3.5 stars, rounded up for the strong Christian message concerning what forgiveness means.
I liked both Cassie and Rick, though there were moments where the characters' motivations weren't entirely clear. It also wasn't exactly plausible with what happened when the flu came to town..."oh, he can go be around those people; he had the shot" sort of thinking made it sound like the shot was a fail-safe method, and not having the shot was like dealing with instant scarlet fever or something. Other similar little generalizations got on my nerves a trifle—but the message was quite deep and brought my enjoyment level back up.
The author has written a beautiful story about a man and woman who has felt deep personal pain. Cassie arrives in Churchill hoping to start a new life for her and her son. She'll be the resident nurse at the center for troubled boys and at the local hospital. But her son's experiencing some deep emotional problems, and she's afraid she cannot reach him.
Churchill pastor, Rick Crockett has a lot of guilt over the part he's played in bankrupting people. After he losses everything in a risky investment, he vows to God that he'll spend the remainder of his days making restitution and giving up the one thing he wanted most: a family.
It is a painful story to watch these two struggle with their problems and pain. They become good friends, but Rick cannot break his vow to God. The romantic tension grows throughout the story, and Noah's problems grow worse and worse. I was pleased at the route the author took this story down and resolved the issues. Very well done!
Rick Salinger is the pastor of Churchill , he meets Cassie that is going to work at the center. She has a son name Noah that has a stuttering problem since a little after his dad was killed. Rick is trying to help him. Rick has a secret from his past that actually is connected to Cassie. They have problems but work thru them.
Great story, very uplifting. Only downfall was the ending. I’m glad Rick was able to finally see God has forgiven him and that he and Cassie can truly love each other now but I didn’t like that he asked her to marry him on Easter. It was the first time he said “I love you” and then right after it was a proposal.

I loved ❤️ this book's storyline. I loved ❤️ the Christian ✝️ theme in this story. I loved ❤️ Rick's character. I loved ❤️ Cassie's character. I loved ❤️ the message in this story. I loved ❤️ the ending. Awesome job Ms. Richer.
Rick and Cassie have more in common than they first realize. Cassie's dad was the minister that helped Rick, and Rick's investments' were the ones that made it so her dad couldn't help her after her husband died.
"Richer's characters remind readers that while our struggles test us, anger is poisonous to our spirits. Rick's realization is a poignant one: If God has forgiven us, we should forgive ourselves". (RT Book Reviews, rated 4 stars)
Very good book! I really enjoyed reading how Cassie and Noah initially had a strong faith but walked away from it during difficult times. I found to be heart warming how Rick was able to lead them both back to their faith to move on with their life. Looking forward to reading more by Lois Richer!
