NU LOGIC is an adult science fiction novel that is written in a third person omniscient point of view with each chapter focusing on a different character. There is a whole slew of characters that ultimately contribute to this new Neology terror; some being the good guys, others being the bad. There is only a handful of characters that we see pop up during the entire book: Maddy, the incredibly talented teenage artist; her best friend Lisa, a teenage computer whiz; Dr. Janot, the mastermind behind Neology. These three people are the ones whose story line we see the most. There are a couple of secondary characters who appear often, as well, but you'll have to read the book to learn more about them. I don't want to make this review sound complicated! NU LOGIC is the second book in a series but it reads very well as a companion novel. I didn't read GLIDE, the first book, and still could completely grasp what was going on.

While I was completely intrigued by the premise and idea behind this book, it was the inclusion of a teenager who plays a big impact on the story that had me captured. Typically in adult novels, you only get the story told, well, from adults. But having a teenage protagonist was a great addition to the story and made it that much more relatable. Maddy and Lisa were my favorite characters. They were both brilliant in their own way and had a great voice. Maddy is the unsure artist whose paintings are more important than she thinks. After getting mixed up in a very public ordeal the year before, Maddy still has nightmares about what transpired, those dreams appearing in her work. She's also dating a boy who winds up working for a secret society by playing this Neology game. It's becoming the leading game worldwide. It's become such a phenomenon that more and more people are playing while doing activities in their daily life.

I loved Lisa, maybe even more than I liked Maddy. She's feisty and doesn't take no for an answer. She's the best friend every girl should have: the one who is there for you no matter what, doesn't take any crap from you, and makes you go out of your comfort zone. She helps Maddy break out of her shell and experience the world outside of her little art studio. Did I mention she's a computer whiz? Yeah, she can create or crack through any code you can think of, it's crazy!

If you love science fiction, technology, and mysterious events that can't be solved, you'll absolutely love this book. It's incredibly smart and leaves the reader asking a billion questions the whole entire time. There's missing people, explosions, cryptic messages, a diabolical plan that is slowly revealed one snippet at a time. There's a lot going on. Sometimes, to be completely honest, there was a little too much going on. There are a ton of characters we meet who, like I said, all play an important role. You don't realize their role until later though, so it just seems like a lot of subplots going on. Later, all these subplots do blend beautifully to create one giant, albeit scary, picture. There's also lots of very cool, and very complicated, technology mentioned. At the beginning, I was so lost. Gadget after gadget is mentioned but thankfully, Gourgey included footnotes for those of us who needed some actual information about each thing beside what the character was doing with it. These footnotes were like actual encyclopedia entries that included when they were created, for what purpose, and how they work. If you read the first book, you may not even need these footnotes, I'm not sure, but they are definitely helpful. Gourgey is extremely creative, I'm not sure how he came up with most of them. All I know is that I want some!

Overall, NU LOGIC was a great story. If you can get past not understanding everything at the beginning, you'll love trying to piece together everything that is happening. I wasn't initially sold on each chapter possibly introducing a new character but after things started to make sense, I thought it was a brilliant idea on Gourgey's part. I loved getting to see what was happening in the world outside of the couple of main characters' lives. Instead of getting just a small view, you got to see how each event was impacting other people and their role in helping or trying to take down Neology and Dr. Janot. The novel is long at times but you'll find that you want to know what is happening every minute. NU LOGIC is a science fiction fan's delight and won't disappoint!

Nu Logic took me a little while to get into because I hadn't read Glide. With the advanced technology and and a fairly wide cast of characters there was a lot to abosrb. The game of Neology was very interesting and reminded me of a much more immersive version of WoW.

The various technologies were very cool, especially the abilities that the knights were granted by Captain Magigate. There were times that I felt the story moved a little slowly due to the pure amount of explanation that was required to fully explain everything that was taking place and put it into context though. Other parts had me almost skimming to find out what was coming up in the next couple of pages.

I will have to go back and take a look at Glide and then reread this book at some point to see how much of a difference having all of the proper background really makes. This book was good enough that I look forward to doing that in the future.
