs and it is with his guidance, patience, and love that she finds motivation to do what she needs to. He is determined to earn her trust and not take their relationship too fast too soon. These two definitely undergo their share of obstacles, and there were a few chapters where I felt my heart had been sliced to ribbons. Rulon brought the perfect amount of steam and I was completely satisfied with their physical and emotional relationship.

Sam’s parents are definitely a piece of work. Wealthy, arrogant, and only concerned about their name- they are the opposite of loving, nurturing parents. I absolutely hated them and how they blatantly disregarded their daughter and her needs. This is another reason why the bond between Hunter, Ev, Griffin, and Sam is so incredible and heartwarming. I love watching the four interact and spend time together.

Overall, this book had everything I could ever want- characters I was invested in and cared for, great character development and growth, incredible romance, as well as the underlying mystery surrounding threats Sam has been receiving due to her refusal to bury the truth of what happened. The pacing was perfect and I didn’t feel the dialogue was as descriptive or formal as it was in the last book.

We are also introduced to another side character, Meg- who works with Ev and Sam at the coffee shop, and I am hoping book three is about her! We are given a bit of insight into Meg’s home life and a quick allusion to her past and this girl needs her a HEA! She is beautiful, sweet, and incredibly brave and I love that all of Rulon’s female MC’s are like that.

I would like to start off this review by disclosing that I AM BIASED! If you read this book you will find a lovely acknowledgement at the end from Genna to yours truly all about how rad I am. After Genna reached out to me months ago to read and review Book # 1 Only For You, we became friends and I worked very closely with her during the writing of Pieces For You lending my super critical eye (might as well put it to go use and I am sure my husband has appreciated the break). Biased or not, I am going to review this book because it is awesomesauce and I want to tell you about it.

Pieces For You picks up where Only For You left off continuing the story through Ev’s best friend’s eyes. Sam was shattered in Book #1 and is now struggling to find her way back to herself. She is scared, untrusting, and a shell of the fun loving girl she once was but she is strong and determined. She has known Griffin for a while but has never really seen him until now. Suddenly, the guy she previously knew as the bartender from The Stop becomes the nurturing man that she can begin to heal with and depend on. Unfortunately, healing does not come easy and with threats still looming the pair have to navigate the muddy waters together.

How would I sum this book up? Swoon, heart clenching FEELS!

In the last book, Ev and Hunter wormed their way into my heart with their wit and smarts. Their sexual tension and love/hate relationship was entertaining and kept me turning the page.

Pieces for You is darker.

In this book, Sam wins me over with her humor and strength. Life keeps beating her down but she keeps standing back up and I admired her tenacity. The way she approaches all of the relationships in this book, the positive ones with Ev and Hunter, the challenging ones with Thea the therapist, and the downright disgusting ones with her attacker and even her own parents, show honesty and strength and made me root for her from the very first page.

Then we have Griffin who is as close to perfect as perfect comes. He is sex on a stick and Genna did an amazing job making me drool over this man god! But more than just a gorgeous body and pretty face, he is amazingly insightful, caring, and protective. And most importantly, he is patient and will do anything and be anything that Sam needs to help her heal. I want to clutch my heart and tear up just thinking about this relationship!

The suspense and drama from Book#1 continues and it's full of Oh Fuck! Moments that keep you on the edge of your seat. You know, those moments where you are basically just skimming the pages, trying to figure out what is going to happen next because YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW!?

Contrast that with the heartfelt scenes that are beautifully written and so full of emotion that you feel like your heart was just ripped out and you want to cry and reflect and maybe cry some more….

Yeah, you should read this book.

This continues to be one of my favorite series and I am not just saying that because of my involvement. From the first (very rough) draft that I read, I was extremely impressed by where Genna decided to go with this story. I had no idea what she had planned and I think she did an amazing job writing this sequel. I cannot wait until I can get my hands on Book #3 – Genna, you better start sending me chapters ASAP!

Pieces For You was such an emotional book for me to read. Samantha's story and everything she went through while recovering from something so awful was amazing. I love a strong heroine and Genna Rulon really knows how to write them. I really can't say enough about how much I loved this book! I did not want it to end. Even through the seriousness of the issues Sam was dealing with, there was still a lot of funny dialog in this book that I really enjoyed. Griffin is the perfect book boyfriend. I love that there was still a lot of Hunter and Everleigh in this book as well - they are my favorite book couple! Looking forward to Megs story!

I also wanted to say that

Where can I find a Griffin or where can I send my husband to be like Griffin? Griffin is the perfect male and at times he seemed too perfect, but I'm definitely not complaining!

Any who, the story was good and mysterious, but because I'm a genius I figured out what was going on before it was revealed!

Up next, Meg's story!

I received a copy of this story for an honest review for Amber's Reading Room.

Betrayed by the man she loved and violated by a monster in Only For You, Samantha “Sam” Whitney was left shattered and on the brink of death. Pieces For You tells her story of healing and finding real love. Real love not just from a man promising a future she thought she lost, but love for herself. Both beautiful and moving while being funny and sexy, Pieces For You hooked me quick and I was happy that it wouldn't let go.

The story picks up with Sam journaling her recovery in a special treatment center for rape victims and author Genna Rulon pulls no punches with the rocky road Sam must navigate. From her initial silence and denial, to her nightmares and self-doubt, it is all painted so vividly I hurt for Sam. But each pain came with a spark of light and as Sam rises from the ashes of her attack I found myself smiling for her. Old Sam may be gone, but new Sam has plenty of fight.

“That’s right bitches… I can do this. You don’t control me – I’m in charge here. I snuggled under my comforter and identified the unfamiliar feeling bubbling within me – hope.”

Sam doesn't struggle alone, she’s got the love and support of her best friend Everleigh and Everleigh’s FBI agent boyfriend Hunter (the heroine and hero from Only for You). What she doesn't expect is the undying support of sweet and soulful Griffin. Grad student/bartender Griffin has secretly loved Sam from afar for years. Her attack spurred him into stepping up and being whatever Sam needs. Gym partner, personal security, shoulder to cry on, comic relief, punching bag – anything Sam needs Griffin will be.

“He didn’t run in the face of the ugliness I held inside me. He didn’t belittle my anger or pain. He just held me and offered a safe place to let it out and a soft place to land when I was spent. For that alone he would always hold a special place in my heart.”

As Sam and Griffin develop their relationship they’re faced not only with Sam’s struggle to overcome her attack but the glaring spotlight of the pending trial against her attacker and mounting threats discouraging Sam from testifying at the trial. I won’t give any spoilers but I will say that after several close calls and surprising twists, the two leads get a rock solid happy ending.

“Being with you, loving you, knowing you love me… that’s my definition of heaven. I get to spend every day in heaven because of you, so all those little things I do, they’re only glimpses of everything you give me.”

For me it’s easy to like a book but not so easy to love them. I flat out love Pieces For You, the kind of love where multiple times during reading I found myself occasionally hugging my Kindle to my chest. Genna Rulon created something great in Only For You and grew it into something even better with Pieces For You. There are good books, there are great books, and there are books that stay with you. Only For You and Pieces for You are books that I’ll hold near and dear for a long time. Pieces For You is not a stand-alone and should only be read after Only For You. Both stories have made by top 10 reads of 2013.

A portion of the proceeds from sales of Pieces For You will be donated to RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) to assist in their valuable mission of assisting rape and abuse survivors. Great story, great characters, great cause.

Have I mentioned I loved this book? Just thought I’d check.

Happy reading.

Pieces for You takes you on journey. An emotional journey but one full of hope and with plenty of pit stops for humour. And having now loved two books by this author, I know I’m happy to journey though her books anytime I need swoons and smiles.

First line of Pieces for You:

“Since I refuse to speak, the big boss, Shelly, has give me a journal with a promise that I don’t have to share the contents, as long as I write down my thoughts each day.”

My Thoughts on Pieces for You:

First off, I have to apologise to Genna as this review is so late. I should have been on the blog tour two weeks ago but real life butted its ugly head in and I had no time to get my review ready on schedule. However I loved this book! I was reading during a time when I was ultra busy and stressed and Pieces for You was my wind down time every evening. I couldn’t wait to settle down with a glass of wine and a few more chapters and it definitely provided just the escape that I was looking for.

Pieces for You follows on from Only For You and this review may contain some spoilers for Only For You so beware! Sam is now recovering from a traumatic attack that left her shattered but with her indomitable spirit, she grits her teeth and sets to gluing all the pieces back together. It’s not easy, it’s not pretty and it’s not sugar coated in anyway. Her journey is raw and honest and I defy you to read this book and not have your heart broken by what she has to endure.

Luckily Sam has an amazing backup crew to support. Ev, her best friend, is the kind of best friend every girl needs in her life. She loves Sam like a sister, supports her every step of the way and has no problem getting up in her face when she thinks Sam is making a mistake. Ev’s boyfriend Hunter is another loyal supporter and together Ev and Hunter make me laugh with their ridiculous competitions.

But Sam’s biggest supporter is Griffin. He is the perfect man to protect and encourage Sam to move on. I loved at one stage how he felt a bit possessive about what Sam was wearing but he also knew how good the right clothes made Sam feel. I compared this scenario in my own head to a similar one in Beautiful Disaster and Griffin’s reaction won hands down in my opinion. Unlike Travis who felt threatened and insisted on a change of clothes, Griffin used this chance to boost Sam’s confidence.

“He studied me again, shaking his head.
“If you didn’t look so damn spectacular, I’d ask you to change” “

And as fantastic as the characters are and as romantic and passionate as their love scenes are, my favourite part of this book is the humour. It is full of fun and made me laugh over and over again. The imagery at times is hilarious and I had proper belly laughs while reading. You know the ones with snorts and tears! I also loved that there was a few unexpected twists that surprised me as I hate when books are predictable.

Overall a fantastic follow up book that delivers on so many fronts.

Who should read Pieces of You?

I’d highly recommend this one to all lovers of New Adult books as this is one that stands out in that category with its intelligent writing and characters that draw you in.

Thanks to Genna for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Samantha Whitney has suffered the kind of physical and mental torture that anyone would struggle to recover from. She has returned home after spending some time in a healing facility, but now she has to face the realities of life while struggling to put the pieces of herself back together. Her best friend Everleigh is right there with her along with Hunter and their friend Griffen to support her in any way she needs, but Sam longs to feel like her former independent confident self and not have everyone constantly worrying about her. Griffen has been in love with Samantha for years, but before he could make a move she was dating someone else, and then tragedy struck. He never stopped feeling like she was the one for him, but he was willing to wait for her in the role of supportive friend as long as she needed.

Sam works hard to put herself back together and move forward in her life in a healthy way. Griffen quickly starts stirring feelings in her that she was afraid she would never be able to feel again, but she is scared of getting into a relationship that could trigger her having flashbacks of the severe trauma she experienced. As Griffen stands by willing to be there for Sam in whatever way she needs, she finds herself falling deeper and deeper in love with him. He's beyond hot, smart, and incredibly devoted to making her feel safe. Unfortunately, some new threats and terrors bring more tension and conflict into Sam's life, and she struggles to handle the new threats and fears on top of managing her past traumatic experiences.

It was wonderful to get to spend more time with these characters. I really missed Hunter and Ev after finishing Only For You and was thrilled to get to see how their relationship was progressing and get a look at them from another character's perspective. Sam just became more amazing to me as I got to know her better and see just how hard she was working to move forward in her life and feel like herself again. She exhibited some serious emotional strength, and it was nice to see how she tried to use her experience to help other people. It was incredibly sad to learn more just how terrible her birth family was, but wonderful to see the family she created for herself. Griffen is just a spectacular man, and I think it would be hard to find much about him that was anything but desirable. This book has solidified me as a Genna Rulon fan and I will be eagerly awaiting anything she writes next (perhaps Meg's story…). Her characters are people that I would love to be friends with, and I highly recommend this book. 4.5 stars!

"When walking through hell, most people try to hide... feeling fucking hurts, healing fucking hurts. [...] You are one of the few with the bravery to walk through fire, let it burn you to ash, and rise again, changed but all the more beautiful for it."

WHAT. A. BOOK.
OHMYGOODNESS, GRACIOUS. Step aside Hunter, there's a new swoon-worthy character giving you a run for your money. Griffin, Griffin, Griffin!! What a perfect match for Sam.
And Sam... a strong character, determined to overcome all the shitty and horrible situations thrown in her way, a girl who took a nightmare-inducing experience and turn it into motivation to be a better person, to rise again and become a new, stronger, life-loving human being. In her own words:

"Perhaps I'll never be the same, but the pieces missing will be filled with something else--new strength, love, hope, I'm not sure what exactly. I will be whole one day, just different from the original."

I was scared to read this, I thought that I was going to cryyy my eyes out but no, Sam takes no one's pity and I LOVED every page of this story.

So happy I read this, so happy I reeeadd thiiss!!

This is going to sound cheesy as hell, but wouldn't it be wonderful to find someone in your life that can make you think THIS:

He had been my lighthouse, leading me to safe harbor without fail. He'd weathered the storms with me, holding out hope I would find my way to him. His light never flickered, never went out. He was the steadfast beacon--my destination.

Yeah, life's not a book, love is hard, men are idiots and I better start saving to adopt 15 little cats to divide my love with, I KNOW!

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.

Firstly I would like to thank the author and the tour organizers for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book.

Whoa!!! I'm totally impressed with this second installment. I loved the first part but this one just knocked me over totally. [Maybe I said this for Book 1 too!!!] This series is one of the best Contemporary romance novels that I read and you guys know that I don't read many romance novels nowadays.

The characters are so developed that I adored them all and Sam, oh my God, I just loved her so much. She felt so real and connected with my own story that I completely lost myself in her. Well the problems that she faced and the betrayal that shattered her life is not uncommon to us, many of us has faced this situation in real life. Well coming to Griffin, well guys that man is glamorous and sexy and caring as hell, that doesn't go together I know. I wish every girl like Sam should have a man like Griffin in her life.

The plot is awesome and I loved the little twists and turns that the author put up in this story. The pace is perfect and I didn't get bored for even a second. The story is about gathering yourself up after your life has literally ended and you are punched into the dark world of depression. The concept is executed very well and I bet everyone out there will get inspired by this read to overcome their problems and come out of their depression.

I would recommend this book to all and I know that you guys will love it just like I did. Enjoy!!!

First I have to tell you that I cannot give enough praise to Genna and her amazing writing skills. I completely fell in love with Hunter and Ev...now Huntleigh in the first book. And I couldn't wait to hear more about their story in this book as well as to see what might happen with Griffin an Sam. This book was AMAZING!!!! Now Huntleigh are definitely my favorite story and their relationship and everything, but this book was sooo good for so many other reasons. The main was that this story was so raw and real that I felt like I was either Sam trying to live life or someone very close to her living this. It's been a very long time since I've felt something like that and Genna does it perfectly!!! Also I love how at the top of each chapter there is a different quote to relate to the story or chapter. This was my favorite that I think every one (especially women) should live by. "I make mistakes, I'm out of control, and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." - Marilyn Monroe.

Okay so now onto the story, this book starts off right where the last one left off. We start out with Sam writing in her journal at TPC. I read her thoughts and actions and feelings is heart wrenching. To have a somewhat better understanding of what she went through was again so raw and real. I've watched movies and tiv shows (especially Law and Order SVU) so I have a general idea about victims of rape. And I've read books before where the girl was raped and beaten and tried to move on and all, but nothing this real before. But as the story continues Sam starts to get better, enough that she can go home and be with Ev. However, she has night terrors and Ev sleeps in her room to help her and Hunter is always in the house to help too. Hunter has pretty much become her brother and she will only allow his touch (as a guy) because of this. Eventually, when Sam is still getting better they invite Griffin over for dinner, since the four of them are all friends and everything. Only we know from the last book that Griffin has no desire to just be friends with Sam.

I love Griffin. He's sweet and tender and thoughtful and patient when it comes to Sam. And I love how he (for the most part) what to do to help calm her or talk to her. At the dinner Sam finally let's loose a little and starts wailing on Griffin. Who as a side note is effing huge now....he's been working out the last six months. And he takes it and then comforts her and all is better. He helps Sam get herself back to a more closer version of herself. Sam begins to see her therapist and I LOVE THAT WOMAN!!! Her methods are amazing and I found myself laughing a lot every time Sam was in a session. Part of Sam's homework was that she needed to start exercising and who is going to go with her? None other than our big overprotective Griffin. The first night there Sam get's hit on and as Griffin comes out he growls at this guy hitting on Sam. The whole scene was comical.

But Sam also has to get a job and this is where we meet Meg. I like Meg and can't wait to read her story next. With that being said I read the little blurb for the 3rd book (I was curious who was next) and I saw that it was a story between Meg and Wes. And I was like who the eff is Wes? OMG have we met him yet? And then I decided that maybe we meet him in this one. So one day while at work a man comes in to talk to Sam. He's an attorney for Heath's family to basically bribe her with money to not testify. And as he introduces himself I'm floored and all I kept thinking was NOOOOOO Genna wouldn't do this to us come one. But no she did lol and I love her for it too. The attorney's name is Wesley Black. And I was like....Wes....Wesley Black? What no Meg can't date a loser like that.....he's works for the bad people. What is she thinking? But once I finished the book I'll admit I'm dying to know their story now.

So while Sam is still trying to pull herself together she is also dating Griffin. But she doesn't feel like he's going to want damaged goods and at every turn Griffin surprises her and I love him for it. He's no Hunter, but I love him for Sam. But I love the growth that Sam does in this book.....not a lot of women could live through what she does and move on the way she does and it only adds to her strength as a woman. But whilst this is all moving on Sam has dinner with her parents that doesn't end well because they don't want her to testify. When she leaves there it's pretty much the last time she will ever talk to him as Samantha Whitney, their daughter. And further along begins to get threats on her life. They relate it to the family and Sam's testimony and eventually things get worse.

Also stupid loser Robbie comes back into Sam's life. He tries to tell her that he still loves her and is sorry it took him so long to figure that out and that he wants her. Ewww....I threw up in my mouth at that point. I mean really? You broke her heart after she was attacked and then put it in a blender and pushed the on button. But then he touches her and kisses her. OMG REALLY???? I'm pretty sure that you don't just do that to women, especially knowing what Sam has gone through. Well Griffin looses it and beats the hell out of Robbie and the violence doesn't go well for Sam.

Also Griffin has a few secrets of his own. Lionel. I love Lionel. And I love that he speaks about himself in the third person. I especially love Lionel at the very end when Sam goes to the prison to confront someone for their stupidity and I'm completely shocked at the lengths they went to to threaten and try and silence Sam. And finding out the reason they did it. But yes I highly recommend paying attention to Lionel.

But as the story goes on Sam begins to question everything. She can't be with Griffin because what if he turns that violence on her? Although the reason he stops beating the hell out of Robbie was pretty good from my stand point. Will Sam even live threw this book? Who is threatening her? Will Heath be given justice for his crimes? Or will he get off like all the other times? There are so many other questions but I can't bring them up because you need to read this book. I can't recommend it enough and give it enough praises. Can't wait to read the next installment and see what happens with Huntleigh (love those two) and here Sam ends up with things and what's going to happen with Griffin. But also I'm dying to know more about Meg and of course we are going to get to know about Wes....so that should be interesting. Now the only thing I didn't like about this book is the lack of Sam and Ev. Ev was there when something bad always happened, but they never really had girl time or when they were at work it was like Ev was almost never there. You hear a lot about Sam and Griffin, Sam and Meg, Sam and their therapist (love the twist there), and then Sam and Huntleigh. So I'm hoping more Sam and Ev are in the next one....with Meg. They can be a trio. But yes I highly recommend you read this book!!!

Pieces For You follows Samantha’s recovery and journey into living again after her brutal attack and rape. Sam has always been the uplifting, funny, flirty BFF that has no filter and is known for her TMI moments, but now she feels shattered and hollow.

“If I don't talk, I can try to pretend it didn't happen. That it was just a nightmare I have yet to wake up from. If I open my mouth and say the words it becomes real, and if it's real, then I can never escape it.”

After Sam returns home from the recovery center, Everleigh and Hunter are there for her every step of the way. All they want is to see her find her way back and be happy again. There is one more person who wants nothing more than to see Sam’s beautiful smile light up her face and hear her laughter fill a room again…and that's Griffin.

Griffin has been in love with Sam for quite a while but never pursued anything with her because the timing was never right. Sam has never seen Griffin as anything more than a kinda-sorta-friend and bartender since she was in a relationship. While she was away, Griffin had become best friends with Hunter and Everleigh and is now an official part of their group and Thursday night dinner dates.

After Sam was attacked Griffin made a vow to himself never to let anything happen to her again. As much as it kills him he doesn’t go see her right away but after a couple of months he finally makes his way to her house for the weekly dinner and when Sam opens the door…Wow!

A big black t-shirt covered wall of hard muscle is what she sees. Her eyes travel…starting at his chest, makes their way down, down, down, and then slowly back up finally meeting his gaze and she can’t believe what she is seeing…or feeling. Its Griffin…well it’s a bigger, hotter version of the Griffin she remembers. And her libido (that has been nonexistent for months) is now rapidly making a reappearance at the beautiful sight before her. She’s a bit nervous obviously, but it is a welcome sight and feeling.

Beyond my control, my tongue darted out of my mouth and I covertly tasted the section of chest exposed above his tank. Oh god, he tasted even better than he smelled…

“Did you just…lick me?” sounding both shocked and amused.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

You licked me. I felt it,” he accused, but I noticed he wasn't complaining… “In fact, your welcome to have another taste.”

However, she’s not sure what to do about these returned feelings. She doesn’t know how much she can handle but one thing is for sure…she wants Griffin and she feels he is her key to a healthy recovery. He makes her feel safe, he’s fun and supportive, he would never intentionally hurt her and he doesn’t treat her like she is going to break…and that is exactly what she needs.

Griffin is amazing. He is so loving and supportive to Samantha. His love for her goes above and beyond and no matter what it costs him, he will do whatever he can do to keep her safe…even if it means losing her. She will always come first for him.

“This waiting—giving Sam the time she needed to fully trust me and to heal—may kill me, but I would suffer anything to have her.”

Sam’s journey is emotional but she is strong and she is a fighter. I was proud of Sam for her feistiness and independent attitude. She has been dealt a shit family but this book proves that family is not necessarily who you were born to…but who you create your life with.

Sam has a long road ahead of her filled with self-absorbed parents, preparation for the trial of the bastard that vandalized her, a stalker, and regaining her self-worth and self being. Her therapist, Thia (who rocks by the way) gives Sam “homework” assignments every week to challenge her.

“Got it; masterbate, bar hop, movie, eat. Should I take myself to dinner and a movie before I get frisky so I can still respect myself in the morning?”

Slowly you start to see pieces of the old Samantha coming back but also new ones forming. She will never be the girl she used to be…and she is ok with that. She just hopes she will be able to come out stronger and healthier than before.

“Perhaps I’ll never be the same, but the pieces missing will be filled with something else—new strength, love, hope, I’m not sure what exactly. I will be whole one day, just different from the original.”

It’s a heartfelt journey and her self-made family (Everleigh, Hunter, and Griffin) is always there for her. Everleigh was her rock, Hunter was her protector, and Griffin was her glue. But what happens when one of those people aren’t who you think they are? What happens when one of those people shatters your world for a second time taking you back to the horrific night that changed your life forever? Will Samantha be able to overcome her fears and anxiety and truly reclaim what little she has left of herself? Will she ever really be able to wholeheartedly trust someone again?

“There is still so much that needs healing (inside and out) but I'm no longer tethered to him. I am free, and for the first time I know it deep in my bones. He may have beat me, scarred me, shattered me in a million pieces, but I'm not under his control anymore...now I get to decide.”

Pieces For You is a standalone book but I would definitely recommend reading Only For You first. You will get a better idea of Samantha’s past and what has happened to her. You will also get more of Griffin and how his feelings started. Plus, you will want to read Hunter and Everleigh’s story. It’s amazing and they are very much a part of this book as well.

PEPPER & MICHELLE'S JOINT REVIEW
PEPPER: So Pieces For You (PFY)- I think I loved this book even more than Only For You (OFY). I didn’t think it could have gotten any better. Loved it!!

MICHELLE: I know!!! It was amazing. I know we've said this many many times- but when a book has a strong heroine- I automatically love it 100 times more.

And Sam is so amazing, I can't even stand it.

PEPPER: Sam is probably one of my favorite book chicks of all time. And I am so glad she got her story. And that it was GennRu writing it. It all was perfect.

MICHELLE: I agree. Sam is easily one of my favorite book chicks. I mean I am talking at least top 3 here. She has just been through so much it's amazing. I feel like she's a real person and I love her.

PEPPER: Didn't you know we are like BFFs? You are in a strong competetion for bestie of the year award...

MICHELLE: Normally I would be jealous but I can't even be mad. She's like the Jlaw of the book world.

So, for those that did not read Only For You- the first in this series- stop what you are doing and read it. I almost think Pieces For You could be a standalone but you need to read the first book to really see what Sam goes through.

PEPPER: SERIOUSLY. Perfectly said.

Yes, I would definitly agree. You can read it as a standalone, but you will miss out on the amazingness that is OFY, Everleigh, Hunter, all of it.

MICHELLE: A lot of times when you have a book like this where you see characters from book 1 but it's not their story- those characters are an afterthought. GennRu did an AMAZING job of making Huntleigh (Hunter + Everleigh) as much a part of this book as they were in their own. I thought that was awesome. It wasn’t distracting or anything but it was realistic. Sam and Everleigh were best friends and HuntLeigh had gotten close to Griffin so it made sense for them to be a part of her life. I loved them so much and I was glad to really see more of them.

PEPPER: Yes, they def need to win the supporting book cast award.

So, going back to Sam.

I wanted her to get her story so bad. But let's be honest, this is a rough story to be told. GennRu did this flawlessly. The timing with Griffin couldn't have been more perfect. I was worried that GennRu would rush this or move to slow. But it was PERFECT!! I'm literally yelling right now.

MICHELLE: I agree. Some really bad shit happens to Sam but GennRu writes it perfectly. It's realistic. Sam would never be ok overnight and ready to jump into bed with a man no matter how hot he was.

PEPPER: Right. But it also wasn't agonizingly slow either.

And, speaking of mother hugging hotness...Griffin. I even like him better than Hunter.

MICHELLE: Oh. Yes. I loved Hunter but Griffin. Is. Everything.
Top book boyfriend for real. Really GriffLo is the best couple I have read about in a long time.

PEPPER: Yep. By far - OMG best hybrid ever (GriffLo)...
And just so you all know- Lo is Griffin’s nickname for Sam. And it’s so damn cute. Dead. I died.

MICHELLE: OMG. So LO is cute enough when he tells her how he came up with it. But when you find out what it really stands for and not just what he tells her - I am 99.9% sure I was crying cause it was that damn sweet.

PEPPER: Things were totally happening in my nether regions. I wanted to message GennRu and do something like this:

MICHELLE: Also- you know how in the romance world- you know that something is going to happen to rock the perfect relationship right?

Well I thought that the way GennRu created problems for GriffLo was so perfect. But even more than that- the way that they patch things up...

PEPPER: OMG. Yes Ovaries. Done. God- it was perfect. They are perfect!!!

So Sam and Griffin are perfect alone, more perfect together. What if they have a love child?? This is what I would do if they did:

MICHELLE: I would die. They are so perfect together. Seriously one of the best couples ever.
There is just not one single thing about this book I didn't love.
Sam is the most amazing woman ever.
Griffin is the sweetest and hottest guy in existence. And must be imaginary simply because no one can be that perfect.
Hunter and Everleigh are the best supporting cast in history and even the addition of Megan was done so well that I am already dying for her story.

PEPPER: That should be on the back jacket. All of the above...
Anyway, one thing I want to say about GennRu is that I love that she puts some mystery into her books. So it's not like, girl + guy = sex blah blah. She actually has some other stuff going on, and I love that because when everything is going great for everyone, there is still the element of the mystery that we are waiting to figure out.

MICHELLE: I agree. And her mystery element is done so well. Like I literally did not see this coming in PFY. But in a lot of books I can usually guess. Not here. I just was totally shocked.

PEPPER: And she is also fucking hilarious. So so witty. The charcters have great conversation and there is so much wit in these books. I love it all so much!

MICHELLE: Oh totally. GennRu has easily secured a place in my top authors. No question.

PEPPER: Oh and another thing. I love how things were handeled with Sam's family situation. I don't want to go into it as to not spoil, but from the first book we understand that her parents are assholes. And the way things play out for them sucks, but Sam really reacted well. I would have been like:

But Sam was boss, all calm, just like:

MICHELLE: God. There are just no words to describe how awful her parents are. But Sam is just so damn strong. I love her.

There is just nothing about this book that isn't 100% awesome. You need to get GennRu in your life. Like- have to.

PEPPER: I could go on all night. So good.

GennRu is:

MICHELLE: LOL. YES- she is. And yes, we could go on and on and on about how much we love this book. But if we keep raving about this book you won't get a chance to read it lovers. So go- read it. Love it

" While we have the gift of life, it seems to me the only tragedy is to allow part of us to die -- whether it is our spirit, our creativity or our glorious uniqueness."
-Gilda Radner

Just a heads up: If you have NOT read Only For You yet please read it FIRST! If you read Pieces For You first it's fine. It can be read as a standalone, however it's a lot better to read Only For You first.

So here's the thing, I absolutely Loved Only For You! It was an amazing story that sucked emotions out of me I didn't even know I had. It was powerful and extremely emotional mixed in with a love story. I knew Genna would be able to top it, and she certainly did with Pieces For You. Every emotion I felt while reading the first book got doubled while reading this one. I love Genna's style of writing. She draws you in and doesn't let you go even if it's been a few days since reading. Yes, it's that powerful. I still am finding it hard to come up with words to describe this book. It's just one you'll have to read and experience for yourself.

" I smiled a small, self-satisfied smile. That's right, bitches…I can do this. You don't control me -- I'm in charge here."

Just to get you up to speed, in Only For You there was a serial rapist on campus that ended up killing three of the victims. Samantha aka Sam ended up being one of the last victims. She was beat extremely bad and raped in a way you wouldn't want to be and left for dead. He took things from her. Pieces For You is her story. It's her trying to put her life back together the best she can. To overcome the rape and beating. To learn to trust again.

Sam even though she doesn't see it yet is extremely strong. She spends two months at The Phoenix Centre to learn how to "heal" and "recover." She doesn't want to talk let alone be here. She's here for her best friend Everleigh, she's the only reason she's going to try. Well that and the fact she heard a young woman's story in group. She was fourteen years old and her story gave her the strength to tell hers. From that point on it was a little easier to talk about and she ended up finding herself participating more and healing. One step at a time…just one step at a time. Hell she even finds herself in the mall and tells some guys off who just can't take a hint. It's empowering :)

" Every morning I jump out of bed and step on a landmine. The landmine is me. After the explosion, I spent the rest of the day putting the pieces together."
-Ray Bradbury

Once released from TPC she goes home where she lives with Everleigh. The only people she trusts completely right now let alone will let touch her are Everleigh and Hunter. Hunter is Everleigh's boyfriend and a FBI agent. Sam has constant night terrors and is brought back to reality by Everleigh who is always there to comfort her. She will sleep on the floor to help her feel more comfortable, but she rarely ever falls back to sleep after a terror. It's just too scary. As each day passes though it gets that much easier for her to live life. The terrors aren't as frequent. She is starting to become more independent.

One night Griffin comes over for dinner. It's the first night any man besides Hunter has been around Sam. You see Griffin has been in love with Sam for quite some time now, however she was always off limits because she was with the douche bag with no balls. Yep, I said it. Lol. From the night Griffin steps in the house her libido comes back to life. Which says a lot because it hasn't once stirred or even shown signs of life since the incident.

" I will never hurt you. I would give anything to take away the pain you've suffered, but that's impossible. I don't expect your unconditional trust; I'll earn that over time. Once you're comfortable enough to drop your guard with me, you can relax and enjoy life for a little while, knowing you are protected."

Yeah, after reading that quote I bet you swooned just a little. I'm telling you that man is perfect and totally swoon worthy!!!

Sam goes through a lot in this story. She's extremely strong though, and you can't help but feel and have tons of respect for her. She overcomes a lot. I absolutely loved this story and I hope you will too.

I highly recommend you buy and read this book today!!!! You won't be disappointed.

Genna delivers another amazing story. She has found a fan for life, and I can't wait to read more of her work. Now bring on more Hunter and Everleigh!!! HAHAHA More Sam and Griff. I want more more more more more. I'm greedy like that. <3

I rate Pieces For You 20+, but since that's not allowed for some reason I rate it 5+ Stars!

" Beyond my control, my tongue darted out of my mouth and covertly tasted the section of chest exposed above his tank. Oh god, he tasted even better than he smelled, like a chocolate-covered pretzel -- sweet, salty, and addictive. "Did you just…lick me?"

"Fine…I licked you. But it was an involuntary reflex -- hot guy, exposed chest…you know how it is."

When I was first approached by Genna Rulon to read Only For You, I have to admit I was excited. You can tell a lot about an author not only by their approach but by the way they speak.  Genna was humble, she was funny, she was kind, and I could tell that Only For You was going to be a good book. I was not disappointed! You can and should read my review for Only For You here. When Genna asked me to beta read Pieces For You I was surprised and unbelievably honored. Believe me when I say Genna Rulon is an author to watch. I can’t wait for you to read her books, tell your friends, tell your family. I can't wait for everyone to be talking about Genna Rulon the amazing new the author. The woman who can write about a sensitive subject with grace and eloquence without making it cheap or dirty. There’s just enough realism without making it hard to digest. Her female characters are some of the best I've ever read. They're strong, independent, loving, funny, sexy and incredibly intelligent.  Her leading men are the same, confident without being cocky, they're strong, handsome, smart, fiercely protective but above all else they're kind and compassionate.

Pieces For You picks up Sam's story where Only For You leaves off. What happened to Sam in Only For You is beyond imaginable. It was brutal. It was absolutely horrific. The beginning starts out with journal entries written by Sam. You get glimpses into her psyche at that moment in time. You get to hear her thoughts about how she's feeling, what she's thinking, and what she knows is her truth. I thought it was brilliant to give us that insight. There was no sugar coating Sam's reality. You will feel this woman's pain.

I adore Sam. I know I sing Griffin's praises and some of those are for personal reasons. I'll get to that in a minute. Sam however, I thought she was fantastic in Only For You. In fact I thought she had some of the best lines in that book. She's hilarious, I mean laugh out loud funny, her humor is without restraint, it's not forced at all, it's just who she is. To watch Sam's recovery or should I say read as we're taken on Sam's journey through recovery it is emotional and incredibly well written. There are many deep layers throughout this story. You will connect with Sam in a way you probably didn't think was possible.

Griffin has been waiting for Sam to come back. We knew Griffin had feelings for Sam in Only For You. He was just waiting, patiently. When Sam was hurt, Griffin was furious. He spent a lot of time preparing himself for her. He wants to protect her. He wants to be her friend, her confidant, her shoulder to cry on. He wants to help her move on. He wants to love her. He does love her. The way Griffin handles Sam is perfect. When I say perfect I don't mean literally. We all know nothing is perfect and Genna will remind you that from time to time. When I say perfect I mean for them, as friends, as a couple. He is perfect for Sam. His background in psychology definitely helps. He doesn't try to diagnose her or tell her what to do or how to feel. He's just always there for her with kindness, patience, compassion, and love. Trust me your heart will be so full with all that is Griffin that you'll find yourself sighing and maybe even crying at times. I suffer from ptsd and anxiety attacks. I know what I need from my husband and I know what I don't need. We've figured it out over time and he's amazing. I tell you this because Genna Rulon has written Griffin in such a way I know for a fact compliments what Sam is dealing with.

Of course Pieces For You wouldn't be complete without Everleigh and Hunter. Those two are a dynamic that had to be included. I don't think Genna could have written this story completely without them. They will make you smile and even laugh. Mostly laugh I think.

I know that I beta read this book and maybe some of you will that think I HAVE to write a good review. I hope that you know me well enough by now to know that I'm a very honest person. If something isn't good I will tell you. If I didn't feel like I could put my stamp of approval on it, I wouldn't. It's not often that I tout an author's work like this. Not unless I believe in them. I implore you to pick up Only For You and Pieces For You, you will not be disappointed.

I am so in love with this series and this book blew me away! It was above and beyond my expectations. Sam is so strong and Griffin compliments her so well. Griffin is a dream come true and if I meet a man like him, I won't EVER be letting go!

FULL REVIEW
I am absolutely, unequivocally in love with this series and Piece for You was fantastic. I adored Hunter in Only for You but Genna managed to create and even finer male specimen in Griffin and knocked Hunter to the #2 spot. I love the way she mixes romance with mystery and intrigue and the development of the characters and their relationships with one another is incredible.

I really liked Sam. She was definitely a memorable and loved secondary character in Only for You so I was excited to get her story. She has been through A LOT and but what I love most about her is her strength and determination. She doesn’t back down and she won’t be intimidated. The way she opens herself up with Griffin is incredible considering everything she has been through and I was happy to see that she wasn’t completely jaded. She recognized his awesomeness and she didn’t let past experiences deter her from getting to know him better and discovering the connection that she felt. My only disappointment in Sam was her reaction to something that Griffin did. I understood her initial reaction to the situation but I felt like she overreacted a bit later on considering all she knew about him.

Griffin… Yes, his name is enough. He is such an incredible character and one of the swooniest men I have met over the last year. He is incredibly protective, sweet, charming, sexy, drive, loyal… I could go on and on. Oh yeah, he also sings and plays the guitar. I am seriously in LOVE. Anyways, enough of my gushing. Griffin has had feeling for Sam for quite some time but never found the right moment to make himself noticed. When Sam comes back, Griffin realizes he has a second chance and he takes full advantage of it. He not only wants Sam to notice him, he wants her to SEE him and boy does she. Like Sam, I was a little disappointed with Griffin during the “incident” because I felt like he could have fought harder. I understand that he made a questionable decision in an intense situation but when Sam got spooked, he gave up way too easily considering how hard he worked to get her attention. I felt like he should have fought harder to win her back and made a big gesture immediately.

I don’t want to say much about the plot so as not to give anything from the first book away for those who haven’t read it but if you have read it, you know what Sam is going through. I loved that Everleigh and Hunter are a still a huge part of this book because they are crucial in her recovery and the most important support system she has. Her parents are absolutely horrific and I couldn’t believe the callousness of her father. There was definitely no love or support there so I was happy that she had the friends she did in her life. I liked that the primary focus of this book was Sam’s journey to heal and move forward, as well as the relationship she built with Griffin. However, Genna also adds a subplot of mystery and suspense that complemented the primary plot so well and I loved how it all flowed together. I swooned over Sam and Griffin’s beautifully budding romance while curious and intrigued by who could be behind the threats to Sam. I was definitely surprised by the turn of events and didn’t expect the events that unfolded. We also met Meg, Sam’s coworker and there is a certain mystery behind her that was left open for her story and I look forward to reading it.

I really, truly enjoyed this book and I am a definite fan of Genna’s writing. She expertly mixes all of the elements that make a book work for me including interesting plot, fantastic character development and cohesive writing. Sam and Griffin have a lot of obstacles to overcome and they have their moments of discouragement and fear but they also have a connection that transcends all and when Sam needed Griffin more than anything, he was there. He would do anything to protect Sam and he proved that multiple times. Sam was a strong, independent woman and she became even stronger throughout the book. Griffin may have wanted to protect Sam, but he also fostered her strength, never holding her back or assuming she was weak. I loved every aspect of it, to the very end.

*** Warning: this review will have spoilers for Only For You. Proceed with caution if you've not read it.***

Sam was one of my favorite characters in Genna Rulon's first book, Only For You. I was absolutely devastated when she was brutally attacked by creepy bastard terrorizing their campus. At the end I knew she was alive, but completely broken and unlike the woman she once was. I was so happy the second book would be her story. I figured it would be an emotional journey and was I ever right.
"I don't want to be understood and seen. I want to disappear. If no one can see me, no one can hurt me."

Pieces For You is Sam's journey back to herself. It takes awhile for her journey to get started in earnest, as the book begins with her writing journal entries, catatonic in the hospital where she's trying to recover – mentally and physically – from the horrific events of the previous book. My heart absolutely broke for Sam. She went from being a strong, sassy, sexual woman to a shell of her former self. And understandably so. She survived something no woman, no person should ever have to experience. Slowly but surely she begins to come alive again. Her strength brought tears to my eyes. She had a long way to go, but she was well on her way when she returned home to her friends.
"My libido was still on extended vacation in Bora Bora, sunning herself on the deck of her overwater bungle with a fruity drink in one hand and a book in the other. She had an open ticket and clearly had no intention of booking her return flight in the foreseeable future... bitch."

One of the more difficult things for Sam to deal with was the loss of her sex drive. It was such a big part of who she was before and even as life returned to the new normal, she couldn't quite get that part of herself back. Until Griffin came into the picture anyhow. Merely a friend before, she starts seeing him in a new way and believes he just might be the key to her finding that part of herself again. Griffin's been in love with her since the first time he saw her, so he's happy to oblige. What begins as a strengthening friendship quickly becomes more. But, Griffin is keeping secrets too. Secrets that threaten to undo all the good that's been done. Regardless, he is strong and supportive and truly cares about her. It's obvious in his words and actions.
"Lo, you could never disappoint me. If you're honest with me and yourself, you have no reason to worry. No one's unblemished, we all have our scars – some are just easier to hide. The right man will navigate the minefield and bring you to the other side safely. He will find a way to give you the pleasure you deserve, no matter what it takes. You are worth any effort."

In addition to Sam's recovery and her budding romance with Griffin, friendships and familial relationships are explored in Pieces For You. While all this is happening, Sam's receiving threatening notes on her car and visits from an attorney representing the scum bag who attacked her. There were lots of twists and turns and things I didn't see coming a mile away. Add to that the friends-to-more romance, some steamy sexy times and the amazing characters I fell in love with in Only For You, this book kept me engrossed and I read it straight through in one sitting. One emotional sitting.

Everleigh and Hunter play a big part in this book. I loved them in Only For You and I loved them even more in this book. Their relationship with each other was sheer perfection. Their support of Sam was what you would expect from true friends. As I mentioned earlier, I loved Sam. Such a strong, determined woman, despite of – or perhaps because of – what happened to her. Griffin was so swoony. He was perfect on the outside, but he had a little bit of darkness underneath. But that all came from his feelings for and need to protect same. All of the characters were complex, believable and lovable. I want to be friends with them all.

Genna Rulon has found herself a spot high on my auto-buy author list. I love her writing and her characters. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite NA authors.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All quotes come from the review copy and may differ from the final version.

I have fallen in love with the first book in this series, and now the second book had me hooked again as I read and anticipate Sam & Griffin’s story towards healing, trust, and love.

Some people might have drowned themselves in oblivion if they experienced what Sam had. She was betrayed by the man she thought loves her – which had almost cost her life. Broken and lost, Sam spends months at a safe haven trying to heal and regain her old self back. When it was time to return home, she still struggled to go into back into her normal life. Her old routine didn’t feel familiar anymore, and nightmare consumes her sleep. Good thing she has Everleigh, Hunter – and someone unexpected – Griffin.

He shouldn’t have waited. He should have acted on his feelings back then – maybe he could have protected Sam. But Griffin cannot turn the time anymore. So, he focused on the now. He wanted to support her, show that he cares but not to the point of overwhelming her. He gives her the space that she needs, but still near enough to catch her when she falls.

But it seems her nightmares weren’t enough – threats starts to come. How far does Griffin willing to take to protect her?

If you loved Everleigh and Hunter in the first book, I’m sure you will fall in love with these two as well. I had admire Sam’s courage to surpass what happened to her, and brave enough to fight back. Some would probably mum, keep it to themselves because of shame – but Sam, despite the threats, the tempting monetary offer – had stood her ground. She had been violated, she will fight for her right. She is an inspiration for those women who had experience the same tragic effect in their lives. The initial shock might have had her in a bad state, but once it had faded, she tries every single day to come back into her old self. She wouldn’t let a single event shape her life.

As for our hunk, Griffin – I love the way he loves her.

The waiting – giving Sam the time she needed to heal and trust me – may kill be, but I would suffer anything to have her.

You can feel the strength of it, but not to the point of overbearing. He takes care of her, he was patient with her and didn’t push knowing she wasn’t ready to do anything yet. He was a complete gentleman and I adore him. He would do ANYTHING for her – he will even risk his life, his future to make sure she’s safe.

The friendship Everleigh and Hunter had given these two are priceless. They had both become Sam’s pillar during the time she needed help the most. They didn’t complain that their privacy was invaded, or when she woke them up in the middle of the night screaming.

Just like the first book – this one is filled with sexual tension, surprises, twists and unforeseen enemies. I didn’t stop until I finished the last page – I wanted to know how these two will get their HEA and who’s behind the threats. Just when I thought I knew who – I was in for the biggest surprise of my life.

Pieces of You is a story of healing and survival. It’s about a girl who thought she had lost everything – and come back, stronger, ready to conquer whatever life throws at her. It’s a story about friendship, and love – trust and honesty being the main ingredients for the survival of a relationship. Pieces of You tells us a story about love strong enough to survive trials, the storms and even the darkest of times. It’s a story that will inspire a lot of scared women to gain courage and to never give up hope. It’s a must read.

WARNING! This review is for book 2 of the “For You” series. It’s best if you’ve read book 1, “Only For You”. Don’t want to spoil the series for you with this review. Just know you’ve been warned.

Read Lynne’s Review of “Only For You” at SMIBookClub.com

“Que a full blown orchestra with every instrument imaginable”. My heart strings were definitely tugged with beyond belief. This series is like a diamond in a rough. You think you are getting the same story that we are all use to but in my opinion, you’re not. You are getting characters that live with you forever and a story that makes you want to hug the hell out of someone close to you because it makes you that sentimental and emotional.

“Pieces for You” by Genna Rulon now tells the story Ev’s best friend Sam. She is going through a tough road of recovery after being brutally raped in the first novel. The book gives you insight to her time at an Arizona treatment center and how it was difficult to open herself up to the other women and counselors there. After much progress Sam is home and trying to put every broken piece of her back together again. Ev and Hunter, who’s story was captured in the 1st book, (SEE! That’s why you have to read the 1st book! So much stuff goes down there that sets you up for this book!) is by her side to bring some semblance of normalcy back to her life. *Switching to boxing announcer voice*, “Entering in through Sam’s front door. Weighing approximately 230ish, 6ft plus, blonde, muscular and has Abs for days…. Griffin Evensen!!! *Switching back to book reviewer mode*, Sam has known Griffin for quite some time, but never saw him more than just a friend and bartender at their favorite hangout spot. Griffin, on the other hand, has been pinning for her since he first saw her a few years back. Now with time on their side could these two even be something more? Not according to Sam. She’s too broken and used, no man could want her. With the rape trial against her attacker looming and a serious threat taking precedent in her life…can Sam try to find her way back to when things were just…normal?

Right off the bat, I have to say that I thought this book was so well written. From how this book started off as journal entries, you just knew this was going to be an emotional ride. Any book that deals with rape and it’s aftermath is always a rough one. You have the person who is shattered. Trying and desperately to get it all back. You have the people in her life that will fight tooth and nail to protect her at all cost. Feeling a bit guilty that they weren’t there to protect her the first time. Ms. Rulon didn’t sugarcoat Sam’s feelings throughout this book and I liked that. You saw her daily struggles, panic attacks, nightmares she endured. What I liked most about this novel was how STRONG Sam and Griffin were in this book. I just loved Sam. She’s funny, smart, sarcastic and goes by her own rules. She is probably one of my favorite female characters of all time. Yup I’m going there. She went through such a transformation in this novel. Not knowing if she was going to be able to be with another man intimately or if any man knowing the truth about her could ever want something more with her. Well she didn’t have to wonder who that man was going to be, Griffin was her match and he made himself known. I loved Griffin! This man makes me want to bow down to him. Gentle giant who adored and loved him some Sam. He went above and beyond to make sure Sam was protected or felt safe. And when you read this novel you will know what I’m talking about. There were a few scenes where Griffin talked Sam off of the ledge when she was going through her panic attacks. The patience he had with her. The way he loved her spoke volumes. What a beautifully written character.

Another plus with this book was that you also got Griffin’s POV in this novel. Which I thought was written superbly. This story was amazingly told and just became one of my favorites, which I know I will reread again. Out of a 5 I’m giving it a 5. Ms. Rulon you stole my heart with this installment. This novel was written to perfection, great story, characters and so happy you included Ev and Hunter. You know you had too! Be on the lookout for, ‘Temper for You’. This is the 3rd novel in the series. This will centered around Meg, who was introduced in this novel. As you may have guessed, I’m looking forward to it.

Can someone recover from meeting the devil in person, being violated and beaten by him, and then left for dead?

This was a question Samantha Whitney asked herself in her diary while in recovery at The Phoenix Center after a brutal and vicious attack that left her physically and emotionally damaged. The attack happened in Only for You and I strongly recommend reading that book before this one. I have to say, I had some reservations with the first book in the beginning, but, by half-way through those went out the window and the writing changed and I was drawn into it. This book, it reads completely different. I am so glad I saw the strength in the characters and continued on to this one...

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book. The writing was captivating and so well-done that I was hooked from the first sentence! The diary entries were outstanding. I could have read more of them. They felt so real. I felt like a voyer, like I was doing something dirty by secretly peeping into someone's secret writings. They were so heartfelt and emotional. So stricken with pain and honesty that I was sucked in. Really. I can't say enough. Samantha's emotional/psychological distress was painful to experience. I cried. My heart ached for her.
I'm realizing how much that asshole took from me-my choice, my power, my sense of security, and worst of all, my self-worth.

Once she got out of TPC she returned home to the ever faithful and supportive Everleigh. Her "sister", her friend. Riddled with nightmares and self doubt, without their relationship Sam would not have recovered. Ever was her rock, her lifeline.
"You ok?" Everleigh asked quietly.
"No," I answered honestly...for a change.
"You're going to be," she said with conviction.
"How do you know?"
"Because we won't let it be any other way."
I clung to her determination in the absence of my own. Before I fell back to sleep, I mouthed a quick prayer, hoping she was right.

Their relationship was a true testament to unconditional love. Ever put Sam first in every way imaginable. She embodied the true definition of friend. And watching Sam fight to come back to herself because she wanted to fulfill her promise to do so for Ever was so powerful and uplifiting. There are times in our lives when we have to cling to something or someone to get us through to the next hour because we just aren't strong enough to do it ourselves.

The beauty of this story was that Sam had Ever. But she also had Hunter, Ever's boyfriend with whom Sam found security, and she found she had Griffin. The man who had rescued her once in her past, and who desperately wanted to be there for her now. Griffin had been waiting for her previous relationship to end, and when he found out about her brutal attack, he was devastated.

After two months of waiting to ensure she was ready to see someone other than Ever and Hunter, he is invited to the apartment for dinner. Griffin immediately sets forth on his plan to make Sam comfortable and help her with her recovery. It is evident from the start how much he cares for her. Although we get a glimpse of this in the previous book, it is strongly evident now. He. Is. Amazing! I pledge my undying love for him right now! He is sensitive, loving, caring, devoted, protective, HOT, SEXY...PERFECT. He handles her with such care and love that you can't help but swoon.

Of course, after what she has been through, her self-worth has been through the ringer, and her insecurities are at an all time high. Forcing herself to question whether she is capable of having a relationship with anyone, let alone being good enough for Griffin.
"Lo, you could never disappoint me. If you're honest with me and yourself, you have no reason to worry. No one's unblemished, we all have our scars-some are just easier to hide. The right man will navigate the minefield and bring you to the other side safely. He will find a way to give you the pleasure you deserve, no matter what it takes. You are worth any effort."

Samantha faces many difficulties and struggles to overcome them. But her friends are always there. Griffin never waivers in his devotion to her. There is so much to write about this book that I have not even touched on. So, just go, get the series and start reading. 5 STARS!!!

Pieces For You is a captivating journey of survival, healing, and sacrifice—teeming with honesty, humor, unexpected twists, and love’s unsurpassed endurance.begin to plague Sam, it is Griffin she is forced to turn to.

Though Pieces For You is a part of the For You Series, the book can be read as a stand alone.

ARC Was Given To Blog For An Honest Review

You are everything to me. All those pieces of me amount to nothing on their own—you are my whole. I was designed to be pieces for you.
Did that quote make you swoon? Well it definitely made me. I am so EXCITED to bring you this review. I thought that I loved the first book by Genna Rulon, well let me tell you for a new author, she hit it over the green monster and then some with the second book, Pieces for You. This woman is not a one hit wonder that is for sure.

The story continues with Sam and the aftermath of a horrific event in her life. I adored Sam from the first book; her sassy attitude, snarky remarks, no filter mouth and her lust for life always made me smile and laugh. You would think that a connection to her would be less since she was a supporting character in book one, but that is not so. The author captures your interest with each and every one of the characters in her books, I never felt like either Only for You or Pieces for You was one specific story.

I am amazed at how the author could have me crying a river. I literally could not see through the tears within the first few pages and then BAM the next thing I know I am hysterically laughing. The subject matter is not funny. She gives us a character that is damaged but wants to fight her way back to who she was before. Sam is determined and very focused on her recovery. It is not going to be an easy road for her to travel, using all that strength she has and with the friends that are in her life, she is bound to have it all.

Now Griffin what a hot hunk of eye candy. He is not your typical piece of meat though. He is smart and caring with a raw protective nature. Griffin has been in love with Sam since the first time he met her. He had to bide his time to get his chance, watching from afar as she was in love with another. Once he has it, he is in it for the long haul. There is no question about a relationship with these two. Time is all that is needed. It’s the story of how they get there that is so beautiful. There is NOTHING that Griffin will not do to protect Sam. I actually think I love Griffin more than I love Hunter and I really do love Hunter. You really can feel how powerful his love for her is and I love the honesty reflected in the relationship.

This is an unbelievably beautiful story of healing and how love can help you to heal. Laughter is big in this book, I promise you tons of laugh out loud moments. This author is so funny. I can’t wait for you to meet Thia. That is all I am saying, she is one of my favorite supporting characters of any book I have ever read.

The story had a fluidity that felt very real; as in the first book there is a bit of a mystery to solve and it is a shocker of an ending. We also get to meet some new intriguing characters that I believe future stories will be about and we enjoy more of Everleigh and Hunter. I am loving this series. Each book has a continuation to it but no cliffhanger. It is a genius way to write a book; it feels more like a weekly series only takes a bit longer than a week to get. The cast is filled with dynamic characters and engrossing plots. Genna Rulon has captured my attention with her outstanding writing ability and her ingenuity to keep the reader on their toes always wanting more. I will stress that these books can be read as stand alones, but I highly recommend you read Only for You before beginning this story. You will have a better understanding and have full effect in its entirety.
I would give this book and series 100 stars if I could.

I loved Genna Rulon's debut novel, Only For You, the first in the For You series. With bated breath, I waited for Samantha's story. If you've read Only For You, you'll understand why I was waiting with bated breath: Sam undergoes a trauma at the end of book one and Pieces For You is her story. I'm so happy to report that Pieces For You was every bit as good as Only For You. Rulon escapes the sophomore book syndrome with ease, delivering a sequel just as compelling as the first book in the series.

I really didn't think I could love another couple as much as I loved Everleigh and Hunter from book one. Speaking of Huntleigh (their couple name, bestowed upon them by Sam), I loved that they were a vital part of Pieces For You. I would have been thrilled for a couple of cameos of their HEA, but Rulon went one step further and gave me a front-row seat to their happiness. I loved her for that, and I loved getting to read about Everleigh and Hunter really enjoying each other and settling into their relationship with a deep level of honesty and respect for each other.

As much as I liked seeing the characters from book one, Sam and Griffin's relationship made this story so special. I fell in love with Griffin right along with Sam. He was so perfect for her, so caring, loving and patient. I loved how he treated her as he would something precious and irreplaceable (because she is!), and yet he never treated her with kid gloves after her attack, like many people would be apt to do.

There was so much positive character growth in this book. Pieces For You is truly a journey of healing for Sam, one that was emotional, moving, and inspiring. I loved watching Sam put her life back together. Sam fights hard for each piece of her old self, and while she'll never be the Sam she was before her brutal attack, she grows into a different person, one with empathy, strength and fortitude. I really admired Sam and was thrilled at her growth and eventual happiness.

I love Rulon's writing style. Her writing is smart, sassy, and concise. There are no superfluous scenes, or extra "fluff" as I like to call it. Each scene furthers the plot development, often in ways I don't realize at the time. Her dialogue is just right: realistic without being full of slang or abbreviations (ugh, I hate those), and she always hits the right note on the repartee between lovers and friends. Every interaction felt real, not contrived. Reading her books is like watching events unfold in real life, instead of knowing that what I'm reading is fiction (because of the way the story's written). I love that about her writing and this series!

One of the things I always notice about books in the New Adult genre are the bedroom scenes: are there too many, are they too "much", are they an expression of love between characters, instead of just lust? These are the things I think about, and what I value in these particular scenes. I'm happy to say that Rulon, once again, gets this right too: the love scenes were a tender yet passionate expression of the relationship between the two main characters. They were definitely more adult than YA (as they should be, as Pieces For You is NA), but completely appropriate for the story, and very well-done.

Like in Only For You, the minor characters made this story special, especially Meg. I really, really want to know more about Meg! I'm hoping that book three will be Meg's story. I can see her becoming an essential part of the 'For You' gang.

Pieces For You was one of my favorite reads this month, and Genna Rulon has been elevated to auto-buy status for me. If she writes it, I'll buy it! I can't think of one thing I'd change about this book: it was perfect. I highly recommend this series, and can't wait for book three!

Jointly reviewed by Leary and I...

Alexis: Both Leary and I became very fond of Genna's writing while reading Only For You. So, when we received the ARC for Pieces For You, we were both on it immediately. I don't want to speak for Leary, but I can say that this book caused the mother of all book hangovers for me. Seriously, I read 3 books within the same week and thought that I should maybe reread Pieces For You again because I liked it ten times more than the other 3 books. I know, I think I might have a small obsession with this book.

Leary: I literally squealed when we got the ARC in. I immediately stopped the book I was reading to pick up Pieces For You. I didn't think I could love anyone more than Hunter and Everleigh but Griffin and Sam completely stole my heart. Side note: Although these books can be read as stand alones, I really feel they should be read in order to get the full impact of the story. If you read the 2nd book first it basically spoils the entire first book.

Once I finished Pieces For You I tried to pick up another book & couldn't. This book stuck in my mind and I just needed to read more of the sexy and heart melting Griffin and the sassy and strong willed Sam. You can probably guess what I did next, I reread it immediately!

Alexis: I hear ya Leary, Griffin was delicious in every way. He is sitting high at number 3 on my book boyfriend list. I think the, best way to describe him is to call him a gentle giant. What I would do to be his "Lo". The way he would just hold Sam and comforted her after her episodes was amazing. Also, in this book there are some songs weaved in and I have to admit that this was the first book that actually had me pulling up Google to check out the song lyrics for Fix You by Coldplay.

Sam on the other hand was a survivor, yes I have Destiny's Child now in my head. She survived the worst kind of assault and was able to get through it with some help from Everleigh, Hunter, Griffin, and the fabulous Thia. Yes, I simply adored Thia her therapist. Their therapy sessions provided some great comic relief. I have to give Genna some huge props for writing a very tough subject matter so well. I literally felt like I was living Sam's hell right along with her.

Leary: I was quite shocked with the first interaction between Sam and Thia but I grew to totally love the snarky therapy sessions. Yes Alexis, I feel the same way. Genna did an amazing job writing this tough subject. She first introduced us to these attacks in Only For You and in Pieces For You we got to be in the mind of someone that survived a horrendous attack. I absolutely loved how Griffin, Hunter, and Everleigh were there for Sam throughout the entire book. They gave her the comfort she needed and read the times that she needed space and gave that to her without a fight. Each of them were there for her every step of the way. I cannot stress enough how much I love this group and loved getting more glimpses of Hunter and Everleigh as well. We were reintroduced to a character from Only For You and I would put money down to say that the next story will be about her. I CANNOT wait for the next book!! I need more huntleigh and hmmm...we need to come up with a witty name for Griffin and Sam. I need to be more witty like Sam!

Alexis: You can have Sam’s wittiness, I want and NEED a wardrobe like Sam’s. As for a couple name, what about Gram?? I loved seeing Huntleigh as a couple too-they are super cute but not as adorable as Gram. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone and everyone...wait I already have. I love Genna and can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Leary: ohhh Alexis, I love Gram! If you haven't read Genna's books, you seriously need to! These books are on the top of both of our favorites lists!

Pieces for You is book two in Genna Rulon's For You series, and the majority takes place a few months after the events of book one while following Sam, Everleigh's best friend. This can be read as a standalone, but I suggest readers read Only for You first so you can understand relationship dynamics and the events that brought the characters to this point in Pieces for You.

Summary:
Samantha Whitney walked through hell and came out the other side only to find that her life had forever flipped upside down and that she'd been betrayed by the man she'd come to love. Now broken, almost beyond repair, Samantha is struggling to pick up all the pieces and find herself again. For the last couple of months, she's been able to hide herself away in a safe haven for women, but real life and the friends she views more as family won't wait forever, so it's time to go home. Sam couldn't be more happy to be home with her best friend-turned-sister, Everleigh, and Hunter. Their unwavering support and determination to see her whole and healthy has been invaluable, but Sam can't help but feel she's trying to live a life that doesn't quite fit anymore. To Sam's surprise, she also finds support and understanding in a familiar, yet unexpected face. Griffin Evenson has wanted Sam from the moment he heard her laugh in his bar. Her diminutive size sparks a fierce protectiveness deep inside him that he tried to ignore once before, and he won't make that same mistake again. Now that Sam is home, he will be right by her side, supporting her, helping her heal, and loving her. Sam never expected to feel desire or want again, especially so soon after her attack, but with Griffin, her response is effortlessly natural. With things heating up with her deposition and her mind and body still working through the trauma she endured, Sam can't help but feel overwhelmed. One thing she does know is Griffin is a man in a million and her one chance to find what she thought was cruelly and without remorse, taken from her. When Sam starts receiving threats, Griffin must weigh the risk of losing Sam and their future against what he's willing to do to protect her. Sam will have to look deep within herself to sort out her emotions from her automatic responses brought on by memories of her attack. If she finds she was wrong about a man again, it may just shatter her completely with no hope of reconstruction.

I loved this book. It emotionally devastated me at times, but the overall inspiring message and strength of the characters helped to heal the temporary hurt. Samantha was an amazing and inspiring character with an inner strength that was admirable. I cannot imagine what she went through. I thought the author did an amazing job of identifying and detailing Sam's thoughts and emotions. I felt exactly what Sam felt and my heart broke for her, but she showed me just how strong and determined she was and built herself up stronger than before. Griffin was absolutely amazing. I loved him in book one, and that love only grew in this book when we got into his head and saw his actions first hand. His support and understanding was beautiful to see, and Sam deserved beauty. His struggle with how to protect Sam was enlightening, but I was cheering for him to take whatever action was necessary. Lol. Ms. Rulon made a group of characters that you can't help but love and want to get to know. They are witty, loving, a family unit, and engaging. The trials they endure are tragic and heartbreaking but they come out stronger and more cohesive for it. My favorite scene was a tie between the Malibu Barbie and hottest boyfriend scenes. I laughed until tears fell it was so funny. Genna Rulon has made me a fan, and I cannot wait to get my hands on mysterious Meg's story. <3

I was so excited to get my hands on Pieces For You after reading and loving Only For You. Pieces For You is book two in the For You series. The blurb for the books say that they can be read as stand alone novels, but I would advise you read them in order so that you completely understand how the characters came together and how the story develops. Please be aware that this series does contain and revolve around difficult sexual situations. Pieces For You is told in an alternating POV, but you get more insight from Sam with splashes of Griffin’s POV throughout the book. I couldn’t wait to see how Sam got past the hurt and pain associated with the trauma she experienced. Not to mention Griffin! The little bit we saw of Griffin in Pieces of You, you couldn’t help but love his sweet heart and want to know more about him.

As the story begins we get a glimpse into how Sam dealt with the tragedy that rocked her world and turned it inside out. Seeing her go through therapy and come out the other side attempting to be strong and move on was an amazing feat. Sam had a strong personality in book one so I had a feeling she would be able to overcome this event with most of “old sam” in tact, it was just going to take some time to get there. When Sam returns home she wants everyone to treat her like “old Sam” and not damaged “new Sam”. Most people can’t seem to stop treating her like she might break, until Griffin comes along!

“I need proof that someone who loved me before can still love me now. I’m realizing how much that asshole took from me-my choice, my power, my sense of security, and worst of all my self worth.”

Griffin is pure manly hotness! He is a snugly teddy bear at heart, but will stop at nothing to protect what he has wanted from a distance for so long - Sam! Griffin isn’t scared to tell Sam how it is, which is exactly what Sam wants and needs. Griffin and Sam start out as friends, but the sexual tension is so high I could feel it coming off my kindle! When Sam and Griffin come together the sparks fly! Griffin has a way of saying the sweetest things that make you melt.

“Lo, you could never disappoint me. If you’re honest with me and yourself, you have no reason to worry. No one’s unblemished, we all have our scars-some are just easier to hide. The right man will navigate the minefield and bring you to the other side safely. He will find a way to give you the pleasure you deserve, no matter what it takes. You are worth any effort.”

This story was truly amazing. I really felt for Sam and thought the author did a fabulous job of telling Sam’s story. Griffin and Sam together was real true love. You could feel it in your bones how much he loved her and also how much she loved him before she even knew that’s what it was.

“I love you,” I said vehemently. “I love you in a way that will never ebb or fail-it will thrive and deepen every day. I don’t want to experience life without you ever again; I don’t want to live without those pieces of me.”

This story does have an HEA and I’m sure we will see more of Sam, Griffin, Everleigh, and Hunter in book three! Book three in the For You Series is Temper For You and will tell Meg’s story, I can’t wait to see what is behind her walls that has her so closed off.
