When Meredith Morehouse, curator of the eclectic Imogene Museum, and her friend, George, narrowly miss death via explosion, Meredith’s curiosity instinct kicks in. The explosion could’ve been accidental, but if not, who was the target?
Meredith’s about to take the witness stand in Sockeye County’s trial of the decade. George is a semi-retired fisherman. But George’s earlier hint that he needs to talk to Meredith’s new beau, hunky tugboat captain Pete Sills, about something he’s seen indicates not all is peaceful on the mighty Columbia River.
Can Meredith and Pete sort out George’s frightening suspicions before someone puts one or both or all three of them out of commission?
Jerusha Jones lives in a small town in the west end of the Columbia River Gorge. When she grows up, she fully intends to be a feisty old lady. In the meantime, she regularly maxes out her library's lending limit, has happily declared a truce with the clover in the lawn, but is fanatical about sealing up cracks in her old house, armed with a caulking gun. Due to the number of gaps she has yet to locate, however, she has also perfected her big spider shriek.
Jerusha loves wool socks, Pink Lady apples with crunchy peanut butter, scenery of breathtaking grandeur, and weather just cool enough to require a sweater, all of which are plentiful in the Pacific Northwest. She is eternally grateful to have escaped the corporate world with its relentless, mind-numbing meetings and now writes (or doodles or fantasizes or cogitates or stares out the window or whatever you want to call it) full time.
While this was not my favorite of the series, it did pick back up about 55% of the way through. It felt slow and dragged a little but once it picked up, it really picked up -- with a bang!
As mentioned with the third book in the series, it's kind of hard for me to look at these books separately, since I read them back to back to back. But this one stood out a bit more – which is bound to happen when a book starts out with a literal bang. The stakes are a bit higher this time around, and it's a good ride.
It was good to see Meredith's friend George again – I was so enjoying that first scene – and then >boom<.
My only quibble in this one was that Meredith did a lot of nose wrinkling; it seemed like every few pages came "I wrinkled my nose". But I can live with it, it's such an enjoyable series. Highly recommended.
The usual disclaimer: I received this book via Netgalley for review.
This is the fourth book in the Imogene Museum Series. This is a cozy mystery series, centered around a private museum in a sleepy Washington State town. Meredith Morehouse is the curator of the museum, and manages to always be at the center of every mystery and crime in the area. She's a bold, intelligent woman who loves her community and often gets herself into sticky situations whilst trying to do the right thing.
The previous books have all been quite sequestered; although new individuals have been introduced from out of town, it's been focused on a small community with fairly small, yet interesting and intriguing plots.
In "Tin Foil" however we have a bigger plot at hand. A bomb has gone off, and it seems there's something extremely serious going on. Now since this is a short book (it took me 90 minutes to read) I don't really want to go into plot detail as it'll give it away - but I will say that I felt that the crime this book is centered around was a little bit bigger than the usual cozy mystery with the museum featuring very little, and that did take me out of the immersion a little bit.
There were of course some local subplots - the wrapping up of the previous book with the trial that Meredith is a key witness for, as well as some run-ins with local wildlife, brought back a little of the community feel. As usual there is humour, charming and quirky characters and a teeny bit of romance thrown in as well.
It's still a really enjoyable read, and I'd recommend it for those who have enjoyed the other Imogene Museum Mysteries. I'm looking forward to reading book #5, but hope that it returns the focus to a local mystery and the museum.
My thanks to Jerusha Jones, Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for providing me with a review copy of this book.
This is the best book in the Imogene Museum Series so far. Meredith is testifying against a killer and her friend George is hurt in an explosion. Something sinister is going on by the river as another bomb explodes on Pete's boat and another is found under her trailer. Great mystery that flows so you can't put this one down.
This mystery has explosions, gunshots, shady deals, wild animals, and romance! The Sockeye County, Columbia river, campgrounds, and museum settings were lovely. I enjoyed the mystery as well as the romances. I do wish a tranquilizer gun had been used in one part instead of a rifle. I recommend this book to cozy mystery readers! For me, this was the first experience with this series; however, this is the fourth Imogene Museum Mystery novel. Meredith Morehouse is the curator of the Imogene Museum, an eclectic collection of bits and bobs that keeps expanding when Rupert Hagg (the rather eccentric museum director) sends in finds from across the globe. Jones notes that Rupert "takes the responsibility very seriously, if spasmodically and tangentially" (20); that's representative of Jones' economically descriptive style.
Frances (Frankie) Courtland is the gift shop manager, and she has her own subplot here, having had her distinctive car stolen, being in the market for a new vehicle, and possible being in the market for a boyfriend, too. Meredith tries to keep an eye on her choices, since Frankie is fresh back on the scene and rather new to town.
Meredith and her friend George are injured in an explosion at his trailer that turns out to have been a bomb. George remains in the hospital much of the book, but the bomb was the result of his snooping on some illegal activity on the Columbia. Tugboat captain Pete Sills is ever-present, and very much in the thick of it here; his and Meredith's relationship is chugging right along. When Meredith's trailer is attacked as well, Meredith's brain kicks into gear and comes up with a plausible solution, which she has to track down.
Throughout all this intrigue with the explosions, Meredith is testifying in a trial regarding her ex-fiancé, which is stressful in and of itself.
Plenty of subplot and so many solid characters here to keep you interested. I'm not sure if they've been flushed out in previous books, but there was a feeling that some were coming into their own here. Sheriff Marge Stettler seems here to stay. As I said before, Jones has a wonderfully descriptive style. Here's another example where you get quite an image: "Fat bumblebees ricocheted off petals, too pollen laden to fly straight. I sympathized with them because I was being bounced around too, although instead of flowers, it was from one disaster to the next, without any control over my trajectory" (re Meredith, p 168).
Jones is obviously familiar with the Columbia River: its scenery and life along it. This shows through in the setting she creates in Sockeye County. The rest Imogene Museum Mystery series is queued up on my library card for the fall!
Part 4 of the series after taking the time to read something completely different. I noticed some changes in this one. Without opening the book, you can still recognise it as a part of the series because of the picture of the museum, but in the story itself, its part is only minor. A pity, I thought because I feel that it fits less.
What I did like was that the author inserted more action. The kind of action that reminds me of Janet Evanovich and that I adore. It's so over the top that it is funny. What I also approved of was the addition of a bit of romance.
The changes mean that I had to adjust a bit. I was used to the structure used before and I liked it. Was it a deliberate choice in order to give the readers something different? I don't know yet whether I prefer this or the other. :)
It also seemed impossible, as reader, to find out who the culprits were. Always fun to be able to make your own investigation, so I was a little bit dissapointed here.
Conclusie
Slechter? Nee. Anders? Ja.
Was itt less good? No. Was it different? Yes. I am anxious to find out what will happen in part 5. I rate this one 3 stars.

. Meredith is soon to take the stand and testify at the murder trial of her ex-fiancé, Ham, who was killed in Book two, Doubled Up. While her friend George tells Meredith that he needs to discuss something with her and Meredith's gentleman friend Captain Pete Wills. Suddenly there is an explosion and they are lucky to be alive although George is hurt. then another bomb explodes and another is found. Something sinister has come to Flatts Landing and seems determined to eliminate Meredith and those around her.
Although there is a bit more violence in the fourth book than the others but it is still a clean and very entertaining story with characters I have come enjoy dearly. I learn something new with every new book in the series and I look forward to many more new Imogene Museum mysteries from Ms. Jones in the future. The plots are well planned and laid out so the story flow smoothly. There are plenty of twists and turns with a few unexpected surprises along the way. A series t be enjoyed by any mystery lover.

Frankie, Meredith's employee at the Imogene, is dating a farmer who has a large piece of land. The farmer is responsible for harming George, trying to set a bomb at Meredith's and attacking Meredith and Frankie. All ends well since the farmer is caught.
Can Meredith and Pete sort out George’s frightening suspicions before someone puts one or both or all three of them out of commission?(less)
As Meredith Moorehouse is about to take the witness stand in the murder of her ex fiancé her friend George an ex fisherman nearly escapes death from an explosion. Seemingly suspicious is that George wanted to talk to her boyfriend Pete beforehand.
Meredith once again finds herself in peril as she finds herself involve in nefarious dealings. Can they figure out what is going on before the three o f tem become victims?
In book 4 of the series takes us on a nice ride as we learn more about the other side characters.
This is the fourth in the series and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. The characters are great, I love Meredith and how she interacts with the other supporting characters in the book as the story develops, I am history and crime nerd so books based in and around a museum and with a crime/cosy mystery twist are like heaven to me, each book is so different in terms of the main plot too which is brilliant. Really enjoyed it, a lovely way to spend a few hours, genuinely thrilled I have found this author and series. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Something is fishy in Platts Landing and Meredith seems to be in the middle of it. While stressing over her testimony in the trial of her ex-fiancee's murder, her friend's mobile home is blown up. This time Meredith has too much on her plate to try and investigate but of course she is pulled in anyway. An excellent continued installment in a solid cozy series.
A preview copy of this book was provided by NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't like this one as much because it was more intense with more people getting hurt and not as much time at the museum. I still enjoyed it though. I love this series!!
I enjoyed reading this book as much as I have the previous ones in the series. Purchased the remaining books in the series as soon as I finished this one. Highly recommend to cozy mystery fans.
Strong characters and setting. Enjoyed reading the entire series and each book for better. Looking forward to another book(s) to continue with this cast.
