Other girls know how to interest boys...how to make them laugh...how to be casual and smart. Christy never knows what to say or how to say it when she's with a boy. Being a new girl in town doesn't make it any easier!
Then she meets Mike, one of the cutest boys at school. Can someone like Mike really be interest in her? Is he being kind or is it because he's just broken up with Jill? If only there was a way to know if someone really loves you...
I gave this a 4 because for the kind of book that it is then it deserves a 4. If I were to compare it to a different kind of novel it may have been rated lower. This was written in a more innocent time. Teenagers were always good kids who did what their parents wanted. When they did something even remotely wrong they felt guilty. Sex was left until they were older(unless this was Judy Blume in one book!) and love almost always wins. I have read this book bi yearly for years and I still like it. Christy is a sweet and rather normal girl. She is not beautiful, not ugly just normal and she falls in love with a normal boy whom she thinks is perfect. Of course there is the "bad" girl ex and lots of misunderstandings but in the end things work out. It's nice sometimes to disappear in a more innocent time once in a while.
I read most of this series 30 some years ago while in jr high. I don’t think I was able to find the 4th one back then. I spend years trying to remember who wrote this so I could read them all including the last one. Now as I read it again I can remember exactly what I was done while reading it as a young girl. My 15 year old daughter wants to read it next because it show’s teenagers from a different time.
As so many have already stated, there was no plot or tension in this story. I bought it because I am building back my collection of 80s YA romances that I had as a child before my mother threw them away behind my back. I read this out of nostalgia, and I do believe the other following books after this one improved. This first book in the Christy series felt like the reader was reading the character's diary. The whole plot was: Am I Mike's girl or not?
3.5 stars There was a lovely sense of nostalgia that ran throughout this story. I did wish that Christy had shown a little more agency. She was so passive that it got a bit frustrating at times.
It starts in a good way giving you the feeling that its hiding something good for you .. but I found out that its useless and pointless novel ! the auther didnt even mention what happened between Mike and his ex-girlfriend ! nothing great I had found in this novel .. I just kept reading to know the end and Dah ! it was nothing ! the whole novel is about when will Mike tell Christy that she is his girl !
sorry for such a review but I felt that I had wasted my time .. Thanks all ways, .. :)
