Luke Shephard was born and raised in Oregon, where he can still be found dreaming up stories or getting lost in local parks and reservoirs. In addition to writing, the author has also spent time as a teacher in such places as Spain, Germany, and South Korea.
He now lives with his wife, a son, and a Great Dane that loves peanut butter.
This book needs editing. Simple read through should get the errors but it very much needs it. Sentences are not complete, slntax is off, just makes it difficult to read. That said, the story is a good one. I am reading the third and I think last one, The Beginning and the End. So for me to be continuing to read it is good enough to get through the errors in writing.
I keep thinking I am going to find out why Owen is such a hard person but it seems in this book which tells his earlier years, he is was always hard and a bit insensitive, although he does love hannah and tries to consider her int he midst of bossing her around. It tells how smart Hannah is which is why he loved her but she does nothing to prove this. She follows Owen around like a puppy. I realize she has kids later on and feels she has no choice and she really doesn't have a choice but to stay with Owen but he loves and needs her too and she could be more outpoken. I really don't like this type of woman or the type of man Owen is.
However they have kids, the others they meet and form a community with have kids, they find teenagers, there is a new generation coming up and they are very different. I would love to hear more about them than what was given in the first book but we hear about Owen and Hannah, which is important because they are the key to how this infection was unleashed.
2 1/2 stars, because this was slightly better than the last one, to which I gave only 2 stars. In this 3rd part of "Colony Z", we are taken back to the first days of the outbreak, referred to by Owen and Hannah as Zero Hour. The book relates the daily lives of the main characters who appear in the first two books - who they were and what they were doing when they first encountered the zoms. We get a young abused and kidnapped Aaron, the loving couple Phillip and Willa, and Robert and Carlos and Nathan. Owen and Hanah, teenagers here, are travelling to find a safe haven, encounter each new member of their group, and start the beginnings of their tribe. Lots of names, lots of action, but ultimately, I've been a little soured by Owen. One more book to go - moving on.
