Three and a half stars.
Tired of the pointless life of pleasure Gabe has been living for nine years, he returns to Wolf Creek, Arkansas, the town where he was brought up. Now he w ants to try with his recent Christian faith, to repair the damage he had done. Dr Rachel Stone had her heart broken by Gabe nine years earlier. She hoped never to see him again, even though she has an eight year old tangible reminder of that brief time in the form of her son, Danny. When Gabe ends up at her surgery needing medical attention, Rachel Is forced into dealing with him, using her medical skills to restore him physically. Not even her father knows who Danny’s father is, but with Gabe home it is imperative no one realises how much Danny looks like Gabe. She just wants Gabe out of her life, but then he announces he is staying. How can she keep him from finding out Danny is his son? Or should she just tell him before someone else notices the resemblance and spills the beans?
I really liked Rachel and her father Edward, who is so supportive of his daughter and grandson. But Danny is the real star of this story. He is guaranteed to steal the reader’s heart as he does Gabe’s. Gabe’s brother Caleb and his wife Abby are both interesting characters. Abby is a forgiving and determined woman and has a pivotal role in some events that occur. Some others who play a crucial role are not so likable, despite what they profess to believe.
This is predictable in some aspects, but enjoyable nonetheless. It is very definitely Christian with a lot of talk about faith, forgiveness and second chances. Despite some reservations, I enjoyed it.
A story of family, both the positive and negative aspects of parenting, community, friendship and romance, along with some danger and unexpected characters who appear.
The story is set in the late 1880s and is book 2 in a series about Wolf Creek, but it reads fine without having read book 1.

It was a very eventful story. Gabe came back to town and set Rachel's life into a tail spin. 😵 Of course the towns biggest gossip was the one to drop the bomb about Gabe being a father (much to her delight 😏) but he handled it great. 😍 Rachel got put in her place 🙂 about her part in the "relationship" and that made me like her more. You were not the victim Rachel. 😒 Libby coming back to town was a bit of a shocker 😮 and I don't care much for Win but Blyth seemed nice. Really like Penny Richards series so far and I hope the remaining books are just as good or better. 😁

(child born out of wedlock, violence, adultery, gossip) The plot was interesting, although I don't think . I also felt this had a lot non-Christian plot items for a Christian book--I docked it a star for that.

Faith and Redemption

Good and bad beginnings in a home can shape our lives. Sometimes it takes years to overcome and get on a road o happiness and peace. Rachel and Gabe's story isn't that different from many today. Faith that God is always with us and a relationship through prayer is what He desires.

Meh... wasn't bad, but I kind of felt like there was something missing in the characters relationship. Not sure exactly why I didn't love the book.

MY REVIEW

What a great book this one was! It is so true that in life sometimes we blame another person for the trouble we got into without admitting to ourselves that we had the final decision in our actions, so we are just as much to blame. When we can realize that and truly forgive ourselves and the other person, we can find ourselves with fewer bumps in the road and a brighter outlook. I find the easy part is 'saying' I forgive, the hard part is to follow through with our actions, when we can do that, we have truly forgiven.

This is not listed as a series but I would suggest that if you find yourself wanting to read this book you should read "Wolf Creek Wedding" first as they deal with the same family and the hard life Caleb and Gabe had growing up. I don't think you will be disappointed in either book

This is the second in the Wolf Creek series. Loved it! Great stand alone but made a little richer if you have read the first one Wolf Creek Wedding. Penny Richards has taken a real place back in time and woven in her fictional characters.

The characters are real with good points and bad points. You get enough backstory peppered in to the main story line to understand why they are the way they are. It is a romance, so you know it will describe how the characters feel, but it has enough description of the physical situation they are in and what they are doing about it, to make it fully rounded.

I close my eyes and I go wandering down the streets of Wolf Creek, past the café smelling of chicken and dumplings, past the Dr.'s house, and the church and down to the creek. I can taste home made lemonade on a hot afternoon.

I will be the first to admit that I am not normally a romance reader, but this series has bridged that gap for me. If you like real life characters searching for a good, happy life filled with love, I think you will enjoy this book.

Good read. Kind of a retelling of the Prodigal Son story, only not. The hero's father would never have welcomed him home and neither does much of anyone else. Especially not the heroine, a hometown girl he looked up while away on his riotous living. She fell in love with him but he only left her with a little reminder of his visit--her son. We know this pretty much right up front, and when he turns up injured, as the town doctor, she patches him up, but she's still furious with him. It's a good story of how they work their way back to each other, but I found it seriously implausible that she would have been able to stay in medical school while pregnant AND unmarried back in the 1800s. They wouldn't even let married pregnant women stay in college in the 1930s and 40s! My cousins' grandparents got married secretly because the college didn't allow married students at all, back in the early 1920s. But this was glossed over quickly as unimportant, so it was fairly easy to ignore how totally ridiculous it was. The story is good. Well worth reading

He's been irresponsible and self centered since childhood. While in Missouri he takes advantage of an opportunity with a vulnerable young woman from "home"; he flees to the next adventure. After he's gone, she finds herself in a (1877) "bad girl" situation. Fast forward nine years. She is now the small town physician who finds him in the back of a wagon near death's door.
How can she put aside the hurt feelings? How can she act like a professional with him in her clinic?
How can she keep him from her son who is so attracted to him?
Can she believe his stories about his childhood; about his faith and repentance?
Why is the town busy-body so busy being mean and spiteful?
How will his brother react to having him back when he was such a screw-up?
Who is the woman the telegraph agent said is coming?
What affect will she have on the little town?
Come join us in Wolf Creek, Arkansas for the answers to these and so many more questions.

4.5 Stars

Arkansas 1886

During Gabe's Gentry reckless youth, he meets up with Rachel Stone while she is studying medicine. Their short interlude leaves her pregnant and later returns to Wolf Creek unwed and in disgrace.

Ten years go by when Gabe returns to his hometown of Wolf Creek in order to restore his relationship with his brother and Rachel. Throughout the book Rachel struggles with forgiveness and her attraction to Gabe. Inspirational message is subtle and nicely woven into the story. Loved the charming rogue Gabe!

I did feel the ending a little rushed, (my reason for 4.5 rating) but overall it is well written and entertaining.
My first book from this author and it left me interested in reading more about the newly arrived characters to Wolf Creek.

Wolf Creek Homecoming by Penny Richards is a very good Historical book. Gabe Gentry was forced to leave town by his dad. Gabe then got a bad reputation. While visiting another town he ran into Rachel Stone who was working toward being a doctor. They had a three week fling. Gabe then just up and left only leaving Rachel a note. Nine years later he returns to his home town. Where Rachel is now a doctor with a nine year old son. Turns out the boy is Gabe's son. Gabe's mother who left Gabe and his brother when they were young, returned to their home town also. A lot goes on in the story. A must read.

Gabe left home years ago with his inheritance and no plans to ever return. After running in to Rachel in the city while she was becoming a doctor, they spent a few weeks together which resulted in a child. He never knew until 9 years later when he finally returns to Wolf Creek where Rachel is now a doctor.

It takes a while but after some time he learns of his son, discovers secrets about his mother, and we even learn more about why he left town all those years ago.

Fast paced story that will keep your attention and keep you guessing as to how things will turn out.

I was looking for a quick read that I didn't have to think about, and picked this book off my shelf. I was pleasantly surprised.
This is a lovely little story, with Christian themes, about Gabe who runs off and sows his wild oats, and later returns, much like the prodigal son.
Years ago, he had gotten Rachel pregnant, but left town before he knew the truth. When he returns to town, he will discover he's now a father, but is he ready for the responsibility?

A quick read about judgement, love, family and forgiveness.

This was a really great read. There was a lot of comic relief that just had me giggling every chapter or so. Not to mention, the characters are so endearing. Gabe and Rachel -and especially Danny- just were perfect as a family and I really enjoyed getting to know them and the additional characters as well. I eagerly await the next book :)

A story of redemption. Mistakes made by the main characters and how, after several years, their mistakes became front and center. Dr. Rachel had a very tough time overcoming. At times I would get impatient with her, but then I wondered how I would have handled those things,in that time? A thoroughly enjoyable yarn and I'm waiting for the next one! Hope I get to meet Penny one day.
