The Godhunter #6

A Taste For Blood

Rate this book
Book Six in the Godhunter Series:
Vervain Lavine has been through Hell. Two Hells actually, one of which has banned her from ever returning. Despite all that, things are going pretty well for the Godhunter. At least they were until she turned on the news.
Crops across America are dying, children in Hawaii are missing, and havoc is being wrecked upon her nightclub, Moonshine. It's obviously God messing with her again but which one is it this time? There's so many gods who want her dead these days.
Then one wrong word sends her tumbling into the wrong realm, a strange place filled with stranger beings who seem to hold the answers to her past. With the promise of a new life lingering like the taste of blood on her lips, Vervain must decide what she values more, the life she's built with the men she loves, or the call of the blood.

I love this series, but enough to w/the raping Please!!!

I love, love, love this series !! And I. Thrilled to a) discovered it and b) to discovered it soo late where there are 18 books to read and catch up w/ it's like a book lovers dream come true to find not only a series to enjoy but such a l o n g one at that. One you enjoy soo much your already a bit sad knowing you ONLY have 11 more to go ;) at least at this present time... But al, that said ENOUGH!!! ENOUGH!!! ENOUGH PLEASE w/the raping and mind raping etc. PLEASE!!!! rape in a book is hard enough to handle but the is it or you s it not rape ? The F'ing w/her mind just to add another man to her life ?!?!? I'm mean WTF?!?!? 1st the kidnaping and mind rape w/Blue and the almost same but much, much worse w/Anubis and now even worse w/Arach ,seriously !!'
WTF?!?!? And what's worse there's always some BS way they are are almost forgive, I mean Blue is now her friend, now that they are past him forgiving her for not totally trusting him after all the Hell he put her through, ( shrugs, geez) then, then Anubis takes her time literal Hell how his F'ed up sadist version of tough/punishment "love", ( not sure where he is in relation to her arm) and then even worse Arach is and Fae my race is dying and the ends justify the means ,O look I love BS!!! And some how No matter what fresh ( I didn't NEED not Want soo many details) Hell Vervain or us as readers are dragged long into to these Bastards are soo how forgiven?!?!, WHAT THE HELL ?!?! I love the fun, interesting and ( mostly) wonderful awesome characters ,but I'm getting Sick and I do mean SICK of these sick twisted things happening to her giving us more detail than needed ( since I don't " think" this supposed to be THAT dark or gritty a story ) and then all being either blamed on the victim ( Vervain) or WAY too easily forgiven... V has enough lovers w/Trevor ( who came into her life kinda sideways and kinda took control) ( I mean I adore Trev but he kinda tricked her in love and binding along w/the rest)
( the only ones still w/her that were totally straight forward w/out tricks were Kirill ( 1st and foremost) and Azarel ( in my opinion) and Odin to a degree but if you've read up until now you know that's just the tiniest bit complicated) honestly I'd just love see
Vervain get the personal life sorted once and for all, finding al way to give them all some sorta "equal" measure instead of what I'd call this " time share" love she's got going on now ,say them all living together... I mean Trevor gets her the most but is the most insecure ,maybe that's because of how he got her, not dis'ing Trev but the way got her was a lesser version than some of the "bad" guys and not at all honorable compared to Odin ( loved her 1st ( as Sabine and sacrificed soo much just to see her again) or Azarel who did the same both waiting 100's of years for the chance to love her again... Or Kirill who sweetly feel in love w/the woman who loved it enough to save him from abuse and mental Hell... Oddly Trevor gets to call the shots when his love started out from a selfish place as well...

Anoter book, another man.

In all honesty, we're getting to a point in this series where there's barely even a point to writing these reviews; we all know what we're in for.
People love Vervain, people hate Vervain.
We begin with 10% recapping, then move on to some relationship drama, introduce the new villain out to kill Vervain and then about 40% in we meet the new stud, who - of course - doesn't love Vervain, but wants to enact some sort of rapey plot against her, and then instead end up falling in love with her, to the point where he's transformed into a totally and utterly pussywhipped puppydog.

In this book it seems that Sumida had decided that we were running out of gods to adore our Vervain, so she had to introduce a whole new race of people to love her.
In the start of this series Vervain was a super-special-snowflake (SSS) human - then she became a SSS goddess - and guess what? She has faerie blood! And not just that?! Nooooooo. She's a SSS faerie, too! Mmhmm.

Oh, for fuck's sake!. I just want a little more fucking depth to the world we already have, and the characters already introduced. Instead it's always, always, always new powers, new men, new worlds. We spend so much time recapping older books, explaining the new rules and listening to the sob story of the new man that we never get to connect with the stuff already introduced.
Seriously, all her men are the same because we don't get any depth.

I really wish I had something better to do with my time than keep reading these books.

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I really liked this installment in The Godhunter series. It was fast paced, filled with action, and constantly had my attention. Some old characters were brought back and we were introduced to some new ones as well.
I love this series because it combines so many different fairy tales and stories and combines them together. There is mythology, werewolves, vampires, and even angels were added in during the last book. When Azrael came on the page, I was overjoyed because I love angels as a species and I have always been fascinated with them. I thought that this series couldn't add anything better after that. Little did I know, that in the back of my mind, there was something missing... Fey!
I love fey/fae/faeries/fairies as a species (no matter how you spell it). They are my absolute favorite supernatural species and I honestly didn't even think about having them in this world when there are so many other supernatural species in it already. But, as soon as Vervain appeared in Faerie, I was SO overjoyed! Amy Sumida added something that I didn't even know was missing and I am so happy about it. I loved being introduced to all of the fey and learning about the different species of fey during this installment.
Arach... I am still undecided about him. When he came on the page, I was excited because I love morally grey characters and I was excited at the idea of one of Vervain's harem members being morally grey. I immediately starting shipping Arach and Vervain. I was looking forward to a relationship blossoming between them... until he slapped her and took away her memories. I DO NOT condone a man hitting a woman in any way and even though he immediately apologized and promised to never do it again, I was not as supportive of their relationship from that moment forward. I somewhat understand the memory thing but it still rubbed me the wrong way. While I am not completely against a future between the two of them, it will take a while before I am completely on board with it after that.
One of my main problems with this series is that I feel like issues are resolved too quickly. The "villains" are vanquished entirely too easily and I never feel like any of the important or main characters are at risk. Another thing I have a problem with is how much Vervain is gaining power. It seems like every book leads to her finding new powers and it is leading her to become too powerful in my eyes. There also doesn't seem to be any drawback from these new powers which bothers me as well.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I do have problems with some of the characters and sometimes, Vervain's willingness to forgive rubs me the wrong way. Anubis for instance; there is no way that I would forgive him if I was in Vervain's shoes. I don't know if that makes me less of a person or if Vervain is just too forgiving, but it is the way it is. Anyways, despite the faults this series has, I will be continuing with the next installment, The Tainted Web .

Rape culture

I struggled through this book so much. The mind rape, physical rape, and overall dismissal of the rape was so upsetting. I had to skip so much of this book. It was violent, but it was still rape. It was chapter 50 something before you've finally passed it all.
This is the second book in the series, so far, with a heavy of rape... Every book has mentioned rape or had some form of rape at some point. I want to love this series. I just don't know how much more of this I can read...

Outside of that.. I was also disappointed with this book because the MC was so completely different than she has been. She was under a memory spell which I guess makes up for it, but later in the book, they mention how she didn't change.. she was still herself without her memories. It was just disappointing for her to become very Stepford housewife during her memory loss when she hadn't been that way with any lovers in the books prior...
I don't know. I don't think I'd recommend this book in the series, but how do you read a series & skip a book?

The series is becoming boring, in that so much is repetitive. Amy, if we are reading the series, we do not need you to repeat the history. You can pretty much skip the first 3 chapters. I sim pages, once I see repeats. I was happy that the sex scenes were not as graphic as some of the other books. How many men will be enough? That part is also becoming really old. What I enjoy and why I have probably stuck with the series is the way the author brings in the lessons on emotions. How Vervain looks into herself to feel, to search for answers to emotions and for growth. The lessons on acceptance of all species (races), listening to others and really hear their perspectives, opening your mind to change. I also enjoy the different characters and the action.

While the Godhhunter series can be viewed as a fun romp with great characters, Sumida has managed to sustain a multi-book, complex, over-arching storyline by binding seemingly unrelated plot threads laid in prior novels to constantly surprise this reader every time she manages to pull a myth-twist. I love the stories and am glutting myself on these books...although I dislike the non-consensual sex aspects (also experienced during prior novels with Anubis, and in some respects, Blue, during dream sequences) I hope rape/non-consentual relationships don't figure so predominantly a trend with more stories in the future.

God hunter 6

Vervain and her band of men are back! This time there are gruesome child murders to look into as well as drought. Add a trip to the land of fairy and you get a whole new male and race to this mix. Will this break her? Or make her stronger? I love how the author is able to mix all kinds of myths into her books. Keeps me coming back for more.

What A Ride!

Honestly I didn't expect any different from Amy Sumida. This had some of everything. Sexy times, romance, action, even some comedy. I thoroughly enjoyed it... even though I had to put it down for a bit. Some parts of this book were quite disturbing, so be sure that you can handle disturbing scenes before you read this one. Overall, an excellent read as expected.

I love this series but sometimes I could really kick Vervain up the Arse! She seems to walk into situations with her eyes shut and to hell with the consequences, having said that I do enjoy her sassy sense of humour.

Okay...then

So,I am a traditionalist who believes in monogamy, so Vervain and her group of lovers doesn't sit well with me.
However the author has successfully created several worlds and many characters that I find fascinating and refreshing.
I am loving this series.

More realms!

I like that she learned more about herself but I do not like how it happened. He would have had to do more in my eyes to make up for it but I am glad they are all safe. I am so sad about the God Squad death tho 😭

She has all these powers but never uses them. During the battle it feels like she just watched and stands there doing nothing.

Very slow burn RH. Don't expect the RH to start until you have read a few books. This is a plot driven series with 30 books and spinoff series.

It's awesome and I kinda love it so much I read the first 7 books back to back. Memorable characters with lots of action and a kickass FMC.

The synopsis on here is more interesting then the book.

It is so piecemeal and overly complicated. There is no human perspective given on the plight. The drought is barley touched on. The battles are to fast and predictable for me. There is no clever strategy, just smash and grab type warfare.

That being said, there is still enough drama and sexy stuff to keep me reading.

In the sixth book of the Godhunter series, Vervain ends up trying out a new power and traveling to a realm she didn't existed. The thing is though something led her there, and something wants her to be there for the creatures that live in this strange realm. However, it may not exactly be as she thinks it is, and it may end up being even worse for her if she doesn't figure out the truth soon.

This was a great addition to this story! I had a love/hate relationship with the "dragon." He frustrated me, but at times I thought he was awesome. I can't wait to see how Vervain handles this new addition to her life, and what that will mean for future stories.

As always, this one was really good and even kind of sad at times, but I look forward to more in this exciting series.
