Mini review:
I enjoyed this book - very interesting characterizations and conflict (quite a scandalous one, in fact). I especially liked Colin's devotion for Josie, and her very real conflict about choosing him - her faithful friend, companion, and the man she grows increasingly in love with. The philosophical musings in this book was nice too, as it added some depth to the characters and really questions just what love is.

Meh. I'm giving up at page 70. The guy has been nice so far, which is more than I can say for a lot of guys in historical romances. So I'm sure I could force myself to finish it. But I'm just bored. Colin loves Josie, but Josie is engaged to his friend. Josie's sister Edwina is very pretty, but her personality turns a lot guys off. Ok. My issue is that in 70 pages nothing has really happened except for those points being stated over and over and over and over and over....

Boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, but boy's best friend gets there first. Yes poor Colin, his friend Josie grew up, he started falling for her but his best friend Nicholas won her.

Colin is still in love with her, but he is a good friend, so he becomes a good friend and only that to her. And again I found myself reading about a nerdy hero who loved history (yay! my kind of guy.)

Josie was a whirlwind! At times I did not think they would suit that well, I thought her sister Edwina would fit him better. But, that's the thing, you never really know. And they were already best friends too, he had a calming effect on her.

And of course there is mischief going on. Josie tries to set Colin up with her sister, she even gives him a potion. There is a London season and these two slowly moving even closer. But there is that bog cloud, she is in love with someone else, or is she?

A fun mischievous book.

After a whirl-wind engagement, Josie Cardworthy is left to rusticate while her fiance heads off to war. Luckily, she has been left with the serious, sensible, reliable Colin Pearce, the Earl of Ivorwood, her fiancé's best friend and her childhood neighbour. Colin has been her solid companion for years and she decides its time she find him a suitable wife. It never quite occurred to her that he'd look to her as an option.
The back and forth between these two, who both struggle with the idea of betraying their long absent friend and fiance, even after grave loss, is sweet. I enjoyed seeing Colin's point of view and learning of their combined past as he struggled to maintain an honourable distance.
Sweet and suspenseful in parts, with an ultimately satisfying ending

This is my favorite of the three Emily Greenwood novels I've read. This one was good enough that I might consider reading something else by her again.

Weirdly I enjoyed this. It had the right amount of frenemies and quips to keep it interesting.

Regency romance author Emily Greenwood makes her debut with a witty series with young ladies who discover a little mischief can make a big difference!

Third in the series, each story stands alone.
A Little Night Mischief
Gentlemen Prefer Mischief
Mischief by Moonlight

About the Story: Colin Pearce, Earl of Ivorwood, loved his history books and spent hours in research for writing. He was also best friend to Nicholas Hargrave financed to Colin’s lovely, charming and slightly impulsive neighbor, Josephine Cardworthy.

Nicholas after knowing Josie for six weeks left to war leaving his fiancée in the care of his best friend. During the year Nicholas was away Colin had taken his responsibility seriously. He also found he enjoyed Josie’s companionship thus he found his way on the path between their homes more often than not. Even though he wished that Josie might look at him differently, he knew that he and she could not be anything but friends. But then it became near impossible to keep his hands off her. He was unable to control his feelings after that one night having tea with the family at Josie’s home. Colin was all about honor and control since he saw how out of control his parents were and how unhappy they were. No, his relationship had to be in control—just affection and friendship would be ample. That would make a marriage of comfort.

Josie was concerned about her sister, six years her elder. She wanted to make sure that Josie could find a good match for herself before Nicholas came back and they married. She decided that Colin might help her sister with that endeavor by having his aunt sponsor a season in London. She had even encouraged Edwina to consider Colin as a suitor, but Edwina flatly refused. In fact, Edwina had ingrained in her by her late father the only thing she had going for her was beauty. It’s true, Edwina had a sharp tongue with a nasty tone which kept most people from liking her. In her defense she pushed people away from her before they could push her away. All that was to change when she went to London.

Once Edwina and Josie got to London neither was ready for the changes that seemed to come over both of them. Colin continued to struggle to keep Josie at a distance. She enjoyed Colin’s friendship which made it difficult for her to understand why he was warm and personable with her one moment and cold the next. Colin was good at covering up how he felt so Josie didn’t understand why the different messages. Attending Josie and Edwina became increasingly difficult. He was undone the moment that Josie put it into her head to kiss him without thinking anything other than she wanted to.

My Thoughts: Sisters Josie and Edwina have the same problem although both sisters are very different in demeanor. They both think they know what’s best for them in marriage and yet do all to avoid what their heart is telling them.

This story was hilariously funny in points because of the way the characters reacted to situations and to each other. As Colin and Josie’s relationship changes after the death of Nicholas, both begin avoiding each other, but not at the same time. As one of them is interested in pursuing the relationship, the other isn’t. Then when the one who wasn’t interested becomes so, the first changes their mind. This type of situation goes back and forth as they get more and more frustrated with each other, and that much more involved.

Edwina comes to learn who she is and what she wants and doesn’t want while in London. She no longer believes what her father always told her so we experience the real Edwina.

Both women learn to lean on each other and use each other as confidant as the plot unfolds. They work together to help their mother kick an addiction no one knew she had.

The story unfolded well-paced with adventure and sorrow along the way. Emily Greenwood with her usual wit, creates an entertaining, delightful story. Whereas the plot was seemingly simple, it became more complex and the reader finds layers of stories within the story. Both Edwina and Josie have their stories. Their mother has her own. Even though the tone of the story is light-hearted, there are some serious emotions that are present and faced.

I enjoyed Emily Greenwood’s third book as I did the first. As far as history, there was little, but you felt that the story was taking place during the Regency period. If you enjoy Regency Romance with men trying to remain honorable and women who explore who they are and what they want in life, albeit rashly at times, this book is for you.

Moonlight, mischief and magic prevail in this tantalizing tale! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:

Colin Pearce, the Earl of Ivorwood, only has eyes for Josephine, but before he can act on his feelings, she meets his best friend, Nick. Six weeks later, Nick and Josephine are engaged. But Nick has to return to battle, so he asks Colin to watch over her, which proves difficult for him since Colin cannot get her out of his head. Although Colin figures distance will help him, this is virtually impossible due to his promise to his friend.

Josie is known for being impulsive. So it is not unusual when she chops off her long hair, although her new style is very becoming. Hearing that Nick will be home within a matter of weeks, Josephine panics, partially because of her shorn locks. Plus she really does not know Nick that well, but he told her he loved her and this is an emotion not usually exhibited by her family. Since the death of Josie’s father, her mother has gone into a decline and it looks as if her sister will be finagled into taking care of her. However, this is a fate that Josie does not want for her sister. Josie admires Colin, so she is thrilled when she gets the idea of pairing her sister with him. So she obtains a love potion from a local gypsy, but this matchmaking attempt backfires with amusing results.

When a twist of fate provides Colin with a second chance at winning the woman he loves, he pulls out all the stops, but can he convince her that they belong together?

The third novel in author Emily Greenwood’s REGENCY MISCHIEF series, MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT is a witty historical romance. I loved the chemistry between Josie and Colin as well as the twists and turns that this storyline takes on their way to happy-ever-after. This is actually two love stories in one as readers are also privy to Josie’s sister’s budding romance.

If you enjoy this story, which can be read as a standalone, I am sure you will also find the first two books, A LITTLE NIGHT MISCHIEF and GENTLEMEN PREFER MISCHIEF, absolutely delightful. For a tale of moonlight, mischief and magic in a Regency setting, be sure to pick up Emily Greenwood’s latest, enchanting novel, MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT!

Mischief by Moonlight is a delightfully sweet tale of two people that need a little nudge to in each other’s direction. Josie Cardworthy is engaged to Captain Nicholas Hargrave and has patently been waiting for him to return from the war so they can get married. It’s been well over a year and while Josie is planning her wedding she comes to the realization that once she weds she will leave her sister at home a spinster. So she comes up with a plan to have her sister marry her neighbor Colin Pearce, the Earl of Ivorwood. Colin is Josie’s neighbor and they have known each other for years, he was the one that introduced Josie to her fiancé.

Colin, Josie and her sister journey to London and hope to enjoy some of the delights the season has to offer. While Josie is in London she spends more and more time with Colin. They both start to realize they have feelings for one another or at least Josie does. Colin has known for quite a while how he has felt. Her sister meanwhile is having her own relationship troubles, she has always had an idea of the man she was to marry but she is finding out that appearances can be deceiving.

While in London Josie receives news that Nicholas was seriously injured and not expected to survive. This tragedy pushes her closer into Colin’s arms. As Colin spends more time with Josie he can’t deny what he feels for her any longer and makes his move. But what happens when Nicholas returns…can Colin and Josie have a happily ever after?

I really thought this was a sweet story. Josie is a sweet young woman who has her whole life planned out, but fate has other plans. After receiving devastating news about she becomes closer with Colin and starts to have feelings for him but is conflicted on her feelings for her fiancé. When she believes Nicholas is dead she acts on her feelings for Colin but things become even more muddled when Nicholas returns hale and whole.
Colin comes across a little stogy but as he spends more time with Josie he begins to open up and become livelier. In some ways you could say that they both needed each other as they brought different things to the relationship. Josie is wild and carefree while Colin is steady and strong.

MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT by Emily Greenwood is an exciting Regency Historical Romance. #3 in the "Regency Mischief" trilogy, but can be read as a stand alone. See,"A Little Night Mischief", and "Gentlemen Prefer Mischief".

This is a fun, light-hearted tale of love, misunderstandings, a love potion, a bit of mischief, and lots of passion and romance.

Follow, Colin Pearce, the Earl of Ivorwood and Josephine (Josie) Cardworthy with a side story of Josie's eldest sister, Edwina, and Josie's long-absent fiance, Captain Nicholas Hargrave, who has been off to war, as they navigate their passions, their feelings, and their desires.

Colin, has long dreamed of Josie, his neighbor and desired her as none other, but she is his best friend's fiancee,so hasn't acted upon his feelings until......a moon-lite night, a love potion, maybe, and bad news, oops....

Josie, is lonely, misses her fiancee, and wishes her beloved sister, Edwina, could find someone to love her....enter, a gypsy with a love potion....let the love begin!

With engaging characters, an interesting as well as intriguing storyline, Ms. Greenwood has created a story that is fun, light-hearted, but passionate, filled with mischief, honor, and the power of true love. A lovely story from beginning to end. I was truly cheering, Colin and Josie on to the very end. As well as her sister, and her love interest. I believe or hope, we find another story, that includes more of the secondary characters. Some of them where a hoot. I would love to see them get their HEA. Very entertaining! I would strongly recommend this title for those who enjoy passion, romance, a bit of mischief with their romance and a light-hearted but serious tale of love and romance. Well done, indeed! Received for an honest review from the publisher.

This is an honest review of an ARC from Netgalley:

This was a surprisingly enjoyable book, and has definitely made me want to read more from this author. The book did start out slow--although that was in due to my digital ARC having a weird format that did eventually correct itself about a third of the way through the book.

What kept me reading this book is that it wasn't what I expected. Colin is not your usual Regency hero--he's handsome, but not a rake, he's been in love with Josie for over a year, and is conflicted about his feelings for her--she's engaged to his best friend Nicholas, who's been off at war in Spain for the same amount of time. Josie has been sheltered with her family--her older sister, younger brothers, and their mother, who has literally done nothing but drink herself (via a special elixir) into a stupor over the death of her husband--whom is seemed that none of them were fond of in the first place. Josie thinks of Colin as a very good friend, and for a time even considers matchmaking him with her older sister Edwina. Josie's family is a bit of an outcast, for no other reason than it seems her parents just didn't like socializing with anyone, and so kept themselves and their children confined to the estate they lived on.

I really enjoyed the side romance between Edwina and Jack Whitby--he's a carpenter who Edwina meets. I was intrigued by Edwina, and wish she and Jack would have gotten their own book although they do get their own HEA.

This was a lighthearted read, and there are some humorous moments throughout the book that kept me smiling. There is just one sex scene, and very lightly and tastefully done, although there are plenty of steamy moments throughout the book. I am adding Emily Greenwood to my new favorite authors list and am looking forward to reading more from her.

From the beginning, there was a lot missing from Josie's life. I'm not saying she was alone. Quite the opposite. She was surrounded by family and a good friend, but there was this...longing that just seeped through my tablet screen, like she was simply existing instead of really living.

Colin was somewhere between love and loyalty. His affection for Josie was painfully obvious, as was the dilemma he was in: he couldn't tell her because she was engaged to his best friend Nicholas. Colin did his best to be a friend to Josie while Nicholas was off at war, but hiding his feelings for her became harder and harder to do the more time they spent together.

Trying to take her mind off her own problems, Josie turns her attention to her older sister, Edwina, and Colin. Her goal is to get them together. A fateful meeting with a gypsy gives Josie the means to accomplish just that: a love potion. And therein lies the mischief, because Josie's matchmaking attempt goes wrong with amusing results. But Colin's not meant for Edwina. His heart, mind, body, and soul belong to Josie. She just doesn't know it.

Then came news of Nicholas' death that added a twist I'd hoped was coming and was glad that it did. From this point on, Josie was more alive. She was more aware of herself, of the lack of emotion she felt after hearing about Nicholas, and of the emotions Colin evoked in her.

Colin and Josie's journey from friendship to lovers is filled with magic, moonlight, a little bit of madness, and a healthy dose of revelations and realizations. They found love in each others arms and a happy ending they rightfully deserve.

Colin Pearce, the Earl of Ivorwood is in love. He has been for the past year and half. The lady of his affection is his neighbor, Josie Cardworthy. They had grew up together, were great friends. But the night he realized his love, Colin’s best friend Captain Nicholas Hargrave had caught Josie’s eye. 3 months later, they are engaged. Nick was called to duty and later declared dead. What is a man like Colin to do, when he still is in love with Josie? Specially when Josie and her spinster sister Edwinia are sent to London for the Season. The story continues as the Season gets more intense with love interest for Edwinia and the jealous feelings Josie begins to develope for Colin. What happens when Nick returns unexpected? This book is a good read with twist and turns for each sister to find true love. The home life of Josie and Edwinia with their mother is laugh out loud funny. I found MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT to be a light, fun, humorous true romance.

There was enough cuteness and sweetness to keep me reading and I loved the subplots, but I thought the heroine was too flighty at times and took way too long to come clean with the truth about certain things. The sex was bad to meh. However, the author had the perfect justification for making the first one that way, so I'll go with it.

I just hope there will be a book forthcoming about a certain French Spy.

I actually wish that Edwina and Colin had gotten together. It seemed as if he was the only one that saw good in her, plus the fact that Josie had already thrown him over for his best friend. I knew they wouldn't end up together, but I really hoped that they had and a little dissapointed that they didn't. It seemed as if everyone was still vying for Josie. I'm a sucker for the underdog.

I really liked this book. She has 2 smart feisty sisters and the men they fall in love with are intelligent strong men that have good values. The mother is an interesting complication but the family loves her and helps her in the best way they can. Well written, I plan to read her other books as well.

I really liked the situation and the two leads but this book was like 3 smashed into 1. However, I really liked that sex the first time wasn't super duper awesome as it is in all other romance novels, gave a bit of realism. Should have focused more on the Heroine and Hero instead of jumping all over the place.
