Spy. Redcoat. Traitor.

After Captain John Carlisle’s dance with death, he’s retreated to the serenity of the Oneida village with his beloved Dellis McKesson to hide from the inevitable truth that war is coming to the Mohawk River Valley. But when duty calls, and John’s expertise is needed to negotiate a treaty with the Six Nations of the Iroquois and the Crown, he’ll once again be forced to decide between his conscience and his king.

But many secrets have yet to be revealed, and a deal with the Devil made in desperation threatens to ruin Dellis and John’s love. As ghosts of the past resurface and a bitter family rivalry exposes betrayal from those closest to her, Dellis is dragged down a devastating path to the truth of her parent’s murders.

The die is cast as St. Leger and his native allies lay siege to Fort Stanwix. The British are planning a secret attack that will force the Rebels and the Oneida into a bloody battle at Oriskany, further dividing John’s loyalties and leaving him on the precipice of a decision: Rebel or Redcoat?

The Turncoat has it all! Ahhh....how good it was to be back with John and Dellis! It's like being with old friends. Friends that bring all the drama :)

When we meet up with John and Dellis again they are preparing for their wedding and all seems to be looking up for the pair until the past catches up with them, threatening their happiness and future. John is called to help negotiate a treaty with the Six Nations and the British, and is torn between his duty to his country and his love with Dellis, and his new Oneida family. Meanwhile Dellis is dealing with issues of her own at home. Her love for John does not go over well with people in her Village and her home and business could be taken away. Add in some family drama...and I'm not talking normal family drama...I'm talking murderous brothers...and you've got one hell of a read!

What I love most about TJ London's books is how mixes the historical with the personal stories of her characters. In London's books her characters deal with some serious issues like pregnancy and the aftermath of sexual assault. It brings more authenticity to the books I think and having suffered multiple miscarriages myself I can relate to Dellis.

The Redcoats and Rebels series are perfect examples of Historical Fiction done right! London is a true lover of history and it shines through in her books, and if you ever get the pleasure to chat with her. She's one of the most enthusiastic historical writers I've ever met!

The Turncoat ends by setting the stage for the next book, which promises to be just as rockin' and I am there for it! You should definitely check out this series, it's amazing!

I had a great time with this book! I jumped at the chance to listen to this audiobook because I was extremely eager to experience the next chapter in John and Dellis’s story. At this point, I feel like I have been through a lot with these characters and I hoped that they could find the happily ever after that they deserve. This story had all of the drama and action that I had hoped to find and I found myself glued to my headphones.

John and Dellis are great characters and it is obvious just how much they care for each other. If ever there was a pair that deserved to be together, it is these two. It seems that the world often conspires against them as they faced one roadblock after another on their quest to be happy together. I enjoyed catching up with this well-developed cast of characters and loved the fact that the author was able to work a few surprises into the story.

The full-cast narration of this audiobook expertly brought this story to life. This cast of narrators did such a fantastic job with the narration so I almost felt like a movie was playing in my head. I thought that all of the narrator’s voices complemented each other very well and I found myself wanting to listen to the book for hours at a time. I do believe that the best way to experience this story is through the audiobook because the narration elevates the story to the next level.

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to others. This is a series that does need to be read in order since each book builds on the events from the previous installment. This was incredibly entertaining and I cannot wait to read more of this talented author’s work.

I received a digital review copy of this audiobook from the author/publicist.

Review:
Rich in historical detail and true to this volatile and bloody period in history- the opening notes of the Revolutionary War, the gritty and intense, Rebels and Redcoats saga has many intriguing characters, but the spotlight has mostly been on British soldier and spy, John Carlisle.

John and Dellis’ story has always been a struggle not only of their own making, but there are plenty of people surrounding them, like her evil Uncle James McKesson, shady cousin, and the grasping woman who wants John Carlisle for herself, Celeste Allen, who work to maneuver the pair. TJ London can dazzle with her complex villain characters as much or more so with her heroes and heroines.

John has managed to keep his status as spy from Dellis until now and I was on baited breath for when she and the others knew all. I’ve enjoyed seeing John’s personal strength and character grow throughout the series so that he’s dealing with his previous choices and mistakes against a greater situation. This was the finale of John and Dellis’ part of the story as the main pair so things crescendo to a series of big moments saturated with brutal and tragic loss, but also hot and tempestuous romance.
And, when I say brutal, I will warn future readers/listeners that there are dark notes when London pulls no punches and paints a stark, brutal reality all through this series some related to war and others to people are just evil toward one another.

As to the full cast, the former narrator for John’s voice was replaced, but I’ve already enjoyed Kale Williams’ work so I had no doubts with him coming on board. He is joined by the rest of the familiar and fabulous cast-Tara Langella, Patrick Zeller, Marnye Young, John Hartley, James Cheatham, Nicholas Boulton, Shayna Small, Samantha Brentmoor, Adam Gold, Connor Crais, and Dane Anderson- who make a sensational story more sensual and riveting so that I wouldn’t miss the audio version for worlds.

The Turncoat had me in its grip and left me emotionally wrung out. I can’t praise these enough so if you love deep, tumultuous historical saga fiction, snap up the Rebels and Redcoats saga in audio.

I rec'd an audio version via Caffeinated PR and author to listen to in exchange for an honest review.

My full review will post at The Quill Ink Nov 15th.

When I featured the cover reveal for this earlier this year, I thought; “Oooh, this sounds so good, I definitely need to read this one.” and it didn’t disappoint, it has everything I look for in a historical fiction book; huge amounts of brilliantly researched history, great, edge of your seat, page-turning story and a lovely romance. But for me, I felt like I was standing on the outside looking through a tinted window trying to grasp what was going on, which let me first point out has nothing at all to do with the authors writing, or the story, but everything to do with me not reading the previous books.

Full disclosure I hadn’t read this authors work before this, I was fascinated though, personally speaking I did have this feeling that I had missed out on something profound that I think comes from reading the series in order. I did get a sense that you need to read the books in order to fully grasp the love story between John and Dellis, but apart from my personal misgivings about it – which really are my own doing for not reading the first books – this is great read, it has got a great energy fluidity to it that keeps you reading, for me it is the realism in the dialogue and the descriptions that really grab your attention, yes there are parts when I went; “Ooh, did I really read that?” but this is an historical and that means there must be the more ….eye opening and uncomfortable moments.

The story opens with the lead characters John and his intended preparing for their wedding, now I did get the feeling this is a on going storyline through the books, I’m not sure if that is true or not, but that’s how I read it. John is trying to stay out of the fighting, all he wants is to stay with Dellis and be at peace, but we all know that isn’t going to happen, don’t we? And true to form, he gets the worst possible news he can get; he must once again pick up arms and do his duty. He has been tasked with negotiating a treaty between the six nations and the British, you can imagine how John is feeling right at this moment. Being a British Spy and now being apart of the Oneida family, he is torn between his love and his country.

As you might expect this is an explosive read, there is a drama galore, passion, danger, spies and a really twisty, intriguing tale of love, honour and duty. The writing is flawless, it entwines a passionate, bloody history with a complex story about a man who only wants to the right thing.

For those who love their deeper detailed historical fiction then this is the book for them.

The Turncoat is the 3rd book in The Rebels and Redcoats Saga, but technically the 4th book as there is a full length prequel. It is really important that you read or listen to these books in order. The Turncoat has adventure, danger, passion (steam), family issues, war/battles, revenge, greed, power and more. The story is set in 1777 when there is war between the tribes brought on by siding with either the rebels or the redcoats during the American Revolution. John and Dellis have not had and easy road to romance, but they have gotten married in Dellis' Oneida Village. He also wants to get married in the church and plans are being made, but, there are people who want John either dead, in prison, on a ship back to Scotland or married to someone else and things get out of hand. You need to read or listen to this one to find out what happens to John, Dellis and their friends.

The Redcoat is historical fiction and T.J. London does a great job mixing the two. A lot of what happened in history to women and the native people is hard to read, but it is realistic. Women were possessions or they were something to be used, Native people were expendable savages and there are some difficult scenes to read. I haven't read a lot about the American Revolution especially where the native people were involved and I have learned a lot. Although Independence was declared in 1776, there were still a lot of things happening that come to closure in this book. I enjoyed the fictional part with several characters and their relationships adding to this story. I can't say enough about the narration of this book and series. They have a full cast of characters and they do an amazing job. I'm not going to list them all here, but suffice it to say, if you enjoy historical fiction, especially American History before, during and after the American Revolution, then I recommend you listen to this series, you won't be disappointed.

The Turncoat, book three from TJ London's series, The Rebels and Redcoats Saga. This is my first introduction to this series. I have got to get my hands on the first two installments to see what transpired previously. This one was so very good! I did not want to put Dellis and John's story down. I never knew what happened in the following scenes.
I give The Turncoat five plus stars and highly recommend it for those who love Revolutionary War era novels.
Great read!
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Review copy was received from Publicity team. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I am always excited to get a new audio from this author.  It's weird because I don't read much historical fiction other than fantasy. So far I have avoided looking up what really happened with this series but after this one I couldn't resist.  I think The Turncoat takes place during the summer of 1777.  The actual battle at Fort Stanwix happened the first days of August 1777.   The Revolutionary War is one of my favorite time periods to read and most of the characters are not real people other than the leaders of the armies.  However, I do wonder about who the native Americans supported and what happened to them.  Obviously, the Americans won eventually and did not treat natives well.

The previous books have focused on John Carlisle, a captain in the British army.  He is estranged from his family.  He is not perfect but works and tries so hard to do the right things.  It is heartbreaking to see how others use him and how often he is injured.   His wife, Dellis is in the Oneida tribe, and he joins when he marries her.  She runs hot and cold on John which is another stress for him.  Her tribe decides to fight with the Americans (against the British) as her cousin, Alexei has been doing.

Alexei's father, James McKesson has long been stealing from Dellis and really anyone he can cheat.  He wants to see his brother, Dane dead.  He's not a fan of his son, Alexei either.  I hate James with a passion and I've not been overly fond of Alexei.  Another horrid character is Mrs. Allen who wants John in her bed and as an investor in her brothel again.  John has no interest.  She courts many different British gentlemen and officers, including McKesson.  She manipulates everyone for information to find investors and information she can sell or trade.

There were many horrific fights and battles which it is shocking people survived with the medicine in that time period.  I was so afraid my loved characters would not survive.  And there are those who don't survive.

An emotional story with lots of action, military strategy, and some very hot and steamy interludes,  The Turncoat is an excellent addition to the  Rebels & Redcoats Saga . At the end of this audio, was a brief clip from the next audio, The Rebel being released in 2024.  It features Alexei's story and begins in April 1777 about four months before the end of this book.

 Narration:
I really enjoyed all the narration of a full cast.   I do know that one of my favorite narrators, Steve West, was replaced here by Kale Williams. I was a little apprehensive because I don't always do well when that happen.  Kale Williams did an excellent job and I really appreciated his performance.  The narrator for Mrs. Allen, Maryne Young, is also perfect and I hate her with all my passion.  I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

The first half of this book was just too repetitive and really felt just so much more of the same from the book prior. I set it aside and struggled to pick it back up. The latter half improved. Overall, this book was only OK - neither books 2 nor 3 were nearly as good as the first; however, I still like this world London created. Sure, most of the characters are black and white caricatures... and yes, the whole thing is so reminiscent & parallel to OUTLANDER... but still, I enjoy this place and am married to reading more. So, book - 3 stars. Series, probably a 4.

REVIEW

As with the first two books in the series, The Turncoat grabs you by the uniform lapels, pulls you in, and like a Dellis & John embrace, you never want to let go. An intense tale with an abundance of intriguing plot strands, woven together in an intricate pattern culminating in an attention grabbing tapestry. I cannot begin to tell you, my peeps and fellow travelers, how impressive a tale this is. The drama is unrelenting...the characters are an amazing collection of warts and foibles...the history is presented in a way that subtly educates as it entertains. The entire series kindled an array of feelings...some loathing of the exquisite nastiness displayed...and an abundance of respect and admiration for Dellis and John, despite their warts and foibles.

This is a continuing series and must be read in publication order.
This one sure had quite a few turns in this latest installment in the The Rebels and Redcoats Saga. John and Dellis are married through her village (although John would like an official church one so she has rights due to her if anything happens to him). Poor Dellis on having to suffer another heartbreaking event. I hope her and John will get their miracle. Celeste, she just keeps on trying to tear them apart.

TJ has eloquently weaved multiple storylines that I wouldn't do them justice. Just know she did an excellent job with her research to stay true to the period but also they are ones readers would enjoy.

Last 35? %ish scenes get pretty battle heavy and even with few unexpected deaths. Then set up for the next book for Will and Alexei, because whoa Alexei just may be a softy under his exterior. It will sure be torture to wait until next summer to listen to Wilhemina and Alexei's story!!!! I highly recommend this entire series on audiobook. The cover is great too.

The cast of narrators in this major duet narration: Kale Williams-John Carlisle, Tara Langella-Dellis McKesson, Patrick Zeller-James McKesson, Roger DeLancie, Marnye Young-Celeste Allen, John Hartley-Major Tomlinson, Gavin Carlisle Jr, James Cheatham- Joseph and various voices, Nicholas Boulton-Dane McKesson, Shayna Small-Agnes, Samantha Brentmoor-Lady Wilhelmina Tomlinson, Adam Gold-Alexei McKesson, Connor Crais-Eagle Eyees, Dane Anderson- Patrick Armstrong.

I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Aaaah, how I wish I had read the first two books in this series. Not because this book didn’t stand alone but rather because The Turncoat was so good. John Carlisle is a British officer in love with Dellis McKesson, are in love and planning their wedding. This is to be celebrated as there is much against them; from Delllis’s mixed heritage to John’s conflicted feelings on the coming war to Dellis’s bitter brother.

The wedding is only one of many plots that are all expertly woven together in a tale that takes the reader back to the time before the colonists became independent. The locus around which all the stories circle is the relationship between the tribes of the Oneida and whether they will stand with the British or fight with the rebels. The fight is just starting and sides have to be chosen. Of course we now know how it all played out but when it was happening no one knew which side was going to win.

The Turncoat takes the reader on a rich and complex journey with a cast of characters that are not easily forgotten. John and Dellis are trying to forge a relationship when forces are trying very hard to pull them apart. Those forces include both his brother and her brother. But they also have a strong support system – if only they could learn to trust each other.

As John works with his fellow British soldiers to try and get the Native Americans on their side he also must decide if he is on the side of the British or the Oneida as he has strong feelings for the people from which Dellis comes. He saved them once and so feels a responsibility. But a time might come where he will have to make a choice – which side will he be on?

The Turncoat is a book that keeps you turning the pages, always wanting to know what will come next. Even when things might seem settled, they are not. I very much want to pick up the first two books in the series because I believe they will enrich my understanding of this piece of the saga. It’s definitely great by itself but I think it would be awesome with all of the backstory.

The attention to detail in the historical details truly pulls the reader into the story. Ms. London’s extensive research shows in all the right ways. It’s the kind of book where you really feel like you are in the story with the characters because the writing invites you into the tale. I love those kind of books.

This story is carries on with the Rebels and Redcoats saga. I've read both the original and revised versions and I'm amazed every step of the way. We continue with the story revolving around John and Dellis, although so many of the characters are richly developed for a full immersion experience into this story. Once again John and Dellis and torn apart and brought back together through the circumstances of war, lies, and betrayal. There is so much in this book, but I don't want to spoil it all here, I will say that not everything is as it seems. Always pay attention to the secondary characters, they aren't there for show, they all have a purpose.
The last 1/3 of this book had my emotions on high alert, I was so invested in all of the characters and their relationships that their heartaches became my heartaches. I cannot recommend this entire series enough.
Now that I’ve listened to the audio… I wish I could rate it higher. Hearing this acted out by 12 different narrators was outstanding, best audio of 2023. Each character was so perfectly matched with the narrator that each scene just flowed into the next and you were swept away on this journey with them all. The emotions I felt while reading the book were so elevated by the electric, often subtle, but always spot on performances, that it became an entirely new experience from reading the book on the page.
I cannot recommend this book and this series enough. Whether you prefer on the page or in your ears, I would encourage you do do both!

It is within these pages I found justice...

A Captain.
A Spy.
A Prisoner.
And now a Oneida

The Turncoat, is book three in the Rebels and Redcoats Saga. An engaging novel of the American Revolution seen through the eyes of John Carlisle And Dellis McKesson caught up in an extraordinary time.
In her breathtaking excitement, and narrative force, Tj London grabs you and pulls you into this stirring story of a part of our nation’s critical history.
The action is brisk and incredibly addictive, with complex characters, atmospheric historical recreation of the Mohawk River Valley in the Summer of 1777.
Tj. London is a literary mastermind when it comes to weaving creative characters in to a riled time in American History. Her inclusion of historical figures is well done and their fictional counterparts are so well represented, their descriptive voice gives you the the sense they actually lived.
Historical accounts, with the unraveling of the Iroquois Confederacy and the multifaceted aspects of the Revolutionary War, the author uses true emotional elements to create a moving and enjoyable read.

This book!!!

This was an fantastic installment in the series!

I have to be careful with how I word this review because the spoilers could ruin the art!

There are so many shocking conclusions and twists that my mind was in a constantly state of whiplash. Just when you think these characters can’t endure anymore, more comes.

Characters: if you’ve been following the books, these are so many character arcs in this book! You see the growth and it’s incredible.

Dellis and Jon’s relationship takes on new obstacles all the while sizzling us in our seats with chemistry and heat.

The secondary characters and side characters are rich in depth and each one has an individual face.

The villains are everywhere and they are lethal! There’s this constant sense of danger and it keeps you on your toes.

Plot: The plot is layers deep as is the way in a TJ London book! The politics are at a boil, loyalties are tested, and I can’t say anymore but OMG

THIS BOOK was a five-star from the stunning and symbolic cover to the heart-twisting authors note in the back. These books were born from hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. And it all pays off !

Y'all. Oh my goodness. HOW can I even begin this review? I am now on my second reading of this novel, and have read the first two books in the series twice as well. I just cannot get enough of these characters! Dellis and John are as real to me as my own family (#booknerdconfessions), are fleshed out beautifully and are so wonderfully addicting. (I have a wicked crush on John. Sorry, Husband.) (Not sorry, Dellis.)

In all of my years reviewing books, I have rarely come across a series of this brilliance penned by an author with such talent. Come rock the revolution and pick up this novel. (Pick up the series!) (Also grab some tissues or 5. And a pint of ice cream.) I promise, you won't be disappointed. The best there is in historical fiction, hands-down.

The Turncoat
Rebels and Red Coats #3
TJ London

TJ London’s, The Turncoat, #3 in her Rebels and Red Coats saga is AMAZING, a non-stop action packed, nail biter from page one until The End. She doesn’t shy away from the real cost of war, nor does she sugar coat the hardships the colonists and especially the women had to face day after day. Her narrative is gritty, in-your-face and no holds barred, letting the audience experience the realistic feeling of life on the frontier with danger at every turn and her storytelling is absolutely, unforgettably, enthralling giving her audience no choice but to hang on every word. The love story between John and Dellis is as usual fraught with all types of obstacles most of their own making but a few unavoidably due to fate. And her characters are all so genuine, and yes the good guys are flawed but still honorable and the villains run the gamut from diabolical to manipulative to pure evil. But it’s definitely John and Dellis who rule the pages and TJ keeps us on our toes with all the pitfalls and perils she puts them through. If you enjoy realistic historical fiction, Revolutionary fiction, stories that feature strong women and truly realistic characters then The Turncoat will keep you up until the wee hours to finish just like it did me. This novel picks up just after The Traitor leaves off so the novels will need to be read in order.

Narration:
The narrators are brilliant, each one is perfect for his or her role and they all put just the right emotion or lack thereof in just the right place. There are both American and English accents that give the novel a more genuine feel and the best way to experience the book.

Captain John Carlisle has flirted with disaster many times since coming to the colonies to spy for the crown hoping to rebuild his ruined reputation. Nevertheless, he’s fallen in love with and married a local woman with ties to the rebels and become a member of her Oneida tribe. War is inevitable and he’s finding it harder and harder to stay true to his King and his newfound family and more often than not is feeling like a traitor to both sides. But when he’s called by his superiors to help broker a deal with the native tribes to help the crown he dons his uniform and heads into danger. If he can keep the lies he’s not yet revealed to Dellis from biting him in his backside, keep his enemies at bay and his powerful friends close at hand and protect those he loves it’ll be a real miracle.

Dellis McKesson has survived much in her life and just when she finally think she knows the man she loves yet another of his secrets are exposed and this one may just be to high to pay. There’s also the small problem that she is on the side of the rebels and her lover is a Red Coat and with war on the brink there may be no winners.

The war is beginning, brother against brother, not just in the native world, but also the McKesson brothers, and Carlisle brothers. Dane wishing to prove that James is responsible for Stephens death, and Gavin hates John for deflowering the woman he loved and waiting till they were married to drop that bomb on him.
Ruslan and Alexei have finally broke from their father, seeing they were being used, they only wanted to help the rebel cause.
Dellis is forever running after John, but upon finding him she continually rejects him.
Celeste is still causing as much trouble as she can for John and Dellis, and has no idea how she is digging a whole she can't escape from.
John is torn between loyalty and love, knowing one day he will have to choose a side.
Dellis has new help at the Inn , Agnes who once was employed by Celeste, a freed slave who is threatened by Celeste. and Will a young boy that Alexei asked her to help out.

Sometimes people are too blind to see what's right before their eyes. Many families are torn apart, and many lives are lost to war. This is the cost of war. This is a heart wrenching tale that will touch your emotions, but there is much humor also. Loyalties are divided at every turn. In a world full of spies, who can be trusted? Friends will become enemies, and enemies will become friends. A very realistic look at how the white man destroyed the native way of life.

All opinions are solely my own and have no ill intent towards the author, publisher, or promoters of the book. I will be continuing on to book 4 in The Rebels and Redcoats saga - Man Of War- once you start this series I dare you to stop, it can't be done, it's that good.

AUDIBLE REVIEW:

OVERALL: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
PERFORMANCE: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
STORY: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jenny & Ed's thoughts.

OMG, this was a wild ride with many twists and turns!!

The characters were once again amazing and we enjoyed meeting new and shocking characters too!! These characters made such an impact on us and we felt the connection no matter what the characters went through. We still love Captain Carlisle and Dellis though!!

The storyline was incredible!! The story was gripping and kept us listening to it from beginning to end. And the twists and turns caused our mouths to hang open but yet we needed to know what would happen next!! We felt like we were a part of the story too and that we were watching a movie within our minds as we listened!!

The narrators were.....OMG, we have no words!! They were the most phenomenal and there were 12 different narrators that kept us completely drawn into the story!!! We heard the different voices and we could picture what that character may have looked like in our minds just by listening to these voices!! We highly recommend this audiobook!!

This is the third book in The Rebels and Redcoats Saga, an outstanding Historical Romance. John and Dellis’s adventures continue where the second book left off. They are both amazing characters. There is a lot going on in this installment. The storyline is enthralling, and entertaining, filled with danger, lies, secrets, and intrigue. I liked the suspense, the action, and the twists and turns. The supporting characters are intriguing. The full cast of narrators did an outstanding job with the narration (Kale Williams, Tara Langella, Patrick Zeller, Marnye Young, Adam Gold, Nicholas Boulton, John Hartley, Samantha Brentmoor, Connor Crais, Dane Anderson, James Cheatham, and Shayna Small). The audio quality is perfect. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to The Rebel, the next book in the series. I HIGHLY recommend this series! #CaffeinatedPR

Best book and audio of 2023

Tj London knows how to write an epic saga.

The turncoat is the continuation of Dellis and John story. I fell in love with this characters since the beginning. What I love about this book is how Tj incorporated real history to her story and how the characters evolve and grow in each book and thia one is not different. You can feel the turmoil John is going through...choosing the love of his life or his king. I read the book a while ago but it didn't hit as deeply in the feels to me anyway until I listened to the audio. I laughed, giggled, blushed, cried and got mad oh boy I got mad...all that because of the amazing performance of all 12 actors. Soo looking forward for more in the next book of this incredible saga.

As we move into the third book in this wonderfully engaging series, betrayal, murder, family rivalry, and war encompasses our hero and heroine, Captain John Carlisle and his beautiful and beloved Dellis McKesson.
This story moves at a fast pace through the chapters and you are never quite sure what is going to happen next.
TJ London's writing is magically engaging with her accurate historical descriptions, emotional words and passionate love, but one should be aware of the graphic descriptions of war.
Will John and Dellis survive, and what about their friends and family..... Only time will tell.
I could not put this fabulous book down.

The Turncoat
The Rebels and Redcoats Saga #3
by TJ London
Narrated by Tara Langella, Kale Williams, Patrick Zeller, Marny Young, Adam Gold, Connor Crais, Dane Anderson, James Cheatham, John Hartley, Samantha Brentmoor, Shayna Small and Nicholas Boulton

This series is one I look forward to listening to! TJ London masterfully pulls together history and fiction, creating a story with fabulous characters that I love and love to hate, with love, family, deception, betrayal, you name it and she has it in this incredible saga. We continue to hear of Dellis and John. So many twists and turns with unexpected characters popping in with lies and greed! So much detail, with incredible imagery and engaging conversations, it's not a story that you want to be interrupted while reading! Definitely read the saga in order, as while this could be a standalone, it does build from book to book and it's absolutely one of the best series I have listened to.

With a full cast duet narration, this is like a vivid movie in my mind. Tara Langella, Kale Williams, Patrick Zeller and Marnye Young return with their characters, with spot on acting adding the familiarity I love. They are this series, and each brings a richness to the story. Plus the many secondary characters with performances by Adam Gold, Connor Crais, Dane Anderson, James Cheatham, John Hartley, Samantha Brentmoor, Shayna Small and Nicholas Boulton, it's an experience! I love identifying some of my favorites when I hear them, and each person was perfectly cast. This is one that should not be missed!

This was my first book by TJ London and it will not be my last! Historical fiction is hard to write and boy did she knock it out of the park! The characters were so well written and I felt like I was living the story. Very gripping!

I received an audio copy of the book and did not want to stop listening. The narrators cast all did an amazing job and really brought the story to life!

Cannot wait to read The Rebel.

I received an ALC in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

I was pleased to get to know the author on social via a mutual friend. We exchanged a number of messages discussing our love of the 18th century and our respective writing methods. I ended up reading this novel of hers on a plane trip home to "the colonies" from a sojourn in England, so it was certainly thematically in sync. Carlisle is a complicated character who goes through quite a few changes in this volume as he deals with the realities of war and consequences of his own actions, along with his paramour Dellis as she struggles to find her place in his life and her community which is being torn apart by the conflict. The research the author put into the Oneida culture and customs to depict Dellis' mixed background was interesting. The story involves themes which the author clearly has reflected upon through her own experiences, and which she casts a unique light upon via the historical context. I wish her all the best as she continues to weave the tapestry of her tales.
