Creative Cartooning: Master the art of drarwing cartoon characters-step by step! is a really fun introductory book for students/children that might be interested in designing their own cartoon characters. It is full of helpful hints (for example, how to ink lines, how to draw a character into a scene, etc) but it is a very brief introduction. A good starting-off point for beginners.
