Swordmaster Dasan

Swordmaster Kyo Dasan is known for both his abilities and bitterness regarding visitors throughout the territory, seemingly comfortable only when alone.

S. K. Hart is the worst person in the world. When she isn’t fighting the forces of good and thwarting plans to improve humanity, she enjoys watching horror movies and building tiny obnoxious things with tiny obnoxious parts. Her New England compound is guarded by a slobbery jump-monster disguised as a dog and a suspicious quantity of wooden giraffes.

As Overlord to two young, almost equally wicked minions, she has mastered the art of ‘sick burns’ and ‘finger guns.’ Her maniacal laughter can often be heard following allegations of mental torment inflicted upon small humans in the form of ‘homework’ and ‘chores.’ For seventeen years, her ongoing and unrepentant enjoyment of her spouse has sickened even the most wholesome of prudes.

Overlord Hart spends her days fantasizing about controversial things and the most entertaining ways to present them to others. She greatly enjoys sharing her written creations and has been known to take requests and challenges, sometimes against her will. If an idea is difficult enough, she attempts it.

Anyone looking to contact S. Kaeli Hart can find her on her blog, Facebook, or Goodreads, where she posts all updates on all current and future projects.

This is a short story with an omniscient narrator. The two main characters are swordmaster Kio Dasan, who is a Daiban elf (a sort of elf with big wings) approaching his thirties, and his new 19-year-old apprentice, Localem Arada (Loki), who is a Sahrketh (whatever that means). I supposed that “Sahrketh” means an ordinary human being.

We learn that Kio’s wife Rishu is the Headmistress at the Sahrketh Palace and she tried to kill her husband Kio by stabbing him in his spine. This is the reason why they broke up and why he has limited feelings in the lower half of his body. And Loki’s life with his mother and his mother’s lover wasn’t a paradise either.

“My mother’s lover wanted me a few years ago. I refused her, because honestly, how disgusting?” [...] “I don’t know if she even noticed she had hit me like she had, not until she was finished.”

And to escape an entire life under the command of a wife chosen by his mother and her lover, Loki decided to go and try to get the swordmaster to train him. Since he has no money to give to the swordmaster, he accepts to have sex with him, the way Kio likes; that means in bondage and often roughly.

All the above events happen in the first third of the story. For the rest of the story, the swordmaster only has a requirement in connection with Loki’s training that is described by the author. Frankly, I’d have liked much more of their teacher/student relationship. I imagined something like when Daniel Larusso had to wash a car and paint a fence in Karate Kid I. But nothing of the sort happened.

Two-thirds of the story is devoted to sex, sometimes a little rough, and more often than not, with Loki in bondage. Loki seems relatively naive since everything Kio wants to do with him or asks Loki to do is new to his apprentice.

“For tonight, I was thinking you could be on top.” Loki paled, then swallowed the knot in his throat. “Why?” “[...] and this would be the first time he was asked to move for the two of them. The thought that he wouldn’t be able to perform well was unnerving.”

When Kio asks Loki to masturbate while he watches, Loki flushes because “He was on display for Kyo now, and they both knew it.”

All what Loki lives at the hands of Kio seems to be a hardship to him, so it gives a D/s color to it all.

Then, at the last page, Kio learns that “She [his wife] pulled a dagger, and one of the new recruits to the Akana got it from her. Then buried it in her spine.” We supposed that it’s Loki who did to her what she did to Kio.

The writing is not bad. I am not sure that the punctuation and the paragraphing comply with the rules. My native language is French and I am not accustomed to English rules for those sorts of things, but they didn’t seem right to me. And there were a few mistakes.

I give this story 3 stars and a half.

This short story wasn't intended for publication when I originally wrote it. It was the back-story for Localem 'Loki' Arada, who plays a large part in the Playing with Tigers series. A friend read this and loved it, so I offered it as a free side story because I thought that perhaps others might enjoy it.

A sequel was requested, and subsequently written for these two characters. Both books take place before Playing with Tigers. The third (and most likely final) Swordmaster Dasan does not have a set date for publication yet, but I update its status on my blog, and I will be sure to let readers know when that will be available through there.

For anyone interested, the second installment of Swordmaster Dasan is available as a free download in all formats here, just make sure that your adult filter is set to off because it most certainly contains explicit content.

As always, thank you for all feedback and for reading!

Enjoyed this short story, but I definitely think that with a more developed story and less abrupt transitions it could be stronger and more engaging. Liked the concept and boy, Loki and Dasan are tasty kinksters.

I liked this one. I thought the set-up/world were interesting, even without having read the author's other stories in the same world, and I liked the characters. I thought they played off each other well. I liked the back-stories. I thought they 'waltzed' emotionally very well, which is interplay I like. The sex scenes were quite hot.

It lacked that... something that totally blows me out of the water, but I really liked it. So, this is a 4 star story!

While as as a BDSM this short fantasy story is surely better than average, it still lacks the psychological transitions needed to explain how and why Loki comes to enjoy Kyo kinks.
The second half is comparatively better thanks to Loki's developing a spine which leads to good banters.
The ending is too hurried and I personally would have preferred for Loki to do the deed alone.

I was about to say "wadda fuck did I just read?"
But then I realized this is supposed to be erotica.

Well...that explains a lot.
Still, it was kind of deep in a non-conventional, unsettling sort of way...

I think I kind of liked it.

Coming across this short story – which by the way is free on Amazon – I had a feeling that I’d come across something good. Thankfully, I was not disappointed.

This short is a Yaoi/Paranormal in genre and that means one thing to those who are familiar with it. Seme-Uke/Forced Seduction. So the general characteristics are the old-time dubious consent kind. In this story, Kyo Dasan is a famous Swordmaster (elf) and he’s known to taking no students. Actually, he’s well known for his intolerance of people. Yet he strikes a deal with Loki, who in order to escape his fate to be forever the lowly partner of a female of his species goes after Swordsmanship. But Loki has nothing to offer for the privilege of being Dasan’s apprentice… except his body.

As I said, a typical Yaoi forced relationship where the Uke originally hates the attention of the Seme and is deeply mortified when his body reacts pleasantly, and then later on Seme’s forceful love is not only accepted, but also wanted and even explained/reasoned. To be honest I liked the entire read except the ending itself as it was rushed and hastily thrown in there. It left me cold and literally didn’t see the point of such hastiness as it ruined it all for me. In addition, the story was definitely in need of more editing and polishing, but bottom end I quite liked it, so much so that I wouldn’t mind more of Kyo and Loki. The entire world where this story is set is actually very fascinating and enticing me to go after the main series (Playing with Tigers) in order to get more of it.

Recommend to those who like Yaoi and BDSM mixed into a paranormal world.

I find that I really like Hart's writing and characters. Granted there is little to this story except A LOT of sex, but hey that's what I picked it up for so it's not really anything to complain about. The world building felt a little week, but especially so since there appeared to be some quite detailed races/peoples/societies involved. This book is apparently set in the same universe as Hart's Playing with Tigers series, which I haven't read yet. I get the feeling that a lot of the lacking social details are set out in those Tigers books, because the author has obviously taken the time to develop them even if not seen here. Either way I still found the story easily followable and I adored Loki and Kyo.

I had to drop a star because some of the earlier sex scenes felt almost like rapes even if Loki had consented. I had a hard time relaxing into that. That's just me though. Hart even warns in the introduction that the Swordmaster Dasan books arn't "meant to display safe or proper bondage practices," so I can't claim to have been unprepared. It's fiction afterall. I can appreciate that. But like everyone, I have my own personal limits.

A fun, well-written read.

(As an aside I actually couldn't help by imagine Kyo as the Onime-no-Kyo from Samurai Deeper Kyo. They really look nothing alike, but between the name and the constant cruelties my mind made the leap and wouldn't let it go.)

S. Hart writes in one of her blog-entries "...anyone who can stomach the first one would probably enjoy the second".
Well I read her entry after reading both SMD (in search of news on SMD3) and obviously I can stomach a lot 'cause I enjoyed both short stories. The first starts off bit strange, as haven’t read the „Playing with Tigers“ I first had to get into the “scene”, realize it’s a “fantasy”, grasp what the plot should be about. Liked the idea a lot, better developed in the second installment, liked the characters even more; their inter-play is somehow unique. The “unfeeling”/detached sex/bondage-scenes often really relate to the ways of “modern” sex-making – unemotional, rough. Though it’s getting better in the SMD2, where something akin affection can be sensed throughout the story, explained (imo) by the understanding of actually both characters, that there hardly is someone else to match their needs/desires.
Can’t wait for part 3 - or rather the split in part3 + 4 – to journey along Loki and Kyo towards a hopefully HEA – even if it’s a rough ocean their swimming in…

I liked this book, although it could have been a bit longer in order to give more background on Ryo and Loki. I don't often read bdsm books, but this one was good in that aspect. I just think that there could have been more time spent on the development of the relationship between Ryo and Loki - both likable characters. I will probably read the other book in the series. The writing was okay, but a bit uneven and characters were introduced but only as a means of giving a bit of backstory and then they were no longer in the story.

This was so-so at best. Honestly it started off as pure bdsm sex. The story was a joke. A bit gets added later on, but at that point I felt it a little too late. It is also very jumpy and sporadic which I didn't like. This has a different take on elves though. Not one I persay like but I don't hate it either. Just different. The characters themselves are mediocre. I didn't feel they were very fleshed out. I know this was a short novella, but still...I was hoping for more.

I did not like this book. I tried to get through it but no. I like BDSM and don't mind it but certain things just push my buttons and quite a few were in this book. If you like more harcore stuff then I guess this is for you but it's not for me.
