Despite the title, you are going to need other books because this one is a kind of strange collection of information, in a way it's more of a reference book. Part 1 starts off with the history of the guitar, care and other practical things, some Music theory, tab, then 10 pages of beginning songs. Part 2 has all the scales you'll ever need presented on the guitar fingerboard. The Music notation for the scales is not given, probably because this section is already about 100 pages long. Part 3 has the information on chords and an extensive chord dictionary. Some people might find the chord diagrams quite small, but every chord has five possible positions and the chords written out in standard notation. Part 4 and the two appendices have additional information on amps, recording, tricks and song writing. This book isn't all that expensive in paperback so it might be worth it just for the chord dictionary.
