When you can’t see yourself in the eyes of another, it’s not long before the face in your mirror looks like a stranger’s, too. It’s a truth more than one world has forgotten. In the century since the last Great War, a new technology called the Portal has placed the known universe at Earth’s doorstep. But with progress came the fear Earth’s new citizens might one day threaten the place of humankind on the planet.

Annah is a seed-maiden of the world of Evohe; a world on the edge of the known Universe, who finds herself set apart from the rest of her race. Her blue eyes, golden hair and strange, slim form mark her as different, and her peculiar ideas about exploring the Sea of Stars beyond her world distance her even further. Too, she dreams of restoring the ancient faith of the Shapers to her world—a forgotten, forbidden path that her people believe led to the ruin of Evohe—but which they have found no way to replace.

Annah aims to show them they are wrong, and to help her people find themselves, even if they shun her for it. It will take a chance meeting with a human man—one of the very people her kind fear most—to fulfill both her dream of finding a place to belong, and her dream of restoring her people to themselves.

This is Annah's story. This is the story of her mate, Gary Holder. And this is the story of the Children of Evohe.

The adventure begins now.

I am an unabashed fan of the writing of Clay Gilbert.

And man, can this guy write characters. He is exceptional with female characters in particular, and I felt myself rooting for the quest of Annah from the beginning. If there is any justice in the world, producers will look at this one for a potential film or television franchise. The author's characterizations are strong all around, and his world building is exceptional.

Annah and Gary Holder, her human mate, to me are comparable in tone to Romeo and Juliet, and other tragic or potentially tragic literary romances. There's was an accidental meeting. Annah is from the world of Evohe and she is, if not imperfect, then different. Her progressive ideas of restoring her homeworld to its former greatness are in fact built upon her thoughts of restoration, thoughts of restoring an ancient faith that many blame for destroying the soul of Evohe, but which has yet to be successfully replaced.

Why? There is clearly more to the "Shapers" than we think. Who are they? What are they? You need to read the book.

As to Annah, she has reasons for her convictions and now fights the battle of convincing the others of their potentially tragic error.

The author navigates another difficult road: He touches upon all basic emotions in the telling of his tale. As a reader, I gasped, I laughed ... I admit I even teared once or twice. Why? Clay Gilbert is that strong of a writer, and you cannot help but get behind Annah, a character who fights against all obstacles to be successful in her journey. She is resolute in her belief, which makes for many intriguing conflicts.

This is an easy 5 for me. A 5 for pacing, character and writing.

Seriously, check this one out. It's a gift.

Oh, and one more thing. The tale ends on a cliffhanger. Smart man, that Clay Gilbert.

One of my life-long goals was to meet a writer. Clay is a good friend of mine and I think this novel is excellent. Annah is a wonderful protagonist who I related to because she is an outcast. I liked the central theme of the story: that both Annah's people and humanity have drifted far from their spiritual roots and have become lost. I liked that neither race was utopic; even Annah's people were flawed. Gary was a great hero--a dreamer of days when humanity was not driven by hatred. This was a great read and I eagerly await the next installment.

***** I bring to you, once again, another book deserving of a 5 star review! Actually it is worth a lot more stars... but they won't all fit! *****

Annah is a truly magnificent story, one that had me laughing and crying many times over. I love this story. As a matter of fact, there were many times during this book that I felt like it could have been written just for me! Many times I wanted to send this author a message thanking him for writing this story that was not only entertaining but also inspired and encouraged me. I decided to wait till I was finished and write up a review instead though.

Annah's story was so good I was up all night reading!

Clay Gilbert proves himself a master story teller. While his descriptions of the worlds in his book are enthralling, my favorite part was getting to know his characters who seem to come alive on the page! Annah's world, Evohe, is described so vividly and is filled with so many exciting new things to learn about that you won't want to leave. As a matter of fact, I wanted to stay so I could become a 'shaper' myself!

You will laugh, cry, rejoice, and ache with the characters as they are all put to the test!

Are Annah and Holder meant to be together? Can their love survive when everything they have ever known is intent on ripping them apart? Can anyone survive as Earth declares war on all extraterrestrials?

Well I for one can't wait to find out! Annah is only the first part to the series and I am so anxious to find out what happens next!

-For the parents out there who read my reviews. There are two or three small but intimate scenes between the characters in the book that you may not want your younger kids to read. However, for teens, if you have allowed them to read books along the level of Twilight than this book should be right along their maturity level. All intimate scenes are handled tastefully and with respect.-

Annah: Child of Evohe is a beautifully written sci-fi novel by Clay Gilbert. Split into two parts, you almost get an Avatar vibe while reading. Annah is an outcast with not only her nearly innocent mindset of how the world should work, but with her very appearance. I only say "nearly innocent" because Annah believes in the past and searches for the old ways to help reinvigorate her world. Some would call it wearing rose-colored glasses, but others would say it is a purity of mind.

Annah's life changes when she stumbles across a human in Evohe; Gary Holder. Once a part of Homesec, Holder's mind changes after spending time under Annah's care and meeting the others in Evohe. Humans were responsible for the first war against Evohe, so Holder's presence was not welcomed at first. It was worse when Annah told the others that Holder was her mate. Things escalated more when it was discovered that Annah is one of the "Shapers" of Evohe; those who would help create and shape the world with song. And there's so much more that goes on as well. The novel is quite an adventure.

Great first book in a series

I look forward to continuing the story of Annah, Holder and Goodman. A wonderful cliffhanger at the end for all of the characters and I am anxious to find out what happens next.
