An alpha empath, Danyael Sabre has survived abominations and super soldiers, terrorists and assassins, but he cannot survive his failing body. He wants only to live out his final days in peace, but life and the woman he loves, the assassin Zara Itani, have other plans for him.
Galahad, the perfect human being created by Pioneer Labs, is branded an international threat, and Danyael is appointed his jury, judge, and executioner. Danyael alone believes that Galahad can be the salvation that the world needs, but is the empath blinded by the fact that Galahad shares his genes, and the hope that there is something of him in Galahad?
In a desperate race against time and his own dying body, Danyael struggles to find fragments of good in the perfect human being, and comes to the wrenching realization that his greatest battle will be a battle for the heart of the man who hates him.
Jade Kerrion, an award-winning author, got her start in fan fiction. She developed a loyal reader base with her fan fiction series based on the MMORPG Guild Wars. She was accused of keeping her readers up at night, distracting them from work, housework, homework, and (far worse), from actually playing Guild Wars.
And then she wondered why just screw up the time management skills of gamers? Why not aspire to screw everyone else up too? So here she is, writing books that aspire to keep you from doing anything else useful with your time.
She lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her wonderfully supportive husband and her two young sons, Saint and Angel, (no, those aren't their real names, but they are like saints and angels, except when they're not.)
What an incredible fantastic story.....again Jade can keep me awake till I finish the book.... The way Jade Kerrion can actually describe and put in words feelings and emotions is incredible....it can bring me to tears , break my heart or draw a smile on my face her books have depth, meanings and questions that actually keeps me awake thinking and daydreaming for days after i finish them.... I enjoyed the story a lot a lot a lot..... And I can never get enough of the double helix and danyael `s world Applause for the auther..
Perfection Challenged is the perfect conclusion for this collection set written by Jade Kerrion. Just when you think the author must be out of ideas by now, well think again, she is far from it and everything she has meticulously set up in the previous 3 books is finally coming together in a big crescendo! She left little bread crumbs here and there, sometimes leading you down the wrong path as you will find out like I did, to bring it all together in the end. The best part, not is there only lots of action in this story, it is also packed with character development! Who would think that it would also boil down to that and in the midst of it all, is Danyael’s unwavering belief in humanity. The pace is filled with constant action, never leaving you with a second to take a breath.
The way this book ends is probably why it is my favorite in all the books. Yes, his life is not perfect, there are still some issues, but because of his trust in humanity and how Danyael treats people, is the reason on why this book ends the way it does, and yes, I know the author wrote it but she wrote it that way because it makes sense. So yes, I love this collection and this series all together so I for one will get more books from this author.
When I first saw the synopsis for Sicarius Soul. I was surprised. Here was a whole series I didn't know about and it sounded great. Amazon said I already owned several and a quick look into my reading queue and I found the earlier books. I immediately moved them to the head of the list and I was not wrong to do so. I quickly read - Miriya, then Perfection Unleashed (Double Helix #1), Perfect Betrayal (Double Helix #2), Perfect Weapon (Double Helix #3), Perfection Challenged (Double Helix #4) and then Sicarius Soul.
An incredible world Jade built with diverse interesting characters, all with a different challenge, and yet all intertwined. I definitely read way into the night on every one of these stories. The great news is that there are several more stories in this world for me to read.
As for the last installment, it kept me reading and interested, although I don't really know why.
I am not really interested in any of the characters. And there are plot holes galore (e.g. why use Danyael's looks as genetic template for Galahad, the perfect human being, if the creator has seen Danyael last when he was two or three years old. Pretty todlers can become not very pretty adults...and the whole explanation that Danyael's genes were somehow his father's ticket to immortality didn't make any sense...)
So.
Still a recommended read, if you don't want to think too much, just some action packed UF story about genetics and mutants...
Alright I give, this author’s ability to build suspense and twist emotions is unrelenting. Every book within this series that I rated lower was well enough written to rate higher, except for the fact that they left me a basket case of wrung out emotions. I just recommend reading the case files interspersed with the four main novels to get the whole story. Very well done Ms Kerrion.
What an amazing original story. Fantastic character structure and world building! Action packed for the opening chapter! An absolute must read. Very hard to set it down. I hope that she will continue to build these characters in new adventures
Found the book of Miriya by chance and ended reading the next 4 books of Double Helix series in 3 weeks. A captivating story entangled between characters with different backgrounds coming together, no matter their differences.
I loved this series. It was nice for me to read something different from my usual dystopian books. I enjoyed the aspect of clones along with the sixth sense abilities.
Had to start this final book after #3. It was getting very unputdownable. Some twists in this final book that gets your head spinning. The ? is what to read next as the other books go back in time.
If I could give this book 3.5 stars I would. And the extra half star is because the ending was all right. Too many times I looked up from the book and thought "OMG, this has turned into an insipid Y/A paranormal romance novel." Not what I had signed up for. The key people in the book are mostly telepathic or empathic and yet they are so hopeless when it comes to their interpersonal skills. There was too much cutesy angst and irrational behavior. Yes, I realize it can mostly be explained away as a result of psychic meddling in people's minds but, seriously, I'm not buying it.
Jade Kerrion has done it again! I started Perfection Challenged at midnight, finished it at 4.30 am, and cried bucket loads.
Perfection Challenged brings us the conclusion of the heart-rending, rollercoaster of a journey that started with Zara Itani breaking out the genetically engineered, perfect human being, Galahad, from Pioneer Labs almost three years previously. Throughout the four books, I have raged, cried, and cheered for Danyael Sabre, the main protagonist of this excellent series. Sabre, the very real human template upon which Galahad is based, is one of the most complex characters I have ever read. Although he frustrated me in the first book, I now understand why Kerrion has portrayed him the way she has throughout this series. For Sabre is without a doubt the most powerful being in this entire series and his greatest strength lies in the fact that he rarely exercises his astounding powers and shows the most admirable restraint under the most dire of circumstances. And Kerrion makes his circumstances very, very dire indeed, with an unexpected twist at the very outset of this book that will break the hearts of those who love this character.
As much as this book is an action-packed, science-fiction thrill ride, it is also very much about the triangle of Sabre, Galahad, and Itani. All three characters have grown and become more focused in what they want from each other and out of life in this final book. Kerrion brings the tortured love story between Sabre and Itani to a satisfying conclusion (for once, Itani did not grate on my nerves in this book), and explores the multifaceted depths of the love-hate relationship between Sabre and Galahad to the fullest. We get to meet some of the other recurring characters from the previous book and one very unexpected one to say the least!
The Double Helix series is far from over and the next installment will come in the form of Carnival Tricks, the Double Helix Case Files #1, to be released in 2014. Kerrion has also hinted on her blog that we may yet see more of Sabre in future books based in the Double Helix world. I for one can't wait and I hope to see Lucien and Luke Winters again.
Wow, what an adventure. Another outstanding book by Jade Kerrion.
The love story between Danyael Sabre and Zara Itani at times brought tears to my eyes. The emotion brought out in Ms. Kerrion’s words is an incredible gift that the author infuses into her words.
The powerful journey of Danyael and Galahad kept me gripped throughout the book. Galahad’s hatred of Danyael is so powerful that it keeps the story alive and flowing, and yet Galahad’s confusion of Danyael’s care of him makes you think about those emotions and feelings you may have in your own life.
Although this story could end with this book. I do so hope there will be more. Once again a superb work from Jade Kerrion.
In a few short words, what I can say of this book is that you literally cannot put it down without finishing the story. With this book, the Double Helix series is completed. And what an excellent ending to an equally amazing series.
From the start, the characters grip you and you literally fall for each of them in different ways.
My one real regret? That there may be no more books in this series and I have to say goodbye to the amazing characters. Zara, Danyael, Xin, maybe even Galahad. But especially Danyael.
Jade has earned her reputation for writing stories that keep you up all night reading. Soon as I finished one I grabbed up the next and the next. I was not disappointed in the conclusion. I held out hope for Danyael that he would find peace if not happiness. I lamented that Galahad would never find the answer to his own peace. And in the end I still wanted to bitch-slap Xin for the way she used everyone. She and Danyael are more opposite then Zara and Danyeal. For Din the end justifies the means. But Danyeal proved that the means creates the proper end.
Possibly the finest and best written multi-volume story that I've ever read. The characters are supremely well developed, the plot is so well thought out that it boggles the mind to try and review and the action is consistently some of the best in any series or single book that I've read in ages. So glad I read this!!
