Gabriel's Promise

Rate this book
Gabriel Sweeney is about to fulfill a promise long overdue; a promise made to an old army buddy who had been cut down in the same firefight that had put him in a coma for three months of his life. It might be six years late but better late than never right? Gabriel though having a rough idea of what’s left of Phil’s family from the many stories his old pal used to share is in no way prepared for the little sister with the pigtails and gamine smile who is now a woman with curves in all the right places, a head full of the most beautiful fiery red curls this side of heaven and the temper to match. With one look he’s hooked but will the headstrong beauty who likes to run unsuspecting salesmen off with her father’s old shotgun fall in line or will she run circles around him?

Gabriel Sweeney made a promise to his best friend Phil before he died. He would make sure his family was taken care of. As his own life took over it took six years to meet that promise, but he was there now and hoped it would all work out.

He never expected Samantha though or her father who was lovingly called Chief. His first meeting with Samantha has her pointing a rifle at him and a colorful choice of words. Sam is a firecracker and Gabriel's interest is peaked. When Gabriel decides she is his one, he had to figure out a way to navigate through the shark infested waters in order to land his booty.

Very funny. There were a couple of pages that had me laughing pretty hard. Sam is smart, very smart in certain things but a lot of her wisdom is from books like Jane Eyre, Jane Austin, etc. This was quite different for Jordan Silver books, entertaining read.

Too funny!!!

Loved this one!!! I really liked the interaction between the three main characters (yes, I said THREE!!!) Gabriel, Samantha, and Samantha's father Charlie who was a former chief of police until he was in an accident that left him in a wheelchair.

Gabriel was in the military with Philip who was Sam's older brother and Charlie's son. Phil died and Gabe came back in a coma for about three months. He promised Phil he would check in on his family and he finally came around six years after he came back. By then Sam was eighteen and it was insta-love.

SPOILERS AND UNPOPULAR OPINION AHEAD!
Ok this one was way way too confusing to follow. I had no clue what the hell they are going on about from one minute to the next and what's with all the insults here.
What the hell is with her father anyways?! That's not cool how he would always put her down for being herself and if he did not want her to be so rough around the edges then maybe he should have (and you can call me crazy here) but sent her to public school and stop insulting her and her behavior at every turn!
I know the hero was honoring his promise to this best friend but I think it would have been best if she and the hero had moved in together without the dad. He is just too much for a pregnant girl to take. You do not call your pregnant daughter FAT that is NOT FUNNY.
I did not find it that funny it had some funny moments. However, it was cleaner than JS usual books and that was a refreshing change.
Also why did I need so maybe points of view here!?
I think maybe she missed the police officer who arrested her and that's it! (Ok so I am exaggerating here). But it was very distracting as a reader. I did not even know why we needed her dads point of view. He just comes off as some creep with his inner working.
Holy crap! I will be giving this one back without buying.
Thanks Kindle Unlimited.
It's not my thing at all.
It's a totally safe book and it nice epilogue here but just not worth the tossing around I was subjected to here.

This book was funny AF. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in the mood for a comedy by this author, and so I found it super annoying and very silly. The FMC and her father were fantastic even if it was a bit much. The MMC made no sense, considering he didn’t even attempt to keep his promise to has dead army buddy for six years. No phone calls no letters. No checks in the mail. He did nothing. But he shows up with plans to half ass his vow and leave only to fall instantly in love with the retarded daughter/FMC.

Look, I know this is not a serious author. And I know her female leads have always been useless excuses for their gender and basically no better than blowup dolls for these smutt heavy books. But in no way is this FMC real. She talks like a hillbilly, thinks like a regency era naive virgin, acts like a modern girl tomboy, cooks like a chef while it’s never explained who taught her, was homeschooled but doesn’t want internet in the house because it’s useless, and of course she has the gratuitous porn gene that makes her a sex aficionado so the MMC can happily complain that he has a hard time keeping up with her. Not only that but it took 60-70% of the book for them to even get to the sex part of their relationship and then it’s mostly off page. Yeah, I was annoyed.

Anyway, nothing interesting really happened in this book other than the comedy. I probably won’t read this again. Good luck.

This short story was crazy!!!

The Daughter and the Dad’s back in forth was a little over the top, but funny at times. It had its sad moments. Love how her and the brother’s friend became Instantly attractive to each other and how he kept his promise to his friend about taking care of his family. Overall good read.

2.5✯

°Virgin heroine
°Experienced hero
°Multiple POVs (h, H, h's dad and random neighbor)
°Insta love/lust
°She's 18, he's 27
°The hero was alpha but not the typical JS OTT caveman
°The heroine was moody and very immature but I didn't dislike her
°The h's dad made me laugh with all the nicknames but he was too much so I can understand why some readers didn't like him
°Even though the h and her dad were very dramatic I enjoyed their banter
°Unwanted attention from a few OW but the h took care of them
°No OM drama
°No separation
°No cheating or scenes with OP
°Compared to other JS books this one wasn't very steamy and the sex scenes were very tame which was disappointing
°Epilogue: a few months later

**"What did I do to deserve this? Tell me, you took my legs and I took it the best I could, but did you have to send me one of Satan’s imps to put me in an early grave?" Pop was having one of his many daily asides with our maker.**

**She kept taking peaks at Gabriel when she thought no one was looking. I of course pretended not to be paying attention to either of them but nothing got by me. Now if I could just keep her from killing him and vice versa maybe we could have us a wedding in the near future. My Sam was young in years yes, but she was old in spirit and she needed to settle down quick, and preferably with some one that could rein her in before she ended up on America's Most Wanted.**

**Anyway either she's up there trying to outfit herself, or she's building something illegal that goes boom, for which I will be blamed because it's always the parent's fault.**

**"You're no kid of mine, no kid of mine would ever be that mean, I got jipped at the hospital, somebody took my sweet little baby girl and sent me home with Rosemary's baby." Were these two for real? This shit had to be scripted. "More like they sent innocent old me home with the Stepfather." "Who, who's that, is that the crazy man that tried to kill his family?"**

**"Where's Sam by the way?" I actually missed her mouth. "Genghis Khan is across the street hopefully being mauled by half a dozen cats, serves her right."**

**"You got your hands full with that one let me tell you, but remember this sale is final, no returns no exchanges. I do feel sorry for your poor mama though, she sounds like a beautiful woman, too bad she's about to meet Cerberus." He shook his head like that shit was funny. "I'm telling her you called her a three headed dog from hell."**

**"Cut it out." "Yeah pop, cut it out, we're about to meet Gabriel's family, have to be on our best behavior." She put her finger up to her lips in a silencing motion. "Whatever you say Mata Hari, it's too late for you not to embarrass me, sloshed out of your mind and it's not even noon yet." "Oh shush you I'm not, what's that word, oh hey where's Prince Charles?" "He's in your hands Mae West."**

**Where's that son in law of mine anyway, he knows better than to leave Attila the Hun alone with his little sister, the girl can't weigh but eighty pounds wet, if she pisses off Miss. Priss she's liable to knock her clear into next week.**

**"She said her and my Gabriel fornicated under consent of the king." Everyone had a confused look on their face except the chief. "Lord love a duck, girl would you move into the twenty first century? I blame that homeschooling, that's what it is. I should've made you go sit in a classroom with other kids, at this rate you'll catch up with the rest of the world in fifty years." "Shut it."**

**"See you in the morning Lavinia Fisher." "Pop you do know I Know who that is right? I think."**

**Well it took the boy long enough, Rosemary's baby finally came around and agreed to marry him, I don't even want to know how he pulled it off.**

I love Jordan Silver books. It's my guilty pleasure, but I gotta say this book was not for me.. I found it really damn funny. - Sam's dad is funny as hell and I think he made the story. The h was too OTT for my taste. Normally I like abit of fire in the woman's character, this was just too damn much. One minute she's smart and funny then she acts like a 5 year old. Surely she knows what happens when you have sex.. but nooooo. Anyway, I did like the H. He was sweet and patient, which I very much needed while reading this book. Missed the alpha that's normally in her books.

A WTF spoiler ahead... please shoot me... quickly.

"But Gabriel..."

"Yes baby?" She was whispering so I followed suit, I guess this wasn't for the chief’s ears.

"We didn't do all that stuff you're supposed to do to you know..."

I was lost, what the hell did she mean? She couldn't have forgotten all those times I took her to my bed or joined her in hers could she? "Flower, you do remember that we made love don't you?"

"Sssh." She looked back at her father who was rolling his eyes and muttering under his breath, I wonder if he realized he was petting the dog, his supposed archenemy.

"Of course I remember, I’m not a complete ninny but we didn't do the other stuff."

Huh, lord help me what was going on in that head of hers now?

"What other stuff baby?"

"You know, I didn't put my legs up...after, or any of that other stuff that they say you have to do when you want to have a baby."

There was a choking sound coming from the doorway, I sent him a glare to keep him quiet, this was a delicate situation after all.

"Baby, some women only do that in certain situations, didn't you study any of this stuff in your homeschooling?"

"Kinda but...and you think there's a baby in there?"

She pointed to her stomach, I nodded, and the sun came out.

No thank you. Not my scene.

LOVED LOVED this book!!!!!

Jordan is my #1 author in her genre to "check out" the books on Amazon (thank you Amazon!!!). I have really enjoyed reading her books and reading this book had me laughing throughout the ENTIRE book---it was that good!!! At first I waited because it is a different story, but I must say I loved the "conversations" Samantha constantly had with her father Chief. I must say I was so disappointed when I got to THE END of the "book" it was so good. I really enjoy Jordan Silvers books and I really really hope she has stories of the children, the oldest and her highly intelligent daughter Catalina, in her Lyon's series. Anyone who wants to enjoy several emotions in a book will definitely pick Jordan's books. I can only hope her newer books will be done in paperback. Anyone who enjoys reading will definitely like this story.

Love Gabe and his little flower, Sam

Gabe Sweeney heads to small town Lexington NY, to fulfill a promise to his best friend from the Army. It's six years later than planned, but the coma, rehab, then getting his life and business together took a little time.
Wild child Samantha, catches his eye at first meet. It doesn't take long before he is determined to make her his. He is going to claim all her firsts.
A fun , fast paced, steamy, romantic comedy. Sam and her father, the Chief, have a hilarious relationship. Gabe quickly adapts to the Holder family dynamic. He's family welcome's both, makes it clear to Virginia society that Sam and the Chief are part of the Sweeny family and no disrespect will be tolerated. A nice epilogue to wrap up their story.

another great Jordan Silver read

So if you’re someone that hates when the cover models don’t match, you’ll hate that this woman is blonde and the FMC is a redhead that openly hates blondes. That was a bit of a surprise.

The story and the lovable characters are so Jordan Silver, it is however VERY TAME. nothing crazy happens within the book at all.

The FMC having rather dated and puritanical views on a lot of things but also not believing in marriage, was strange but I really enjoyed it.

Not sure why the old lady neighbor got her own POV. I really did love this book and these characters.

Um, what?

I LOVE Jordan Silver books and have read so many at this point I can’t even keep count. But all I could think the whole time I was trying to finish this one is, “Was this AI or a
Ghost writer?” Because this book felt NOTHING like a typical Jordan Silver book. The MMC is not remotely possessive, the FMC is unhinged but not in the same way as most of her FMC’s, you barely get any interaction with any secondary characters except her dad, the not really OW but OW drama never gets resolved in story, etc. Honestly, if this was the first JS book I had ever read, I would not have bothered reading more of them.

Dnf at 50%

Was bored honestly. Nothing happened.

While the other books I read by this author weren't literary masterpieces by any stretch of the imagination, they still were a lot of fun. She has such nonsensical OTT Alphas Heroes (to the point of comedy), with fast paced batshit stories that never failed to make me laugh and were overall a fun read. Not sure what happened here.

No rating due to dnf.

It is hilariously sexy

I absolutely loved the humour. The constant banter; the sexual tension, along with wondering what calamity and threat of violence was next kept you excitedly reading. The references to the family's/infamous in history & books & movies kept it from predictable and made the antics all the funnier. The love was so tender and yet more all through the book.

Loved this book!!!!!

I have at least 20 of Ms. Silver's books and I have enjoyed all of them. This one is, by far, the funniest I've read. My son kept giving me strange looks because I was laughing so hard. A coup!e of times it made me snort! I have never snort laughed before. Loved the characters and their interesting dynamic. Great read.

Although I love Jordan silver, I couldn't finish this one. The relationship between father and daughter was exasperatingly childish and disrespectful and not really all that funny. Halfway through the book and there was more banter between father and daughter and not nearly enough romantic comedy between the H and h.

Not your average romance

Multiple POV’s most are from Gabriel and the Chief (her father) some from Samantha. It’s hilarious and sweet with a bit of spice. If you grew up in the south you probably had one or a few male relatives like the Chief. They like to spout off and rile you up. If your sensitive you may be offended by his talk, but he truly loves his daughter.

Funny

This has some substance and hilarity that I really liked it. At times the banter between the man and daughter was redundant but it was funny. The girl was so naive that it made it enjoyable to see her in polite company. Overall this is worth reading.

Hysterical!

The story reads from 3 POV’s and it is incredibly funny! The hero was awesome, the heroine spunky to the extreme—no shy violet there, and her father was an absolute hoot!

Didn't much care for this read, it's way over the top annoying and it's not just the fmc, it's her dad, and said Gabriel. I like a little banter and fun jokes between characters, but this was like reading about little kids, I could not wrap my mind around these being adults, no one was likable.

So much fun

I enjoyed 😉 Samantha, she is my type of girl, sassy, feisty, takes no BS from anyone. Gabriel is perfect for her. Possessive alpha take charge kind of men...yummy. Now the chief AKA pops made me laught like a loon. Loved it

Gabriel and Samantha

He served with her brother killed in action.

Promises to take care of Phil’s family. Takes him 6 years to get there.

They fall for each other
