Beckett had started to get jaded. Disgusted by his surroundings on Mardi Gras, he slipped away and stumbled upon a sight that burned him to his core. Unfortunately for him, his sight was hindered by the blinds closing on him. But not before he got an eyeful of the daring woman.

He was wearing a mask at the time, so his sight, also known as Alyssa, didn't recognize him as her business rival. But at the business meeting they had the next day he certainly recognized her. Beckett couldn't help but want to see more of that unrestrained side of Alyssa, the glimpse he had the other night wasn't enough. But business came first...for Beckett but also for Alyssa.

Both Alyssa and Beckett's characters were likable, they had gone through heartache that had been caused by their families. I personally really liked Beckett, he was a perfect gentlemen. Even when Alyssa was drugged and temped him he still held a firm reign over himself. Beckett's father didn't care much for him, he had kicked him out of his house as soon as Beckett had turned eighteen. But with his charm and leadership skills Beckett managed to get very successful on his own. Beckett's father was a truly disgusting figure, trying to sabotage his own son now that he's making it on his own.

Alyssa was pretty sad, cute and Beckett brought out the sexy in her. She wasn't aware of the looks men gave her as she did her best bury herself in her work. She was appalled at her own behavior , at the craving the masked Beckett awoke in her. For which I blame her stepmother, this person spread vicious lies about her and her morals which caused Alyssa's father to lose his respect for her and pretty much shunned her. As much as Alyssa blamed her stepmother she also blamed Beckett, she believed he destroyed her chance to fix her relationship with her father. Which in a way was pretty far fetched. But it would guarantee for a dispute when she would find out that her masked stranger was non other than Beckett.

Had expected to see more of the evil stepmother but am glad I hadn't seen more of her. Beckett's father's appearance was more than enough for this short read. I liked how the business deal that brought them to formally meet, wasn't forgotten in their whirlwind romance. All in all this is one of the better Harlequin books I've read.

I've always thought Kira Sinclair has a beautiful way with words. I love her style and I enjoyed this book, both the story line and her writing. The end dram was too contrived for my tastes, however, and bumped the book down from four stars to three and a half.
