While Morganville, Texas, is often a troubled town, Claire Danvers and her friends are looking forward to coming home. But the Morganville they return to isn’t the one they know; it’s become a different place—a deadly one…
Something drastic has happened in Morganville while Claire and her friends were away. The town looks cleaner and happier than they’ve ever seen it before, but when their incoming group is arrested and separated—vampires from humans—they realize that the changes definitely aren’t for the better.
It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they’ve never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation—even for the vampires themselves—the truth is far more sinister and deadly.
Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end…
I cannot believe it has come to an end. I've been reading the Morganville series for years, it was comforting to think that every year I would come back to read about Claire's crazy adventures, Myrnin's insane driving skills, Michael's dreamyness, Eve's gothic soul, and Shane's oftentimes moronic state of mind. Morganville is a dear old friend, and I am sad to have to say goodbye.
I am just glad the series ended on a good note, that it gave us closure, and that it's last book was a marvelous one. It certainly manages to turn the world and rules we have come to expect from our heroines and heroes upside down, that's for sure! Which leads to great entertainment and some serious soul searching.
"I'm bringing trouble to Morganville. They've finally got their peace, what they always wanted, and I'm coming back to rip it apart. I'm the villain."
At first glance Daylighters doesn't seem very different from previous Morganville Novels. It has it's bad guy to be defeated, vampires to be rescued, Shane being a knucklehead and Claire being a hero. An every day Morganville tale, right? Yes, but this one is quite different in that it plays in the gray zone. Peace is back in Morganville's streets. The human residents can walk freely at night and breathe without fearing the vampires will attack for no reason whatsoever, but at that cost? The Daylighters corralled the vampires into an enclave and more than likely are ready to kill every last one of them. Claire is troubled, she knows the Daylighters are not good news but at the same time the people in Morganville are finally safe, what is she to do? Let the vampires perish? Let Michael, Myrnin, Amelie, Oliver, and Jesse die? You know the answer to that, and thus begins the Morganville title in which Claire Danvers, Eve, and Shane are somehow the villains of the story, for better or for worse.
"He stared at her for a long moment, and his anger turned to something oddly like... interest. "You know, you are not the mousy little thing I met that morning in Common Grounds," he said. "You've become something else entirely. It's to your credit, but it's also extremely inconvenient."
Truer words have not come out of Oliver's mouth. I recently re-read Glass House again and I have to say Claire has grown up so much. She is a woman now, a fiercely intelligent and brave woman. She would make a kick ass vampire (fan fiction anyone?). But it isn't only Claire, I will admit Shane has also grown up a lot, and changed. For the most part he let go of his prejudices and even helps the vampires from time to time. He has also grown out of most of his anger issues, though he is still good for a brawl every so often.
"Come on, Shane. Do you really intend to sit this one out?" "You're right. There's a fight, and I'm not in it? That seems wrong."
I must admit my hatred of Shane was zero in this book. I have come to accept him, and even find him kind of hilarious at times. He has some really funny quotes in this book. Michael... Oh he is so dreamy. Though I wouldn't like to read a book from Eve's POV I would still LOVE to spend more intimate time inside Michael's head (again, Fan fiction ANYONE? Feed a starving woman!). He is the one who changed drastically on the outside, but not on the inside. He was always caring and strong and sweet, even as a ghost and then as a vampire. I feel like Eve became a little lost herself in the love she felt for Michael, which isn't bad but what does Eve actually want to do with her life? Other than being married to Michael and living happily ever after in a Vampire populated Morganville? I don't know really. Still she can handle herself in a fight and has a quick tongue, which we all appreciate.
Myrnin... Oh my love. I have loved you ever since you were first introduced. I will miss you a lot, and I hope you are happy with Lady Gray. I hope you don't accidentally kill her, and put her brain in a computer. Again. Though if that makes Rachel Caine write more Morganville books then by all means! It would also be extremely cool if Mrs. Caine were to write about the days before Morganville. How Morganville came to be, the lives of Amelie, Oliver, and Myrnin before Morganville and Claire, etc. I would totally BUY that. So many possibilities!
The ending was sweet, though not unexpected. No real surprises but it's nice to see a series that you come to love end with a happy note for a change (after Allegiant I don't think I could have survive another tear jerker). The whole book was a really nice add to the world and ended things on a good note, giving the reader, and the residents of Morganville, some type of much needed closure. I wish there were more titles but if this is how things need to end then I approve of this book, and encourage EVERYONE out there to start reading the Morganville series. It is the kind of wild ride that you will never want to leave.

HOLY CRAP, 15 books?!
Can a get a WTF combined with a HALLELUJAH!? It's kind of like, seriously? But at the same time, yess...
UPDATE 2/19/13
Oh oh, the title is out... Daylighters? This doesn't sound good, if it's referring to the vampires O.o
Update 3/24/2013
There is a coverrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT. It is very fitting, love the light, the model, the color purple, etc etc.
I was late to the party when the first Morganville book came out back in 2006. I ended up reading the first book, Glass House, four years later, in 2010, quickly fell in love with it and proceeded to read the next eight books in the series. With ever addition I became head-over-heals addicted and couldn't wait to dive back into my beloved town filled with the most witty characters, bone-chilling vampires and crazy action. So, I write this review with a heavy heart. Fifteen books later and my beloved Morganville is over. Even though I was ready to let them go, I will never forget the amazing experience I had with this escape. It was a place, I indeed, never wanted to leave.
Daylighters starts off minutes after Fall of Night ends. There is a new boss in town and he’s cleaning up all the imperfections by repairing old buildings and houses and taking out any trash he finds along the way. Which are namely, Vampires. It’s up to Claire, Shane and Eve to find a way to stop Fallon and the Daylighters foundation and get back their friends in a heart-pumping, pulse-pounding and action-packed finale that screams Morganville style!!
Since this is the last book, I don’t like to give out any spoils, so all I’m gonna say is that I love that this book delivered all kinds of awesome. Caine gave us one last explosive hurrah in this fast-paced, twisty and intriguing conclusion in the Morganville series. I love the hellhound’s idea and how it affected a couple of these characters. I though I saw it all in these books, but leave it to Caine to give us one more paranormal goodie one last time. I also love that Caine gave us a little surprise in this book. I never thought it could happen, or well, be possible and I kept thinking how brilliant of a move it was and very well played for the final book. I feel so blue. There are just so many of my favorite series ending and it feels like I have nothing to look forward to anymore. I know it’s not true and it’s just the sadness talkin’, but it’s just so odd to imagine that I won’t be picking up another Morganville book next year. Claire, Shane, Michael, Eve and Myrnin were some of my all time favorite characters ever written. I can’t even express how much I will truly miss them.
There is a something Oliver said to Claire in this book; “You know, you are not the mousy little thing I met that morning in Common Grounds,” he said. “You’ve become something else entirely. It’s to your credit, but it’s also extremely inconvenient.” Now, this quote is really saying something when you have someone like Oliver who actually recognizes how much Claire has grown in this book. She has become a very strong, independent and fierce friend and ally. Be gone is the girl who let Monica Morrell push her around and is replaced by a character that has faced endless maddening challenges, and comes out of each experience with her head a little higher and her skills-both in mind and body- a little more kickass. I’ve never been prouder. Shane has had many bumps along the road in this series, but one thing that’s never truly wavered was his loyalty to his friends and his love for Claire. He may have acted like an asshat on occasion and may still be a punk, but he’s my punk and he will always own a piece of my heart. Eve and Michael deserve all kinds of happiness and I’m glad that they got to do it right in the end. And last but not least, my beloved crazy-ass bipolar Vampire, Myrnin. I’ve always adored Myrnin’s eccentric behavior and will miss his flip-flops, vampire bunny slippers and his pet Bob-the-spider. He’s been one of the most entertaining and corky character that I’ve ever read and as crazy as it sounds, I think I’ll miss him the most.
I really don’t know what else to say, expect that these books will be forever loved and missed. I will always treasure the friendship between Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael. They have some of the best chemistry, banter and wit that never failed to put a smile on my face or dip my stomach in butterflies. I can’t even count how many times I’ve reached for these books when ever I have readers-block and I’m sure I’ll still visit these old friends the next time that happens. I hate to say good-bye to Morgaville, but I’m happy with the way it ends. With hope and happiness and Tacos;) Congrats and thanks to Rachel Caine for bringing us thrills, chills, laughter, friends and romance in the world of Vampires. They will never be forgotten.
Easily the best part of this entire series was Myrnin. What a fantastic character!!! The final book in the series was fine. It tied up all the loose ends and . Too much time spent with less fun characters. MORE MYRNIN I SAY!!!
As Rachel Caine pointed out herself, it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to Morganville, but at the same time, the goodbye has come not a second too soon. The Morganville well has been drained of its very last drop of entertainment, left with nothing but sweet memories to give.
While I was never the biggest Morganville fan out there, I’ve been following the series happily and eagerly from its very beginnings. We’ve had some good times and we’ve had some bad, but as with all things that belong to the past, in time, only the good will be remembered.
In the 15th and final installment of Morganville Vampires, the town faces a human enemy. The Daylight Foundation has arrived, imprisoned the vampires and turned most of the human residents firmly against their former rulers. But although their cause seems reasonable at first glance, protecting humans from vampires isn’t their ultimate goal, and Claire, Shane and Eve have to find a way to fight them while Michael is locked up with his kind. Claire struggles with the morality of her decision to side with vampires, especially since the citizens of Morganville seem safe and content for the very first time.
If forced to use a single word to describe Daylighters, ‘boring’ would probably be my first choice. I saw this book mostly as something I needed to suffer through in order to get a satisfactory ending for the characters I’ve grown so attached to. The plot itself didn’t offer anything new and it was surprisingly unemotional, with the exception of the ending, of course. My favorite thing about Daylighters was that Caine finally returned to a single point of view.
If you’ve read the previous book, you might remember Shane being bitten by a very strange dog. Caine neatly developed that storyline in Daylighters, but then just as neatly swept it under the rug, which gave me the impression that she only introduced it because she didn’t know what else to do to fill the pages.
As for the ending, everything that happened has been hinted at several times, so I pretty much expected it, but that didn’t make it any less sweet. I am perfectly happy with how we left the Glass house gang, and everyone important got some sort of closure. Caine left no loose threads.
This is perhaps the longest series I stuck with, and I’m not sorry. All things considered, it’s a fairly good one, always entertaining if not exactly original or particularly well written.
So I read Daylighters last night/today, and I don't even know what to say. On one hand I am HATING that the series is ending, it's one of my favorite series of all times. But on the other hand, I am extremely happy with the ending that Rachel gave our awesome Morganville residents.
This story starts off exactly where Bitter Blood left off, on an extreme cliffhanger with danger and peril staring our main characters in the face. And I would love to say that things get better from there, but they don't. As always, our poor Glass House gang has to suffer some hard knocks, and some deadly opponents. And just when you though the danger was receding, up pops Myrnin in all his crazy. I literally spent half the book chewing my nails and wondering how the heck they were going to get out of it this time.
I am happy to report that Rachel wrapped Daylighters up in a way that I think ALL the MV fans can be happy with. (And for once, she doesn't leave us hanging off the edge of Mt. Doom dangingly 20,000 feet in the air!!) I can't wait for you all to read it! I loved every second of this book, of this series, and I am so sad to see it end.
Yet another series that comes to an end. But in a way I'm glad it ended. 15 books were dragging it a bit, I guess. And the book ended on a good note, too. Though a part of me says..
But I know it would have been cruel to take it farther. I'm having trouble forming words to best describe this book or this series since the review of this book will go a long way to describe the whole series to those who haven't read the series and to those who have read and want to know the views of fellow reader. I've been reading Morganville Vampires for quite a while now so I know what it was like to wait for the books to come out and the thrill of living the adventure with Claire, Eve, Michael, Shane, Myrnin. Amelie and Oliver. It saddens me to think that there'll be no more wait, no more adventures to go upon. But like Rachel Caine wrote in the ending of the book...
Welcome to the future of Morganville. Now, you get to continue the adventure in your imagination and dreams and passion and fighting for those you love. GO! Adventure awaits.
After reading/living through these 15 books we've developed a keen imagination so yeah we'll not let the story end just here.
Anything I might say won't be enough to express the way I feel about this series, the author and the characters that I've come to love and hate. I think it'll be enough to write that I know in my heart that I won't forget this series and yeah there's always 're-reading' :) And hey we have a show coming up on the series so we'll get to see the action play on TV. Desperately waiting for the show to go on air. So that's that. See you all guys when I re-read the books.
Old Status:
Definitely one of the best covers in the series. Me likes..
So I'm guessing it's going to be the last in the series?
The fifteenth and thankfully last book in the series. I enjoyed this but it wasn't as good as I'd hoped, things were just a little bit too sweet and perfect at the end. I wanted more twists and turns and more drama from Claire and the gang - I suppose after fifteen books they deserved an HEA, but I wish it hadn't been quite such a predictable and cheesy ending.
-What's what: Morganville taken over by the mysterious Daylight Foundation, all the vampires locked up, Shane and other Morganville residents acting weird, Claire and Eve have to save the day.
-I would have preferred if the Daylight Foundation had a continued presence throughout the series. They were the 'Big Bad' in the last book of a very long series so they really should have been introduced much earlier on than the fourteenth installment, that way it would have felt more like an epic finale rather than a mostly filler book with a run of the mill bad-guy-of-the-week.
-I hated how Claire kept siding with the vampires over the humans. She spent all her time worrying about the vampires, and no time at all working with or helping her fellow humans. It put me right off her character. She didn't care about any humans apart from her close circle of friends, yet she defended every vampire she came in contact with even the ones who didn't deserve it. Ugh.
-For decades the humans in Morganville were under the control of Amelie and her vampires, they had to give blood, they were in fear of their lives, and were seen as second class citizens — so yea, it was only natural they hated vampires, and were hellbent on destroying them and getting back control of their town. The vampires had done nothing for them, so I didn't blame them for wanting to kill Amelie and co. Why didn't Claire/Eve/Michael understand that? Why didn't Claire do something about all the injustices the humans had to put up with? Why didn't she fight for them? It pisses me off that Claire fought for the vamps even though they treated humans like rubbish. So because of her Amelie and the vampires were back in control of Morganville and all its human residents — so yea, the humans will again have to bow down to the vampires. Ugh, Claire should have freed the humans instead of empowering the vampires.
-I used to love Eve's characters but not now, she got more and more insufferable and turned into a weepy-whiny-Michael-obsessed mess.
-Eve and Michael had such a cringey romance. Ever since they got together they both lost their personality and became lame.
-I wasn't impressed with the addition of werewolves. In the previous fourteen books there was no mention of them, so for them to suddenly become a thing in this was really random.
-The ending was way too sugary sweet and perfect for my liking. I hated how all the teenage main characters ended up getting married, it was silly.
All in all, it was a bit of a disappointment but it was also quite nice getting to finally finish the series.
I'm so freaking happy it is over. I will never ever re-read this series ever again. I was planning on reading the novellas..
The first book was probably the best out of the entire series. Ever since then, especially with the last couple of books, the series has gone so far down hill I don't think they could ever recover from it. I feel like this series had way too many books with conflicts that just dragged on and on. I could've been happier with like 5 books than 15. I didn't really care about what happened in Daylighters because the characters just didn't do it for me. They just continued to annoy me. I'm glad they found happiness with each other and that Claire has gotten respect from some of the vampires. But overall, I'm glad that the series has ended.
This was an okay series ending but just a little too over done.
Honestly, given the last book, that may have been inevitable.
Everything was as neatly wrapped up as it could be, I suppose.
But, it wasn't impressive and seemed to lag on and on for awhile. So much of the same happened both plot wise and in character action that it created a bland story line too much the same as previous books; it was just under the guise of a different plot device.
Day lighters seemed more cultish than anything and that didn't fit well with the previously constructed Morganville craziness- just too much of a leap that it would just have occurred to the Daylighters to make a move. I think the series would have ended better at book 13.
I will say that the characters have definitely shown a remarkable amount of growth throughout the series and I enjoyed that aspect. Eve is still my least favorite character...I still think she's whiny and weak.
As far fetched as it was, I'm glad Myrnin had Lady Grey to focus his attention on. I appreciate the respect shown toward Claire from certain vampires like Oliver and Amelie and Jesse.
I wasn't a big fan of the weddings in the end- which is a shocker because the romantic in me usually loves that stuff- because it felt too forced and out of place. Evidently, I have discovered the literary equivalent of too much HEA. Yep, it's possible. I'm glad the characters ended up together but I didn't like how.
For a series ender, it was respectable but I wouldn't re-read this book as I have with a few of the books before it. I definitely prefer the original idea of Morganville at the beginning of the series to the Morganville that was developed in the last 3-4 books.
That ending was not surprising, to tell the truth. I saw a lot of it coming. All in all, I really enjoyed this series and I'm sad it's over. I'll really miss Myrnin and his craziness the most. He was such an interesting character and while I never really shipped him and Claire, I still liked him best. Oddly enough I think I'll even miss Bob the spider, and if I wasn't terrified of spiders, I would definitely get one as a pet so I could name him Bob.
How I choose my rating: 1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much. 2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end. 3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one. 4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one. 5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.
The Daylighters, an organization committed to eliminating the threat of vampires from the world, have come to Morganville. As usual, Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve are caught up in the middle of everything. All the vampires are being held captive and subjected to experiments while the leader of the Daylighters, Fallon, goes around town convincing the humans that he is the second coming. Fallon is going to "save" everyone by curing the world of vampires, only his cure comes at a steep cost and is involuntary.
IDK, I am conflicted about this book. I thought it was a good addition to the series and all, but to be the finale?? It's a little disappointing. I thought the books with the Draug were more intense, and they didn't have all the religious and Nazism undercurrents either. Fallon, while an excellent bad guy, just didn't scare me the same way. Maybe because he was a crazy zealot and that somehow watered down the effect. I'm not sure. I just don't think it was the best finale it could have been. I still enjoyed it, but I'm leaving the series feeling unfulfilled.
SPOLER ALERT - (only read this review if you have read the books)
Okay, deep breaths. I love this series so much and I am saddened that it has come to an end. Caine's writing is always so fluent and flawless and the books have been an amazing read!
Why it deserved 4*: - the way Caine writes is magnificent, she really is an amazing story teller and she shows the characters' actions instead of simply telling us.
- Michael back to a human! Back to the man Eve fell in love with. Now they can grow old together and have kids which I think is a lovely way to end their tale.
- Oliver remained a vampire. Oliver is my second favourite character after Myrnin and he just suited being a vampire. To be by Ameilie's side and help rule Morganville for eternity just seems like a fitting end for this warrior. Also, I love how he's learnt to open up a little more.
- Myrnin not dying. I was worried that Caine may kill him off and keeping him alive is worthy of a high rating.
- The house is alive! I love how the four of them ran back to the house and saved it. It's like the house is a member of their family which I thought was sweet.
- Humour. Even though it was a tense final novel, Caine still managed to keep it light spirited and I found myself laughing a few times throughout the novel.
- It pulled at my heart-strings on quite a few occasions but mainly when I found out it was all over... for now.
- Bob and Claire. I love how in the beginning Claire squeals and can't stand being near the spider but then in the final book she pickes him up and talks to him, it's sweet.
Why it didn't get 5*: (This is more personal opinion stuff xD)
- Myrnin and Claire :( I so hoped these two would get together - I knew she'd always be with Shane and so for fans of Shane and Claire it was definitely a good ending but for me it left me feeling a little down and was rather anti-climactic. I'm not fond of Jesse and much prefer Claire being the centre of gravity for Myrnin. The two had a bond.
- Morely's death. D: Why Caine why? I would rather Jesse had died! No, really, I would. Morley was adorable even if he too was a little psycho at times.
- The overall ending... well it left a few questions in my mind and like I said I wasn't happy with a Claire and Shane wedding ending but Caine did say she'd eventually return to the series so that's always a good sign.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this series - it's my favourite and it will be extremely hard to find a novel series that come close this one. Can't wait until Caine returns to the series with some short stories. I need more Myrnin!
I didn’t want to finish this series, but I couldn’t help reading it. I loved being a part of this world and feeling like the characters were real and the places are real, and it’s bittersweet saying goodbye after so much. After the MIT fiasco, they go back to Morganville and the daylight foundation has taken over. The daylighters make my spine actually tingle, and all the characters are so memorable I don’t think I’ll ever forget the time I spent in Morganville.
The End. Yes, after 7 years and 15 books Morganville has finally reached it;s conclusion. It has been an enjoyable run with these very eclectic characters. I will will miss them. I will miss Myrinirn with his outrageous outfits, his cute pet Bob and his bunny slippers, most of all. It ends in a satisfying bang that couldn't have been more satisfying. Good bye old friends.
Daylighters is the 15th and final book in the long running witty Morganville Vampire series. All the books in this series are light, fun and quick reads. This one isn't any different. I think old fans of the series won't be disappointed because the entire gang is back for one final adventure.
The plot is thrilling, a lot goes on throughout the whole book. I never got bored. I really wanted to be excited about this book and I really want to gush about it because it is the last in this great young adult series. But honestly? I couldn't figure out why Claire and her friends didn't want a better Morganville. They complained about it being changed for the better- I'm not even talking about the vampires being kidnapped. I don't know, I had a hard time relating to them and Eve drove me nuts. She's always been my least favorite character, but she really frustrated me in Daylighters. I almost feel like her character didn't grow or evolve over the course of the 15 books. Sometimes this isn't a bad thing, but for me, I just wish Eve would have become something more.
Myrnin is brilliant, insane and absolutely hilarious and as usual, he is the highlight of Daylighters. Myrnin kept this series alive for me, anytime he isn't intricately weaved throughout the story, I'm sad. It is just perfect seeing the old chemistry between Myrnin and Claire, working together.
Daylighters is STUFFED with action and a variety of crazy and danger. It is a truly satisfying conclusion- right up until the Claire/Shane/Michael/Eve ending. They all do something together that I just couldn't swallow. It just seemed incredibly silly to me and sort of ruined the book for me. I don't think that others will have the same reaction as me. I think other fans of this series may enjoy it. I hated it- going to pretend the book ended just before *that* happened. So, I definitely would only suggest those that have already been reading Morganville Vampires to pick up Daylighters. But if you are on the look out for a fluffy new vampire series, check out the first book in the Morganville Vampire series, you'll love it.
This has been a journey for several years and now its over and I'm not sure what to do with myself. There were so many ups and downs with this series. Some books I loved and sometimes I felt like it lost the plot a bit, but I am so glad for these books. The characters have become familiar, like friends, and I'm sad to let them go but happy to see how it all worked out. I have enjoyed my time in Morganville immensely and will miss it. Great books, fantastically well done characters, overall amazing series!
I had a real rollercoaster of opinions with this book. I liked it because it explored the idea of humans taking over Morganville and becoming the ‘new vampires’. There was a creation of new dangerous creatures to fight the vampires and a new way to end vampirism? I loved the different ideas.
BUT I’m not convinced by this book. I feel like the last book in the series should have been a lot better than this. I took it slowly in hope that I could make it last and it would get better. The ideas weren’t bad, I just feel like they could have explored certain ideas more thoroughly which would’ve made it a more exciting book. The ideas seemed to jump around a lot and everything happened fairly quickly, which is another reason why it would’ve benefitted with fewer, more developed ideas.
Also, I think the book ended too quickly. All of the drama was over and then suddenly everyone was happy and the book ended. I think I would’ve preferred a more developed ending which would explain what would happen to Morganville or maybe what happened to the characters in the future? Maybe an extra chapter jumping into the future would’ve made this 4 stars instead of 3.
I loved this whole series and I will miss reading it. It is going straight on my re-read list for the future. Goodbye Morganville, goodbye Myrnin.
This took a bit for me to get into. Probably because I didn't like where it was headed. A whole new arc twist and it was the last book. Shockingly, it was wrapped up quickly, compared to previous issues. Honestly the threat ended up being almost a joke. There are a few shocking moments. I love how Myrnin is less alone it seems. Shane was quite mature compared to past books. I think what Hannah does, especially in the beginning shocks me the most. I want to read a follow-up sotry. A -1 year later thing from Clair or Shane's perspective.
Before I get into this review, I want to exclaim how amazing this series is. Despite what I’m going to say, I would totally re-read the entire series. I have been reading this series since 2007. Way before I was even a blogger. An employee recommended it to me and ever since then, I have been hooked. Every new book I had to get immediately. Not to mention that I know Morganville like the back of my hand. So to see this book end is pretty sad for me. I don’t want to end. Here we go…
Ending: I’m going to start with the ending. Every book in Morganville has been leading up to this. Their freedom and I have to say that I’m disappointed with the way that is ended. It did end how I expected it to be but I wanted more…..more umph. SOO much build up went into the last few books that I really expected more. There are some unexpected plot turns that I’m not very happy with. (Hint: Michael) That is all I’m saying.
The Glass House Gang: These characters never fail me. I will always adore walking the streets of Morganville with Michael, Eve, Claire and Shane. They deserve much happiness with all the craziness they went through and I’m happy that they ALL got their happy ending.
Vampires: I wonder if Ms. Caine has any ideas for a spin-off with the vamps. I think all this vamps lead interesting live’s that I would totally enjoy reading books based on Amelie or Oilver past . Or even their new lives in Morganville.
After reading all the books, I can say this book is great. It gives the reader one last adventure in Morganville. Daylighters is another passionate tale of survival of the fittest. Loyalties are tested and allies are made. An amazing addition, Daylighters is successful.
The series is over. Despite enjoying the first few, I should have honestly given up books ago, but I was curious how it ended.
In a weird mess followed by a so-sweet-it's-repugnant ending, unfortunately. I know that was supposed to be happy, but wow, I am not happy. I am creeped out and upset, but not surprised.
I'm glad I finished the series since I no longer have to wonder if they get better after the mess that started about book 8 and solidified in book 10. They don't. Alas to a series with a lot of promise.
When Daylighters came out in 2013, I was going through a bit of a rough patch. My Dad and dog were dying and my reading only happened in hospitals. So I didn't read a lot of the books I loved because I didn't want the hospital vibes to spill onto them. I didn't know that my hopeful time would become such a sad one, so I put it off.
By the time I finally grabbed the book, I learned that Rachel Caine was sick and she then passed. It's safe to say that I weeped and had a deep cry the night I heard the news. It tore me apart, because Rachel Caine was an author that got me through so many dark and painful times. Morganville was always there for me, and now I would never get the chance to meet her and tell her how much her and her world meant to me.
So.... I put it off. Longer and longer. I kept staring at this book and figured some day I would pick it up. And, I finally did it.
I'm glad I did.
I've missed these guys so much, and reading their finale made me feel so bittersweet. It was a great ending and had all of the fun and joy that rest of the books had. The ending was also exactly what I would hope for. Rachel Caine... She did alright with this one. And, I'm so proud. I read it at a time I needed back into that world.
This was a good ending to the series; however, this series could've been shorter. And I think some of the conflicts were a bit drawn out. Also, I honestly think this series should've ended with the draugr conflict but that's just what I think since that was probably the most crazy part of the series. Still don't really care for Shane and Claire together. I love Michael and Eve forever though. And I love how much Claire is a nerd, though she has her dumb moments sigh.
