While I still very much like the story, there were some images in this volume that leaned into the sort of antisemitic iconography that I would like not to see again. It may have been intentional as part of the racism/intolerance storyline, but it's also too loaded for me personally. If I never see another clearly Semitic stereotype with a giant hooked nose, it'll be too soon.
I didn't like this one as much as the last, maybe cuz I was confused with all the characters and I found Medina's part long and her character dislikeable.
Anyway, so the little floating girl is just walking around the grounds and disappearing and whatever in the beginning. I don't think students have met her yet if I remember correctly. Theo saw her and suggested they become language buddies cuz she can't talk.
Then we have this whole part about Medina and how she has pressure to show everybody up because she is of Asin(?) faith and think she's better than everybody and her family are assholes to her. She doesn't want to team up with Cat girl (Ohgga?) and Theo even though all three have a hard time passing tests. Then she gets pissed and destroys books and Theo tells her off and they all finally work together and pass.
Oh and also he has a mark on his forehead and because of it he was rejected by his people even though it can heal. So that's why he ended up adopted.
Then we have this whole mystery about Sophie Schwimm and why she is writing all night and why she gets special treatment from supervisor Edan (devil horn guy) . Her roommate Tutull tells others and they bribe her into finding out if Sophie is a hidden supervisor. She stops herself from looking at the writing and Sophie sees her and shows her, it's a novel manuscript. Everyone reads it and they all think it's weird and makes no sense, but the Pop Lit club likes it anyway and Theo feels like it is familiar.
We see Sophie meet with a man and give him illustrations. Turns off she is secretly a famous author Cudot-Vorec Illeyad and some people like Edan know it. Seems she likes to hide herself in different places and identities to write her stories.

Read 1-6, but counting it as 1 book (this is my own personal rule of manga series can be counted as 1 book if read at least 6 volumes. If you want to count it as each individual book, go for it, this is just my own thing). If you love books and everything about them, please read this series.
It needs more love and it's jaw dropping gorgeous with the art.
I do have hang ups with it when faced with a villain they're usually POC and at one point had dreads. Like, don't introduce one of the first villains of the series in dreads, sends a bad picture. I would have liked if the MC was POC but I understand if that was going to be a hard sell to a xenophobic market and you had to clickbait them. The rest of the manga is filled with POC characters and it's not done horribly either. Other than that, I'm happy to see brown POCs represented in a series that has nothing to do with the usual brown people stereotypes. Some exist but Izumi creates a unique world where you can tell she's actually trying her best to be respectful and I applaud her for that.
This series needs way more love than it gets and if you need a new series to take up your time and find a new fixation, this is it.
While I didn't quite enjoy it as much as the other volumes, I found it pleasant to read. This Volume focused a lot on racism, intolerance and religions and while I was relieved that something like that is discussed (even if it is in a different form, with religions that are made up for a fantasy world), I found it also infuriating with the illustrations. The arc with Medina dragged a lot, I found her character despicable and I got bored after some time. The mark that Shio has on his forehead was quite interesting to read about: people despised him because of it even though it could heal. Sedona made an appearance again and now I'm interested to continue reading this particular story. The other person who was with Sedona mentioned that a lot of people would be after the book he gave to Shio and now I'm interested as to why. Also, it turns out that Sofi is a famous writer who publishes her books under a pseudonym. I'm more shocked about the fact that she is 35 years old... Overall it was nice but I do have some problems with it.

I wish Tei was in it more, I can't wait till she can join the rest of the Kafna.
I'm not sure I like that Medina seems to be becoming friends with Theo and Oggha.....I know they want to be friends with everyone but Medina is a entitled jerk. I'm glad she got told that she was there because of her father, it was a nice wake up call.
Yay! They finished their tests!!
Is Sedona a bad guy....? Or on Theos side...? I hope Theo and Sedona won't end up in opposing sides at some point.
So Sophie is a famous children's author that likes to kind of "method act" in order to write better and writes with a pen name! Awesome!

This Volume was good, but ended up like a middle-sort of Volume. The Kafna students are still going through their training, but most of this Volume focuses on Theo, Ohgga, and Medina and their ability to be able to complete their classwork on time. When they are able to overcome, their teacher increases the length of the assignments by 10%. I feel like something big has to come soon. Maybe even a villain. We saw some stirrings here with the book that Theo got being something of great importance. Recommend! Not for everyone, but as a librarian IRL, I love it.
This was just as interesting as the other books in this series.
I liked geeting to know more about some of the Kafna trainees and some of their back stories.
Theo continues to amaze me in how open minded he is about so many people, even those who treat him unkindly. When a particularly mean classmate has a breakdown, he doesn't hesitate to offer encouragement and even surprises this classmate by revealing a secret about a scar that he received as a baby that helps open this classmate's viewpoint somewhat.
This was an exceptional volume! We see further character development from the trio, and we see more of the supporting character Sophie. If you haven't picked up Magus of the Library by now, definitely do so!
Again a really nice tome! I really love Sophie, Theo and other characters even though I have difficulty to differentiate a couple of them 😅 The world building throughout is great.
I love how this series brings to the forefront the valuable role that libraries and librarians have. I also love the teaching aspect because I feel inspired to be and learn more.
