Where The Rainbow Ends

Rate this book
Where The Rainbow Ends is a work of contemporary fiction based around four principal characters. In the words of Ken Ghosh, acclaimed Bollywood Director, “A refreshingly poignant plot that keeps its readers engrossed till the very end.”

Back cover blurb:

Even the most artistic of imaginings can sometimes seem callow in the face of truth. That which appears may not be and that which lies hidden might just be the stark, naked face of reality.

Rahul had everything going his way – a soaring career, a happy family and all else a man his age could yearn for. And then suddenly his life began to crumble all around him, disintegrating element after precious element, leaving him to watch in helpless horror.

Where had he gone wrong? Was there still hope for redemption, even a solitary ray that he could cling on to?

Avantika, a pretty, vivacious girl who had come into Rahul’s life by pure accident, literally, has suddenly gone missing. Just like that, without as much as a trace.

Where is Avantika? Will Rahul be able to find her? Is it her own past that has come back to consume her or is it something even more vicious and sinister?

Shalini, Rahul’s first love and a girl accustomed to leading life on her own terms. Hailing from a family that exerts considerable influence in the galleries of politics and power, she certainly has the wherewithal to impact a lot of things. Even lives.

Is Shalini fostering a grudge that could displace not one but many lives? Could she be the one behind Avantika’s mysterious disappearance?

The book has 200 pages and I read the first 100 pages at one go. It was tough to tear myself from the book but then one has to sleep. In the morning, the first thing that I did was to read up the next 100 pages. Well, that’s the pull of this book.

Where The Rainbow Ends is a well crafted story of Rahul, Shalini and Avantika which is set in today’s times. The story is narrated from Rahul’s point of view. The characters are very realistic and so are their trials and tribulations, actions and reactions which makes the story more interesting and believable. Though why Rahul never contacted his family when he was going through a tough time, flummoxed me.

The climax is surprising and explosive and neatly wraps the story. The end makes you a bit sad but then it is within the limitations of the story and its setting. The author delivers his story simply, powerfully and movingly.

The cover page of the book says that Where The Rainbow Ends is a racy page-turner that promises to take you on a tempestuous and soul-stirring journey which shall remain with you long after you have put the book down, and I agree with this completely.

Definitely a recommended read.

Before I say anything, let me say that the first thing that came out of my mouth after finishing the book, “A Shocked expression of WOW”. The story, the characters, the narration, last but not the least, the writings has left no stone unturned to make this book a bestselling.

The story starts with Rahul (the male protagonist) bumping into an air-hostess, Avantika. As time passed, Avantika became an important part of his life. To read my complete review, Click Here: http://sany-speaks4.blogspot.com/2014...

I thought I will take a week to read the book, but today when I started reading, I could not put the book down till I reached the last page. Nice story, great characters, gripping plot and of course, great writing! In short, a masterpiece.

Myra's character was the beautiful of all. Felt an instant connect with her. And the end was simply deep and left me teary eyes.

Definitely worth a read. Recommended.

This is an inspiring book. Even in bad circumstances we should never lose our hope. I really like the character of avantika how she supported rahul even in the worst phase knowing that she was suffering from cancer. This story can be made into a movie.

*NOTE: We (The Readdicts) received a copy of Where The Rainbow Ends by Anurag Anand from Srishti Publishers & Distributors in exchange for an honest review. We thank the publishing house for the book!

Where The Rainbow Ends had been lying on my shelf since so long that I've really lost track of how long it's actually been since the time I first received it. I had heard that the book is good and I was looking forward to reading it but for some reason or the other, I kept putting it on hold. For me honestly, the book turned to be surprisingly and unexpectedly good. I used the two adverbs because there are very few books by Indian authors I find to be mature. This was definitely one of those. Of course, it wasn't the best book I've read or anything, but what is was, was really, really good.

The book summary can possibly be quite deceiving as it paints a very typical picture from where things aren't all that hard to imagine and guess right. It's like anything around us that seems to be a small, tiny and minuscule thing but has more depth than we could have ever thought. Speaking about the story is quite difficult since going from the summary, it's difficult to make out what will count as spoilers and what won't.

Where The Rainbow Ends is the story of Rahul, a really good guy who finds himself blindly trapped in love, suffers it's consequences and emerges as a role model who is super strong. In the course of time, he comes across Shalini and Avantika, two women who change his life forever and actually contribute in their own ways into making him who he becomes, in ways better or worse, is up to the reader to decide. For me, the story was predominantly about Avantika. She stood out throughout the second half of the book and she deserved all that role and space that was given to her.

Where The Rainbow Ends has a very intriguing narrative technique that moves from present to past to present within a span of some 200 pages. While I did find a few minute errors here and there, the writing overall was very smooth and simple, which is always better. Author Anurag Anand has written a story that has a bit of drama, mystery, suspense and romance. It starts out as a cheerful recounting and keeps getting sadder and sadder which is how I like my stories which means I even liked this book. It was mature, sweet, believable and sensible. It was really good.

Where the Rainbow ends by Anurag Anand traces the graph of three individuals - Rahul, Avantika and Shalini. Rahul had everything going his way a soaring career, a happy family and all else a man his age could yearn for. And then suddenly his life began to crumble all around him, disintegrating element after precious element, leaving him to watch in helpless horror. Where had he gone wrong? Was there still hope for redemption, even a solitary ray that he could cling on to?

Avantika, a pretty, vivacious girl who had come into Rahuls life by pure accident, literally, has suddenly gone missing. Just like that, without as much as a trace. Where is Avantika? Will Rahul be able to find her? Is it her own past that has come back to consume her or is it something even more vicious and sinister?

Shalini, Rahuls first love and a girl accustomed to leading life on her own terms. Hailing from a family that exerts considerable influence in the galleries of politics and power, she certainly has the wherewithal to impact a lot of things. Even lives. Is Shalini fostering a grudge that could displace not one but many lives? Could she be the one behind Avantikas mysterious disappearance?

There are multiple threads which ultimately ends up in a thrilling climax. This is my first read of the author and he does impress with his intensity, pace and sincerity of telling a story. He writes about relationships with a warm which silently will remind you of Cecelia Ahern who incidentally has written a book by the same title. The author takes a story of common people and lap them up in difficult circumstances. The writing is sublime, but it lacks finesse in transitions and there are multiple awkward moments which comes off too contrived in character lives. At this moment, you will feel disappointed as a reader.

I am going with 3/5 for Anurag Anand's 'Where the Rainbow Ends'. It is a heart warming portrait of three individuals trapped in difficult circumstances. Even though one of the main character is ill-conceived and another provides a cheap redemption in the end, it is still a one time quick read. Much better than your normal run-of-the-mill romances you read these days.

An interesting, smooth and steady flight of imagination by Anurag Anand. It was the title and the blurb that made me order this book. The tower of writing talent peaks high bloating the images clearly in reader’s mind and propelling the story line well within the slow and subtle revelations of events one by one. The lead characters Rahul, Shalini and Avantika are profound, pragmatic and spontaneous. There was certain amount of humor in airport description, the so obvious ‘do not disturb’ neighbors and the police station. The entry of Avantika was well carved; her abrupt disappearance and search followed by Rahul with whatever clues he could get perfectly heated the plot. The vivid romantic life of Shalini and Rahul wheeled quite alike every other college affair story. The novel portray three father daughter relationships- the sweetest, finest and most important of Myra and Rahul, then Shalini and Avantika in a little yet modest way with their respective fathers. The hapless blighted tale of Avantika was pitiable but finally her absolution and time spent with Rahul and Myra was worthy. Nevertheless, the last fifty pages perfectly engrossed me with a mix of bittersweet emotions and expressions. Avantika’s letter deserves a special mention and it moistened my eyes for a while but not for long as the epilogue curved my lips for a contented smile. ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’- definitely leave its readers at the bottom of a big color spray, where the mist finally clears and the protagonist- Rahul Singh settles with peace, clear ambition and compassion.
Overall, a good and delightful read!

Author's writing - One of a kind especially coming from an Indian author! This is one of those rare books where its hard to find an error. Kudos. I personally enjoyed reading the book and with every page, my admiration towards the author increased. His writing is clear and simple. The message is crisply conveyed and the story moves at a constant pace fluctuating between the present and the past of the protagonist. The climax is a little surprising. And for the lazy readers out there, the page number is also a 'turn-on' of sorts - only 200! With every book I read, I feel there's any emerging trend to not only write a novel that caters to the reading audience but also to cater to the movie production houses as a prospective script of a new movie. This book is no different in that sense.

" We never get over our fathers, and we're not required to. (Irish proverb)
Every so often, you come across a book that rocks you from within. It makes you want to cry, laugh, think, feel and dream, all at the same time. "Where the rainbow ends" had just this effect on me. With a strong and honest storyline, I was glued to it till the very end. The way it has been written, with humbleness, adds a different charm to it. This book left me speechless and swollen eyed. A recommended read I must say!

Rahul meets Avantika and they fall in love. Rahul’s little daughter takes to Avantika big time. Then Avantika vanishes suddenly and the writer takes us on the journey of Rahul’s first marriage. How did Rahul and Shalini meet, how they married and then broke up. It is a simple, single-layer story that doesn’t go anywhere much – but still it’s not too bad and I found it engaging. However, what kills the book is the writing – cliché ridden, tacky and repetitive. It is better than some of the current best sellers in India but not by much.

“Where The Rainbow Ends” is the second book I read (first was The Quest For Nothing) of the Author Anurag Anand and I would say now i have become fan of his writing. When i first saw the cover of the book i was too excited to read this book and finally when I got the book I started reading it, seriously i was too engrossed in it and was enjoying each and every word of it.
Story starts from the scene of Delhi airport when the protagonist Mr. Rahul singh was waiting for his turn to complete the check-in process and he was too annoyed cause one of the passenger who was ahead of him. After boarding what happens made him (Rahul) to think about someone who was too important part of his life. Here comes the second main character of the story Ms Avantika. How does he meet Avantika for the very first time? What does happen in their first meeting? How does Avantika take an important role in his life? You will get to know the answers of all these questions in the first two or three chapters. You will enjoy their first meeting while reading it.
Rahul is a well-settled and cheerful person. He has a lovely daughter named Myra and wife Shalini. He is working with a brand and living his life very well, but future has something different for him.
He meets Shalini few years back when he was pursuing his masters in Mumbai with the help of his friend Poka. He was living in a apartment with his three friends Poka was also one of them. Shalini too was the resident of the same locality. First they meet then become friends after that started loving other other. They confess their love and decide mutually to get married but in same time Rahul was depressed because of his career. But he gets everything so easily even he didn’t think about it. Though the love journey of Rahul and Shalini is simple and sweet but poka’s spices make it more interesting and enjoyable. With the parents consent they got married and start living their life but it was all not that much easy which Rahul was thinking of. He has to suffer a lot sometimes he tries to solve it out with Shalini but every time she cut him off. But things started getting better with the birth of Myra. Rahul was happy but he didn’t know that happiness was not perpetual. One day destiny brought something cause of that he has to lose his wife and the fear of losing his daughter was eating him.
Then Avantika comes in his life and gives him support to live and fight, Fight for his daughter. But he has to lose everything in this fight. Avantika’s support and care give him assurance that he will get everything whatever he has lost. Suddenly one fine day Avantika too goes away without telling him anything. Now he was left alone, totally alone and shattered. He accepts everything and decides to leave his daughter then he gets a letter and everything got change, Because that was a letter from Avantika. The letter made him cry, made him helpless and he got to know the reason of Avantika’s departure. At that moment he couldn’t do anything for Avantika but can save his daughter so did he. He got back everything which he had lost and start living for his only daughter.
It is a different as well as interesting and emotional story, full of love, dedication, struggle and sacrifice. The story has its own web and when you will start reading it you will be stuck in and would not want to come out of it. I too got stuck in it and was living the character’s life when Rahul was laughing in joy I laughed, when he cried i too cried. It was like I was not reading the book rather the story was going on in front of my eyes. In the end of the story Avantika’s letter was the turning point and while reading that letter my eyes were wet and was feeling too much sad for Avantika.
In the end I would like to say if you want to see different phases of life and different faces of people you should read this book. I am telling you, honestly you will not regret after reading it. It’s worth of your time and money.
I would give it 5/5 ...loved it . Anurag Anand waiting for next from your treasure…best of luck (Y)

The moment I finished the first chapter I knew that this book would prove to be a really good read. Now here’s a story that is refreshing, new and so interesting that one could get glued to it till it gets over. Its an impeccable mix of suspense, drama, emotions and everything that would make a book very much readable. The writing is good, and the timing of the writer is superb.

The story starts when the protagonist Rahul Singh, a divorced man with a five year old daughter, boards the airplane bound to Delhi in order to locate Avantika, the girl he loves, who has mysteriously gone missing. When he is unable to discover anything at the given address, he decides to lodge a complaint with the police. He then narrates his life’s story, how he met his ex-wife, the person who made his life a living hell, the birth of his lovely daughter, the divorce, how he comes across Avantika and how she becomes an important part of his life. Her sudden disappearance compels him to look for her and thus he flies all the way to Delhi to locate the one girl for whom his heart cries out. With the help of the police, he stumbles upon clues that lead him no-where. Disheartened, he comes back to Mumbai to his daughter, only to discover that his ex-wife has served him with yet another notice claiming their daughter’s custody. With all possible doors closed, receiving nothing but dead-ends, he loses all hope but an unexpected twist leaves both Rahul as well as the reader astonished.

The story is more interesting than the blurb suggests. The meticulously described events take the reader into the very scene and essence that the author is trying to create. The cleverly written characters, be it the ever so bubbly daughter or the annoying and vengeful ex-wife, makes the reader connect with the narrative. I found myself feeling sorry for Rahul for having a wife like Shalini and over-whelmed at the thought of him losing Avantika forever. The climax especially won my heart. There was not a moment when I could keep the book down.

A mind boggling plot, with the mystery prevailing till the very end, this one is a definite read. This is not a mystery book though. Pick it up nonetheless.

The story revolves around the protagonist Rahul, Shalini was her ex-gf .
Avantika had been missing along the way, Avantika was gone ! Where ? No one knows.

In the short span of time, Avantika had become an inseparable part of Rahul's and Myra's life .
Her presence had become a habit, a necessity .

Avantika had said once - 'You know Rahul ,life is too beautiful to be drowned in sorrows. You must get a grip on yourself and put up a brave face. If not on yourself then for Myra.

She didnt call back neither did she ever ever visit them.
What all Rahul know about her ,is her name, her mobile number ,her place to work and the city dhe stayed in.

Rahul went to Delhi in search for her & to find her.The city of Delhi can be most cruel and unreasonable to visitors when it intends to.

After visiting the place where she used to live & work ,Rahul get to know that she didnt told anyone and vanished suddenly.

This book just blows your mind when you reach the climax.

While the book had a fairly interesting plotline, the only thing that got me through it was my own determination to always finish books I've paid for. I found the author's diction entirely unnecessarily pretentious, and, while the main character went through many real difficulties, I never could muster much sympathy for him due to his entirely unlikable personality; the first-person perspective revealed a lot of upper-middle-class whining and sexist tendencies. I particularly disliked the phrase "part-time whore."

The best part of the novel was in the author's notes, where he asked those of us who disliked the novel to recommend it to all of our friends, in order to sadistically enjoy watching them spend their time and money on something we think is no good. Of course, I won't be doing that, but it was funny nonetheless.

A different story with mix of love, drama and mystery. A lot of excitement in the second half keeps the story interesting.

But the first half is a regular love story with lots of ups and downs and nothing much to offer. Avantika's character needed a bit more which lacked somewhere.

Also the end was quite not up to the expectations. It could have been made more compelling.

The attempt is good, the idea is unique but the execution lacked.

“Where the Rainbow Ends” is a love story with elements of a mystery thriller that will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next. Realistic characters are brought to life in a simple style. But I feel the story overall lacks something. The plotline is predictable, and I’m not a big fan of the ending. A one-time read for me.

What attracted me towards the novel was the popularity of the author, Anurag Anand and the name of the novel for it resonates one of the bestseller by Cecilia Ahern, which also happens to be my favorite. Will the novel live up to it's name? That was the question lurking in my mind. Let me begin by saying that, Where The Rainbow Ends, isn't anything like it's namesake yet adeptly seeps into your skin.

Rahul and Shalini's dysfunctional married life takes an abrupt halt. What begins thence is a game of hatred. Shalini, daughter of a VIP, leaves no stone unturned to create a havoc in Rahul's life for the custody of their daughter, Myra. The only solace in these turbulent times for Rahul and Myra is Avantika. But fate has something else in store for them. With Avantika's disappearance commences yet another web of events which leads us to staggering revelations.

Not only is the story well-knit but the writing is so deft that you are easily drawn into the lives of it's characters. You will feel the warmth of Rahul and Shalini's budding relationship, you meet the nebulous college goer, Rahul who soon transforms to a matured adult Rahul burdened by responsibilities. We seethe with hatred for a cold, irresponsible, Shalini. Such and many more emotions are evoked by the novel.

The plot has many twists and turns which keep you hooked. It is a sure pageturner and racy at that. You zip through the lives of the characters in such a manner that you are bound to be speechless towards the end. All the characters are whole, nothing is left unripe. All the ends are tied up well and clean. Even the minor characters have a satisfied end and that what makes the novel more likable.

To sum up, it is one phenomenal work by Anurag Anand that you ought not to miss.

On the scale of readability it is definitely 9 on 10.

I rate it 4 stars out of 5.
