A silent star-fort is an ominous sign… But when Chaplain Rhaddecai and his Excoriators board the Semper Vigilare to investigate, they find something far more disturbing as the dead rise, human and Space Marine alike. Beset by rotting horrors and trapped in the star-fort’s depths, the Space Marines must find a way to survive, or to die with honour.

Excoriators Space Marines fighting plague zombies and disease on a lost star-port. A great dark short tale of space horror with a "Doom-meets-Dead Space" survival horror videogame atmosphere. If this e-short was a full lenght novel, this review was probably going to be a 5 stars one.

Bastion is a story following the Excoriators Chapter, Sons of Dorn who we get to are fleshed out a small amount. This is a longer story, which I think it needed, as we got to see a little bit of the culture of the Excoriators. They seemed strong willed, and their keeping things physically damaged as a reminder of failure is awesome. The story itself was interesting, having a crusade era capital ship showing up to throw everything into hell. The Excoriators sacrifice will be remembered!

The story is not bad, I really like the plot and the ending set a very sober mood. The characters are also very well fleshed out, but I would have loved to have more descriptions of the stations interior than just the gore.
Not the best space marine short story I've read, but certainly not the worst either
