Wow! I can’t believe I just finished reading this amazing novel! Loved every moment of the book. I’d re-read this book yet again just to enjoy the writing style and story all over. Alright! Let’s talk about the story.
In a city full of hidden secrets and mystery, a cop goes missing and a journalist is being abducted. “Shahid” is the journalist’s brother and he wants to find the truth about his brother or is he the one behind the missing case? There are shocking revelations put everyone in suspicion including “Shahid”. Who is the real culprit? The story and plot is exceptionally well written and well put which keeps the reader hooked to the book till the very end.
I love how the story began in full speed in the first chapter itself. You can never predict what comes next! That’s one of the most important aspect I loved about this book. I’m not some one who reads crime thriller very often mainly because of the predictability. But this book is super interesting! Compelling plot, characters with depth, and a satisfying conclusion are what make this book a great read. This is a tale of power and desire and it will leave a strong impact on you after reading. If you are a thriller lover, you should definitely read this book. Even if you are not one like me, you should read this for the brilliant narration and gripping story telling.

When Shahid Ali realises his younger brother is missing, he rushes to the police station. Luckily he meets a good police officer, Vikram Singh, who listens to him and asks the correct questions instead of neglecting his worries. When Shahid comes to know that the police were already probing into his brother's last known location for another major case, his worry multiplies and he starts searching for his brother by himself.

The story is divided into twelve chapters, where the first chapter covers the crime and is named 'Day 0'. The title of the consecutive chapters denote how many days have passed since then. So, when I knew that the case would be closed in just 7 days, I guessed that the story would be fast-paced and thrilling. Shahid's actions over the course of the week seemed foolish at times, but what can one expect from someone who lost their only family? Following the case was an experience. The twists and turns were very unexpected, which kept me at the edge of my chair. The story also takes a philosophical turn at some places, which gives it a nice touch. And the way the book ends is amazing! Even if I were given a hundred chances, I wouldn't have guessed it right. The poem on the last page adds a beautiful touch to the end of the story, and I read it so many times! I absolutely love the book, and I recommend this to all crime story lovers.

By Hook Or By Crook is author Abhishek Sinha's debut novel and is an interesting crime thriller. The story revolves around Shahid, the main protagonist, as he tries to find his brother. Shahid's brother is a journalist and has been missing. While the police do not immediately agree to look for him, it soon becomes clear that an on-going police investigation is linked intricately to Shahid's brother's disappearance. And thus begins a race against time to uncover the truth.
We are introduced to various characters who help to drive the plot along. However, I felt that some of the main characters were lacking in depth and a little more back story could have been provided. It is not as easy to connect with the characters in the story.
This story reads like a police procedural to some extent and shows the reader that the author has done his due diligence to get the details right. It was interesting to read the inner workings of the police force and how they go forward with their investigation. On the other hand, Shahid is an interesting character who is extremely resourceful while at the same time giving life to the words that a person will do anything for family.
On the whole, I enjoyed reading this book mainly for the way the plot plays out and for some of the unexpected twists and turns. The author delivers an ending that is quite unexpected but which definitely makes reading this book worthwhile.

After a long time I read a thriller that had me totally invested in its storyline and characters.
The narrative is engrossing and the situations and settings created by the author so deliciously intriguing that I couldn't help but complete the book in just two days.
I wouldn't want to talk much about the plot as I don't want to give out any spoilers but I'll say this much that there are some unexpected twists and turns and the book leads you to places that you wouldn't envisage when beginning to read it.

Captivating storyline and character growth without breaking the suspence about who is that police officer involved with arm deal, hats off. The appreciation for this book goes to it's magnetic attraction created by Sinha's narrative style. Though in third person narration, the accuracy of words painted the characters, events and situations on the canvas infront of reader's eyes. There should not be any spoilers here as this book demands a reader who experiences the story by person. I fully recommend this book to who ever is reading this review.

A few pages in the novel and it becomes gripping. Shahid begins investigation at his own. However, little did he know that the world he is fighting against has already trapped him?

Though Shahid and Vikram are the main leading detective type figures, yet in a crime thriller what seems right can also mislead. To start on a positive note, By Hook or by Crook’s setting is a nice change of scenery for me and I would have loved more details in that regard. I also appreciate that the ending is unexpected and feel that it is a nice payoff for having read the story in its entirety.
I would love nothing better than to champion a new author, but this was a difficult read. The book was severely hampered by its sentence structures. The first half is hobbled by lengthy digressions which seem pretty common sense and unnecessary. There are instances of not having a strong enough grasp on English phraseology such as “the fingers in his toes” and “orange, pinhole-sized ball” (in reference to a lit cigarette), which sent the wrong visual. The second half of the book sees the sentences become a little clearer but still not very enjoyable to read.
Another gripe is that the antagonist, during an especially tense situation, takes the time to over-explain to the protagonist all of the details of the criminal web he wove. Very unrealistic. There are better ways to let the reader in on the underlying truths.

Lately, I've not been giving much attention to thrillers because of the same stale treatment of plots as compared to the classics we have grown up with. But I gave this one a try seeing a social media post, and really glad that I did. It has the old world charm of traditional detective novels combined with exciting action packed 'chor-police' Bollywood drama. This would really do well as a web series as it has cinematic quality in the storytelling.
The prologue starts with a bang and after that it has one false clue after the other in the breathless game of investigation as more skeletons stumble out of the closet. One keeps guessing till the end!
The last chapter "Everybody knows" leaves a lasting impression as one ponders the futility of our lives spent in designing our careers, choosing our peace, and spending moments with our loved ones, when everything is at the mercy of those in power. What we hold dear isn't worth a penny to the pestilence of corruption, and our lives can change in a second based on someone's whims. I suggest reading this novel on a weekend evening or during a journey.

The story starts with attention grabbing scene that progresses at a gripping pace, holding you hostage. You can't help but turn the pages to know what happens next. Shahid was my favorite and the central character of this story. And I must say, Vikram was not far behind.
What I love the most about this fictional account is the fact that how eerily real it is. Life is not fair, and the good guy doesn't always win. Doing the right thing doesn't pay off most of the time and trying to be a hero leads to nowhere. Perhaps an early grave.

Abhishek Sinha definitely looks like an experienced writer but when I visited his amazon profile I came to see who is a first time author. So, this definitely is a good book.
Let's talk about Shahid Ali, the book starts with him being a corporate employee but after each chapter his chapter development was great. Coming to the writing style, the way each chapter is written is idk how to explain but my excitement to finish the book with each chapter increased. The question of what's next made me finish this book in just one day.

Excellent plot, if I were to summarise how I felt about this book. The story is expertly served with the ideal balance of mystery, danger, and intrigue combined with plot twists and reflective elements thanks to Abhishek Sinha's amazing writing.
As the protagonist Shahid looks for his brother, a journalist, he gets entangled in a web of intrigue and suspicion. The startling disclosures cast doubt on every known fact as he works his way through the intricate web of deceit and treachery to clear his identity.
Characters with depth that had me turning the pages nonstop. I was riveted by the story because it was so expertly handled and had so many unexpected turns. Not only did I read this book, but I was gripped by the story right up until the very end!

This book has a cast of characters as multifaceted as the intricate plot itself. Each character is a puzzle piece in this gripping crime thriller, and Abhishek Sinha masterfully peels back the layers of their personalities as the story progresses. Abhishek breathes life into his characters, making them feel like real individuals with their own secrets and moral dilemmas. It's their complexities and inner conflicts that drive the narrative forward, leaving readers captivated by the psychological depth of the characters as much as by the unfolding mystery. There's a lot to like in this book from the settings to the narrative style and the pacing but what will simply take your breath away are the twists (and there are several). It's a brilliantly written book with complex characters and an engaging storyline and it definitely deserves to be read. Fully recommended.
