Fly.
“What does it mean?? For some reason, my voice comes as a whisper.
“It’s what you need to do, kitten. Fly. Let yourself go. Set yourself free.” Spencer’s voice rustles as he speaks. He doesn’t break eye contact once. “Shake off whatever limitations confine you, and start living your life.”
His kiss was molten fire and fury. When our lips met, I became his.
“Wow,” Spencer intones. “You really don’t like me, huh?”
I offer a fake smile. “What’s there to like? You sleep around. You treat woman like dirt. You’re breash and arrogant. You’ve probably got a hundred different STD’s.”
Spencer shakes his head. “You’re assuming.”
"I promise," I whisper. Who is this man, to care so much about me? Seeing the compassion, the concern, on his face is something I never could have expected. Not out of Spencer.
But we all have a mask we show to the world that hides who we really are.
Few will know his performance for what it really is. Few will sense the richer, more subtle layer hidden underneath his words.
The people around me will not know. It is through no fault of theirs. It does not mean they are immune to Spencer’s spell. All is means is that the song is not for them.
It’s for me.
Kissing Spencer was unlike anything I’d felt before. It was exciting because it was forbidden. Thrilling because it was so dangerous. Guilt tears at me for secretly wanting more. Need makes my body shake.
"...You were unlike anyone I’ve ever met. And I felt this need, this overwhelming desire, to protect you from all the harm in the world. That was the moment you stole my heart."
"Memories of my teens flash through my mind: My grandmother chastising me for wanting to go to the eighth grade dance with a boy. The mantra drilled into me at the all-girls boarding school I attended the last four years that sex is bad. The way my whole life has been structured to teach me the dangers of pre-marital sex."
"That line reveals it to me. Now, I understand. I understand what drives him. I understand that the arranged words are so perfect that they might have been lifted from the depths of his soul.
He is not just singing. He is giving us a glimpse of his heart.
The distinction is almost imperceptible. Few will now his performance for what it really is. Few will sense the richer, more subtle layer hidden underneath the words.
The people around me will not know. It is through no fault of theirs. It does not mean they are immune to Spencer's spell. All it means is that the song is not for them.
It's for me."
