This review was originally posted at The Book NymphoWith so many vampire paranormal romances out there it’s really refreshing to read one that has a different sin on vampires. Sara Humphrey’s Vampire Trouble has some of what I’ve come to think of as basic vampire elements but then she twist them to make them her own unique creatures.

Basic Vamp Characteristics:

Fangs. Check
Drinks blood. Check
Super speed. Check
Avoids the sun. Check

Some Not so Basic Vamp Characteristics:

Bloodmates
Daywalkers
Pregnant Vamps
Can Fly
Telepathic

Maya Roberston is a baby vamp. She was turned five years ago in order to save her life after she was attacked. She a blonde bomb shell with a full dose of snark and has no need for a man unless he’s human, a creep and she’s hungry.

Shane Quesada is an old vamp (400 years) and a loner. Oh and sexy as hell even if smiling would hurt him. Shane is a warrior and in his long vampire life has never allowed himself to fall in love but night after night he stalks Maya the pretty bartender at the local vampire friendly bar.

Both Maya and Shane are jaded but in different ways and for different reasons. But there’s no doubt they are attracted to each other. And when they are put together in order to stop a war that Maya’s actions may have started. Oh and Maya has a mysterious past that not even she knows the truth about.

Vampire Trouble is my first Sara Humphrey’s book and it will not be my last. Next on my TBR is the first book in the Dead in the City series, Tall, Dark and Vampire .

If you’re looking for a sexy paranormal romance with a side of mystery and suspense you really should pick up Vampire Trouble and see what kinds of trouble Maya and Shane get into.

Lots of action and drama keeps readers on their toes in this riveting paranormal romance. Maya Robertson refuses to be controlled and rejects Sentry Shane Quesada’s protection and finds herself in over her head with an alpha werewolf. With war looming between the coven and the werewolf clan, will Maya learn to trust Shane with her life – and her heart?

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps the adrenaline pumping with suspense, action, drama and romance. The author invites the reader to join Maya and Shayne in their volatile romance and their mission to avert a war between the coven and the werewolf clan with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and make the reader feel as if they are part of the story. Spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as the war escalates and Maya learns secrets from her past that nobody is expecting except the bad guy and the characters are strong, enchanting, easily understood and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Maya and Shayne is certainly hot enough to burn up the pages and the sex scenes are hot and steamy, but the relationship has fireworks flying in every direction. The traumatic event that lead to Maya becoming a vampire causes Maya to act out and want to be in control at all time this of course clashes with Shane’s overprotective attitude. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the trouble that seems to follow Maya around and of course what she causes herself and they can’t help but empathize with her and her issues as well.

The author has created a fascinating and complex paranormal world with captivating and intriguing characters that draw the reader deeper into the stories. I found this book to be enjoyable and entertaining and the author threw in a few surprises to spice things up and Maya and Shayne’s blood-mating provides a few chuckles.

I was nervous about this book. I mean, Maya came across as young, impetuous, reckless, and a little bit whimpy. She constantly went out of her way break the rules for childish reasons. I get that her back story was awful, but she still came across as more of a 12 year old than a grown woman. So mating her with Shane, the older, stuffy, by-the-book, loyal to the presidium and all rules warrior? I had my doubts. But I thought it was brilliantly done in the end. I loved seeing Maya grow up and accept responsibility for her actions, and I really loved seeing Shane struggle to loosen up. He was one hot mess, and I do mean HOT. The author gave Maya more than just a pretty face and a heart-breaking back story. She gave her the ability to stand up for herself and those she loves.

And in the end, I still think Maya is a bit more girly than warrior, but that's OK too. She can kick some butt when it needs kicking. :) Now I can't wait to read the next book.

I really enjoyed the world building here! I haven't read the first book in the series, which I don't think left me too far behind in anything other than that couple's story, but I was pretty intrigued right off the bat! This was a great story that had interesting characters, a smooth flow, a great twisty plot, and some really hot sex! Maya and Shane had sexual tension that was palpable and when they go together it exploded! I liked how Ms. Humphreys reeled the reader in and kept me wondering what was gonna happen next the whole time. I was pretty glued to my kindle for the entire day just so I could get the next juicy tidbit. I now must read the first book! :)

Vampire Trouble (Dead in the City, #2) by Sara Humphreys
Sara Humphreys

Welcome to The Coven, a daring, seductive and provocative nightclub in NYC with scantily dressed waitress and bartender! Its clientele is hot, young, sexy and sometimes has FANGS!

Shane Quesada is a strong, decisive, controlled and rule following 400 year old Vampire. He has only 2 consists in his life, he is a Vampire Elite Sentry and he lives in totally loneliness, both by choice. Selena made him, used him and left him, so now he keeps everyone at a distance for fear of being hurt again. Shane spends each night patrolling and protecting NYC from evil for the Presidium (Vampire HQ) and the new Vampire Czars, Olivia Hollingsworth and Doug Paxton.

Maya Robertson is a reckless, leaps and never looks, troublemaking and "I hate rules" Vampire. Olivia found her raped, beaten and dying in an alley 5 years ago and turned her. Maya's memory begins at the time of her attack, so she feels unwanted and unloved since no one is or was looking for her. She has 2 constants from her past, an image of loving old woman and a mysterious emerald necklace. Now 24/7, she works, lives and now suffocating at The Coven and she is ready to break a lot of the new rules, like nibbling of the male human clientele.

Since nibbling on humans is now against Czars' rules for the upcoming Supernatural Summit, Maya is stuck with a pain in the a$$, tight wad and drill sergeant Shade and she wants his yummy, tight and hot bod. Shade is stuck with a vampire who loves to wear next to nothing, flirts with every male human and then nibble on them and he wants to strip, kiss, caress and have her awe inspiring body against a wall, building and his bed.

At her new job, Maya and Shane clash over everything, her nibbling, his controlling and she calls him Old and he calls her Youngling! Maya bites more than she can chew with a royal werewolf and his pack and the shaking Vampire and Werewolf truce is threatened. Now Shane and Maya must flee to Louisiana to hopefully keep the peace, teach Maya how to fight and protect her self and try and stay out each pants. With the training comes trust between them, clothes go a flying, cream-in-your-jeans passion erupts and these 2 light up New Orleans with sexual chemistry! Can Shane accept a passionate and troublemaking Maya? Will Maya's mysterious past bite them both in the a$$? Why does the royal werewolf want Maya so badly? Can their love conquer all and save the Vampire and Werewolf truce?

This my second book of the Dead in the City series and I must say that Ms. Humphreys' has a hilarious, twisted, fire extinguishers worthy and slightly sleazy mind. Maya feels like the dumpster at her rape attack, TRASH! She had to understand her demons and then roundhouse kick them to the curb. Maya is one of my favorite heroines, a kick a$$ and take no names one. Shane is a strong and silent type hero who was deeply scarred heart and soul from abandonment and will do anything to be it from happening again. Ms. Humphreys made Maya and Shane face, learn, understand and then conquer their flaws and fears. Now let's chat about the sex because, hello, it is a ROMANCE! Ms. Humphreys and passion are like light fluid and a lighter, it's combustible and needs to come with a "WARNING" label! Why do you ask, because my Kindle smoked and sparks shot out and gave me an ugly eyebrow wax! The cast of kooky and unique characters and the amazing humor made this book an even better read! I must give Ms. Humphreys my top score of 5 fingers up and 10 toes and I am throwing in my furry grandbaby's singed paw!

NetGalley ARC given for my honest review.

Maya Robertson has been a vampire of only five years. She is a young vamp by immortal standards and like any other youngster, she has a problem keeping herself out of trouble. She does exactly what she is told not to do, she gets angry when she is told to behave by her maker and she likes to play with her food.

On the night of her turning, she was raped, beaten and left for dead in an alley. Since Olivia turned her, she has been plagued with nightmares of the night of her death. The constant feeling of powerlessness makes her seek out some control of her life. She often feeds from the type of men who would take advantage of a weaker female and then she toys with them. She is not happy when Olivia gives an order that they are not to hunt for awhile. Werewolves have come to town unannounced and uninvited and that can only mean trouble.

Of course, the first thing Maya wants to do is get a closer look at these werewolves. When she is almost attacked by one, it is 400-year-old Sentry, Shane Quesada, who steps in to take Maya by the hand to help the baby vampire grow up.

He knows that Maya’s best defense against the dreams is to fight off her attacker in her dreamscape, and in reality, to be able to fight off the werewolves who are now seeking her out. He takes Maya away to train her in self-defense and weapons. He know that once Maya feels confident enough that she can take care of herself, she will finally be able to move beyond the past which still haunts her.

THOUGHTS:
This is an enjoyable series and a quick read for anyone who likes paranormal romance. Understandably, Maya has issues with men when the story begins. We know from the first book that Maya likes to glamour and play with the human men she feeds from. We learn in the beginning of this story exactly why she does it. Still you do want to shake Maya in the beginning because she makes emotionally motivated decisions without thought. She is told to stay away from the werewolves, so of course she takes a new job at a club where they are hanging out. She is told not to trust them and to stay away from them, so of course she agrees to go to their hotel suite alone with the pack. *shake, shake, shake*

I liked Shane a lot until he starts to have the “I’m getting too obsessed with Maya to do my job” talk with himself, just after Maya starts to trust him, and we see her start to mature. Then it is our turn to start shaking Shane for being stupid.

This is the second story of the series and brings the second pair of Bloodmates to the series. The supernatural world is already having a summit to discuss Olivia and Doug who are the first Bloodmates in forever. The supe world is concerned about the fact that they can walk in the daylight, and have also created a child. Tensions are high as they await the birth of Olivia’s child, and with the supernatural world up in arms about what their bond could mean to the future of the supernatural world, a second pair is going to ratchet that concern way up.

Overall it was an enjoyable story and a good addition to the Dead in the City series.

Who couldn't use a little Vampire Trouble? If you love a good urban fantasy, Vampire Trouble is the perfect read for you.

Maya Robertson is a newly turned vampire, still reeling from the emotional scars of a vicious rape, she delights in the power of feeding. Impulsive and rash, she jumps at the chance to work at another bar that will be serving werewolves.

Shane Quesada is drawn to Maya like nothing he's ever experienced. He quickly discovers his connection to Maya might even be magical. When Maya takes a job at a strip bar, he pushes to be assigned as her bodyguard. But when the werewolves take an unhealthy interest in Maya, Shane and Maya accidentally start a new vampire/werewolf war.

This story contains wonderful world-building. A paranormal mirroring of our contemporary world, Humphreys sucks us into this fabulous story of these supernatural creatures.

Although I missed the first book in this series, it is sure to be a series I will follow. I highly enjoyed this adventure and was riveted to the pages from start to finish. Don't miss Vampire Trouble.

I received this ARC copy of Vampire Trouble from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication on July 1, 2014.

This is the second book I have read from this author. The first book I read was about shifters... This one was a whole lot better! This was a fast paced story with little to no down time. Not much back and forth or pushing & pulling the whole way through with a voila ending of Oh I guess I do really like you.
This was a whole lot better!!

Vampires in their own district in New York, a young turn, who doesn't remember anything before her attack & left for dead story and the minutes before hand, and an older vampire who accidentally finds himself in her dream, now has to protect her and teach her how to fight against the pull of the werewolves who would start a war to possess her & they have no idea why.

Great premise with lots of action. Sweet & funny at times. Well worth the read. I would definitely read this entire series!! It reads like it could be a series, but I can't see where it is part of one.

I loved this one as much as the first. Sara Humphreys writes great characters. Maya is a youngling, turned only 5 years ago. Olivia saved her after she was brutally attacked and left for dead. She's a bit of a troublemaker. Shane is the serious Presidium sentry. Has been hanging around the Coven to stare at Maya. One night he gets pulled into one of Maya.s dreams. He hasn't dreamed in centuries, so he's pretty sure he knows what this means. Maya has some things to figure out. She doesn't even remember her human life and keeps reliving her last human night in her nightmares. Loved it and couldn't stop reading. Just so many good twists. This stands alone but I recommend reading the first. Olivia and Doug are a great couple and it will give you more background. We get to see them as the czars of New York in this one. They are great. I recommend this series to anyone who loves paranormal romance.

Overall Rating: 4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Shane is a centuries old vampire and the perfect solider. He is a sentry and one of the Presidiums’ finest. So how does he find himself suddenly pulled into the Dreamscape of a young vampire? Shane does not understand how he can be living Maya’s dreams of her last hours on earth as a human. The woman has the ability to make him forget everything, it almost seems like he is under a spell when he is around her. Shane knows that in his line of work being caught up in a woman could get you dusted.

A dream. He was walking in the dreamscape for the first time in almost four hundred years. A smile cracked his face and he ran both hands through his dark, thick hair while looking around in pure awe.

Maya is only five years old in vampire time and she is impulsive and reckless most of the time. She is tired of being the baby in her vampire family and wants some independence from her family. Maya decides to take a job at another bar working for a vampire that no one likes or trust. “Rat” offers the job to Maya when he comes to inform the Czars of New York of an unannounced visit from a werewolf prince.

Can’t go in the sun or risk turning dust. No more sterling silver jewelry because it burns like a bitch. No more feeding on customers from the club. Blah, blah, blah. Maya was getting sick and tired of other vampires telling her what to do atevery turn. It was starting to make her crazy.

Maya can’t deny her attraction to Shane and the pull between them becomes more intense when she discovers that she can only mind-speak with Shane. While watching over Maya as she hunts for a blood host, Shane and Maya find themselves unable to stop the need burning between them. He asks Maya to let him taste her blood and he is driven with the need to claim her as him own. Shane knows that he cannot claim her until she rids herself of the demons that are clawing at her soul.

He leaned in and drank greedily, and one word ran through his mind: bloodmate…Maya’s mind merged with his like a thunderbolt and Shane reared back, shocked by the sudden and combustible psychic connection.

Shane once again visits Maya’s dreamscape and helps her relax and escape from her nightmare. He tells her that he thinks that he is her bloodmate and really pisses Maya off when he tells her he forbids her to do something. She tells him that she will do whatever she wants to do and to get over it. All Maya can think of is Shane and how he makes her feel. When she is with him she feels safe, but this whole bloodmate them really freaks her out.

‘Daywalking was fine, but Maya couldn’t quite get a grip on the whole bonded-for-eternity concept. In fact, the mere idea of it was terrifying.

Maya is kidnapped by the visiting werewolf prince and when Shane recuses her the prince declares war. They are forced to leave the city until things can be settled and the peace treaty saved. Shane and Maya do not know that the prince wants Maya for a special reason and he will stop at nothing to capture her. Will Shane be able to keep Maya safe? Why does the werewolf prince want Maya? Why can’t Maya remember anything about her human existence?

Hero –Shane Quesada: 4 stars
Heroine –Maya Robertson: 4 stars
Steam: 4 stars
Plot: 4 stars
Cliffhanger: No

Would I recommend this book: Yes! If you want to read a book that looks at the paranormal world in a totally unexpected and exciting way, this book is for you. It has a lot of action, passion and really hot sex. Oh and don’t forget a vampire baby, and vampires that can day walk!

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I love this author and her vivid storytelling and have already enjoyed her Amoveo Legend series. Cannot wait too read another of her books in the Dead in City series.

“I’m rash, impulsive and occasionally childish”
Vampire Trouble Book #2 (Dead in the City) Sara Humphreys
I totally fell in love with Sara Humphreys writing with the Amoveo Legend and try to read everything she’s written including under her alter ego Willow James.
Vampire Trouble is a continuation of her Dead in the City series and is basically an up close and personal look at Maya Robertson and what makes her tick. Many readers looked at Maya as a spoiled brat (including myself) but we really didn’t know the back story. With Vampire Trouble you finally get a look at what makes Maya, Maya, and why she does/did the things she did. From her brutal rape, to near death to her turning by Olivia. From the start Maya was special (but she thought of herself as damaged). It took Maya 5 days to complete the transition where in most cases it’s a day or two.
We are introduced to Shane Quesada, a tall, dark, 4 Century old and sexy as hell warrior He was known as a cold, unemotional, one of the finest and most focused Sentries within the Presidium’s ranks. His territory for the past several months was New York and he would frequent (check in with) The Coven, Olivia’s and Doug’s business establishment. That is where he first saw the flirtatious Maya Robertson with her lavender/blue eyes. He was completely mesmerized by her. He fought his attraction tooth and nail. If he missed a night stopping by he was miserable. But let’s face it this hardened warrior was falling head over heels for her.
If you read the previous book Tall, Dark and Vampire you heard the expression ‘Bloodmate”. That is what Olivia and Doug were. After their matting both became daywalkers which was an anomaly in its self. Plus Olivia became pregnant. Shane suspected Maya may be his bloodmate from everything he’d been told, but he tried to stay emotionally detached. Yeah that didn’t happen. Maya threw him off his game. What totally unnerved Shane was he was actually afraid. He’s never feared anything in his 4 centuries of existence. But Maya changed all of that. He was more in tuned to Maya and protecting her and got what he thought was “sloppy in his duties”. I’ve never understood why men (in books) no matter how much in love they are, and can’t live without their mates feel if they leave, their mate will be better off. NOT! Never works out does it fellas.
You truly will fall right into Shane and Maya’s story and you won’t want to put it down until the very end. Trust me. There are some surprising revelations about Maya. her past, what her bloodline is. I totally freaked when I read this. I was so fist pumping. Read and you’ll see why. I love that Sara brings in some of the characters of her Amoveo Legends series, Like Lilly and Boris, and I so loved Lottie. I hope we see more of her in other stories. I’m curious to see what will happen with Sadie, Trixie, Dakota. I’m especially interested in Killian and his move to New York to expand his business. I wonder who he’s interested in. Maya thinks he’s coming to keep and eye on her, but somehow I’m doubting that. Then again I have no clue. I would absolutely love to see Shane and Maya get pregnant that would be so cool. This is all pure speculation and how I interpreted the ending. 5* Sara and keep up the fabulous writing.

“You are mine and I would die to protect you.” Oh My! After reading those words I wish I could have exchanged places with Maya Robertson, the female protagonist of this story. Altogether I can say she is one lucky vampire to have a hunk like Shane Quesdia professing those words to her.

We are introduced to these two in the Sara Humpreys latest novel Vampire Trouble, which is the second book in the Dead in the City series. Despite it being the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone.

This is my second encounter with this author’s work and I must say she knows how to keep her readers entertained. Being a voracious reader of the paranormal genre I have encountered several notions as it links to vampire species, but I have never come across one where vampires are able to procreate and walk in sunlight until I began this series. I found her take on vampires to be unique.

I thought the characters were entertaining and interesting. When I was first introduced to Maya, my first impression was that she was spoilled and selfish. However, as the story progresses, I came to realize that she was just a lost and scared soul. She had been through so much prior to her being turned and she had recollection of her past, beyond the point when she was turned. She believed that she was damaged and that she did not deserve to be loved. She had ho idea of how special she is.

I liked how Shane was able to see Maya for the exceptional individual that she is. He refused to allow her to blame herself for the tragedy that had taken place before her turning. He has been drawn to Maya from the first moment he laid eyes on her. He had met her while carrying out his duties as a sentry for the Presidium. He is a 400 year old vampire who is used to being alone. He was thought to be cold and unemotional. However, all this was about to change when he discovered that Maya was to be his bloodmate.

It was great to see Maya finally maturing and becoming more responsible and taking control of her life.

The supporting characters added to the excitement of the story. The werewolves had a peace with the vampires for some time, but one particular werewolf wanted to put and end to the peace treaty. He wanted power and he was of the belief that Maya was the key to him overthrowing his father and taking complete control. However, Shane was not going to allow him to try and hurt Maya. What follows is a story filled with action and suspense. The love scenes were hot which puts this book in the category of being suitable for readers 18 and over.

Vampire Trouble is a story of love, healing, forgiveness and believing in one’s ability to overcome the circumstances of their past. This is an enjoyable read and I can’t wait to see what next Ms. Humphreys has in store for her readers.

This is the second book in the Dead in the City series and those who read Tall Dark and Vampire will be pleased to find out that Maya and Shane step up and take centre stage in this book. Those readers who have previously enjoyed stories set in the authors Amoveo shifter world will be thrilled that it's expanded here and looks set to just keep upping the ante! Prepare to be both enthralled and entertained as Ms Humphrey brings her vampires to life!
Maya has only been a vampire for a short time but has already managed to get quite a reputation for herself as someone who likes to flaunt the rules and take chances but Maya is having a hard time reconciling herself with past events. Her memory of her human life is completely gone and all she does have is flashbacks and nightmares about her brutal attack before being turned into a vampire . Needing to gain some control over her life she takes a job that unfortunately puts her in the path of visiting werewolves and there's something brewing that smells an awful lot like trouble! Luckily Shane has set his sights firmly on protecting Maya but in order to do just that he will have to gain her trust and Maya doesn't trust any man! Luckily Shane is prepared to fight for what he wants and what he wants is Maya! In order to save Maya though from the werewolves Shane and Maya will need to uncover the truth about her past and just why the wolves are out for her blood!
This engaging couple are such fun to read about as they slowly learn to trust each other. The passion between them almost sets the page on fire and I loved the uber protective Shane although I have to admit that maybe just maybe he's a little over enthusiastic at times. Maya has serious trust issues which given her attack are understandable but she really does like to push peoples buttons and this book is clearly aptly named! Maya is trouble but she's not unkind just damaged. Her journey to uncover her past is an emotional one but luckily she has the experienced warrior Shane by her side.
Fans of the Amoveo Legend series will surely be delighted with this expansion of that world and indeed there just might be a cameo in this particular book! The world building by this author is utterly delightful and it's chock full of fascinating characters. Ms Humphrey has managed to make the bratty Maya into a heroine that's likeable with this story and yet again has given her readers a fast paced action packed story full of twists and turns that offer surprises. This authors work is so easy to read and just flows so well. Another great book and I cannot wait to see what she dreams up next! Oh and I love that cover!

Quick Review

Rating~ 3 Stars

Shane Quesada and Maya who we meet both in the last book seem interesting characters especially Shane so I was looking forward to their story since they are completely opposite in their demeanor. While Maya is not the spoiled/ childish brat we think she is from the last book she does some questionable behavior and makes stupid choices which was annoyed me and it took me days to finish the book. Eventually I got passed it. This book is low on angst though which a plus because now a days that is hard to find.

Minor quibble: Apart from Maya's behavior I expected a bit more of why she did not remember her human life, .

I was really excited before this book came out and though i liked it, I didn't like it as much as I'd hope I would (hate when that happens)

Nevertheless I will read the next book in the series which is about the DJ, Sabine and her werewolf prince Killian Vampires Never Cry Wolf because we see some sparks and some animosity there which I do like to read.

Vampire Trouble is the second book for Dead In The City series. I must say this. I really enjoyed Maya Robertson and Shane Quesada journey to finding true love and peace. you see Maya is a five year old vampire who has a way for starting trouble or finding it. Shane is a four-century old vampire sentry who has a thing for this little trouble maker. Maya has no knowledge of who she is or where she comes from. When Maya goes to work at the Dollhouse things go from bad to earth shattering crazy in one night. When Shane and Maya are forced to leave town, that is when Maya starts to learn the truth about her past and the meaning of the necklace she wears around her neck. Now Shane has his own issues, he has to learn that even the cards have something planed for him. With so much at stake can Shane keep this little hellcat safe and risk his heart after 4oo years of living life on his own terms. Will Maya learn that the cards have something planed for her too or will she keep her childish ways and lose her true destiny. Now I have to say this, read this series and enjoy what the dead and super natural are up to in New York City.

If you’ve read Sara Humphreys, then I’m sure you appreciate her smooth, fluent style that has readers turning pages faster than they even comprehend.

The dialogue is flowing and intelligent; with a diversity of characters in a realm that provides passion, humour, intrigue and danger.

We first met Maya; the beautiful, blond bartender in Tall, Dark and Vampire, and she is often referred to as youngling or baby Vamp, due to her recently turned status; but known best for her adversity to conform and follow rules, Maya’s reputation is one of a good time girl with a rebellious streak a mile wide.

In VAMPIRE TROUBLE (which I might add is aptly named) a recalcitrant Maya will take readers on a journey of mystery and menace, through sorrow and heartache; but as always, with Maya being Maya, trouble is never far behind.

Ms Humphreys second book in the Dead In The City series is as captivating as book one and set to be a HUGE HIT!!!

Hands down winner. I loved how well Shane and Maya worked together instead of fighting off their feelings for one another. Don't get me wrong; in the beginning Maya was irresponsible and didn't give much thought of the consequences for her actions and poor decisions would be; but that didn't drag out...thank god! Both she and Shane accepted the bloodmate thing pretty well, better then I thought they would. This was a story of building trust, coming to terms with what Maya is and embracing it and moving forward.
The Weres are interested in Maya's necklace, at least Horace is and he'll stop at nothing to get his hands on it, including killing and kidnapping.
This is definitely a great read.
Highly Recommend it!!!

I <3 this series. It's full of twists and turns, love, growth, loyalty, family, characters from her other series dropping in, supporting each other :-). Sara is rapidly gaining as one of my favorite authors.

Maya, bartender and young vampire is a rebel and a lost girl that Olivia rescued. I adore rescue stories probably because my family is rescuers at heart. Shane is a 400 year old Sentry, has seen it all and can't figure out why he has to visit with Maya every night. When Maya get's in trouble once again Shane volunteers to help her learn to fight and be able to "rescue" herself. Along the way they realize Olivia and Doug aren't the only ones to find their "Blood-mate".

Maya started out immature and annoying and while she eventually grew out of it, it did take awhile. Shane is a stick in the mud alpha who loses any semblance of control whenever Maya is around-which kept things quite lively. An interesting plot twist with the wolf clan kept the pace going in between relationship issues with Shane and Maya. This is a solid entry and a fun twist to vampire PNR stories.

Another 4 star book by Sara Humphreys. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was very entertained by it. The characters were amazing. I love that the characters from the first book in this series were also in this one even though this wasn't their story. This is Maya's story and it's amazing. Of course there's a HEA ending to the love story but everything that happens in between makes up the meat of the book. What a feast it was!

Sara Humphreys delivers another page turner with this fantastic sequel!

The Dead in the City series continues with VAMPIRE TROUBLE which features the sexy, brooding vampire sentry Shane Quesada and the feisty baby vamp Maya Robertson. Shane is a centuries old vampire who prefers immersing himself in his job as sentry for the vampire Czars of NYC, Olivia and Doug. His love life is non-existent and he’s given up all hope of finding his true mate until he sets eyes on the young and rebellious Maya. Shane’s instantly driven by a need to be her protector, but that need becomes stronger when Maya gets herself mixed up with a werewolf Alpha that has serious consequences. When her coven is forced to go to war with the werewolves in their city, Maya has no choice but to trust Shane and take the handsome vampire up on his offer of protection. With the looming threat of war, Maya and Shane must leave town and head to Louisiana, where things between the two get just as hot as the weather down in New Orleans.

I absolutely love Sara Humphreys NYC vamps! In my eyes they’re the perfect mix of dark and romantic while still keeping true to some of the original vampire myths I’ve grown up on. One of my favorite elements to this series is the whole “destined mates” angle which I’ve seen mostly in the werewolf genre, but feel Sara seamlessly ties this into the story line without overdoing it. Finding your bloodmate also comes with some supernatural perks that are unique to each couple (i.e. day walking and telepathy with their mate) which I find fascinating. Sometimes the mating factor makes for an insta-romance but that’s not the case with the couples in this series, most of the pairings are unexpected and the relationships have a few hurdles to overcome before the happy ending, which is how I like it.

From the moment Maya and Shane met, I knew their story would be entertaining and sweet. Shane Quesada starts off as your typical alpha male soldier, he’s old, stubborn, guarded and loyal to his vampire coven. When he unexpectedly finds himself in a dream state reliving Maya’s last moments as a human one night, Shane knows there’s more than meets the eye to the snarky bartender and soon starts believing she might just be his bloodmate. When Shane reveals all of this to Maya she freaks out and refuses to believe she’s to spend eternity with the ancient overprotective vampire, so she does what she does best, rebels, getting herself into trouble with some dangerous weres.

The relationship between Maya and Shane isn’t all rainbows and roses but that’s what makes these two so endearing. You have the emotionally unavailable Shane and the independent, flirty Maya who has experienced some trauma in her old life but refuses to let anyone tell her what to do in her immortal life. As the book progresses we learn Maya was a victim of a brutal sexual assault that left her dead and ultimately led to her turning. I’m not a huge fan of this kind of violence in my books, but I think the author handles this topic in a manner that’s not graphic and traumatizing to the reader.

Both Maya and Shane are equally as stubborn but experience a sense of growth when they’re together that probably would not have occurred otherwise. I really fell in love with Shane’s character when he learns of Maya’s past and tries to comfort her and overcome her fear. Their flirty banter is fun to watch, but it was the tender moments between Shane and Maya that solidified their romance for me, it felt organic. As for the smexy factor, when it happens it’s off the charts HOT…Maya and Shane are perfect together and I couldn’t get enough of them!

VAMPIRE TROUBLE delivers a page turning read with non-stop action, romance and a fair share of twists and turns with a few sweet surprises! While this book focuses mostly on Maya and Shane’s story, we get to revisit some familiar faces from Tall, Dark, and Vampire, see what’s happened with them since their story and meet some new faces, including the werewolves. I know I shouldn’t have favorites within the series, but I might have enjoyed Shane and Maya’s book a little more because of the constant suspense and their impromptu road trip down South. I have a hint of who the next couple will be and can’t wait to see what Ms. Humphreys has in store for said vamp and werewolf, I’m a sucker for a forbidden romance! I’d highly recommend this series to vampire lovers (like myself) or Paranormal Romance junkies, you won’t be disappointed with this refreshing new world and the NYC vamps.

Vampire Trouble is the second book to Sara Humphreys Dead in the City series and it was full of action, romance, and mystery. Be prepared for a page turner while reading Vampire Trouble.

Imagine sitting in a line for a couple of hours waiting to go into a signing event (Book Bash) and wanting something to do in the mean time to make the time pass. You ponder if you should just wait to see if your daughter will strike up a conversation with you, but your daughter is in her own world with her iPod playing MineCraft. Just then you realize, I remembered to pack my Kindle in my bag and there is this one book I have been dying to read, but college has made you put it on the back burner. Yup…now was the time to finish it. About 15 minutes before the line started going in for the signing, I managed to finish Vampire Trouble. =) Here’s hoping I didn’t freak out any of the fellow readers around me once I finished the book though. I tend to get over-excited over the ending because I just devoted time with these characters throughout the book, and I was excited to read their HEA. =) Sara didn’t make it easy for them, but she did a darn good job on making the ending PERFECT for Shane and Maya.

Sara Humphreys Vampire Trouble is one book that kept me on the edge of my seat thanks to the characters, Maya and Shane, but the secondary characters as well. I remembered meeting Maya in the first book and was anxious to read about her in Vampire Trouble. Here is when I got to read all about Maya’s past and how she really came to be who she is. She is the rebel of the bunch, but I learned why she was a rebel. I also learned how tough she could be when she needed to be. After reading Vampire Trouble, she has became a favorite female character in the Dead in the City series due to her personality and how she handles Shane. =) (She handled Shane very well) Oh…and let’s not forget the sexy four-century old sentry who won me over in Vampire Trouble. Gosh darn it…can Shane be real! He knows how to do his job as a sentry, but he also know how to romance Maya. *sigh* (He is complete opposite of Doug from Tall, Dark, and Vampire, and the way Sara wrote him…he was very swoon worthy.)

I won’t go into what Vampire Trouble is all about because I definitely don’t want to spoil it for anyone. I will say this, if you haven’t read the first book, you need to and then immediately read this book. You don’t want to miss out on the previous characters that show up in this book. Sara gives us details on what is going on with Olivia and Doug in Vampire Trouble. Sara even throws in additional characters to help Shane and Maya in their dilemma they are dealing with. I LOVED Lottie! She had the best attitude with what was happening, and she made the story really funny at times.

Vampire Trouble is full of humor, action, romance, heartache, and suspense. Sara does an amazing job on keeping a reader turning pages to her stories and Vampire Trouble definitely kept me from going insane in the intense heat of Orlando, FL, while waiting in line.

I give this book 5 full moons and highly recommend it to paranormal romance readers out there.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher (via Netgalley) in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, I admit it, Sara Humphreys could make rocks and fallen trees sexy.. I am the first to say I don't enjoy the "traditional" Vampire stories. You know with sires and covens, makers and such. But a good author can destroy all preconceptions. Vampire Trouble is book two in her Dead in the City ( also known as Vampires in NYC) Series. In book one, Tall, Dark and Vampire, I tumbled into love and in book two, Vampire Trouble, I just kept falling.

Olivia and Doug have become co-czars of New York. Their bloodmating has caused some concern in the supernatural world. The ability to Daywalk is bad enough but Olivia's pregnancy has everyone wondering. The last thing she needs is a pack of rogue werewolves wandering around New York while the leaders of the Supernatural world are all in a conclave in Europe assessing her situation. Oh and a wayward prodigy who needs to break out for a while.

Maya is a young Vampire, she was turned just five years ago, she was brutally assaulted and almost died before Olivia was able to turn her. While she is grateful to be alive, so to speak, she keeps reliving her assault in her nightmares. Consequently she hunts only the type of man who destroyed her. Teasing them, promising them more, before she feeds, rearranges their memories and then moves on. It's about the control. But even that isn't enough anymore..She is feeling hemmed in and needs a reprieve from the coven. Accepting a bartending job at the strip joint of a rather skeavy vampire, of course he is he owns a strip joint. Everything might be ok except she seems to have acquired a bodyguard and an admirer. The bodyguard is the oh so sexy Shane, a guard for the czars. And the admirer is the second son of the leader of the werewolves. Of course nothing is ever what it seems.

Shane Quesada is over four centuries old and lives for his duty and honor but lately Olivia's pretty little bartender has garnered his attention. When he is pulled into her dreamscape Shane realizes that it is something more than mere attraction and when he is allowed that first taste, he realizes that she is his bloodmate.. confused that he should have a bloidmate and worried about how it will affect his duty, Shane is given a temporary solution, become Maya's bodyguard. But when his protection of Maya causes what could be an inner species event, everything goes crazy.

This book was jammed packed..

Maya has no memory of her past and her meeting with the werewolves causes some sort of reaction inside her. She has absolutely no idea why she has become a target. What do they want from her?
Then of course us the oh so sexy Shane.. how can she ever accept such a warrior in her life? Except that even Maya sees that with her he is a gentle giant.
What can Maya and Shane accomplish if they are excited from New York?
We also get to see Boris and Lillian from the Amoveo world. We meet the sexy werewolf Julian, we hear about Asmodeous and various and assorted supernatural are mentioned. It seems th a Ms. Humphreys is starting to bring her worlds together.

I can't wait to see what she has coming up next!

This was a I can't put this book down experience..So yeah I recommend it! For Me this was one if those rare Five Plus Star review

Vampire Trouble Sara Humphreys

Heritage holds the vital segments of abundantly rich threads that makes us the wonderful creatures roaming the earth. Once understood these energies and wisdom embedded in our heritage is mind-bending. This prolific sense is an undercurrent that vibrates throughout Sara Humphreys Vampire Trouble.

Again, Sara Humphreys fantastic, exhilarating writing style and storytelling talents shattered the pages of my e-reader into vibrant colors of the rainbow as it sparkles and hypnotized me with blazing action in this wonderfully engrossing read. Vampire Trouble takes the reader to the end of the rainbow, stars and beyond to a caldron of dark, magical gold. The gift of manifesting dreams and various energies of her imagination with spellbinding words is incredible and I can depend on Ms. Humphreys to deliver a book that I cannot put down from beginning to the last page. She always makes me impatient for the next book. Ms. Humphrey has hit another 5 star home run!!

In Vampire Trouble the key characters, along with the other critical story elements are portrayed with such style and intensity, readers can not resist connecting with the characters personas and its somewhat dark New York setting.

Maya Roberston is of course voluptuous, stunning, young, flirtatious with a hint of vulnerabilities that makes her association with Shane Quesada necessary. Maya possess the qualities that make men feel that heaven is centered within her essences. Through her dreams she drags Shane into her being.

Shane Quesada, a hunk of steel and power, four hundred year old vampire and a mighty soldier can nibble on my neck whenever. :-) Commanding, control and strength defines who Shane is and has been for centuries. However, the soft spot is his inability to stop thinking about Maya. Maya teases and awakens a dominant need Shane harbored for hundreds of years. Shane can't help himself from wanting the young vampire and the possibilities of them together doing a little something, something. He must have a glimpse of Maya daily no matter how hard he tries to resist the cravings. Shane is Maya's protector.

Fast moving realistic dialogue in Vampire Trouble is intellectually invigorating, humorous, and easily transports the reader into the narrative where danger and intrigue is always present in the darkness of New York.

As a werewolf shape-shifter lover I enjoyed how Ms. Humphreys incorporated this aspect into the suspense and action of the Vampire Trouble.

Vampire Trouble is the second in a series; how I missed the first book escapes me but Ms. Humphreys skillfully developed writing and storyline did not leave me flapping in the dark without a glimmer of light to connect the dots in this segment.

Yes, but of course, I am going to read the first book Tall, Dark and Vampire while I impatiently wait for the next installment.

Maya Robertson is what is known as a youngling, having only been turned by her maker Olivia Hollingsworth several years ago. She has a tendency of speaking and acting without much thought and she feels as if all the rules of being a vampire are getting to her. On the other hand, Shane Quesada has been a vampire for over four centuries and has seen and experienced a great deal as a sentry of the Presidium, the vampire government. He's always put his duty first, never expecting to feel the pull when he first encounters the headstrong and wayward youngling and now she's captured his attention.

Maya takes the opportunity to work somewhere outside of The Coven, the club owned by Olivia, in order to get some breathing space. Shane volunteers and is later tasked by Olivia to keep an eye out for Maya. To show Shane that she doesn't need his protection or approval, she goes off with a werewolf prince only to discover that she's bitten off more than she can chew. When the werewolf prince and his pack threaten to start a war with the coven, Maya and Shane are forced to go into hiding in the home of Olivia's gypsy friend in Louisiana. There, things begin to develop between the old man and the baby vamp.

Maya's past has always been shrouded in darkness, with her fellow vampires unavailable to glimpse much from her blood memories other than what happened to her right before she was turned. But with Shane by her side, they will try to rediscover the life she led before she became a vampire and figure out how to deal with their being bloodmates. When the truth behind Maya's past comes to light, the ramifications become all too clear, putting Maya at even greater risk as is the precarious treaty between the werewolves and the vampires. Will Shane be able to protect Maya or will his lack of focus bring her harm?

Two for two, bookaholics! With each book I read in the Dead in the City series by Sara Humphreys, the more I fall in love with the characters and the stories. Vampire Trouble turns the spotlight on Maya Robertson and Shane Quesada, two characters introduced in the first book but both of whom were quite memorable. They seemed like such opposites, not only because Shane's been a vampire for four hundred years and Maya just a handful, but because their personalities appeared to be different. I liked that they had to work at their relationship and not simply accept the inevitability of their being bloodmates.

With a great combination of paranormal romance and action thriller, both the story and characters were well-developed and kept me engaged from start to finish. I love the world that Sara Humphreys has created and now that werewolves have entered the picture, it looks like things are going to be even more interesting! Reading Maya's transformation from rebellious young vampire to brave bloodmate was a joy and I highly recommend the two currently available books. Vampire Trouble gets five stars! ♥

About the book: Release Date July 1, 2014

Shane Quesada, a four-century old vampire sentry, is known for cold, unemotional precision when hunting rogue vampires.

Maya Robertson is a youngling vampire who will not be controlled—and to prove it, she rejects Shane’s protection—only to find herself in over her head with an alpha werewolf.

Soon, a war between the coven and the werewolf clan ignites, and Maya and Shane flee to Louisiana, where their passion for each other grows—as does Maya’s power. When she finds herself at the center of the conflict, will she finally trust Shane with her life—and her heart?

REVIEW: VAMPIRE TROUBLE is the second instalment in Sara Humphreys’ contemporary, adult Dead in the City paranormal romance series that is a spinoff from her popular Amoveo Legend series. This is four hundred year old vampire Shane Quesada and youngling vampire Maya Robertson’s story. Maya was first introduced in book one Tall, Dark and Vampire. Because of the Amoveo Legend crossover, many of the secondary characters will be familiar to readers of Sara’s other series.

The focus of the storyline is on Shane and Maya’s building relationship as well as the slowly evolving war between the werewolves and the New York Coven. One werewolf in particular has targeted Maya for extermination and Shane has been ordered to guard Maya with his life. Finding themselves secluded in Louisiana, Maya will discover that she is much more than a youngling vampire and the wolves are determined to end her life. A gypsy woman will begin to uncover the truth about Maya’s past and it is a past that has followed her to the Bayou.

The relationship between Shane and Maya is tepid and volatile. Shane has been attracted to Maya in a way that can only be explained through DNA but Maya’s attitude, anxiety and acidic personality are something that only a bloodmate would find appealing. As the storyline builds, so too does the relationship that will find our couple fighting for their lives as well as their love. The sex is sensual, passionate and arousing but Shane’s love for Maya may not be enough to keep our couple safe or together.

The world building continues from book one with the inclusion of many of the previous storyline characters including the New York Coven czars Doug and Olivia and a number of the Amoveo Legend vampires, shifters and supernatural powers. Sara does an amazing job crossing over and the blending between the two series with the familiarity of many names, places and powers.

VAMPIRE TROUBLE is a seductive storyline where two vampires will find love and a happily ever after. Sara Humphreys writes an intelligent, inventive and spirited series where the impossible seems possible and the improbable has already began.

What an exciting book! Vampire Trouble, by Sara Humphreys is the 2nd book in the Dead in the City Series. I did not read the first book in the series, but at no point did I feel as though I missed anything important by starting with the second book instead of the first. I do plan to go back and read the first book in the series, Tall, Dark, and Vampire.

Maya is a stubborn woman if I’ve ever read about one! I saw her as being cold and detached. I can understand her apprehension about getting close to anyone considering she can’t remember anything from before she was brutally raped, murdered, and subsequently turned into a vampire. Her nightmares have continued since she was reborn. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to have to relive the most awful moments of her life almost every time she goes to sleep!

Shane is a 400-year-old vampire that is super concerned with protecting Maya. He wants to protect her, but as I said earlier, she is stubborn. There were times where I felt he was being kind of overbearing and unreasonable. She declined his protection and in return ended up as the obsession of an alpha werewolf. Shane sounds super sexy, and not just because he is described as being a hottie. The fact that he is so willing to help Maya regardless of anything else says a lot about his character, which makes him a little sexier. There is a huge amount to sexual tension between Shane and Maya, so if you enjoy that sort of thing, you won’t be disappointed.

There is a war waiting to begin between Vampires and Werewolves and Maya finds herself right in the middle of everything. Vampire Trouble has plenty of plot twists and turns to keep the reader guessing through the whole book. I found some of the different sorts of characteristics that Humphrey’s introduced quite interesting and it gave her characters and her book a bit of something different.

There was a sweetness to Vampire Trouble that I haven’t seen in most of the books I have read lately. Shane is so dedicated to helping Maya get over her issues that it makes me wish more guys were like that. He actually starts to show up in her nightmares, and has figured out a way to help her overcome them.

I would recommend this book and series to anyone looking for a nice vampire story with romantic and mystery elements and is somewhat different from most traditional vampire stories.

;I recieved a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.,

Maya has only been a Vampire for 5 years. So she is still considered to be very young. Her maker and her mate run the Vampires in New York and own a club that Maya works at as a bartender. Maya is still having Nightmares about the night she was attacked then turned into a vampire. She only feeds on men that remind her of the man that brutally attacked her. She has been seeing Vampire Sentry Shane in the club every night for the past few months and she doesn't know why. Eventhough she loves her vampire family she is starting to feel smothered being around them all of the time, so she gets a job at a Vampire run strip club. Her first night on the job a Werewolf prince and some of his pack come in and that's when all hell starts to break loose.

Shane is drawn to Maya. He can't settle down if he does not see her at least once a day. Then he is somehow pulled into Maya's Nightmare and see's some of what had happened to her. It had been a long time until Shane had had a dream and by the time he realized what happened it was too late to help her. When he gets a taste of her blood he realizes she is his bloodmate and he realizes that no matter what he will help her in any situation. He definitely has her work cut out with her to protect her, help her learn how to defend herself and help her take back control of her life.

When it's all said and done it all comes down to choices. What choices will they make?

My Opinion: I absolutely loved it. I have not read any books by this author yet and I am excited to read more. My attention was captured right from the start and I couldn't put it down. I finished the book in a day. As Vampires are my favorite paranormals I never get tired of reading Vamp books and I thought this one was great. I have not read the first book in this series so this one can be read as a stand alone.. I am looking forward to reading more from this Author. I definitely recommend reading.
