Heller #6

Heller's Regret

Rate this book
Book 6 in the Heller series. There’s not much ordinary about Tilly Chalmers’ life as a security officer. Her latest assignments – two jobs involving children; protection of a valuable jewellery collection; and security at an unusual conference – provide plenty of adventures for her. But it’s her private life, including her complex relationship with her beautiful boss, Heller, causing her greatest personal challenges yet.

Waiting......waiting.......still waiting. Don't you just love an author that makes you CRAZY waiting for their books to be published?????

New Post.
Well....after reading the latest in the Hiller series, I am sadly disappointed. The sparkle and wit that made the other books in this series so entertaining was sadly lacking in Heller's Regret.

Okay, I just literally gobbled up the last six books in this series in about 6 days!
I LOVED the characters, writing, and story-lines in each and every one.

Throughout the series this is how I pictured Heller

 photo heller1.jpg

... and Tilly is the shit!
 photo tilly.jpg

If anything bad is going to happen, it would absolutely happen to Tilly.
She has been nick-named by the other people she works with at Heller Security as a 'trouble magnet'.

 photo whenyouthinkthingscantgetmorefuckedup.gif

In this story, I have to say that I'm SO PROUD of Tilly finally saying "No More"!
She's been kidnapped, beaten, almost raped (repeatedly), almost burned to death, forced off the road and almost killed (repeatedly), malnourished, drugged, and haunted.
.. and throughout all of this she has remained loyal to Heller.
She has professed her love for him, and knows he cares for her, but she still knows nothing about him, not even his real name.

The catalyst that finally makes Tilly start to reflect on who she is, and what she wants in life is when her father has a heart attack and dies. Danny, Sid, Clive, and Nik are all there for her, but Heller is no where to be found.
She loves him, but she doesn't trust him to guard her heart and keep her safe.

Tilly is such a beautiful, bright light that is slowly starting to distinguish because of all the trauma and situations she's been put through.
When Heller finally returns home after his last job, Tilly's heart has hardened towards Heller, and she can't be with him any more right now.

 photo lookatyouandnotbehurtbyyou.gif

This story ends with the reader wondering how the author will end this series with the next and final book in the series.

I personally have a 'wish list' on how I would like it to end.

Cannot wait to read the last installment in this series "Heller's Family"!

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS HELLER?

I'm going to make this review short and sweet, because I've got WAY too many books to be read and not enough TIME in the day!!!!

I don't know what it is about J D Nixon's books... but she has me completely addicted to her writing and her characters!!! I've been waiting for this 6th episode of Heller with bated breath, and she DELIVERS again... as expected.

In this book, Tilly finds herself once again dragged through all sorts of muck out of nothing but the kindness of her heart. She always seems to be trying to do the right thing and ends up in all kinds of trouble and looking like a dupe every time. And she never seems to get the credit when she get's things right. But what is becoming more and more apparent is that her physical and mental health finally take some serious hits, having her man and her colleagues very worried (for once).

Tilly also has to face some personal tragedy in her life in the midst of all this chaos... and the biggest question of all... WHERE THE FUCK IS HELLER???!!!!! Off doing his his little 'side jobs'...AGAIN and AGAIN.

It's quite obvious that he loves her... he's all BUT told her... but actions speak much louder than... sex? (can't say "words" because he hasn't said them to her yet). And Tilly is really starting to doubt his feelings for her, and his commitment to their future together. And my heart is breaking for them both... because it all seems to be falling apart.

“The woman I care for.”

UUUUUHHHHHHGGGGGG!!!!!!! YOU BASTARD!!!! JUST FUCKING SAY IT!!!!!!!!!

The writing was fabulous, as usual. The wit, the humor, the suspense, ... all there and more. And she even added a little HORROR to this one that blew me away!!!! What was missing was the romance... (it''s not Heller's style) and Tilly is STARVING for it and frankly so am I!!!!!

I'm DYING to see where she takes this story next. I have a few predictions that I won't share... but who knows, with Tilly it's always a crap-shoot.

GOD I LOVE THESE BOOKS... HURRY J D!!!! WRITE FASTER!!!!!

5 STARS!!!!!

Mathilda "Tilly" Chalmers

I did not enjoy this book. The last two installments have been lacking of the magic the first books had. The humor has dissapeared and some very questionable supernatural stories have been added. Why questionable you might ask? Well, because they are extremely poorly written making them unbelievable. When you try to write something as a build up to a bigger story line, it´s important to do it right, so it will not only provide for a much richer reading experience, but that, it will also leave the reader intrigued and desesperate to learn more about it. I don´t feel that was the case here, instead it seems malefic´s story got out of hands and the prelude about paranormal was really not well delivered. I have trully high hopes for the next and last book, I fear we will read more about Malefic, but maybe, Tilly´s self discovery and Heller´s bigger part in the storyline (wishful thinking?) will make up for it.

3 I'm not sure what I just read stars. I struggled with whether or not I should leave a rating for this book, but in the end decided to (mostly because there aren't a lot of ratings here yet).

Simply put, I didn't love it. This series has been one of my favorite reads, and I always anticipate when a new book comes out. I pre-ordered this one and was refreshing my iPad all night Tuesday waiting for it to download. I have recommended this series to almost everyone I know. This is why it pains me so much that I really didn't enjoy this one as much as the others.

Here's what I didn't like:
- The

-Almost no LOL moments. The one thing I liked about the Heller books was that they never failed to make me laugh. There was hardly anything in this one that was humorous.

- Almost no Heller. He disappeared halfway through the book and didn't show up again until the last few pages. And of course, he was a dick.

That being said....should you read it? If you've followed the series so far, then probably yes because there's some stuff that will probably be mentioned in the next book.

Bottom line: This is by far the weakest book in the series and I was a bit disappointed when I finished. However, I will still eagerly wait for the next one because I have hope that the author can return to the form she displayed in the previous books.

Happy reading.

I've been fascinated by this series since I read book 1. Heller is a complicated man I was cheering for because he was able to recognize Tilly was something special. the story took a bad turn these last two books leaving me to second guess my original thoughts on the series. Heller was absent in this book. missing all of Tilly's turmoil. it's clear from the way Heller can leave her behind without any contact or a reasonable amount of time to say goodbye. oh by the way I'm leaving in the morning for a few months is no way to treat someone important to you. no matter what the intensity of the relationship it felt wrong and sad and marginalized Tilly's character from loveable goof that sticks that crazy family together to pathetic girl that is too stupid for real life screwing up everything she comes near. so while I imagine there is to be a seventh book I'm not sure this author is capable of delivering a great ending. the woman I care about line was so predictable. it had been pounded into the reader again and again these last two installments that Heller loves Daniel and niq and himself and maybe the idea of a woman. examples include the inability to give her anything but a business arrangement when she has been kidnapped, shot, rendered unable to have children, in multiple car accidents, a breakdown with a stay in psych ward and fistfight all in the name of Heller security and he has given her a place to live and a necklace she asked for that had no real meaning. I'm not sure what I expected but a hopeless love story with a hopeless ending was not it.

I really needed the half point on this one because it should be 3.5... A bunch of stuff happened that bugged me. Like where the heck was Heller when she needed him, but them why wouldn't she let him explain himself..see frustrating. I did like that Tilly got to spend more time on the job with Farrell and half wish they were a couple. I wish there was more to the ending....waiting for the next book to see if happiness happens to poor Tilly.

I wasn't going to write anything about this book, but I just feel like I have to complain about this finale. I mean: WHAT THE HELL, Nixon?

Ok, firstly: I want to kick Heller in the goolies myself! The bastard. I've seen him twice on this book. At the beggining and at the very end! I missed him and that's probably why I kind of fell in love with Farell and may kind of like Clive <3

I want to know what comes next!!!!! I just can't believe what happened here: I'll miss papa; besides, all the shit Tilly went through without him... Tsk tsk, Heller! You've failled this gal! And YOUR gal! Bastard!

I hope the next and last(?) book comes out soon enough, otherwise I'm going to kick someone in the goolies really hard!

First of all, I will continue my work as a Hellervangelist and spread the news of the good books.

BUT...a very reluctant and sheepish 3.5.

- I REALLY liked the book very much through the first half. It got to the point and was very well paced.
- Tilly's first assignment truly showcased Ms. Nixon's ever-evolving talents. It was very creepy.
- I felt there might be some competition for Heller since Farrell and Tilly spent more time working together. This had a great deal of potential.

Had the book continued in this fashion, I would have read it in one sitting.

However, for the first time in my relationship with the Heller series I actually put the book down for several hours.

The second part of the book was a little slow. I am not sure what was the point of the piano-girl job. I found myself skimming more than I usually do.

The absence of Heller throughout the majority of this book was a let-down for me. I enjoy the banter between Heller and Tilly. I was not seeking an overly detailed account of a graphic smut-fest; Ms. Nixon has thus-far avoided over-doing what truly gets old and repetitive in many of today's series books.

The interactions between these two are what keep readers returning. I continue to be intrigued by the enigma of who Heller is. Much to my dismay, this was entirely absent from Heller's Regret.

I won't let any of this stop me from returning for the next book.

Wow! So, this is the first review since 2014!!

So, anyway... I recently heard that the author posted on her facebook page that she will be finally writing again! Though there was no mention of any specific date for any new books, just that she'll be writing again! So, YAY!

Frankly speaking, I've tried and tried to give up on this series, but failed repeatedly. You see, its just so difficult to find a series so engaging and beautifully written. The Heller's series is one of a kind for me! It just got me all hooked and lost in this world JD Nixon created!

One of the catchiest things about this series is the character development! I don't care how many people say that they were disappointed with Heller's Regret... because, the characters just felt so...real! no one's life is always fun and happy, and no one's life is always horrible... the ups and downs are what made me relate to the characters in the Heller's series! It just made them that much more realistic!

Yes, this book wasn't the funniest in the lot.. but it was by far the most ..emotional? sincere? Any book capable of bringing tears to my eyes, is an amazing book in my opinion!... It just shows the author's talent really! This book had it all... the action, the sad parts, the scary parts, the sweet parts, and the funny parts.

I really really hope JD Nixon decides to publish a new book soon!

Sadly, I must give this book 2.5 stars. I was so disappointed with the story line. I skimmed a lot in this book which is a first for me with the Heller series. I thought things may grow with Farrell since he obviously still cares for Tilly. I don't even need to get started on the whole "weirdness" of Malefic & the ghost child or whatever you call it. Didn't seem to fit with the rest of the books in the series. What I like most about this series (up until this book) is the combination of action, romance, and suspense that it has offered. I hate to say this, but please, please, please take a little longer to write the next book J.D. You are a gifted writer who has captivated our hearts with Tilly, Daniel, Heller, Farrell, Niq, Brian (I started to like him more in this book) & the rest of Tilly's family.

I truly enjoyed this series. I loved getting to know all the characters in Heller's world. Getting to know this group of misfits was both hilarious and sad at times. It was lovely to see how this group made a family.
I honestly couldn't wait to see how the author was going to end this series. I was looking forward to some closure and a bit more understanding on some of supporting characters. I wondered how the author was going to weave that into her story. Without going into to much detail I was disappointed and wished it would of been more.
My rating for the complete series was 4 stars for moi! This read was 2.5-3
Again my personal opinion

I can’t believe I just read six books and roughly 1.700 pages, just to come to an unsatisfying ending and know about Heller as much as I knew in the first book.

I’m done!

It's a long series and still one more book to go. Despite the name, it's not Heller we read about here, though he is, albeit, a very important part.
Our protagonist is the tall, charming, generous, and kindhearted Tilly (Matilda) Chalmers who out of desperation joins a security agency headed by the handsome Heller. And that is precisely when her life completely changes (whether for the best or worst, that is highly debatable). In fact, the things that happen to her from the moment she sets foot in their warehouse styled office, should have been hints enough for her to realize how her life was going to turn.
Throughout the series, we find Tilly going on all kinds of assignments; meeting mostly crazy, dangerous, though sometimes nice, people; juggling her personal and professional lives; and all this while, trying to figure out the mysterious Heller.
Heller is an enigma. He absolutely refuses to share any information about himself or his past, though from others we come to know bits and pieces about him. He can be sweet, caring and understanding when he wants. But mostly he is extremely insensible and unemotional, hardcore practical and business-minded. Tilly has to suffer due to some of Heller’s decisions. He can also be a dictator at times. In “Heller’s Regret”, he is more absent than present, leaving Tilly alone to face all the problems that come with being a security officer and then some. In other words, feelings about Heller can get pretty mixed.
Special mention should be made to Daniel and Nick who are among those few people always there for Tilly.
The whole series is interesting, adventurous and more than enough to keep one entertained in Tilly Chalmers’ life for a long time. The level of danger increases with each passing novel and Tilly is transformed from being a carefree, lightweight, protected girl to a fiercely independent, brave woman who refuses to back down.

I would have rated this a 3.5 stars if not for making me cry that devastated me so i was especially feeling her pain.

So finally this one is a 4.5 stars, the half point is for Heller being away so much and not being there for Tilly. I'm afraid that Tilly will turn out a second Stephanie Plum, so i hope that she gets her shit straightened out in the next book.

The supernatural thing was annoying, we already had Malefic in one of the last books (and this one too). That was weird enough. When i want to read a super natural book i will read one, and the Heller series in my opinion should stay as it is and not adding PN thingies.

I had a few good laughs and while i was crying started snorting so this book made me feel different things, definitely a good thing. Although i have to say that comparing the last one to the first book is another thing. The first book had me laughing my ass off, i could not stop!! I think i will always rate this series a little biased for my love of the first book... :p

Can't wait for the next one!

P.s. => the covers of this series are really horrendous! I think a lot of people skip these books because of the covers!

Wow, Wow, Wow, I can't even find the words to describe how sensational this book was. If you haven't read the others in the Heller series I strongly suggest you do. The first book is free & you will be hooked from the get go! I have seen so many changes in the characters, Tilly has evolved & grown up so much from the first book. It's so refreshing to see a strong opinionated woman in her, although she still finds trouble or it finds her everywhere she goes, some things will never change. Heller has remained his old domineering, elusive self, but I think he's starting to coming around and we get a glimpse of a softer side of him that we never saw before. Of course I couldn't write a review on this book without mentioning the warehouse family and how much I adore Farrell, Daniel, Niq & even Clive, who has showed he can actually carry out a conversation with more than two syllabus. Ms. Nixon has yet again gave us great book that hasn't lost its luster from the first. I can't believe there only one more book left in this series. : (. We still have her Little Town series which gives me great comfort for the time being.

I started this series as a recommendation from a Stephanie plum reader. I like this series much better although heller doesn't compare to ranger. I was also sad when I found out book 6 wasn't the last and we will be forever waiting for the final in the series :( in a previous book there was a scene where Tilly ends up with Trent and it frustrates me that isn't addressed yet. I don't like heller and I'm pleased how the book finally ends with Tilly standing up for herself. I hope she ends up the lovable Ferrell but I have realistic doubts about that :(

WARNING!! DO NOT READ!

THE AUTHOR HAS STOPPED WRITING.

THERE IS NO CONCLUSION TO THE SERIES. THERE IS NO HEA.

SHE HAS DISAPPEARED FROM THE WRITING WORLD. NO FB POSTS FOR 2 YRS. WEBSITE IS GONE. BLOG IS SHUT DOWN

I loved the first few books. In fact, I read them maniacally trying to get to my HEA. Sadly that NEVER happened. I eventually became VERY frustrated. I felt like I was being strung along indefinitely. Turns out I was. The story took a direction that I did not expect and at a very critical point in the story, the author stopped delivering. In her defense, I believe she became ill. While that is sad, it does not help the readers that have been left hanging. My suggestion is pass this author by. There's more than enough series out there that are complete. No need to torture yourself with this one.

To JD, I truly hope you are well and that you have found your personal HEA!

I guess this would be a major cliff hanger given there's no seventh book. It's cruel to be honest. I thought given how lengthy the series was becoming and the fact that there were serious changes to the story, it would end.
I really wanted it to end with Heller's regret. She did a fantastic job with this series but come on! It wouldn't have been terrible to let the man admit he loves the woman at the end with an epilogue of a disastrous but hearty happily ever after.
I'm disappointed.
And to be honest? I was quickly losing interest after the third book. It's a shame, really.
A novella would be nice at least.
Well, I guess we just have to dream our ending for the couple, yeah?
Good luck!

Necesito "Heller´s Family".
-Niq y Danny. LOS NECESITO.
