A TEN BEACH ROAD NOVELLA

Wendy Wax entranced audiences with Ten Beach Road and Ocean Beach. Now, the ladies of Bella Flora are back in an all-new holiday novella.

When Madeline Singer, Avery Lawford, and Nicole Grant first gained ownership of Ten Beach Road, they didn’t realize that remodeling the house would not only bind their fates together but give them a second chance at rebuilding their lives.

Now, as Kyra, Madeline’s daughter, returns to the newly sold Bella Flora for one last Christmas, she’s hoping to get a brief respite from the paparazzi that constantly hounds her and the son she had with famous actor Daniel Deranian. But when a string of bad news threatens to disrupt her happy holidays, Bella Flora’s sanctuary may be threatened for all of the women who call it home…

I write novels that explore friendship, self-discovery and the challenges life brings us, leavened with a touch of humor. I'm proud of all my books and perhaps best known for my "Ten Beach Road" titles including the USA Today bestsellers, Ten Beach Road and The House on Mermaid Point, and for While We Were Watching Downton Abbey.

I was born in St.Petersburg, Florida and grew up on St. Pete Beach within spitting distance of the Gulf of Mexico. I went, appropriately enough, to Sunshine Elementary School where recess and art class sometimes took place on the beach, and the highlight of every school year was the annual fish broil.

It’s hard to be a type-A personality when you grow up in such a laid back environment, but I managed. Convinced that you were expected to know how to read BEFORE you showed up for school, I forced a neighbor friend to teach me to read at the age of five. I’ve been reading ever since.

Books, in all forms, are one of my greatest pleasures and best forms of escape. And they’ve had a major impact on my life.

I went to the University of Georgia after reading Gone with the Wind one too many times. For a while I re-read Margaret Mitchell’s classic yearly, saw the movie whenever it played within twenty miles, and could quote large passages from memory. Today I have a growing GWTW collection, and the time I spoke at he Margaret Mitchell House was an incredible thrill.last

After college I worked in radio, television, and film. Like Olivia in 7 DAYS AND SEVEN NIGHTS, I’ve done live talk radio. I hosted a show in the eighties called Desperate & Dateless, and while I was never locked in an apartment for a week with a webcam rolling as she was, I did fall in love. Happily, the man who swept me off my feet consults with financial types and understands the bottom line. Unlike Olivia’s nemesis, Matt Ransom, my husband has never, to my knowledge, advised anyone to ‘love the one they’re with.’ We live in Atlanta with our two sons.

I really enjoyed catching up with all the fun characters (Avery, Nichole, Madeline, and Kyra) from Ten Beach Road and Ocean Beach (which I loved) in this delightful Christmas novella, CHRISTMAS AT THE BEACH (#2.5 Ten Beach Road).

I am so glad Wendy decided to gather the girls (and guys) together for a celebratory send-off before the sale of the mansion. I always enjoy Florida settings since I reside in South Florida and have lived in other areas of Florida and travel frequently.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn the e-book also includes a preview the next Ten Beach Road series (The House on Mermaid Point coming July 2014). For those of you who have not read While We Were Watching Downton Abbey; there is also a special excerpt included as well.

I am looking forward to The House on Mermaid Point since this one will be set in the Florida Keys (lived there for two years) and it sounds as though the setting will be in the Islamorada area (which is my favorite part of the keys).

This will be the gal’s next Do Over house for the Lifetime TV series. (Each time a mention of landmark I know – keeps me smiling). Of course, the paparazzi is not far behind.

Not to give away; however, it sounds as though this one will be centered around the 61 yr single gentleman (star) who owns the house and is financial trouble and turning his home into a B&B to stay afloat----and possibly a little romance with Madeline (51 –newly divorced). Yum!

How exciting. This should be fun and adventurous, turning this house into a B&B (since I am a hotel consultant).

A great read – love this Atlanta writer! (be sure and read Ten Beach Road first).

First of all I have to say that I have never read anything by Wendy Wax before. When I selected this book from NetGalley, I was actually looking for some reading material for the holidays and when I saw Christmas At The Beach, I thought that I would give it a try.

Having no background to the story, I really didn't have a very good idea of the storyline. I went to Goodreads and read the synopsis of the previous book in the series, Ten Beach Road, to get an idea of the background for this holiday novella. It seems that three strangers, namely Avery, Nichole, and Madeline suddenly find themselves in financial ruin after their shared financial manager takes off with all their money. It seems that all they have left is co-ownership of a run-down beach villa in florida called Bella Flora. The women meet at the villa to figure out what they can do about their situation, and they decide that with the help of a contractor as a guide, they will restore the villa to it's original glory and then sell it and hopefully split the profits. They also agree to have their renovation filmed, sort of like an HGTV type of program.

Now since I haven't read that any of the series except this holiday novella, that is about all I can tell you about the premise of the book. Christmas at the Beach brings the women back together to celebrate the holidays and to learn of the anonymous buyer of the restored beach mansion. This reunion is narrated by Madeline's daughter Kira, who is divorced from a famous actor and is constantly hounded by the paparazzi.

This is a really nice holiday tale that has a little bit of everything - a little suspense, a lot of drama, with some humor thrown in as well. I did enjoy the book, I only wish that I had been able to read the other books in the series prior to this so that I could have had more background on the main characters and the whole beginning of the story. That being said, I enjoyed the writing - Wendy Wax kept the story interesting and made me want to know more. If I can get my hands on the rest of the books in the series, I would like to read them prior to the release of the next book in the series called The House On Mermaid Point. From what I see from other reviews, the author has a solid fan-base and the series seems to be quite popular.

I received this book from NetGalley in return for my honest review.

Set in Pass-a-Grille, Fl is a "Do Over" reality show about making over famous houses, or is it deeper than that?

Kyra Singer, her son Dustin from a married actor, come to Bella Flora, their latest project, to spend a family Christmas before the new owners take residence in January.

It becomes a not so traditional Christmas, but they will definitely have another "Do Over" in other homes and within their own lives.

One year ago a group of family, friends and acquaintances joined together to renovate an old historical beach house, Bella Flora. Madeline Singer, Avery Lawford, and Nicole Grant agreed to a reality-style filming of their efforts, showing their marvelous talents and skills in full force as they took a broken down, almost ready to be demolished home into its full beauty and strengths as a model historical home worthy of its old but gorgeous Florida beach house status. That process wasn’t pretty all the time and betrayals and secrets almost destroyed them each emotionally, as well as financially. Secrets galore threatened as well and here we are a year later in actual and fictional time gradually learning there are still more shocking secrets to shatter the serene Christmas atmosphere. But first there are celebrations for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to be held, with eating, drinking and chatting as the original characters and other relatives gather for their last holiday at Bella Flora.
Kyra, Madeleine’s daughter, is first surrounded by the paparazzi at the airport and in a funny scene escapes their voracious quest for just one picture, and another, and another. It’s not very long after her arrival at the beachfront mansion that a huge, absolutely huge gift arrives from the father of her son, Daniel Deranian, who is already married, with the most horrific virago of a wife one could ever imagine.
Add to that the awareness dawning on Kyra that all is not well between her parents and a later discovery on who has finally bought the redone beauty, Bella Flora, and you begin to get the picture that this is a family that seems to be defined by constant “drama” although not everyone takes it that way.
Still, they find time each evening to have a celebratory drink and offering of what’s good in their worlds which is heartwarming at times and simply lovely at others.
It also turns out that they will begin a new renovation next year somewhere in the Florida Keys, The House on Mermaid Point – something to definitely look forward to reading and sharing!
Christmas at the Beach is a lovely story about a typical yet unique family gathering together to share, bicker, love and heal – like most families wind up doing at holiday time! Great Read!!!

This was such a cute little novella sandwiched in the series. This one is told from Kyra's perspective. She's Maddie's daughter and she has a young son named Damien that is the product of her affair with a famous movie star. The story takes place at Bella Flora (the house they redid in the first book) at Christmas time. The whole crew has gathered there.
Nikki is pretty seriously dating the FBI agent.
Avery is dating Chase but its still pretty early in the process it seems like.
Kyra thinks her parents are still together because her dad and brother come to the house for Christmas and her parents put on a good show, but she overhears her dad talking to another woman. Maddie tells her that they're getting a divorce but didn't want to spoil the kids' holidays so they didn't tell them yet. Kyra is really upset but more just because she feels like life is out of control. Bella Flora has been sold and she finds out that it was by her movie star Ex, Daniel, and his really mean wife Tonja Kay. She called and told Kyra she plans to tear it all out and redo it and it breaks Kyra's heart because the house meant so much to the women. Furthermore, shes constantly hounded by the paparazzi and now her parents are splitting so she just feels like its too much all at once. I think some people could see this as immature and dramatic but I thought it was very relatable and appropriate.
Dierdre is pretty minor in this book and not much happens.
Finally the relationship between Troy and Kyra is still tense. Again I'm predicting a long game enemies to lovers but we'll see. The story ends with him revealing where the next location of their show "Do Over" will be and its somewhere in the Florida Keys. I wonder why all of them are set in the southeast. Maybe thats where Wendy Wax is from? (Update: yes, she is from Florida).
Excited to read the rest!

Christmas at the Beach by Wendy Wax is a novella that sets up the next novel to come in her popular Ten Beach Road series. I have been hooked on this series from the beginning first reading Ten Beach Road and then Ocean Beach. I have become hopelessly entwined in the lives of all the women and it was fun to spend a little Christmas time with them!

All of the ladies: Madeline, Avery, Nicole, Deirdre, and Kyra and of course we can’t forget the sweet baby boy Dustin are spending Christmas at Bella Flora – the very first historic home they renovated. In the pages of this novella we get caught up on our favorite characters lives along with finding out where their next project will be located. There were most definitely some interesting developments and I’m curious to see what will come next.

I really enjoyed my Christmas visit with my favorite ladies and the adorable Dustin and recommend to Ten Beach Road fans for sure! At the end we are treated to a preview of the next Ten Beach Road novel entitled The House on Mermaid Point which is expected in July of 2014. I can’t wait!

Christmas at the Beach sets up the next novel in Wendy Wax’s entertaining series which is expected in 2014. The cast of characters find out the location of their next reno project. Along with that we get brief updates of the women of Ten Beach Road and Ocean Beach. There are changes coming!
Wendy Wax packed a lot into her novella which made me excited to read the next book in the series: The House on Mermaid Point - there’s a preview included. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Madeline, Avery, Nicole, Deirdre and Kyra.
An added bonus is the inclusion of the first two chapters of While They Were Watching Downton Abbey - Wax’s most recent stand alone novel. I really enjoyed that book! 3.5 stars

This is most definitely the shortest Novella I have ever read. I was hoping for more than what I got here. There really was no story to speak of, although it did set up the next book. It was mostly just a recap of what readers of the Ten Beach Road books already know as seen through Kyra's eyes. A couple big "reveals" but nothing that I feel like couldn't have been added on to the next book. I liked it, but was just expecting more since I've really liked all the other books.

Whether you're already a fan of Wendy Wax's fabulous Ten Beach Road series, or looking for the perfect place to jump in, Christmas at the Beach is for you! I've missed these characters and it was so much fun to spend a little more time with them. Now I'm counting the days till I can dive into A House on Mermaid Point!

3.5 stars After reading one of the books in Jennifer L. Hart's "Laundry Hag" series, I wanted to see what the ladies of Ten Beach Road were up to and this was the next book in the series for me to read. It's a novella and I blew through it so fast, it almost seems like cheating to count it towards my Goodreads Challenge for the year!

Told from Kyra's point of view, everyone has gathered back at the newly sold Bella Flora to celebrate Christmas before the new owner takes possession. Kyra is trying to shield now one year old Dustin from the paparazzi with limited success. Avery and Diedre are still somewhat estranged but are working on it. Also estranged are Kyra's parents, Maddie and Steve, which leaves Kyra unsettled as they've been married for over 20 years. Nicole seems happy enough with FBI agent, Joe, and seemed a bit like an afterthought in this one as she's kind of in the background throughout.

It didn't take long for me to figure out who the mystery buyer of Bella Flora was and my only complaint about this novella is that seemed to be an unresolved and unnecessary cliffhanger to basically ruin Christmas with. But as the ebook included the excerpt from book 4 (this is 2.5), it appears that is favorably resolved in book 3. But overall, it was a good, albeit short, visit with some of my favorite characters.

Between House Renovations

In the Ten Beach Road series this is considered 2.5; a novella that takes place at Bella Flora told from Kyra's perspective. All the major characters from the first 2 books are included. One of the things that is revealed is where the network is planning the next season of Do Over (Book 3.) One character is making a life change which is not surprising. You could probably skip this because Wax is almost too thorough getting you caught up on what has previously happened. I like reading the series completely & in order; if you do, too, it won't take long to read this.

I didn't know that this was part of a series and had not read any of the other books. This was an inclusion at the end of A Week at the Lake with totally different characters. That being said, I had no attachment to the characters and they were not explained nor was their story. I just read another person's review and got some information about the characters but not enough. This Novella should have been included at the end of book two for Ten Beach Road instead of at the end of A Week at the Lake.

Makes me want to take a trip to Florida once again!

I have read all of this series so far.I love the character development and enjoy the continuity of reading a series like this. The house remodeling is a fun aspect as well and the fact that these are some hard working ladies. The changing and remodeling of not just the houses but the characters is interesting and keeps me coming back for more. Great beach or poolside reading.

This half entry in the series is told from Kyra's point of view. Gathering at Bella Flora for Christmas is the group that got together to renovate it, Kyra's mom, Maddie, Nikki, Avery, and Dierdre, as they wait on Lifetime's producer of Do Over to let them know where the next season of the show is taking place. And during the holidays, Kyra finds out that not only is her dad seeing someone else, but that her mom and dad are divorcing, and someone has purchased Bella Flora.

While there were two big revelations, but not surprising, from Kyra in this novella, a lot of the text is used to bring the reader up to date on the series so far. I have read the other two and will be moving on to the third book in the series since I am really intrigued by Kyra’s, Avery’s, Maddie’s, Nicole’s and Deirdre’s stories. Also, the supporting sundry of male characters.

This was an interesting short read. I was looking for a Christmas novella, and this was some what Chrismasy. I had not read the other books in this series, so I don't think it fair to say I found the story a little lacking. I enjoyed Wendy Wax's style of writing and hope to read more.

I probably should've read this between the beach road novels 2 and 3, but I thought it was a separate Christmas story that would stand on its own. It is a little reading bridge between what happened in 2 with a little peek at what's going to happen in 3.

A quick read and a good segue to the next book in the series. I'll admit it: I haven't read the preceding Ten Beach Road books. And, it may not be necessary. This title aptly brings the readers up to date. I was able to follow the story fine, and I'm open to giving book #3 try.

I was looking for a cute little Christmas read. Little - definitely, yes. Cute? Maybe if you’d read the others from the series. But since I didn’t know any back story, it was meh for me and not enough Christmas
