A recluse since her accident, sheltered easterner Bellami James thought she was prepared for the challenge that awaited her in the New Mexico Territory. But when her "charge" turned out to be an embittered ex-deputy, Bellami had to wonder just what kind of mess she'd gotten herself into!
Trace O'Bannion was mad enough to spit nails. He'd show his interfering family what they could do with the sharp-tongued teacher they'd saddled him with. He didn't need--or want-- Miss Bellami James, especially not when she smelled of lavender and made him remember what it meant to be a man.
I wish the story only revolved around the MCs, not about the heroine's brother, Brooks and the hero's sister, Missy. It felt as if half the story was about the MCs and the other half about everyone else. A set up for the other books in the series.
Great book. I think at one point a date is mentioned, but it doesn't add up to the year of the story (and it wasn't the flashback on page 281), maybe I didn't read it properly though. I can't remember what page it was on. Some communication issues at the end. I didn't enjoy that. It worked out in the end, but Bellami should've told Trace she loved him. It would've save him some pain. But then he should've asked her who Brooks was, but I mean he was afraid of the answer in case she rejects him. And Clell giving Bellami a wolf is totally dangerous. I mean the wolf was biting Trace's arm after he woke up from the coma. And it didn't seem like Bellami or Trace had much food after the flash flood, so I don't know how they survived three days away from the house.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Slightly different to a normal historical western romance with its fun banter and enchanting characters. A devious family will go to any lengths to see a son / brother, who was blinded in a shoot-out, find his way in the world again and be the person he once was. With the help of a young woman, who has her own issues but is good with blind people, both help each other to find a way past their grievances. HEA ending.
This was such a sweet romance! I really enjoyed that it's not another "damsel in distress" situation. Plus, I love that it is set in New Mexico which is where I am from.
