All I wanted was a fresh start, not to be caught in some surly dragon’s crosshairs.

When I took a job at the Monster Relations Bureau, the last thing I wanted was to stand out. There’s just one problem — a grumpy, unapproachable dragon shifter who can’t keep his golden eyes off me.

Getting involved with Ewan Blair is the definition of a bad idea. Not only is he completely off-limits as the Bureau’s Director, but the way he looks at me — like he’d devour me one moment, and wishes he never met me the next — should be enough warning to stay far away.

But I’ve always had a reckless streak, and with each forbidden touch, each wickedly provoking argument, and each time we set it all aside and give in to the flames between us, I’m more and more of a goner.

With my job and my heart on the line, I’ll have to decide just how much I’m willing to risk on him, and hope I don’t get burned in the process.

“For living life. For having a spark that wouldn’t be contained. ”

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed reading Kenna’s Dragon! The plot was amazing… I love how we all “know” they’ll be together but there’s still that will they won’t they written into the book. It was full of detail from the work atmosphere to the friendships that were being built/ continued through the novel. The spice was top tier, and I loved that while we had to wait a minute we didn’t wait to long for them to get it on 😭. I love that the fangs came into play 😅🥰. The story is well rounded with a good amount of spice/ tension which is great when your not looking for an insta love “quick read”.
I genuinely can’t wait for more releases of the bureau series and hopefully other worlds to come 🙌🏽🥹!!

Just not it.

I had high hopes as I quite enjoyed the first book in this series. We saw already a bit of the two main characters of this book in the first, so I was curious how their story would play out. The story was off to a fast start, and it made me excited to see how it would go, but I was so disappointed with how the story progressed. Around the 40% mark, I was losing interest, and by 70%, I was so done with the characters. Blair is just straight-up a loser. I get that I lost his mate, but he just made so so so many mistakes with Kenna that his actions were not justified anymore. If he had been a bit earlier with his confession I would have liked this book more but after all the crap he had done, it felt a little too late. Also, Kenna, girl, stand up for yourself.

Alas, this one was not for me. Hopefully, the next one is better, as I do enjoy this writer's books.

Genre: dragon, office romance, mates

This was OK. I liked that it was a dragon/paranormal meets office romance. However, I didnt connect to the characters and the story just felt a bit flat and a bit boring.

After loving the first book, I eagerly bought the second.

#JusticeForKenna

The heroine deserves so much better than what she got in this absolute douche bag.

When they first locked eyes, it is evident that they both know that they are mates. When she asked him if that's what happened, he denies it. And he proceeds to deny her being his mate until about 90% into the book. In the meantime, he says that it's only about sex and he treats her like garbage. Even if a woman is not your long term partner, I expect you to treat her with kindness and dignity and not just use her like a sex object.

Sadly, instead of telling him to go jump off a tall building, Kenna is all in! But she blames herself for feeling confused and wanting more instead of realizing that he is constantly pushing and then pulling and then pushing her away again and that behavior is not acceptable.

The worst part of this book is that it's obvious that he knows that he's being awful and yet never changes. There's even a point where I had hope because he looks up the name of a therapist. You'd think that he would go to therapy and learn how to share his feelings but no. Even after that, she has to do all the emotional labor in their "relationship".

He has multiple friends confronting him and he never says "you're right. I messed up. Here's what's going on with me. Can you help me be better?" Nope. He just lies to them over and over again that he's fine and he's treating her well and they aren't mates.

The author's writing is good. I really feel like I get to know the world and the characters. Sadly, she wrote an absolute douchebag as romantic male lead.

This is a romance where I absolutely cannot stand the male main character and felt like he was allowed to be the worst kind of person. The heroine does all the work and feels all the pain. There is no groveling and the dude gets what he wants without waiting or growing. At the end, the heroine is absolutely broken and he leaves her alone with no word for a MONTH. But when he decides he MUST see her and she's not where he put her, he immediately is able to track her down and get her forgiveness and love.

I also hated how much the best conversations happen only inside character's minds. I can't tell you how many monologues I had to listen to that ended up being never spoken aloud.

If you would like to see a more mature emotionally healthy male hero, this is not the book for you. If you'd like to see groveling that makes sense, this is not the book for you. If you don't like doormat heroines who forgive too easily, this is not the book for you.

A Rare Miss

Kenna felt like a doormat in this book. Her New-Kenna attitude did not show up the way I expected it to. I wish she stood up for herself against the obvious brushing off by Blair/Ewan. I would have been happy if she did it earlier, before the 5th or 6th time he literally tells her “I’m sorry for treating you this way, but I won’t change.”

The end seemed too easy. There was a small time jump - but Blair didn’t ~show~ how he changed. It was all words from him over the course of a few days. It could have been better, I wish the reader saw tangible changes in his behavior toward Kenna, not just some personal self-growth.

Although this new job at the Monster Relations Bureau isn’t Kenna’s dream job, she hopes it is her chance for a new beginning. It’s on her first day she crosses paths with the sexy grumpy dragon-shifter Ewan Blair. Who also happens to be the Bureau’s Director. Kenna knows pursuing anything with Blair is a terrible idea. But between stolen touches and arguments, Kenna finds it harder and harder to stay away.

“And I’d like to stretch my wings and sink my claws in a bit while I’m fucking you, Kenna.”

😮‍💨 I devoured this book and read it in less than a day. Leigh Miller’s novella for this series was my first introduction to monster romance, and I have not looked back 🥵.

The characters in this story were so lovable. I loved getting to know Kenna more in her book. She is so sassy and takes no shit from Ewan Blair. Her witty comebacks had me cracking up especially seeing how they got Blair so riled up. And Ewan Blair. This sexy dragon-shifter of a man was 🔥. Don’t get me wrong, there were moments I wanted to hit this man outside of his head, but he redeemed himself in other ways 😏.

The spice in this book was 💯! I can’t wait for whatever monsters Leigh wants to bring my way because 😮‍💨.

Thank you to Leigh Miller for the opportunity to read this ARC; all opinions are my own.

It was an enjoyable book, but some of the things I loved about Nora’s Kraken were things this one didn’t have as much of. There was never any disrespect of boundaries or abuse, but there wasn’t the adorableness that the first book had and Kenna’s anger and hurt get sorta swept aside?

I did like that we get to see Ewan work through his grief and emotional issues, but it felt rushed

Enjoyable book. Not perfect. Probably won’t reread it the way I reread Nora’s Kraken.

Ughhhh I couldn't get behind this one at ALL (and I was crushed since I LOVE Nora's Kraken).

Blair drove me up the wall, he had a good thing right in front of him and for 85% of the book he's hung up on his dead ex he wasn't even mated too. I thought the rough brooding thing would be hot but it got old after a while of him retreating and constantly hiding / ignoring his feelings. Also, "ember" the constant nickname he uses for her grinds my gears (but maybe that's just me).

Then there's Kenna, who starts off as strong and knows what she wants until she caves, they end up having meaningless sex a bunch of times until she can't ignore that he doesn't love her / want to be mated. I can't fault her for catching feelings but these two together annoyed me SO MUCH. Like, you guys like each other, commit already!

First and foremost - THANK YOU to the author for sharing this ARC of Kenna’s Dragon with me! This review and all opinions shared within it are my own.

Secondly - if you are riding the fence on reading paranormal romance, you need to give the Monster Relations Bureau series a try before you make your choice. Nora’s Kraken was book one, The Orc From Accounting is the novella that comes next, and we build off both of those stories to jump into this read.

For a quick reference, our story takes place in a world where paranormals have been given voices in contemporary society. It’s not unusual to work alongside an orc, or to find yourself being a fated mate to a kraken shifter! {Insert another plug to read the other books in the series lol}

Kenna, upon starting at her first day of her RealWorldJob at the Monster Relations Bureau finds herself in a strange orbit with the director of the bureau, charming older Ewan Blair. And while Blair is convinced that this living pull he feels towards Kenna is nothing (men are apparently the same even when they’re shifters lol), he finds it impossible to ignore his baser instincts and leave Kenna alone.

The passion. The sass. The internalized misplaced guilt. I want Kenna to be my bestie - she refuses to accept anything less than what she deserves and I love her (even when it comes to a super hot dragon shifter). Also? PLS GIVE ME MORE OF THE MONSTER RELATIONS BUREAU!

I don’t want to share too much but if you’re someone who loves:
• forbidden romance,
• fated mates,
• self-love journey &
• bossy women with the men who can’t stay away from them (with a glorious dose of groveling)
.. then you have GOT to read Kenna’s Dragon. Add her to your TBR and read about our curvaceously fiery bestie!

Trigger warning/content warning? Available on the authors website!

Safety?
MMC had found a past fated mate 200 years ago. Her name was Lizzy and she died before they could mate (they wanted to wait until they were off of the ship). MMC’s experience of losing a mate made him distant from the FMC, and deny they were mates until almost the end of the book.
MMC and FMC are not virgins.
OM drama as in the FMC tries to go out on a date after meeting the MMC. They kissed but did not sleep together, and the OM kissed the FMC even though she didn’t want to.
OW in the fact that Lizzy was definitely a ghost (granted a faded one) in the potential new relationship between the MMC and FMC. MMC obviously had trauma when it came to having another mate.

My thoughts?
First of all, I would like to thank Leigh Miller for an arc in exchange for my honest review.
Secondly, I love this freaking book. I could not read this fast enough, and I found that the ghost of Lizzy was important. Not in the fact of I wanted the MMC to have his dead mate in the back of his head, but for the fact that the version of him 200 years ago was in love with Lizzy. The person he is now in present times was obviously meant for the FMC, hence them meeting. I was also relieved that Lizzy was dealt with respectfully, she holds a place in the MMC’s heart but time had dulled the wounds of losing her so it wasn’t like the FMC was constantly being compared to Lizzy.
That being said, for being such a smart man the MMC had the emotional intelligence of a rock in this book. It was a bit painful for me to read him *literally abducting the FMC from her date with the OM* and then still being in denial about her being his mate. His dragon literally reacted to the FMC the same way he reacted to Lizzy, and yet the MMC pushed down his feelings. It is almost like he should have trusted the inner dragon who seemed to have more of his shit together.
I tried my best to be sensitive to his feelings, and the trauma he had experienced but by the end of the book I was feeling bad for the FMC. She was the one to recognize the mating bond, and was rejected. Yet he still kept on pursuing her.
This definitely a book that kept me on my toes, and the spice was so good. I will most definitely be rereading this book!

Add Ewan Blair to the Dragon Daddy list.

I’m not typically a huge fan of shifter romance novels, but honestly I enjoyed both of the books in this series, immensely. Leigh Miller worked in just the right amount of angst, possession, and paranormal filth. All with an actual plot to back it up. Job very well done! If you’re going to read any books that make you think - seems like that would be a neat shape 🍆 - this is it. Would recommend.

Kenna's Dragon is a story filled with love, heartache, and a whole lot of smut! If you love fated mates, forbidden love, and dragon shifters all set in a modern world where mythical beings and humans coexist, this book is for you!

The story follows Kenna and Blair as they both fight against the unseen force that pulls each of them together. Blair is Kenna's bosses, bosses, boss which heavily complicates things. Blair also has more reservations about being with his mate than just being her superior at work. Kenna is trying not to mess up her life anymore than she already has, and sleeping with her boss definitely isn't a smart choice. Reading all of this will make you feel so fustrated, heartbroken, joyful, and just maybe make you want to sleep with a dragon shifter.

I loved reading about both their pasts and how they struggled to move past the past. No matter how frustrated I was with them, I was rooting for them. Leigh Miller always writes wonderful stories with amazing spice! Thank you for the opportunity to arc read another one of your masterpieces!

Eh, this series just doesn't seem to be for me. I'm not sure if I want to give the next book a shot or not, but we'll see. There was just way too much baggage in this book. The miscommunication. No talking to each other. The third act breakup. And then the groveling. The extended groveling that I just rolled my eyes at. I was screaming at my Kindle for Kenna to just hurry up and forgive him already. I got my HEA, but boy, was it a trip to get to!

As a sequel to Nora's Kraken this book was just okay. I absolutely loved the first book in this series and I was really excited for Kenna's Dragon that I jumped right into after finishing the previous book. The magic of the first book wasn't fully there for me in this one. Usually I'm a sucker for book series that follows a different couple in each installment. But the whole time while reading this one I just wanted more of Nora and Elias and their story.

The beginning started so well! There was so much tension between the main characters, Kenna and Blair. I really liked the different personalities and how they clashed. Gotta love that grumpy and sunshine trope.

Around the half way point I started losing interest in the overall plot and the main couple. It was a never ending cycle over and over again till the end.

Overall, this was still a good book with plenty of spice. If the author continues the series I will keep giving it a read.

It was okay, I personally don't love books that spend 95% of the story with characters unsure of their feelings and I really dislike FMCs that think one thing and then do another

For example FMC saying she going to stay away because he's going to hurt her emotionally and then practically having sex with him, but this happens x10

Much preferred Leigh's book: Nora's Kraken

“You’re the most precious thing in the world to him, ember. The greatest treasure. Worth more than any hoard. Worth more than his own life.”

This was way more angsty for a fun, paranormal romance than what I was expecting. But, I found this really quite interesting. From the first moment Blair lays eyes on Kenna, he's completely lost with his dragon instincts. He wants to hoard her away like treasure. But despite having these fated mate-like feelings, he denies that Kenna is his mate. Instead of acting on this strange impulse, he shuts it down and acts completely cold to her.

However, days later, when he finds her on a blind date, his possessive streak takes over. He acts out and essentially kidnaps her. Again, when Blair tries to control his dragon instincts, he is back to being cold to her, refusing to explain his impulse reactions with her. At this point, you would probably hate Blair with a passion. However, as annoying and cold as he is, you root for him as he slowly opens himself up to Kenna. But he is so in denial because he believes he already met his mate hundreds of years ago. They never bonded because she was killed before it happened. The guilt and trauma from that are what make Blair refuse to believe that Kenna is his mate. And he doesn't want to waste her life. You feel for him because he believes she deserves love. Are they mates? Can a dragon have another mate? If they're not mates, then what is this intense pull towards each other? There's no such thing as two fated mates in a lifetime, right?

Neither of them can fight the pull. But as Blair keeps telling Kenna that it's not a mate thing, she decides to offer a sort of friends-with-benefits thing. To enjoy what it is for as long as it is. Kenna is strong-willed and knows what she wants. She knows that this will burn and destroy her in the end. But she's willing to have this fleeting moment with him. And that just broke my heart. I just loved Kenna! Of course, it all comes crashing down. Blair would just keep insisting that he could give nothing more than just casual. Kenna knew this, so she prepared herself for it. But then Blair would act in ways that blurred the lines of just being casual, leaving Kenna confused and unsure. When finally, everything just implodes on them. And the angst and heartache 💔💔💔. I can't reveal much, but the angst wanted me to read more.

There's grovelling in this book. And Kenna doesn't make it easy! I hate it when the guy screws up, and the girl is a doormat and forgives the guy with barely a grovel. Kenna really made Blair work for it! You go, girl!
The grovelling was sweet. He doesn't push her. Or force her. Instead, he's tender and calm and tells Kenna over and over again to take all the time she needs. He was very patient and endearing. Even when Kenna doesn't make it easy, he doesn't grumble or complain. Blair just smiles and rises up to the challenge. The grovelling in here is just chef's kiss!
And that just brought the rating up more for me.

This book needs more love! It's a very quick read and easy to follow. It's a little frustrating at times with Blair, but it makes it interesting. Plus, the journey of watching a cold, unfeeling, impulsive, rude grump turn into a patient, caring, happy, relaxed sweetheart was worth it in the end. 🩷🩷

“I’m going to spend the rest of my damned life doing everything I can to make you happy, Kenna.”

"Just a little ember, aren't you? Ready to spark a flame and burn me to ash."

This is the second instalment in the Monster Relations Bureau series and the story of Ewan and Kenna.

I have jumped into this right after reading the first book because I loved that story and I just didn't want it to end. And I wasn't disappointed this time either; and even if I did have a few reservations there weren't big enough to affect my four stars.

We met both main characters in the first book already which provided a bit of a background for them, and I was happy to see their story unravel as they finally crossed paths.

Ewan Blair, the Director of the Bureau himself, and a dragon shifter. An actual dragon. An ancient fearsome creature driven by powerful instincts even Smaug would find to be more than an even match for his own. And with some serious Gollum vibes on top of all of that.
But he's also a man. A flawed man with grief in his heart he pushed so deep he never managed to deal with, a stubborn man stuck in the trauma of his past.

I very much liked Ewan, even if I found him infuriating most of the book as he was incapable to deal with his own feelings, to open up at least a crack, or even just attempt to talk things through. Have an actual conversation. Let's be honest, he was an ass through most of it.
But perhaps this is why the ending was that much sweeter in the end, when he finally redeemed himself in the eyes of Kenna.

"To retreat would be unthinkable. A defeat my dragon can't allow."

Kenna, on the other hand, is funny and brave and wild and wears her heart on the sleeve. I liked Kenna too, though I found her cringeworthy a lot of the times as she blurted out something silly or inadvertently embarrassed herself some other way. I mean seriously, some of the things that came out of her mouth!
But then again, with her openness and honesty she was the one thing Ewan needed, even if he wasn't ready to admit it to himself.

"You're the most precious thing in the world to him, ember. The greatest treasure. Worth more than any hoard. Worth more than his own life."

And as we watched this whirlwind of events unwind between them, the underlying story was still present with Bureau at the forefront and a lot more politics than in the first book. I found trying to understand the social landscape very interesting.

I must admit these two main characters weren't my favourite but they felt extremely real nonetheless - likely because of (rather than despite) all the cringe and flaws and mistakes they made.
And the humour on all the pages helped a lot to alleviate some of the frustrations from how the story was developing.
I loved the banter between the two, I loved Kenna's sense of humour, I loved the dichotomy between Ewan's thoughts and words after he's seen her for the first time.

And it is a true testament to the author's writing and thought process that I have enjoyed this story thoroughly despite all the cringe and wanting to punch Ewan every time he started talking about shame, and despite the fact that the push and pull in their relationship didn't sit quite right with me most of the time.
Or perhaps all of this was exactly why the happy ending they finally got together felt that much more satisfying.

This was very entertaining and I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

Once again Leigh Miller shines bright with this one! I love this world she's crafted. It's filled with all sorts of creatures and humans and how they all adjust to working/living together. We finally get to see more of Ewan Blaire, the head of the Monster Relations Bureau. We had a small taste of him in book 1, but I was overjoyed to know he got his own book so quickly. He's a sweet but slightly broody, guilt ridden dragon, living in the past just going through the motions, when he meets Kenna. She's a curvy, vibrant, curly redhead with tons of sass, and also guilt of how she lived in the past. They feel a tug towards each other right away but Ewan denies it. Of course there's always those who are looking to undermine the non-humans but that's an underlying threat in this book. There's a few pop ups of strife or unrest here or there but then it goes away, and it's not the major focus of this particular book. Although, I feel like a storm is brewing. Who knows, maybe we will get more of that in the next few books? Back to Ewan and Kenna. They eventually clash together and then have to make a decision on whether they will stay in the past or move forward.

I LOVED this book. Leigh Miller does such a great job of finding a middle ground between sweet and cozy and dark and broody. It's not a soft romance but not a dark romance either. It has moments of each, which I think is why I like it so much. Not to mention her back and forth dialogue between Kenna and Ewan. She doesn't give two flips that he's her boss and he's just surprised because no one has ever really stood up to him before without knowing him for a long time. I also appreciated how she showed Kenna's regrets not necessarily as failures but just part of growing up and wanting more from life. But that's also not the whole point of the book either. She doesn't make that her 'thing' in other words.

The spice on this has a fast-slow burn then explodes into full blown spice overload. I think the characters had great chemistry, not forced, super hot, and while she did briefly highlight a bit of Kenna's body insecurity, it was not the focus, but still wonderfully well done. It isn't cover to cover spice, but when the spice is there it is fan-freaking-tastic.

I loved that we got to see more of Ewan shifting into his dragon and seeing Kenna interact with him as his dragon and everywhere in between. It definitely added another layer of fun and fantasy. In a book full of human and non-human creatures where no one blinks an eye at fantastical creatures, Leigh Miller still managed to make me still be in awe of her characters and the fantasy world they live in.

Spice: 5/5

I couldn’t put this down and yet this workplace romance didn’t come together for me and that was all Director Ewan Blair’s fault. Kenna deserved WAY better. Despite being noticeably and immediately drawn to her in the middle of a company meeting and going so far as to bring the new hire to his office on her first day, something he never does, Ewan is sure she can’t be his mate since his mate died 200 years ago. And thus begins his hot and cold dance, which includes abducting her in dragon form and stalking her, on top of trying to keep her close while telling her there’s no long-term prospect for them.

And that’s not even factoring in how inappropriate their relationship is without basic guardrails in place. Ewan needed to talk to Kenna about what a sexual relationship would mean for their workplace. It’s not clear whether workplace fraternization is okay, nor the rules for people in leadership positions. There are some allusions to how Ewan could get in trouble if this became known…not a good start. That makes it more unconscionable that he wouldn’t address it with her and make sure protections are in place for her job, which has already been affected by him kidnapping her in dragon form while she was in public. They should have discussed the rules for how to interact at work, if at all. He should have known better than to make any romantic overtures at work or use the interoffice messaging system to contact her. Like come on!! It did not endear him to me, that’s for sure.

Plus, he’s doing this under the misguided belief that there’s no way she can be his mate so all of these risks are ultimately very selfish on his part. She has the most to lose and he’s the one who won’t let her go. This was resolved way too late AND he did nothing to demonstrate that he had changed. I wish Kenna had stayed strong instead of letting him back into her life.

Characters: Kenna is a 27 year old curvy white Community Outreach graphic designer and communication assistant and an aspiring book illustrator. Ewan is a 500 year old white Bureau Director, dragon shifter, and former pirate. (He looks like he’s 40.) This is set in Seattle.

Content notes: MMC abducts FMC while he’s in dragon form, stalking (FMC blocks MMC’s phone number and friends refuse to give out her whereabouts but he tracks her down anyway), FMC’s date kisses her without consent, unethical workplace relationship, anti-paranormal sentiment and bigotry, past death of MMC’s mate (200 years ago; ship was attacked), past abduction of secondary character by her abusive ex, past death of MMC’s parents, unsafe sex practices (no condom for penetrative sex without discussing STI prevention/status; he takes medication that makes him dormant and unable to impregnate and she’s on the pill), on page sex, sex toy, mating bite, skinny dipping, alcohol, gendered pejorative, ableist language

Leigh Miller Making All of Us Wish For A Monster Mate

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Another impressive monster romance by Leigh Miller!! And this time with dragons!! I loved Blair when we met him in Noras Kraken, and when I saw he was our MMC I was so excited to see if he was gonna get the happy ending he certainly deserved. Then we were introduced to Kenna a woman in her late twenties who feels a little behind all her peers as her life has taken a bit longer to fall into place when she compares her life to others, but she’s determined to make her new life work… well until she meets eyes with her new dragon boss during an full office meeting and everything tilts on its head. Leading to a topsy turvy turn of events, growth, and spicy fun times. Not to mention we get a brief glimpse into what’s going on with Nora and Elias.

Honestly, I just really enjoyed this book. The plot while different from Demons Bride and Nora’s Kraken answered some questions the subplot left us with in Nora’s Kraken. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next with the Bureau, what was going to be uncovered and just how our favorite paranormal were going to figure things out.

And the romance was something I just couldn’t get enough of. I loved Kenna and Blair together! I loved that while Blair is a possessive alpha, he was also a cinnamon roll when it came to Kenna. I appreciated that he was willing to respect her decisions even if they were a detriment to him and the life he had worked so hard to build, as long as she was happy. I was also impressed at how the loss of a mate and the grief that comes with it was handled. It was just like BAM new characters cross eyes, fall in love and all thoughts of the lost mate was forgotten. No, instead we see some realistic grief in guilt, denial, and the eventual acceptance. Then we had Kenna are spitfire, sassy party girl who has decided it’s time to move on from party girl to full time working girl. And I just loved how that was handled, how it wasn’t just an easy turn around, how she still stumbled and bumbled around a bit trying to find her way. I loved Kenna from chapter one because honestly she was so relatable. And the way she fell hard for Blair but was willing to move at his pace made me love everything about their romance.

That’s enough out of me though as I don’t want to spoil anything! With that said, I highly recommend this book to all my monster lover readers!! If you’re looking for a quick spice, but slow burn love story, with a great plot, and amazing characters, then you absolutely won’t be disappointed in Kennas Dragon!!

HAPPY READING
