This was just the jolt I needed! Mary Ting offers us mythology fans her own electrifying spin on Demi-God Greatness filled with suspense, comedy, romance, & mystery! I am officially a From Gods' Fan!! Can. Not. Wait. For. More.
I appreciate that this was NOT a classic fairy tale where the characters immediately fall in love & live happily ever after. Of course on the "last page" I wanted to tear up wondering how long we would have to wait for the next book...but I was overjoyed when I realized there was an Epilogue!!! That was the perfect ending! I love these characters, & will be ready & waiting for the next book in this series!

CLIFF HANGER.

So, for those who do not know I love books with GREEK MYTHOLOGY in them. This book, From Gods is about Demi Gods in a modern world after the real greek Gods have died. It follows Sky who meets a group of mysterious boys... who turn out to be the offspring of Zeus... Funny thing, she also is pretty special.

I really enjoyed the action scenes in this book, it was never boring. I loved the unique powers the characters had. AND THAT ENDING REALLY MESSED ME UP....LIKE WHAT
Another amazing book by the Goddess herself, Mary Ting.

I really liked this book.

It starts off with Skylar Rome at 8 years old. Her father has just left her and her mom, for reasons unknown. She is heartbroken and her dad becomes dead to her.

Years later, she graduates high school and goes to spend the summer with her cousin Kayla.

While visiting, she meets Mason,
male model photo: male model tumblr_llz718ICug1qf311so1_500.jpg

and the rest of the Grand Brothers. Super hot, each with their own personality. One of the brothers Nick, Funny, care free guy starts up a little fling/relationship with Kayla. It's cute.

While Skylar wants Mason, and Mason wants her, He acts like a jerk and tries to push her away. BLAH BLAH we have heard that before. Tension between the two.
kristen and robert kiss photo: Robsten Kiss Edward-Bella-twilight-guys-5092828-1280-800.jpg

But that isn't what this story is mainly about!!!

Something is up with those Grand brothers. Mason especially, but WHAT? dun dun duhhhhhhhh

Creatures keep popping up everywhere trying to kill Skylar, and who is always there to save her..... Yup. MASON!!!

The world she knows is not the one she lives in.
greek gods photo: Gods on Olympus Greek-Gods.jpg

The gods and goddess's of olympus are dead. People stopped believing in them and they died. They knew this would happen so they GOT BUSY!!!

Make lots and lots of babies to keep their lines going.

But the real question is who is Skylar Rome? Why is everyone wanting to kill her... AHHH WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!!!

You will find out, and the mystery of the will Mason ever get over his issues to be with Skylar.

The story ends nicely, you know there is more but you feel complete...
Until the Epilogue.....

I was so sad when Mary's Crossroads series was over. It was beautifully written and kept me glued to my kindle. To be honest, I was afraid that this series might not be able to live up to the expectations I had. It is not often that an author can have a series I devour and then start a completely new series and have it not disappoint me. Well, Mary Ting managed to actually surpass my expectations. This book was amazing!

With a YA feel, but NA age characters, From Gods had me glued to my kindle. I am a sucker for ancient Gods in modern times stories and this was a fresh twist on that. Mason is mysterious, a bit too serious, and beyond swoon worthy. Skylar is likable, a bit spunky, far tougher then even she realizes with a touch of insecurity that makes her endearing. The two together discover that she too is a mystery, even to herself. Action packed with new lore and a romantic undercurrent, this book is an amazing start to a very promising series.

From Gods takes mythology to a whole new level of imagination with its incredible plot and amazing characters. Its full of hotness that you never want to end! Michele, Insane About Books

Who doesn't love Greek mythology?

So, I am not going to give out any more information in my review than what the Synopsis and teaser provides. However, I will tell you how much this story rocked with all the action, hot guys, and mystery of the demi gods.

From Gods pulls you into the story with a force of gravity that can not be denied. It possesses all the elements of a great young adult novel..adventure, mystery, mythology, and romance. It's magnetism will hold your interest from the first to the very last sentence. The characters are charismatic, each with individual personalities. The storyline is unique and adventurous with twists and turns throughout the narrative plot. And I haven't even mentioned Mason. Yeah, Mason and his hot brothers... Let's just say that Michael Crossroads Saga) has some competition now for book boyfriend..however, not only with the action and intense story, there's humor and fun thrown in as well. It's the whole package.

It's been a month since I've finished this book and I still can't get over the fuckery I've read so lets rant, shall we?

We're following Skylar and a few other annoying teenagers in a world of Greek God descendants, meaning they're somehow magical. Skylar is a dumbass so she went 18 years without realising she has some sort of sparkly power of Gods and one day, while she's visiting her cousin Kayla, she meets these strange boys.

BAM! INSTANT LOVE!

Even though those boys are annoying and actual asses, both Skylar and Kayla see them as a piece of meat so they eventually start "dating" and Skylar realises they're the descendants of Edward Cullen and sparkle in the sunlight (I mean, not really, but their powers are as shitty) and that she's just like them. And that's when things get spicy. (As spicy as a cooked potato with no actual spices)

Her house was broken into and she was almost killed a few times but who cares about that? She has a super hot bofriend! She literally doesn't spend a minute thinking about this whole new world she's being introduced to, she doesn't spend a minute thinking about the fact that she almost died, the only thing on her mind is her annoying ass boyfriend and how PERFECT he is. Not to even mention that this book is 317 pages long and only 50-80 were used for some kind of action.

Kayla is a definition of a shitty cousin. When she and Skylar go out, she leaves her alone with strangers they met 2 days ago because of booty call.

Those boys, Mason and his brother whose name I forgot because he was THAT important to me, are seen as these broken creatures who suffered a lot(or at least that's what the author was going for). However, they are not broken, they're stupid.

My main problem with this book is actually the fact that characters are so dumb and unbearably annoying. I don't understand why grown ups are trying to write young adult characters by making them "goofy" stupid and irritating, booty obsessed etc. But like, have you been around the last few decades? We fight for our rights, we protest inequality and injustices, we do many things. We are not just relationship obsessed small humans with no brain.

Above all that, writing style was not even decent, I predicted everything that happened which wasn't hard because NOT MUCH ACTUALLY HAPPENED, the conversations were cringy and almost every page made me roll my eyes. Thinking about it now, I'm glad they didn't get stuck in the back of my head.
So at around 15% I started rooting for the bad guys and I still stand by it.

Awesomeness!!

I received an ARC copy of Mary Ting’s From Gods and I’m so glad I did.
This book is a different genre then the Crossroad’s Saga Series she’s known for.
It is “electric” as it blends paranormal romance, mythology (which I love), action and suspense together for an amazing read.

Skylar Rome wants to spend the summer with her cousin, Kayla before heading off to college in the fall. Her path crosses with Mason Grand and his brothers. From that moment on strange events start happening that she can’t explain but swoon worthy Mason is always there to save the day. Skylar’s attraction to him is like she’s been hit by lightning. Could it be because he’s a descendant of Zeus?

This book is definitely a page turner and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. All I can say is Mary Ting you’ve done it again! This book exceeded my expectations, I was literally blown away. My question is how long do I have to wait for the sequel?

Beautiful!
"“I’ll always stare at you, Sky,” he said softly."

Grazie!

A story that is Electrifying with love. Get ready to be Shocked!
From Gods is a story about the descendants of the Greek gods.
Skylar Rome is a young girl fresh out of high school and on her way to spend the summer with her cousin Kayla before she heads to collage. Little did she know that her life was about to change the minute she enter the town where her cousin lives. Their plan to spend the summer at the beach change, Kayla was told by her mother that she needed her at the diner instead. Seeing that she was upset about it Skylar decided to help too.
Working at the diner was a new experience for Skylar and soon thereafter they meet the Grand brothers, one in particular Mason Grand. From there on things start to get weird around Skylar unexplainable things happen. There is evil luring around trying to take Skylar away, and Mason is always there to swoon in to her rescue.
Although Mason is most of the time rude and cold with Skylar he can’t help but feel something for her and Skylar immediately feel a spark for him, but has a hard time getting to his heart.
Will he let her into his heart? Will she give up on him?
From Gods gets 5 starts from me!
Mary Ting you’ve done it again and I can’t wait for the next book.

'I have received an ARC from the author in return of an honest review.'

OMLightning bolts! Mary Ting has done it again. I have to say that I absolutely love everything about this book from the heart wrenching prologue to the cliff-hanger of an epilogue. It takes Greek mythology to a whole other level and then some. Try to imagine what it would be like in this modern day to be a demi-God and have to keep it a secret. Only thing is one person can't be charmed to keep secrets and you can't figure out why; all the while being chased by freakishly strong and scary creatures that want you and everyone else close to you dead. That's what you'll experience while reading this exciting new page turner of a story, 'From God's' by Mary Ting. It has action, adventure, humor, twists and turns, romance and heart-break....it has it all. If you haven't read it yet then hurry up and get it now...you won't regret it. I'm just waiting for it to come out on the big screen. Job well done Mary Ting!

INITIAL THOUGHTS
I'm slightly worried as I pick up my kindle to read this, I mean I loved the Crossroads Saga, will I like this too? Will it be as good? My thoughts at 14% "Liking this already" Then at 51% my thoughts were "Definitely warming to the characters of Kayla, Skylar & Mason (loved those two from the beginning of the book) and Nick too. What on earth or descended from heaven is Skylar?

MY REVIEW
So the story is that Skylar's dad walked out of her life when she was very young, her mother prefers to not speak about him so he is somewhat of a taboo subject. Skylar hates to be reminded of him so no one call's her Sky anymore as that's what he always called her. So Skylar is going to her Aunt Kelly's to be with her cousin Kayla for the summer break. Upon arriving at aunt Kelly's she learns that her aunt is short of waitresses at the cafe/diner she owns, so Kayla has been coerced into working at the diner. Skylar immediately volunteers to help out too, as she would just be stuck alone otherwise, plus she is the kind of girl that would want to help out her family too. Both girls get really into working at the diner and get along with Jack the cook, and Mona the other waitress. Then of course they see some good looking guys. I'll let you discover how they meet etc by reading the book, as I prefer not to give too much detail. Anyhow it turns out the gorgeous "brothers" Mason, Nick, Remus & Everett are quite different to other guys as they are in fact descendants from the Gods. They seem puzzled by Skylar and they think she too could be a descendant from the Gods when Hades Vultures go after her too. However she turns out to be something quite dangerous to the Grand brothers. In fact she quite accidentally kills one of them when he attacks her. I won't say how Skylar is special or how she kills the errant brother but she does it so unintentionally. When she realises her "power" and that she can kill the guys she wants to keep her distance but they won't allow it, in fact Mason actually seems to care about her. Obviously Kayla is crushing on Nick and Skylar has a soft spot for Mason. Mason keeps his remaining brothers in the dark about exactly what happened when Skylar killed one of them. As the only true full human Kayla also has to be kept in the dark somewhat too.
The remaining Grand brothers,Everett, Mason & Nick with "cousin" Amanda, Kayla & Skylar take a trip to another dimension, to Olympus to seek answers as to what Skylar actual is. They receive the answer but Mason swears Sklyar to silence. A descendant from God by the name of Alena is trying to kidnap Skylar to use her power to kill other Demi Gods.
There's mythology, action, drama, teenage angst and love against the odds in this latest offering form Mary Ting. My expectations were high when I began reading having read and loved the Crossroads Saga. I really loved the characters and wanted the girls to be happy with Nick and Mason. Poor Skylar doesn't even know she is "special" to begin with. she also thinks she has a stalker, who turns out to be helpful when her and Mason were being chased.
I also like the two male characters introduced towards the latter part of the book, Noah and Tim. In fact I think Noah's name is so appropriate! and I kind of think he may be a bit of competition for Skylar's attentions, so Mason better watch out!
So did I enjoy the book? Yes, I really enjoyed it. Would I recommend the book? Yes, if you loved the Crossroads Saga you will love this even though it's different. (That will make sense when you read it!) Mary Ting does "love against the odds" fantastically well.
Would I read a book two in this series? Oh, definitely. I'm addicted to this series already! Would I read other books by Mary Ting? I already did with the Crossroads Saga but I'd give any Mary Ting book a go really.

Here's what I don't quite understand about this book, and the reviews on it.

HOW AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT HATED THIS THING????

I scrolled quickly through the reviews, to see if anyone else rated this low, but it turns out there's only one review at the very bottom, and I'm pretty sure that was a 2 star rating because this "wasn't their cup of tea."

I'm a little livid.

This book had so much potential. I love mythology stories, and this one had all the makings for an awesome one.

I had one problem: EVERYTHING.

1. Skylar. Really? Really. She's horrendous. She's boring and lame and petty and who thinks about such stupid things? Her house was broken into and all she could think about was Mason. She almost drowned and all she could think about was Mason. Mason Mason MASON. First of all, girl, Mason isn't great (in this rant I'll actually complain about him, so he's my #2 problem). He impersonated a cop (which is against the law if anyone was curious...), he lied to her about who he was, tried to pretend nothing was going on, lied to her again, left her unconscious on the beach, was a jerk to her, lied to her, oh wait, and I think there was one more thing? He lied. There we go.

2. Kayla. You're a shitty cousin.

3. TEENAGERS. DO. NOT. TALK. LIKE. THIS. You know what? Humans don't talk like this. No one in this book spoke like a regular person. the conversations were so stilted and awkward I was CRINGING. Why couldn't they seem to have normal conversations? Why was everything so lame and hokey?

WHY DOES THIS WHOLE BOOK SUCK SO BAD? If I could, I'd rate this -5 stars.

Fast-paced drama from Mary Ting with a twist. From Gods was suspenseful with the fun YA touch we have come to know and love from her. This is a tale where all is not what it seems and the characters hide secrets about their past (and their powers), that keep the reader turning pages. This is something sure to please with a hint of things to come from the next installment. Looking forward to more.

Check out the full blog tour post with giveaway and teaser: http://www.onceuponatwilight.com/2013...

At a Glance:
From Gods is a modern take in Greek mythology, gods and their offsprings. Skylar is about to start her freshman year at college but before that she stays with her cousin and meets a group of really hot guys that come into the dinner that they are working in for a few weeks. One of these guys happens to be a young cop or so Skylar thinks is the same cop to be told by the guy that he isn't. This meeting if you call it that sets into motion events that will shed to light a truth that had been kept secret. Will an Oracle's prophecy stay true to what she sees? Or will those affected change what is doomed to happen.

Cover:
For an indie/self published book cover From Gods does stand out above others in its category. I liked how they infused the woods in the back with the lighting that has its reference in the story.

Action:
In the beginning stages of the story it's not so much about action as to the mystery that takes place that causes some thrills. You are figuring things out alongside Skylar and finally when things come to light the action takes center stage throughout the rest of the novel.

Romance:
Hmm, was their romance? Throughout the book it was more like desire and curiosity for me. When it finally became romance I felt it was a little bit rushed but definitely intense it was. The kind that would cause static electricity!

Heroine:
Skylar can sort of claim this title but I wanted more from her. I felt she thought to much instead of listening to her heart and truly becoming a hero. Truth be told I'm still a little on the fence with Skylar, I'm hoping in the sequel she will win me over finally and get me on Team Skylar plus I'm excited to know more about her family history.

Hero:
Without a doubt Mason, yes he is a descendant from a god and yes he is hot but that doesn't rule his actions and he went against walls he formed to protect himself and his family because he saw a need to save the one that might be the end to all of his kind. He used his heart and it me that's a hero.

Somethings I loved:
Greek mythology! It's high up on my list of favorites. I will read anything involving the Gods and the mythology surrounding them. I also loved the Olympus Mary created in From Gods it was very easy to picture and basque in its beauty.

Somethings I disliked:
Yes here comes a little negative news and I just struggled a little with the pace at times and this is probably only going to affect me and those who got to read an advance copy, the font was too large and I could not change it and this cause distractions and even loss of my place on the page. But I asked that you ignore that comment and read From Gods, Mary Ting is a fantastic writer. I just prefer to read eBooks in a really small font so again this is just a personal preference of mines and really shouldn't affect others when they read the final edition of From Gods.

Cliffhanger:
Oh yea and a big one. Mary Ting sure knew how to play the cards on the table with the cliffhanger she produced. Leaves you needing to know what happened next after that ending, seriouly that was crazy-good. Mary I hope your busy working on the sequel because you just can't leave your fans hanging like that.

Would I recommend it:
Yes I would and I would also say to add Mary Ting to your reading list. I personally have enjoyed reading every single one of her books to date.

Well I definitely didn’t expect that! What a brilliant teen paranormal adventure and possible romance this novel turned out to be - absolutely riveting! Take a dose of mythology, add in suspense, romance and mystery and you are definitely in for an action packed thriller in this well crafted story,

The story starts when 8 year old Skylar Rome’s father has left and she is so upset by this. He isn’t dead, that she could accept, but he’s left her life. He used to call her Sky, now no one is allowed to do so. It then continues with the older Sklyar who has gone to stay with her Aunt and cousin, Kayla. It is working in her aunt’s diner that she meets Mason Grand and his brothers. They are mutually attracted but he’s desperately trying to resist, so much so that he’s often downright rude. It is only when danger threatens that he comes to her rescue and secrets from mythology start to be revealed. It is also when shocking paranormal powers, more superpower allies and enemies are encountered and mythical creatures become part of her reality. As she tries to discover what all this means, there are far more shocking revelations to come.

This is a fast paced, action packed young adult novel, a mix of mystery, thriller, paranormal, mythology and romance that is superbly crafted making this an enthralling read. It has great characters, with believable teen interactions and incredible otherworldly encounters. It had me totally enthralled from start to finish! Whilst this book does resolve some issues, it still ends on a dramatic cliffhanger, one that means now I can’t wait to read more in this brilliant series.

Thanks to the author, publishers and Barclay Publicity, too, for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.

The story of two cousins spending their last summer together before starting college. They are supposed to enjoy the sun, the beach and , of course, watching boys!
The Mason brothers, each and every one of them as gorgeous as a god, but something is just a bit off about them.
One of the cousins will fall in love, the other will discover the secrets of the Mason boys.

I had to grind through this book just to get through it. I skim read the last 16% of the book just so I could move on to another book. I felt like big events in the book were ignored a lot and not taken as seriously as it should've been. SPOILER ALERT

She almost got raped by the love interests half brother and then she killed him. when the lover found out he said he didn't like that brother anyway and then continued to flirt with her AND SHE FLIRTED BACK!?
I'm sorry but if that had just happened then I feel like she'd be a bit more stirred up than getting over it the next day.

In a nutshell I felt like it was written by a 12 year old, the romance was caked on and made me a little sick towards the end. I also didn't believe the romance and frankly really didn't enjoy this book.

I loved From Gods so much, I spent every waking moment I had (while I wasn’t working of course.) devouring this book!

Why I loved it:

The story is both original and reminds me of Twilight at the same time.

Romance & love is the central element here, what I LOVED was that it felt real. Their feelings for each other slowly built up in a realistic way throughout the book. Lots of swoon worthy moments that had me smiling!

"He interweaved his fingers through hers, guiding her to his car, and for the third time, he held her hand as if it had always belonged there."

The Feels! The main character Skylar has been through so much. You can feel her emotion pour from the pages...

“They say time heals all wounds. It doesn’t. It just patches a broken heart. It doesn’t get any easier over time. You just learn to live with the pain.”

The genre- It falls somewhere in between young-adult and new-adult, with the sub genre being fantasy, romance and mythology! (It’s all clean.)
Skylar is at the pivotal age where she’s just getting ready to start college and enter adulthood,we get to see her character develop in many different ways throughout the story.

The Mythology- I loved the original take on Greek Mythology in this one, I’ve never read another mythology book quite like this one!

The Mystery- As it states in the summary, Skylar’s life pretty much turns into one big giant mystery. Don’t worry, she finds out quite a bit but there’s new questions to be answered for book two!

"Being curious idiots, we decided to risk our lives to find the answer."

The Characters- Not only did I love Skylar and Mason but the secondary characters as well! In fact, they were written so well and are set up in a way where I could see some of them having their own books later on!

The Ending- Even though this is a series I love the way Mary Ting wrapped everything up oh so nicely...until the last page that is! There’s nothing like that last second twist to make you want to read the next book right away!

All that being said, I’m kicking myself for not reading this book sooner! (It came out in 2013.)

I will be starting book two From Deities tonight! I am so excited, it has an 4.23 rating on Goodreads! Mary Ting is now an auto buy author for me!

My review:

I think many readers who love Mary Ting's Crossroads Saga were curious to see, if they will love From Gods us much, because the expectations were high. I am no different, I was little afraid, if Fro Gods would be as good. It was was!

First of all, let me say, that I love Greek mythology and I tend to be quite critical on fantasy books based on Greek mythology. But Mary Ting delivered again! Not only that, but she created an interesting and well-written world which kept surprising me.

Plot:

Skylar is going to visit her cousin before attending a freshman year in the college. As usually, she visits her cousin and best friend Kayla and aunt Kelly. This summer is turning to be different from others.

On her way driving to her cousin, Skylar is stopped by police. At least, it seems to be the police. When Skylar starts working at the diner her aunt owns, the hot policeman shows up in the diner. The only weird thing is, that he is not a police and he claims, they have never met before. Skylar is disappointed, but the faith has other plans for both of them.

After Mason saves her life on the beach and Skylar sees creatures she never knew existed, the story takes a turn. Mason tells her the truth about who he and his brothers are. The only mystery remaining is, who is Skylar? Why does she see the creatures? Why is there electricity between them? Who are her parents?

I have to admit, that I had to raise my eyebrow more than once while reading, especially on the first part of it, being sceptical and thinking how does she author explains this or that. But the story fells to its place and makes sense the longer in you come to the story. It is a fresh view on the descendants of the Greek gods and I loved it!

Characters:

Skylar is quite a cautious and conservative young woman in my opinion. She sensed danger and had a strong intuition towards people causing her harm. I liked that she was not a right out kick-ass heroine and loved, that she was a strong and brave young woman.

My favorite supportive characters in the book are Nick and Kayla. I loved the dynamics between them.

Generally:

I highly recommend From Gods by Mary Ting. Read it! It's worth of your time for sure!

Our childhood is a vital moment in anyone’s life. It the decisions and experiences as children that will forever etch us to grow into the individuals we are destined to be. When a tragic moment during Skylar Rome’s childhood forced her to believe that her father abandoned her and her mother, she never expected that life would change so dramatically eighteen years later.

During the summer before her first year of college Skylar visited her cousin and best friend Kayla. Everything seemed it would be a summer to remember; but when two gorgeous guys came into the diner, little did they know that these two mysterious men would forever change their lives.

Mason knows that Skylar is different but can’t figure out how. Little did Mason know, that pulling over Skylar to investigate this young woman would reveal answers his family have long waited. But when he finds out who Skylar really is, will he stay or will he do what is required for him and his family to survive.

Pick up the book today and find out!!

Uh!Don't understand how this book has such a high rating. I thought it was really immature and annoying. Firstly, nothing seems to phase these girls. Skylar almost dies like three time in three days but she just gets up the next day and goes back to her waitress job like nothing happened. Then the whole Remus thing that totally bugged me. Its just seemed I don't know, fake I guess which is an odd thing to say while reviewing a fantasy book, but it did it just seemed fake. I couldn't continue long after that point. If I could give this book zero stars I would.
