My review of this book by Pamela M. Richter. I found it was a very good story filled with action and intrigue with a strong female heroine keeping you locked into the story until the very end. I gave it four stars, could have been five because I actually loved it but she has a few mistakes in the story that I hoped she has corrected. I received my copy a few months back and over looked it not reading it or reviewing it until now.
The story is set on a cruise ship where the heroine Lolita called Lo for short goes undercover as a private investigator being hired by the FBI to pose as the agent in charge, wife. He is her boss having hired her before on other jobs and was very successful in getting evidence on the bad guys. She always came through no matter what she had to do to collect the evidence. This investigation could cost her, her life. Being a good looking, sexy woman, Lo found men were easily attracted to her making it easy to get close to her targets but close could be deadly. Her targets do not hesitate to kill. Normally, a loner she has to put up with her employer questioning her every move and insuring she does her investigation by the book so everything would be admissible into a court of law. Not Lo's way of collecting evidence. Main Characters: Lolita or Lo as she is called is a former ex-con with a beautiful face and body that poses as the wife. Sent to prison for refusing to testify against her former family, she was married to a member of the Mob. When he was killed by a rival gang she had her heart set on finding her dead husband's killer. Having a law degree, she was intelligent, ass kicking female. Lance or cover name Dan is the agent in charge that Lolita finds herself working with. A handsome married man with a body that turns every woman on, he hired Lolita because of her past successful actions along with her good looks. This story the way it is written makes you feel like you are there. Very descriptive, emotional feelings along with clearly setting the scenes in the reader's mind. If you want a emotional, action packed adventure story to read, this book is for you. Here is the link for you. http://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Fun-Pame...
P.M. Richter’s ‘Deadly Fun’ turned out to be deadly fun for this reader. This straight ahead spy novel (with a tiny dabble of romance) takes place on the high seas and has a bit of a detective noir feel to it, though I can’t put my finger on exactly why it has that feel, but that should not be thought of as a bad thing.
The story brings two spies, Lo and Dan, aboard a Caribbean cruise ship where they are given the assignment to gather information from members of a crime family who are vacationing aboard the ship. Spying and information gathering ensues and we find out that Lo has ties to the crime family she didn’t realize existed.
The author writes the psychology of her characters from her own knowledgeable background and seems to have done her research when it comes to intelligence gathering, which makes the story line believable.
When I first began reading this novel I wondered how the author would manage the location restrictions inherent to a cruise ship, but Richter manages to handle the restrictions well and takes advantage of just about every location on shipboard including the ship’s ladies rooms. She also takes the reader on land to experience exotic ports of call, which was a nice change of pace.
Richter’s story is witty, well put together and well written. If I had one complaint it might be that there seemed to me to be a wee too much dialogue. But that is my personal opinion and should not keep a reader from enjoying this lively and fun romp over the high seas.
This is by far the best book I've read in weeks. Nothing more enjoyable than mystery and romance intertwined throughout the entire book making this a page turner because you just couldn't wait till the ending. Sometimes the reviews are so mixed here that you really don't know. Nothing I hate more than not finishing a book.
My pet peeve lately is that summaries are become complete "Spoiler Alert". I wish you could refrain from telling the entire story and just bring it to everyone's attention that you are telling the entire story.
I liked this book. The characters were good and very funny! Yes, there were some editing problems but not nearly as many as I normally see. Reminded me of Janet Evanovich and her Stephanie Plum character. A little mystery, a little action, a little romance and lots of fun!! Will definitely read more by Richter.
P.M.Richter never disappoints - her books grip from the first page, and build relentlessly, her characters are believable and her plots are tight. I found it hard to put this book down, so absorbed was I in the complex tale. Thoroughly recommended.
Deadly Memories, my third enjoyable read from author P.M. Richter. Well-written with intriguing characters. 10-hours 50-minute/359-pages. The second book in a row that begins slowly, almost to the point I was wondering about it (but after having read 2 of her books previously I knew better), but then it takes off, building to a crescendo, wait no spoilers here, buy the book, in whatever format, read & review the book. I was given an Audible copy of this book a year ago & am just getting around to listening to it. I'm voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Gregory Salinas’s excellent narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I'll definitely be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I couldn't give this a five as the villains were too inept and the heroine let her guard down too often, but she was smart, plucky, and deeply true to herself. I' m moving on to the sequel.
First the bad news - it appears to be a self-published book, and it has the problems of a self-published book - misspelled words, run-together sentences, paragraphs broken when they should not be, places where there were obviously meant to be section breaks and were not. The good news - it was a fun and exciting mystery, and I am glad I read it. It was not deep, but exciting. I was sincerely touched by how much the female protagonist loved her husband, who had died. The author is good at descriptive writing - almost too good. I got a little tired of hearing how beautiful the female protagonist is - I wanted to shout, "I get it! I get it! She's a stone-cold Fox." In the same vein, I am not sure I REALLY needed to know her bra size. That one paragraph read like something in a letters column of a "men's magazine." Still, it was exciting, fun, and I'm glad I read it. If anyone is in the mood for some good escapist literature, this is a good candidate.
This is a very tough one for me to rate. English problems and the beginning half of the book dragged. However, towards the latter half of the book, it was packed with fast moving action. Both characters had past issues and yet I could not feel compassion for them. 3.5 stars. Some parts of the story needed explanation, i.e., who does the hero really work for? 3.5 stars (In a nutshell, both the heroine and hero must appear as a married couple on board a cruise ship. Both are watching a target who appears rather sleazy and yet a dumbwit of a Mafia man. Both get their man.)
Good characters, good story, good dialog, and interesting location on a cruise ship. Even jumping the POV from one person to another works pretty well for a while. The middle might be better if it moved along faster without so much repeat of the protagonist's inner thoughts. When we already know the facts, the rehashing of emotion is more disruptive than revealing. But the story is good and I'll watch for more from this author.
I was not a fan of this book. I couldn't connect with the characters I found them very unrealistic there language and behavior did not seem natural. I didn't care for the writing style I don't think I'll be reading anymore by this particular
After a slow start, the story really picks up and I found myself unable to put this book down. Exciting, with a strong female lead. Would love to read more about Lo.
I was excited to get a copy as a First Reads Giveaway! I wasn't too sure what to expect but ended up really enjoying this book. It is a definite page turner with the perfect amount of suspense!
