After an unjustified stint in purgatory, Scimitar Magus Dakar returns to the human realm, renewing his eons-old curse. When he finds the woman he loves, one of them must die by the other’s hand within two weeks of meeting. To break the vicious cycle, he must kill her before she strikes her deathblow, something he's never done in the past. Archaeology grad student, Shay McGinnis, suffers a near-death attack in pursuit of a piece of Scimitar Magi lore. But did the magnificent warrior who pinned her to the wall injure her or the daemon he fought? In her search for answers, she draws the attention of both an ancient evil sorcerer and Dakar. The attraction between her and Dakar is instant, and for Shay confusing. She wants to be with him, but intuition equates him with death. Not random death. Hers.
Will this be the lifetime they break the curse before they’re murdered by an age-old enemy or worse kill each other yet again?

What a story! It was fast paced and action packed, wildly imaginative yet completely believable, incredibly hot & tenderly sweet. Forward’s fluid writing makes this story very easy to lose yourself in. Her descriptions and narrative bring the world to life in a vivid yet realistic manner that allow you to picture this going on right next door to you.
I found the bochnori to be one of the coolest concepts I’ve ever encountered in a novel. Forward did a fantastic job of developing in in an in depth and captivating manner that truly added to the story. I love the academic bent behind this story. It doesn’t detract from the action packed, magic filled past pace of the story, but it definitely adds a great deal for those of us so inclined.
As far as antagonists go, I really don’t like Terek. He’s the ultimate bad guy, right down to the creepy factor. I appreciate the fact that Forward develops all of the Magi as in-depth characters. They play key roles in the current story without overshadowing the main characters. And the main characters in this novel are out of this world. Separately they are unforgettable individuals, together they are unbeatable. I love the combination of raw & studied in Shay. She was a blast to get to know. Dakar’s conflict between long held beliefs and betrayals is poignantly set against his warrior personality. Together their explosive chemistry and heartbreaking history are unforgettable.
I devoured this in less than 24hrs (and went to work in there somewhere too, counting down the minutes until I could read some more). It held me captive to an extent not even reached by the Black Dagger Brotherhood. It was a fantastically unforgettable novel that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others and will definitely be rereading time & time again.

For two centuries Scimitar Magus Dakar has toiled in the treacherous Middle Realm battling daemons. When the Gods pull Dakar back into the real world, he knows it’s only a matter of time before the curse that has plagued him across time restarts. The curse, to find his reincarnated soul-mate, fall madly in love/lust, and then have one kill the other within two weeks of their first meeting.
Archaeology student Shay has turned the childhood stories of the Scimitar Magi, immortal warriors for the Egyptian Gods, which her mother used to tell her into her PhD thesis. In a desperate attempt to confirm their existence and make her thesis legit, Shay travels to a church in South America. What she finds instead is a flesh and blood Magus mid battle with a very nasty daemon. When that Magus turns his attention to Shay, the familiarity he radiates is anything but comforting.
“He still didn’t meet her gaze. Nor did he make any effort to explain why she remained immobilized between him and the wall. His profiled lips thinned. Situation status: Deep shit.”
Will Dakar be able to jog Shay’s memories of their lives together without ending up dead by her hands? Can the existing Magi brotherhood convince Dakar to rejoin their ranks and serve out his purpose in the protection of the Gods? Will the evil Djoser come to power and claim Shay for his queen?
Straight up, if you are not a solid paranormal fan you may find this a challenging read. Author Zoe Forward throws lore fast and furious including some terms that if you don’t review the glossary at the end of the story before jumping in, you may find yourself scratching your head. Hashishin, akhrian, bochnori, seichim, sesen… these are just a few terms that made me pause and recheck the glossary.
“Djoser wanted what he always sought when in the Human Realm – the Trifecta: the Necherophes wesekh, Anukarati amulet, and the sword of Neith. Three items each with unique qualities that, if brought together and wielded by one user, would grant him power equal only to the gods.”
That said, I am a paranormal fan girl and once I locked down the glossary and found my groove with the story I really started to enjoy it. The concept of a tragic couple toyed with by the Gods, forced to fall in love only to have kill each other than reincarnate and repeat the cycle over hundreds and thousands of years – it’s actually pretty cool. The author jumps straight into action sequences on page one and does not let up for the entire read. The contrast between Dakar’s ancient warrior and Shay’s modern independent woman make them great foils. There are teams of interesting secondary characters from Dakar’s fellow Magi, to a demonic reincarnated pharaoh, mercenaries for hire, and more. All in all I really enjoyed checking this story out and think other paranormal fans would have fun with it too.
Forgotten In Darkness is a follow-up to Dawn of a Dark Knight, which is the story of Prime Magus Ashor and doctor/healer Kira. Though Forgotten In Darkness can be read as a stand-alone story, I think I would have appreciated checking out Dawn of a Dark Knight first. I will be picking that story up and I’ll be on the lookout for any follow-up Scimitar Magus books.
Forgotten in Darkness by Zoe Forward is her 2nd book in her Scimitar Magi Series. To give you a brief description of the premise of this series: There are a group of Scimitar Magus immortal warriors, who are guardians to protect humans against the evil Daemons., not to mention very sexy hunks. In the first book we met Kira, who was destined for Ashor, the Magus’s leader; and she also was the long awaited healer.
In Forgotten in Darkness we get to see all of the group from the first book, and Kira continues to be awesome. But this story belongs to Shay, as our heroine and Dakar, our hero, who have always been destined for each, in each of their lives. When a Scimitar Magus dies, they are reborn, and eventually will remember their past lives. Most of the group do not remember their past yet, but Dakar remembers everything and everyone, including Shay. Early on Dakar came across as arrogant, and not really likable, but he has been locked in the middle realm for two centuries by the gods, who have now decided to release him to help the group fight off the evil Daemons.
Dakar knows he has a short time left before he and Shay must die again, at each others hands. This was a curse put on both of them by the evil Daemon/Sorcerer Djoser, which forces one to kill the other. Dakar loves Shay, and tries to get her to remember their past. Shay, who lives as a human, has been researching the Scimitar Magus, and this research brings her straight into the arms of Dakar, and the rest of the group, including the evil Djoser.
What follows is an exciting story, non-stop intense action with all of our favorites fighting to save a young boy (a reborn magus), who may have answers to end this curse. I really enjoyed seeing many of the characters from the first book, loved Kira, and now Shay, as these women are not afraid to stand up to the men. I enjoyed the new found powers that Shay begins to discover along the way. Forward not only has excellent secondary characters, but she adds a lot of humor into the story. I got to like Dakar better later on, and it was fun to see his reactions to modern things or slangs. His love for Shay, and her uncontrollable reactions to him was great. I look forward to more stories about these wonderful group of men and woman, and their fight against evil.
Book two in the Scimitar Magi is slightly different from the first. Another paranormal romance that deepens into the world created by Zoe and leaves you waiting for more.
This time we have Dakar, an ancient Magus released from purgatory after spending the last two centuries there. With all his memories and a curse at his back, he is back ready to face the demons and love. Shay, an archaeology grad student who is not afraid of getting her hands dirty, gets too close to the legends and ancient religions she study when a demon attacks her and she is saved by a mystery man.
After their first encounter we have to wait a lot of chapters for them to be reunited. This for me was a thing that put the book on a slow level. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of action, explosion, fights and adrenaline runs through those chapters but the sexual tension is almost non-existing. Luckily, the waiting is rewarded with lots of pages full with the kind of romance we like.
Dakar and Shay are amazing characters, with so many layers that is easy to picture them as real. They also have a past in common, which is incredible described and created. The author does an outstanding work writing about the ancient Egypt and the gods. The words flow naturally and the language is engaging and easy to read.
One of the best parts is the apparition of the different deities. They really like to have fun messing with everyone’s lives and they are not ashamed of it.
Another good thing is that we still get to read about the characters we felt in love the first time (Ashor and Kira). Mainly is the story of a new magus but he is part of a bigger world and I loved how the author joins their stories.
Overall, the sequel is everything you would expect. The magi continue being sexy, strong, brave and hot. I can’t wait for their next adventure.
*** I received an ARC from the author in exchange of an honest review. ***
Shay finds herself attacked and wounded while hunting for Scimitar Magi relics. Her memory is shady at best but what she does remember is of a gorgeous man threatening her then being attacked by what she can only describe as a daemon. Her memory despite her injuries is quite accurate and the gorgeous man is the man she is meant to kill and has killed time and time again through a curse that has connected them for ages. Dakar is back from being held in the Middle Realm, a sort of purgatory. He immediately runs into his mate (Shay) and knows what will be happening soon. Though Shay does not remember all of her past lives with Dakar she knows she has an insatiable attraction to him. Dakar meets up with the other reincarnated Magi and reluctantly takes his place among them. While getting back in the swing of things with the other Magi, Shay is finding herself in loads of trouble from a daemon connected to both her and Dakar. In the end will the curse be the only thing binding them or will they be able to be free without either one dying?
This was a great paranormal romance. It had the right amount of paranormal and romance with just a touch of suspense. You are really drawn into this new world and learn more about these descendents of Egyptian Gods. This was definitely a unique book. I have read my share of the group of hot guys who go out saving the world. But, this back story with the reincarnation was excellent. Zoe Forward is a great storyteller and I can’t wait to go back and read the first book. I hope she continues on with this series. It definitely one that those of you who love paranormal romance serials will want to snap up. Overall, an enthralling story with lots of love, adventure and Egyptian Gods.
A new adventure for the band of amazingly sexy, superhuman men charged with protecting humanity from the things that go bump in the night. Actually the star in this book for me was the heroine, Shay.
I found that Shay was the only really memorable character for me. We didn't spend as much time with the other's in the group and I felt a little distant from them because of that. I had enjoyed the group's dynamics but missed out on that with this book. Shay, however, was a fairly well written character with a strong backbone. I liked how she took charge of the situations but this ultimately cost our hero, Dakar, some of his alpha status. It was a little hard to believe how a young woman was able to take on Daemons but an alpha male with hundreds of years of fighting experience seemed like he was having a harder time of it. Overall, I liked their chemistry and their dedication to working on their relationship.
This book was non-stop action for me. Even when at rest, the group was being menaced by the enemy. While it was engaging, I did sometimes wish for a bit of rest where we could have more character development.
Overall, a good installment in the series.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review - Lovers of Paranormal.
A brilliant continuation from the first book, Dawn of a Dark Knight. Again sexy, kick-arse immortal warriors with even more amusing banter between them this time. Now we have two feisty leading ladies that aren't afraid to put these men in their place - like family meal Wednesdays!! There are so many laugh-out-loud moments - be careful where you read :-) The dynamic between the characters just keeps getting better. Not so much of Eric and his family this time which was a shame, nice touch with Dakar and the baby though even if a liitle predictable, its always a nice touch. I liked the continuation of the character development that Dakar and his memories hrought to the story. A strong plot that kept me gripped to the end. Lots of action with a humorous twist now the brothers are reunited.
I can't wait for the next book to find out more about these sexy guys and, I'm sure, meet a new woman for one of them. I hope there will be one.
Is there anything more delicious than a tattooed band of badass warriors? Zoe Forward might have created the best brotherhood since BDB and Dark-Hunters!
Shay McGinnis is on an expedition to hunt down an old ship's diary clue to a ring that will help her with her thesis proving the existence of a group known as the Scimitar Magi. When she arrives at the church where it is held, she encounters something unexpected. A huge male, striking and very dangerous confronts her in a crazy fashion, but then they are interrupted by a creature who came straight out of a fantasy movie. She helps fight it off only to wake up later out of a comatose state with a vague idea of what had happened.
Dakar is pulled out of the purgatory he has been in for 200 years only to come face to face with the woman he has been cursed to kill or be killed by over and over with each reincarnated life. This time he is determined to get her first. Something is wrong though. Usually when they find each other, her past life memories come back to her, but this time she doesn't remember him or the past. In fact she is a modern female who thinks he's crazy. Unfortunately she disappeared and he was taken by the local Columbian police as a murder suspect for the demon he destroyed. After days in his cell, a strange woman who is the latest magi healer comes to him with the intent of bringing him back into the magi fold. Dakar has no intentions of completing that vow when he was tricked by the gods and spent all that time suffering in purgatory. He needs to find that woman and kill her before she can kill him so they can break the curse.
Djoser and his Assassins are still on the prowl determined to destroy the Magi and find a way to remain in the human realm permanently. His men have been taking promising children who may be pre-Magis before they are old enough to get their power and take their vows. One has come that he suspects might be the Spellcaster who will help him win it all. Cy is young and when the demon touches him all his past life knowledge returns to him, but he needs to fake it until rescue.
Through a varied set of circumstances, the whys and wherefores of the story wind out so all the early scenes make sense. It gets pretty exciting and there is that condemned love plot going along with the advancement of the overall story arc. Secrets are revealed as are new magi and contact with new gods. Characters from the previous story get some big scene time too.
With this sequel, it jumps right in and assumes the reader has read the first book. Like the first book, I had parts that I enjoyed and parts that really didn't do it for me. I do love the whole Magis world that is built on Egyptian mythology along with demons and I love this brotherhood of guys that do the fighting. I love how they interact and fight alongside each other. The wisecracks and camaraderie are great. It was cool in this one that there were two siblings added to the dynamic. The fight scenes work and are probably the best part of the book for me. I even like the worthy opponents who they battle. The demons are just as tenacious as the warriors. I read on eagerly to discover how the author would get Dakar and Shay's cursed to kill their lover thing fixed with the clock ticking down for the curse to kick in and have one of them killing the other for them to do it all again in the next life.
What trips me up in these books is the women and the romances (or lack there of). Shay seemed so ditzy to me. For most of the book, she just tripped around in and out of trouble needing constant rescue. She does the stupidest things and gets stubborn all at the wrong time. A wise man tells her not to go looking for dark magik users so she heads directly to find her step-brother who she knows killed his father, her brother and a pet. Um-kay. Dakar just seemed so much more. He had strong heroic qualities and Shay? She just seemed like comic relief- well not quite that bad.
The other female in the book, Kira, who was the last book's heroine, just seems on a power trip (secret domme perhaps?) loving to boss the big males even her man like she's their mama and zap them when they don't agree with her plan. Nope, wasn't feeling it with the ladies in this one.
The relationship for this story is nearly non-existent. I'm actually one who can be down with the whole fated mate stuff, but even I draw the line when there's just nothing to convince me the two are anything more than snarling people with raging libidos. Other than two sex scenes there was no connection between Shay and Dakar and they weren't even on friendly terms during either of them. Shay went from being scared of the big bad man to can't live without him. I'll give you that Dakar at least had all that past life knowledge going for them and knew that he loved her even if he's grown embittered and just wants to break the curse hoping they can still be together when all's said and done. Truthfully, a few tender scenes in the midst of all the demon fighting would have done the trick for me. And that contrived separation thing I did not get the purpose for at all. It didn't even stir an emotion in me other than impatience to just please get on with it because we know they'll be back together.
Okay, so to pull it all together...I'm into this series and want to see what happens next. I love those hints about the big, bad eleventh warrior and the new developments amongst the other magi. I look forward to who gets their book next. I had some frustration, but I also had a good time with this story. Love these lethal and protective demon fighters!
Paranormal Romance fans who enjoy a dose of heat in the romance, dark heroes with their sassy heroines and are open to creative use of Egyptian mythology in the story should give this series a try.
3.5 to 4 Stars for my first shot at this author's Urban fantasy series.
This is quite a departure from my typical reading genre, but I will say that it was not any less interesting to me. This is a book in Zoe Forward’s Scimitar magi series that follows after Dawn of a Dark Night. I did not read book one initially, therefore I will admit to being a bit in the dark regarding the Scimitar history, however, I did find the pieces easy to pick up once the magi journey continued.
Forgotten in Darkness is the story of Scimitar magnus Dakar and his journey out of purgatory after two centuries of unjustified punishment. Upon his release he is faced with the lifelong curse of killing or being killed by his one true love. For centuries he has suffered his death repeatedly at the hands of his senariai, or destined woman, which ultimately kills her also. He must find her and kill her first before she can strike her deathblow. This will end the curse. His journey to end this curse puts him on the path of archeology grad student Shay McGinnis who has no idea why she has been drawn into daemon lore, let alone finding herself under attack and under lust by the dark Dakar.
This books is obviously a continuation in that magnus warrior lore. I will admit again to not being in the complete know of the Scimitar magi story, so many of the magnus warriors and their interaction and stories were secondary to me. I focused on the characters the book was set for, Shay and Dakar. Their connection was immediate and their chemistry was fairly hot. I enjoyed the push pull relationship of wanting each other so badly it was painful, yet needing to be rid of each other at the same time.
Overall I found this book to have good action and great banter amongst the characters. I liked the chemistry and heat between Dakar and Shay so being a romance book I was hoping for a bit more. I was often yelling for these two to finally give in to one another and it seemed as if I had to wait forever! I would have loved them to have more time together to explore the heat they created. I also struggled with some of the roughness with the transitions between scenes especially from past to present times. This wasn’t a deterrent at any time, but it did slow me down a time or two in my need to understand when, where and who the scene was pertaining to. I like to think I will be reading more from this author to find out what happens to remaining Magnus warriors as my interest has been peaked!

I do read an unhealthy amount of paranormal romance – and, after a while, vampires, demon hunters and shifters can all start to get a bit samey – fortunately Forgotten in Darkness gives us a whole new world to look at and introduces us to a very imaginative concept of heroes that are the descendants of the Egyptian Gods.
The romance between the two main characters was a little too overdone for my tastes, although it was very tastefully brought forward as a plot point and I couldn’t fault the prose. To be fair to the author though, this was book 2 in a series and without reading book 1 first, I perhaps missed some of the crucial build-up between them that might have explained the relationship better. Once again, Shay falls into the scatty female leads that seem to crop up time and again with paranormal romance and several times I wished I could slap some sense into her!
From a writer’s perspective, there were a lot of new terminology thrown in and I felt a little jolted every time I had to skip to the glossary at the back to figure something out. I’m not a big fan of this, as it tends to dissect the dialogue or action or even the flow of the book for the reader, leaving them feeling that that they need a text book and notes to make it through and understand everything that is going on. That said, I am well aware that when building a fantasy world for your characters a certain amount of new/ or unfamiliar words must be used to create the feeling in the reader that they are somewhere different; the classic example I can give here is Harry Potter – massive world building that transported the reader into an entirely different world and created an almost unheard of vocabulary to go with it. I mean, I think people actually now try to play Quidditch!
The front cover is nice, but doesn’t give much away. Surely a little nod to the Egyptian lore in the book would have set it apart from the millions of other books in this genre. Still, I’ve seen a hell of a lot worse!
Overall I’d give Forgotten in Darkness 4 out of 5 stars. I perhaps should have read the first book, but even though I didn’t, it was still an imaginative and enjoyable read for fans of the PR genre.
I received a free copy in exchange of an honest review (Lovers of Paranomal).
Ok, I'll start by saying this book was good, but not spectacular. The beginning was a bit slow and I found it hard to get hooked and interested in the story for the first half of the book. After a while, it got more interesting and I got curious. But I have to admit I felt sort of detached from the characters at times. I wasn't in my usual state "I cannot put this book down". But still, the story was good and interesting enough that kept me reading. The main characters weren't to die for. Shay was very stupid and reckless for the first part of the story. She felt in her guy that she was in danger and shouldn't go through with her plan, but went for it anyway. Stupid! And it was frustrating seeing her rejecting Dakar so many times, even though it was obvious they were somehow connected and she was attracted to him. I wanted to slap her!! I liked her a little better later on in the story. And I liked Dakar, but couldn't find him that hot. Probably not my type, physically. I liked his protectiveness and possessiveness. Except when after they thought they lifted the curse, he acted like a stupid jerk. Wanted to punch him in the face! Idiot of a man! Djoser was pure evil, creepy and gross. Ashor was a bit annoying and too angry. I liked Cy. And I foresee a future book for him and his mate. I liked Kira a lot. She's a kickass! And poor woman what she has to deal with! I also liked Khyan. Well, he was a bit crazy when fighting daemons, but he was also kind of fun and cute. Yeah, I may have a little crush here. Can't help it! Discovering Shay's father was a bit of a shock. Wow, talk about weirdness! All in all, a nice read. And I'm curious to read more about Khyan. I guess there'll be a book for him too. I hope so.
Many past lives have been spent under a curse that leaves the main characters of FORGOTTEN IN DARKNESS without the one that they love the most. During this life Shay doesn't remember who she is or who Dakar is to her. She does know that she is drawn to him but also fears him at the same time. Dakar has spent the last two centuries in purgatory keeping the one who cursed him and his love trapped. Now they are both free and he needs to keep Shay safe while also trying to break the curse that will leave him dead, again.
I enjoyed both Dakar and Shay. Dakar was dark and mysterious. He came of as brutish but once you got to know him you can't help but see him like Shay saw him all those lifetimes ago. Shay stands up for herself pretty well. She charges head first into danger but also seems vulnerable at times. The chemistry between the two was always pretty good but they both fight against their feelings for each other until the end. There were plenty of twists thrown into the plot involving Shay's parents, her step brother, etc. The action was non-stop and I enjoyed meeting all the other Magi. They truly are a team and work well together.
I was a little hesitant to read FORGOTTEN IN DARKNESS because I didn't read book 1 in the Scimitar Magi series but the author assured me that it could be read as a stand alone and she was right, I didn't feel lost at any point in the book. You could tell that there was continuation of a story that was already told but the book itself seemed to have its own plot that was well in hand by the end of the book. I'm not really one to read backwards so I probably wont be going back to book 1 but I look forward to book 3!
* This book was provided free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book in the Scimitar magi series that I've had the chance to read. Forgotten in Darkness does not disappoint. The connection between Shay and Dakar was instant but we got to see the progression of their newest life cycle love and instead of it being instant whammie. Their encounters at the beginning are so entertaining especially when Shay pepper sprays him. I liked Shay because she has that feisty attitude and didn't bow down to Dakar. It's no fun if the heroine doesn't have a voice. Even when she's scared she still makes a choice for herself and it's nice to have a hero who would gracefully, or as well as a scimitar magi can, accept her decision. I also liked how the author did not draw out the whole I-love-you-so-I-need-to-leave-you thing and didn't beat it to death with a dead horse. It was long enough to get the feels for the characters, but short enough that you didn't want to strangle them. All the characters are entertaining and the author has done a fine job in making them interesting enough to want to read their stories, and the story itself was intriguing. My only complaint is that some of the transitions from one scene to the other were not as smooth as I normally like and I would of liked more details when it came to certain things, but it didn't stop me from devouring the book. All in all it's a great story and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. *book provided by the Author through PNR NaUBA group Author/Reader Exchange*

Forgotten in Darkness is Zoe Forward‘s second installment in her Scimitar Magi series. You can read the review of the first book in this series, Dawn of a Dark Knight HERE.
The pages of Forgotten in Darkness are lined with Egyptian history, legends, and gods adding depth and unexpected twists to every page. As we learn more about the ancient Magi and their history, I feel myself falling into the world with them. Forward does an incredible job describing every character with their own uniqueness and quirks and this does not stop with just the protagonists. The villain in Forgotten in Darkness plays a great and evil roll in the past and current conflict. This element adds a polished feel to this layered plot line and aiding to prove a natural feel to the flow of the story.
Forgotten in Darkness focused on the relationship between Dakar and Shay who have been cursed for multiple reincarnations to kill one another after they come together in every new life. I loved this predestined struggle and conflict with a twist of repeated homicide. Don’t judge me. ;) Dakar brings a lot to the back story of the Scimitar Magi series as well as a few new characters. I cannot wait to read more about this world.
I believe Forgotten in Darkness would appeal to any Paranormal or Urban Fantasy fan!

Forgotten in Darkness is the story of Scimitar magnus Dakar and his journey out of purgatory after two centuries of unjustified punishment. Upon his release he is faced with the lifelong curse of killing or being killed by his one true love. This damnation came at the hands of a powerful dark Egyptian pharaoh whose bride Shaiani was stolen by Dakar, thus binding them to each other through a life of love then death. For centuries he has suffered his death repeatedly at the hands of his senariai, or destined woman, which ultimately kills her also. He is determined now to find her and kill her first before she can strike her deathblow, thus ending the curse. His journey to end this curse puts him on the path of archeology grad student Shay McGinnis who has no idea why she has been drawn into daemon lore, let alone finding herself under attack and under lust by the dark Dakar.
3.5 This is a fun continuation of the Scimitar Magi series. We meet up with all of our old friends from book one, see some change in a couple of them and then meet a few new ones.
Shay and Dakar make a fun couple. Shay is pretty much fearless and, though Dakar was supposed to smoulder, what I enjoyed most were his lost-little-boy moments as he tried to acclimate to modern times. I also have to say 'thank you' to Ms. Forward for the formula-breaaking new addition to the team. I can't wait to see them interact with the crew in future books.
I did feel like everything was a little too easy for everyone though. But that might just be me.
All in all, I enjoyed the book. It was well written. I didn't notice any editorial issues and the cover is a vast improvement on book one. Again, I'll be looking forward to the next book.
I really liked this book, but I warn you not to start reading this on a work night. I was up till 4:30 in the morning, because I couldn’t put it down. Although this is the second book in the series is done well as a stand alone. I have not read the first book, yet. The first few pages were a bit slow, but after the first six or seven pages it moves right along and you’re hooked.
While looking for proof of the Scimitar Magi, of which is the topic of her Ph.D. thesis, Shay is waylaid by a mysterious, gorgeous, tatted hunk. Dakar and Shay’s chemistry is electric from beginning to end. The world of the Magi, the warriors and their women are fascinating. I would definitely like to see this book made into a movie. The fight scenes between the daemon and the Magi would be spectacular, but I would pay money to see Dakar perform hip rolls in the Latin dance with Shay. And since movies are never as good as the book, this should tell you how great is this book.
Bring ice, a fan, and a desire to be entertained and inspired.

With ancient curses and dangerous monsters to contend with Shay has a lot more to worry about than some ancient artifacts. The world building in this story was very well done. I loved how the author was able to interweave ancient myths and magic into the modern world. Their was also plenty of action and adventure in some exotic locales. Also there was of course a healthy dose of some steamy romance!
Shay is an intelligent and strong woman, but all her courage will be put to the test when she is attacked by an ancient evil. I enjoyed her wit an tenacity. She was definitely no quitter and pulled through even when things got tough. I also really enjoyed her banter with Dakar.
Dakar was one sexy warrior. He was strong, loyal, and a bit stubborn. I loved seeing him get to Shay. Their interactions were always interesting. He was a great hero and match for Shay. They really brought out the best in each other.
If adventure and romance is what your looking for, look no further than "Forgotten in Darkness"!
This is the first book that I have read by Zoe Forward and I was not disappointed. Forgotten in Darkness is an action packed paranormal romance. I loved all of the characters and was totally drawn into this story line. Zoe has a wonderful talent for writing a story that captures you and you do not want to put it down. Her ability to describe her characters, especially the daemons (which I would not ever want to meet in a dark alley after reading this book) was amazing! I could picture them as if they were right in front of me. It was full of action, love and suspenseful moments. I loved Shay and how strong and feisty she is. She made me laugh and want to shake her at times. Dakar is a strong warrior who protects the human race and fights for those he loves and holds close to his heart. The connection between Shay and Dakar was instant and the determination to work on their relationship so it would not follow those of past lives was great. I really enjoyed Forgotten in Darkness and look forward to future books from Zoe. Thank you Zoe for this wonderful story!
With a fresh new take on paranormal romance Zoe Forward is great. Forgotten in Darkness is the second installment of her Magi series, where Zoe brings the reader into a fresh new world readers in the paranormal romance genre really haven't gotten to tap into. In Forgotten in Darkness Dakar and Shay are reunited in their most recent incarnation where both their love and their curse follow their every move. Zoe keeps the story amped up through the entire book both in thrilling anticipation and strong character leads. She also adds a fun and tantalizing chemistry and very steamy love scenes that will make readers squirm in their seats. Zoe has done a fabulous job, I can't wait to read more in the future!
It always amazes me how authors can come up with good story lines. This is another example. I was hooked from the beginning. I loved the connection between Shay and Dakar. Shay is drawn to Dakar from the moment they met. They have met during many past lives always being drawn to each other only to have it end shortly after meeting because of a curse. Will this time be the same or will they finally be able to break the curse and live happily ever after. I loved the characters. I was hesitant in the beginning because I've never read anything with Egyptian mythology in it but I was definitely not disappointed because I liked the story a lot. It was easy to follow and was packed with action and nasty demons. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Another brilliantly written read. It has a really imaginative plot that kept me glued throughout and lots of interesting and complex characters. I loved Shay and Dakar's story, heartbreaking really, watching their struggles and hearing about their past..let's just say I'm really looking forward to whoever can wield that sword. I'm looking forward to reading more and I hope we get a story on Kane and Astrid somewhere too, Astrid seems like a great kick ass, hard as nails female that won't take any crap

I loved this book i have to say i haven't read the first book but and i guess thats why i was confused for a while but it was beautifully written and i truly enjoyed this book. I loved Shay and Dakar's story but i found it sad that they were cursed to repeat the past over and over due to a curse i won't say why because it would kill the story but the fact that they have to fight their past and the fact they have to do something they don't want to do cause of a curse. A continuous loop of the past. Will they break the curse? will the curse ruin Shay and Dakar's love life? Will they have a happy ending well you have to buy the book to find out.
I got this book from the author in return for an honest review. When I started this book I did not realize it was part of a series, and even though this is book 2 I did not feel left behind on any of the action. I enjoyed the Egyptian history that was revealed throughout the book but wish there had been more world building in the book (there may have been more in the first book, will have to check it out). Even without the world building I truly enjoyed the premise of this book and will look forward to more from this author.
Loved this book! It is such a great love story. The fact that Dakar can remember all his past lives is amazing. The down side is he remembers how he dies. I love the time he is with Shay. She is such a fun and warm person. She was hurt so many times, but she learns to trust her heart. I love the magic involved in this story. I also love the chemistry between Dakar and Khyan. They are strong brothers who really truly care for one another and have fun in the process. Dakar and Shay's is a love that lasts through many lives. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great magical romance!
Great continuation of this sexy series! I enjoyed the new depth given to many of the characters. The pace is exciting and keeps you going right to the end. The effortless investment in the background info is woven throughout the book so it never seems to stall the action. Looking forward to the next installment!
