I was expecting more from this book, I mean the setup was so good, friend to lovers? What could be more perfect but sadly the book kind of squandered that potential, because there were such good moments, but the characters always walked away. The heroine has a horrible history with romance and her friends have always been there for her especially the hero but their friendship resulted in a night of passion and the heroine has been avoiding the hero ever since. But well pregnancy changes things but there are concerns because of the heroine's mother's medical history. These two took two steps forward and then two steps backwards and they were both emotional cowards. Overall I liked their chemistry and friendship but expected more.

Good read. This is one of those books with the forceful hero, but fortunately, the heroine is strong enough to stand up to him. She's terrified of losing her friendship with the hero, and her job, since her boss has been in an on-and-off relationship with the hero and wants to start it up again. Also, the heroine's mother died of some kind of awful genetic wasting disease and the heroine has refused to get tested for it and just decided not to have children. So the hero takes her off to an island while a cyclone (same thing as a hurricane, not a tornado) is coming ashore so she can't avoid talking to him about their relationship. She hasn't told him about the baby yet. And so all these complications stir up together into a real angsty mess for a seriously good read.

Good book. Kat has been a magnet for trouble for most of her adult life and the tabloids have been there to document it. But her friends have always been there for her, especially Marco. She's always managed to resist his appeal, keeping their friendship strong. But one night, thanks to a bit too much celebrating, she and Marco had gone beyond that friendship. Now that she's pregnant they have to decide whether to stick to being friends or take it up to the next level.

Kat never planned to have children. She watched her mother die from a devastating disease and fears that she may be a carrier. She doesn't want to put a child through the same things she did. She's also been afraid to take the test that would tell her one way or the other because she doesn't want to have a potential death sentence hanging over her as she tries to live her life. It did have the effect on her of making her spend a period of time living very recklessly before she wised up. Marco was always there to listen to her when she needed to talk. After that one night she has tried to put Marco back in the friends only category, not wanting their friendship to change, but the change can't be stopped.

Marco has been disturbed by the fact that Kat has begun ignoring his calls. When he finally arrives back in Australia after ten weeks away doing his job he is ready to confront her. He whisks Kat away to his island retreat just as a cyclone is about to hit. As they are confined to the island during the storm Marco works hard to get their friendship back on track, but he also wants more. He hasn't been able to forget that night and that attraction is still running hot. He is sensitive to her fears and tries not to rush things.

Because of the baby Kat has finally gotten the test for the disease done and as she waits for the results she has to confront her feelings for Marco. She finally admits to herself that she loves him but she doesn't want him to feel obligated to marry her because of the baby. She is certain that all he wants from her is their friendship to go back to the way it was.

Meanwhile, Marco is certain that Kat just wants friendship, in spite of the incredible heat that flares up every time they are together. He goes along with that but is also determined to win her heart. I really loved the way he was there for her as she waited for the test results.

Kat went through some pretty intense emotions throughout the book. They had the effect of making her take a good hard look at her life. I enjoyed the changes she made as she moved away from the more reckless lifestyle. The empathy she feels for people who are in trouble gives her ideas for what she can do with her time.

There is an interesting twist that comes about because of the test results and I liked the way it was handled. I will be interested to see if it will have an effect on a later book. I loved the conclusion of the book and seeing both Marco and Kat finally have the courage to admit their feelings to each other. I would have liked to see an epilogue, maybe after the baby is born.

Kat and Marco are best friends and have been since high school. She's famous for no reason and he's a professional sports star turned commentator and both of them have taken their knocks in the love department. So inexplicably one night and before the story starts, the two of them have sex and it's at the beginning of this story that Kat realizes that she's pregnant with her best friend's baby. But she believes she may be genetically predisposed to a particularly nasty disease and she considers abortion before passing it on to her child. So she waits for the test results before telling Marco, but he finds out anyway, since her standoffishness and avoidance is affecting their friendship. Marco tries to be her friend first and foremost as she finds out about the disease and the reason she might not carry it. But Marco doesn't want to be her friend - he's in love with her. And although Kat loves Marco, she's convinced their friendship won't last if they get involved.

So Marco was quite dreamy. Such a great friend, so understanding of Kat and so patient with the crap she put him through. My three stars - they are for you Marco. Kat was frustrating. She had a huge chip on her shoulder, she was determined to be in control and she kept making decisions that would affect Marco without consulting him or getting his opinion. To my view of things, she was the primary reason their friendship was struggling - not because it had become romantic but because she'd get panicky and then lash out. Everytime Marco made any progress she'd firmly set him back in the friend category until they had sex again. And nothing irritates me like a woman who expects a man to be a mind reader. She'd insist that they be friends and then she'd get irritated that Marco actually believed her. WTF?

This is an emotionally packed story with a beautiful sensual and up hill journey to a HEA as best friends Marco and Kat realize that best friends can be lovers as well. Kat and Marco are both in the limelight with their lives and it doesen't take a lot to have the paparazzi after them again and with a cyclone just about to hit Cairns they take off to Marco's house on an island and what a few days this is. I loved this story it had me grabbing the tissues a few times loved it.

Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved "Suddenly Expecting"! It was an extraordinarily amazing Harlequin Desire novel and I can't wait to read more from the wickedly talented author, Paula Roe. The storyline and characters were absolutely perfect, and they kept me entertained and on edge the entire time wondering what would happen next. I really can't say anything more except that I loved loved loved it! Bravo, Ms. Roe!

Talk about baby momma drama

There's a lot going on for this storyline, however, it really is a steamy tale of two best friends figuring out something they already know.

It's a good weekend read!

Angsty but sweet friends-to-lovers romance. Twice-divorced Kat hooks up with former playboy soccer star-turned-sports commentator and underwear model Marco. Unexpected pregnancy results. I’m not giving anything away—this is the premise laid out on page one. I do like that they’re both older: 33 (as in Obstetrics, in Harlequin-time that’s practically ancient). But that doesn’t save them from some pretty immature behavior (mostly on Kat’s part), and considering they’re supposed to be lifelong friends who talk about everything, the lack of communication between them now seems contrived. I loved Marco, though. I guess I have a soft spot for strong and silent types after all.

On a side note, what I want to know is: what’s with the rash of Hqn books featuring neurodegenerative diseases lately? Each time the hero or heroine is traumatized from having witnessed a parent suffering from Huntington’s disease (2 books), early onset Parkinson’s (1 book), and in this case some generic (unnamed) motor neuron degenerative disorder. So the H/h is adamant about not wanting children out of fear of passing on the gene to another generation—but also refuses to get tested to see if (s)he’s a carrier. Until of course the unexpected pregnancy forces the issue.

Anyway, this book is a short, enjoyable read. And yes, I’m a sucker for the happy ending.

it was my first book from this author and I ended it with happy feeling.
First, I appreciated a lot of thing from this book. those things were such as the length, span time in the story a few short weeks, the friendship not only between the two main characters but the clique of friends includind Conor, Luke.
this book also had some sense of humor.
What I didn't really like was the French. I have seen worse in some book using a foreign language and made few or minor or major mistake. here not that much like 2 but it didn't feel right to me. it was cold.
anyway I pretty enjoyed the story and the little twist.

I enjoyed the first half of this book immensely. Unplanned pregancy, friends to lovers, check and check. Then things got ridiculously overdramatic and I couldn't wait for the book to be over. Plus it drove me nuts that Marco and Kat kept agreeing to talk but NO ONE EVER SAID ANYTHING!

There was a LOT of revelations, but it was well-paced and so it didn't feel overwhelming or melodramatic. Well, a little melodramatic but not in a bad way. :D

I liked both of the characters a lot. I liked the resolution. Good story.

The story had a bit of a twist in it, but was frustrating because you just wanted to scream at the characters to say something!
