Lake Loveless #1

Beautiful Oblivion

Rate this book
Some people just don’t belong together, or at least that’s what the world would have them believe.

It was supposed to be just for the summer…

Reese Westfield comes from a world of old money, country clubs, cotillions, and expensive cars. She’s tired of dating Warren McCarthy just to make her father happy. Reese has long since had her eye on someone else, and this summer she’s determined to make it happen.

Growing up in Lake Loveless there has always been a strict monetary divide—there was the rest of the Lake and then there were the Waterman’s. Ace Waterman has worked for everything he has, and he doesn’t have a lot. He breaks his back doing grunt work while putting himself through college. He’s used to life passing him by.

Reese has loved Ace from afar for as long as she can remember. The summer of her freshman year she comes home with plans to land Ace in her bed at least for a few short weeks, and, if she’s lucky, forever.

Ace has loved Reese for as long as he can remember, but their friendship has never graduated beyond platonic, so when Reese comes home from her first year away and proposes the two of them have a summer fling, Ace is quick to comply. The rules: no strings, no expectations, just something hotter than the sun to set the sheets on fire.

But when their worlds collide, and neither of them is willing to admit to having true feelings, it becomes clear to Ace he’s nothing more than a dirty little secret—that the summer fling was just something meaningless to pass the time.

Reese wonders if she can ever stop trying to please her father, and it’s only through her mother’s letters that she finds the answers she truly seeks, but will they be the ones she wants to hear?

As summer draws to a close, Ace and Reese are still very much enraptured even though the time has come to douse the flame and move on—but neither one of them is prepared to leave this BEAUTIFUL OBLIVION.

This was definitely a NA read. It was okay... but I was not down with the ridiculous drama.
The h in this book... two words...

description

I was constantly reminding myself that these characters are in COLLEGE! In their 20's! Why did I have to remind myself of this? Not because I was forgetting that the level of immaturity would be fairly normal for someone in their 20's in college. No, No, No. It was because I needed the reminder that they weren't in high school!

description

Holy shite! Girl... You can't tell your daddy that you like a certain guy? You can't tell your daddy that you don't like the douchebag he expects you to marry? (Who has actually assaulted you more than once... but we won't get into the absolute bullshite that was.) You can't tell the douchebag himself that you don't like him and have no intention of ever being with him. You can't tell the guy you've loved most of your life, who you have started sleeping with, who you spend every moment you possibly can with, that you like him more than "friends"? I mean... this is beyond the scope of what a 20-something in college should be able to communicate.

description

These two didn't get their shit together until like 80% or more of the way through the book! For fecks sake!

description

By that time, unfortunately, it was too late and frankly...

I wanted to like this book so badly but I just didnt.
Ace was the ONLY reason I even finished the book.

Reese....( I hear my own mother's voice in my head, "if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all." )and there is NOT anything nice to say about Reese.

The story just seemed emotionless, even when they talked about their feelings...although never with each other. It felt calculated, which it partly was but even when they were together I just didnt feel it.
I longed for it to get better. I hoped it was ending soon...I started skipping pages and still it took too long.

Im a book cover junkie. This one had me, just wish the actual story kept me there.

Freebie, good storyline, good characters, I just wish the main h (Reese) wasn't so wishy washy. Here you have a girl who supposedly has been in love with a boy (Ace) her whole life yet when she gets a chance to be with him she keeps him and her supposed boyfriend (Warren aka douche bag) hanging. She wants her cake and eat it too well, no but she's to immature to figure this dynamic out. She doesn't even like supposed boyfriend but keeps him in the picture because she's to immature to stand up for who she really loves.. this could have been so much better if Reese and ace just communicated better. I understand young love but if your willing to share your body by gosh you better be ok talking about anything especially your feelings for one another! A little angst in beginning ok but when main characters don't come around (stop being stupid)until well over 80% of the book well that's way too long. I would have liked H/h get together mid way so as to build on their relationship as couple not finally were a couple HEA all within few pages. Best part of the book, Reese 's letters from her mom so awesome/sad at same time!

I read a Addison Moore story earlier this year and loved her writing style, its simple, easy and yet well thought out. I never got bored, never skimmed and never stopped loving the characters.

Beautiful Oblivion is about Reese and Ace. It's about Rich and Poor, about love and lust. It highlights how money cant buy you class or morals. It cant ever buy you true love, ever.

Reese is a girl who grew up in this small lake community, she lives on the rich side, has a successful lawyer father, and lost a beautiful souled Mother way too early. Unlike other stories where the rich Father is portrayed as an ass, her Father wasn't. He saw money as a tool but not the end all be all that others saw. But to Reese she thought that she had to please and care for her Father the way she thought her mom would approve. Little did she know.

Ace is the good egg born on the poorer side of the lake community. When I say good egg, I mean it. His only faults are that he likes to party (not crazy) and that he would rather work for what he has. But this kid thinks he is no good for the girl he has secretly loved. The girl that grew up with him and his crazy sister. Reese.

So when Reese comes back from college her freshman year, she decides she needs to get Ace. She has loved him from afar too long. So she gets him to agree to take her V card, and well at the end he changes her name. Yes they have struggles with a certain rich monster who thinks she belongs to him, but remember Ace is the good egg and he is the man. Their fake Honeymoon camping trip was sexier than my actual honeymoon. steamy and adorable.

Yes this story could have been done with long before it started if they would have both just admitted to loving and crushing on each other, but, then well it wouldn't be a love story would it. So I say this is the perfect in between book. I cant keep reading heavy books or else I would go a little crazy. This was a nice pick me up.

I READ THIS BOOK IN THE ROUGH DRAFT SO MY REVIEW MAY NOT BE CORRECT WELL MY THOUGHTS ARE BUT ABOUT OTHER THINGS THEY MAY NOT BE!!!!

Love the cover, and love Addison so of course I was going to read the damn book! I just wished there would have been maybe a prologue so we could see how Ace and Reese know each other because when I started reading the book it jumped right into action which I normally like but I was a tad bit confused on how they knew each other and what they are to each other so a little background info would have been really nice. Ace though I did love him and right off you could tell that he had feelings for Reese who was well oblivion to them. I love his teasing manner, "Ace jumps to his feet and starts tugging down his shorts, exposing a glowing line of skin highlighted low around his waist. "You'd better spin around, or you're about to see another foot long." I loved his reactions to Reese, "I turn back in time to catch her slipping out of her shorts, and my di** wags like a tail. And to think I almost missed the show." Reese I like how she's not going to change anything on her body for a boy and ladies I mean ANYTHING, "oh really," I say it curt. "Do you think he's going to shave his fun zone using the same brand of logic? I think not. It's totally sexist to suggest I lose the bush. By the way, nary a sharpened blade will get near my sweet spot." Ace he enjoys what Reese does to him, "she pulls the string to my board shorts and unties the front. Her fingers comb out the laces, and before I know it she's excavated my hard-on, and lands it between us. It does look like a pet, on big oversized hairy beast." That is good to know Ace that you're endowed women appreciate that information.

Your typical coming of age, new adult romance where the main characters don't communicate, you want to smack the heroine because she can't grow a backbone, and the hero is just dreamy. Ace Waterman is the ONLY reason this book was tolerable until the end, otherwise this would've ended up with a big ol' DNF.

So Stinkin' Sweet. Beautiful Oblivion is a Beautiful Love Story!
This was a super sweet romance. Reece is from money...Ace is not. She is expected to marry the guy her dad has always planned on her marrying...to bad he is a complete ass. She however has other plans. Her heart has belonged to Ace for as long as she can remember. Ace may not have money but he is the sweetest most caring man ever. He is gentle yet strong and protective. He is calm and my heart ached for him throughout the story. He has been in love with Reece forever. They are best friends who decide to embark on a summer "fling" in hopes that Reece will lose her virginity to Ace. Ace doesn't really think its a good idea because he doesn't want to lose Reece as a friend but he can't stay away from her...even if it means getting his heart shattered at the end of the summer. He doesn't want to use her...he wants to take his time with her and enjoy every last second he can with her. He doesn't want her to end up feeling used and regretting her decisions.
I loved Reece' and Ace' chemistry. It was a very good book with no cliffhanger. There will however be a second book about Gavin (Ace's best friend) Hopefully we will get a little more Ace and Reece too and maybe get a little more insight to Ace' sister Neva and her issues. Neva and Reece used to be best friends up until shortly after Reece's mother died and Neva and Ace's mother left.
This is a simple love story...it is sweet and passionate. I read some review that rated this book lower because they were disappointed in the lack of steamy scenes. There are love scenes...and some are kind of descriptive. They aren't erotic...the are sweet and filled with love. I read all kinds of books.

Reese is from one of the wealthy families on the lake, but she likes the simple things in life; and she LOVES the boy across the lake and has loved him for years. She has decided that this summer she is going to make her move on Ace.

Her father wants her to date his business partners son Warren, whom I hate with a passion. She does not want to, and THINKS she isn't dating him...but she is. She goes out to dinner with him, she went to Mexico with him..COME ON if that isn't dating I don't know what is!!!

Reese throws out her lure and Ace takes the bait. They are going to have a summer fling between best friends.

NOW for Ace, he is HOT, and loves Reese, has always loved her since she was a little girl and best friends with his sister. He is so warm, accepting, and forgiving of Reese and her stringing both him and Warren along. I dont know if he thinks he is not good enough for her, yes I do, that is exactly what he thinks.

I wanted Reese to grow up, grow a pair and DROP KICK WARREN, then tell her father to butt out of her love life she was going to date whom she wanted. If she loved Ace as much as it seemed she did, why didnt she get Warren out of the picutre?

I enjoyed this book, I was frustrated by Reese, I LOVED Ace, the secondary charaters were funny, supportive of their friends, nasty, or misguided. I would say read this book for yourself and see what you think!

This was an amazing read and I devoured it in record-breaking time.

I loved everything about it - the writing, the characters, the pacing, the plot.

Reese and Ace have been in love with each other for years, but both are afraid to tell the other in case they ruin their friendship. Totally believable premise. Reese suggests a summer 'fling' and Ace agrees and most of the novel centers on their developing romance. I'm all about the romance so this book was the perfect read. It's essentially the story of how they turn a sweet friendship into a steamy love that will last forever.

Character development was really strong in this book and there are a lot of interesting side characters who will no doubt become the focus of future books.

There were a few scenes where I was disappointed in Reese - she could have tried harder to set Warren free and she let Ace down a couple of times which broke my heart. But she redeemed herself in the end so I forgive her <3

This is the second Addison Moore book I have read. I read one of her 3AM Kisses books and while I enjoyed it, I didn't love it like I did this book. I'm already more than halfway through the second book in this series and I'm loving that one too. I'm delighted to have found another favorite author and I'll definitely check out some of her other series in the near future.

Highly recommended if you enjoy well written, sweet but steamy NA series.

Well, I wanted to love this. I was caught up in the blurb...young rich girl in love with her best friend, a hottie from "town" but destined to marry for privilege. I wanted to feel the taboo passion and the angst. I wanted those stolen moments of "we should not be doing this." Unfortunately it was turned out to be kinda meh' for me.

Beautiful Oblivion was more of a building love story of Reese and her bestie Ace. Both are endearing and open with one another and both are completely hot for one another. Everyone else seems to know this, but them. Or do they? They decide to have a summer of fun and love...Reece wants to experience everything for the first time with Ace, even though she is supposedly with the entitled Warren. This is one of those reads where, one guy is great-one is a jerk. One girl is in love with and wants one man - but seems to be dating another. It should be confusing but its not. Reese and Ace are together the whole book with the exception of the times Warren is dropping sloppy drunk kisses on her face!

The story was fast paced and kinda underwhelming. There were sweet moments of flirting and hot moments of passion but the overall story was a bit predictable and the happy ever after was way fast and neat.

☆ 3 – 3.5 STARS!!! ☆

→ FULL REVIEW: Clickety click ;)

With a smoking hot cover and an even better synopsis, comes a novel with such intensity. The story of two young lovers fighting to be together while at the same time fighting off those who keep them apart: family, friends and, basically, the world. Although I must say it was quite a disappointment to what I expected, it was still an okay read.

Honestly, I was pissed off with most of the book because the characters were rash and impulsive. Especially Reese who's just a plain idiot. Dude, you've been going on dinners and trips with this man and you think you're not dating him? GET A CLUE!!!

I struggled with this book but Ace managed to save it. Ace was sweet and caring. He was really thoughtful about Reese and I just really liked his character. He didn't really bullshit. But I was hoping we could've seen more chemistry between them because it all seemed just like sex.

Overall a pretty sweet book. I did like the plot, it kept me on my toes. The bad thing about it is, it's been two days since I read it and I completely for got what it was about until I looked at the book blurb. So good book, not much sticking power for me. I found that odd since I typically enjoy and remember Addison Moore books.

I don't think I'll end up writing a full review for this one. It's got countless reviews already and I don't think I'd do it justice, honestly.

I needed a quick read and this one was by hand. And I got what I wanted even though I didn't enjoy reading. Some parts were okay, but I just hated Reese for not standing for herself and for what she loves. Apart that... Ace was sweet, Warren was an asshole as it was supposed to be and Neva? Wtf was wrong with Neva?...

The cover to this book is amazing, so I automatically knew that I would love it! I always love the set-up where couples think they can pull off the friends with benefits relationship style. Reese wanted to lose her virginity and be prepared for the college lifestyle, so knowing how experienced Ace was, went to him for training. There was definitely an ulterior motive for both of them in this agreement. It was frustrating to read at times, but sweet how they didn’t want to risk their friendship by coming out with their feelings for one another. They had known each other for most of their lives, so it’s understandable. I loved the drama that Reese’s ex-best friend/Ace’s sister and Reese’s so called boyfriend brought. It was great how Reese and Ace were hesitant, but trusted each other enough to not let the drama people brought on destroy them. There needs to be more guys like Ace out there! It’s a steamy scene book with detail, which is always fantastic! This is a great story, which I flew through! I’m excited to read Gavin’s story in the next book of the series!

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to finish this book. If not for the hero, Ace, I wouldn't have. He was the only character I really liked in the book and I wanted to see things work out for him. The rest of the characters...not so much. Some I couldn't stand and others made me want to pull my hair out with frustration or slap them for their immaturity.

This is an NA (New Adult) book, something I don't typically read. Maybe that was the issue. I tend to read books where the main couple is in their late twenties or older. Most of the characters in this book were in their early twenties.

The biggest issue I had with the book revolved around the heroine, Reese and another guy named Warren. Without going into details, their relationship was completely screwed up. There was a whole 'is she cheating or isn't she' aspect to this story that I didn't care for either.

The writing was good and the story flowed well. There also weren't any major editing issues.

I would recommend this book to those who don't mind immature characters or cheating.

True love always finds a special place in your heart. Ace and Reese share a unique kind of love. Love that is blinded by actions of others. Neither wants to tell the other how they truly feel but both know deep down inside they want each other. Reese worried worried about her dad's reaction while Ace is also worried about his dad's reaction. Unfortunately Reese lost her mother at a young age but before her death she managed to write letters for Reese on her special days in her life. With these letter, Reese gets strength to live her life. In the words of her mother, follow your heart, it always knows best. And that is exactly what she does. She's confesses her love to Ace after he lets her know how he truly feels! Two people destined to be together finally get their chance! What a truly amazing story!

I really wanted to like this story. As an author myself, I know what kind of time and effort it takes to make a book, and I know the author is taking a greater business risk giving a book away. I admire that kind of courage!

If you're looking for a steamy encounter between childhood friends, give this book a shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

But if you're not into whiny women, this book isn't for you. I felt like I've read YA books who have a female lead more mature than this. There's a lot more to women than just a need for sex, but for this narrator, I felt like that was the only thing that drove her. I didn't feel like she had any respect for her body, and that made me really uncomfortable.

Ace, however, was a delightful character, and I'd read about him again in a heartbeat.

Another one of my 99cent bargain books that ended up being wonderful.

It was sweet, fun and I knew that warren was a crazy psychopath!

Ace steals your heart you just fall for him and you can't stop yourself.

It was sweet knowing they loved one another for so long but were afraid to test the waters until that one fateful day. Was was suppose to be a summer fling was so much more.

I really am glad there were no cliffhangers and as much as I love angst I was glad the drama moments were mild after just finishing a book that hung me over a ledge.

You end up feeling content and that all is right.

Wonderful book with a lot of drama, almost too much sex. It seemed for pages and pages that is all they did, and I understand flings but damn! The story lines was real easy too and apart from the sex the book maintains an almost juvenile level with all the back stabbing. My first from the author and thanks bookbub for sending me a great book

This story is about two people who struggle with society and the expectations that they have grown up with. The main characters, Reese and Ace have been friends since childhood. A plan to have a summer fling with each other changes everything. This was a good story and held my attention.
