When 24 year old Rachel Landry, who suffers from a debilitating mental illness, recieves a knock at her door one night from a stranger she gets an offer she can’t refuse. The chance to live as a vampire, gaining eternal life and relative sanity seems like a great plan. Soon she comes to realize she has been turned for a specific purpose and her vampire existence may be short lived. Also the handsome stranger may not be as much of a stranger as she thought. Facing her demons along with new enemies she must come to rely on her own strength to save her life, and the life of her new clan.

The Vampires of Soldiers Cove was a riveting read. Jessica's novel is it's own form of addiction, once I picked it up I simply didn't want to put it down, and when I did I itched to pick it back up and continue reading. I enjoyed that Jessica didn't try to make vampires seem like sparkly fairies but instead creatures that can be easily ruled by their base animalistic urges. I also love the way Jessica offers explanation for how the vampires are able to live in soldiers cove for such extended periods of time without raising questions.
Loyalty, love, sex, violence, what more could you ask for in a book?
I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for book 2!!

I came in to contact with Jessica via Facebook and spoke with her about becoming an indie author. The conversation got to the point of me asking her if she had actually been able to publish a book, she said she had so I asked for the link. I purchased the book and once I had finished one ebook, I moved onto hers.
I was not expecting it to be so good. I love the vampire fad, my fascination coming shortly after the "Twilight" fad when I realized vampires could be desirable creatures. I have to say I love this book even more than any of the books of Stephanie Meyers series. I really HATE to include Twilight in any review but honestly if it weren't for those books I wouldn't bother with my interest in vampires at all and it would not have led me to this review. Stephanie does not begin to compare to Jessica. The characters are well thought out, the writing flows smoothly, and the scenes are raw.
I loved everything about this book and really have nothing bad to say about it. I'm surprised Jessica hasn't had more reviews. This book is not one to be missed out on for sure.
Rachel is an adult who for years has been haunted by voices in her mind and those voices have forced her to become a recluse and not have much human contact. Her parents also blamed everything on her which made her go into her shell a little bit more. One night a guy knocks at her door asking for her help. She follows him without thinking twice, silently scolding herself for doing so. She knows it's stupid. She knows only a lunatic would follow a stranger in the woods.
This decision changes her life forever and with the promise of not hearing the voices, she makes a quick decision to be turned into a vampire. From there we learn that Rachel's gift of hearing voices can come of help to the new clan she was made in to. We find that their leader's brother has plans to demolish the clan and threaten human lives as well as vampire lives. The story evolves and not only are there vampires in this books but Satyrs and Nymphs.
The only thing I would say is a little off is Gavin and Rachel's relationship as it came out of nowhere. But, it was too endearing to care. I loved Gavin and I loved Rachel as a female character.
I don't want to give too much more than that. All I have to say is if you love vampires, and gore, and a love story to match, you'll love this book. It is a part of a series but the ending wraps up nicely to where you feel fulfilled. There is no huge cliffhanger which I find to be a trend in so many books. I will say, I hate series and cliffhangers because by the time the next book comes out I have forgotten what the first book is about and honestly have forgotten to watch for the next book coming out. With this, I don't have to worry about it because I know I can read the next book if I want but I'm content for now to where I'm not pressuring the writer to get the next book out.

Rachel Landry has suffered with Mental Health issues her entire life where even her parents needed a break from her but a knock at the door one evening shows her that the voices in her head aren't a sign of her being crazy but innermost thoughts of her neighbours.
Gavin has been a Vampire for a long time and has struggled with his control until an injured woman in the woods years ago tests his restraint. The time has come where he can finally come face to face with Rachel again but it's not under the circumstances he'd like.
Gavin and Rachel are a perfect book couple for me, not too cliche or over powering. Rachel is your typical woman and I instantly gelled with her, she has her own will but most importantly she has common sense which is often lacking in heroines.
Gavin is the ultimate dreamboat leading male where you really can't get better. Alpha males really get on my nerves and although Gavin is certainly masculine he's only a pussycat when it comes to Rachel.
There was drama, romance and action so all bases were covered. The Paranormal element of the Vampires and Satyrs was well done and the villains were numerous for Rachel so you never got too comfortable whilst reading.
The location of Nova Scotia was a fantasy in and of itself with the dense woods and coatline, definitely makes me want to visit there.
Really enjoyed this story and the little sizzle it gave with the erotic scenes. I was hooked and drawn into their world and I eagerly started straight onto book two.

What I absolutely love about The Vampires of Soldiers Cove was, not only Ms. MacIntyre's writing style - she has an excellent command on storytelling, grammar and editing, but I also loved the edginess, violence, power and hot sex. TVOSC is in no way formulaic. This book is deliciously dark, edgy and riveting and for some, Ms. MacIntyre may have taken some risks with the dark and edgy, but, in my opinion, it more than paid off. I've been following her on Facebook since the book's release and judging by how fast her fan base is growing, the risks have returned huge dividends! Gavin and Rachel's relationship is swoon-worthy, nicely developed and not rushed.
I remember being about 25% into the book and looking down at the Kindle bookmark to see I still had a lot of book left to read and smiling. I loved this book so much I bought the paperback to add to my "favorites" collection. I'll be reading TVOSC again only slower this time to savor every word, sentence, paragraph, page and chapter! There is no cliffhanger with this book and after reading a teaser on her FB wall, the next book, One Crow Sorrow, will be about another couple in Soldiers Cove. I also learned there will be four books in this series and the next installment is tentatively scheduled for release in September. I. Cannot. Wait!
If you are a fan of Tessa Dawn or D.B. Reynolds, you will love this book and I highly recommend it!

This completely took me by surprise. The title made me ‘umm and ahh’ for a little while before purchasing this book and the cover is so delicate and understated that I wasn't sure if it even appealed to me – How wrong I was!
This was a rather refreshing look at a well-worn subject. Vampires and Vampire fiction are such a well-established genre that it is really hard to find a story that hasn't been told a hundred different ways already. Jessica MacIntyre somehow managed to do just that! From the prologue to the final chapter I was hooked. Rachel is thrown from one lifestyle into another and is forced to deal with a whole host of problems both internally and externally. The unapologetically blood-thirsty way that MacIntyre explores Vampirism is both refreshing and exciting and makes Rachel and Gavin’s relationship multifaceted.
There are moments of horror, struggle, retribution, disobedience, surprise and justice. You find yourself asking: ‘what would I do in her situation?’ And, concerning though it may be, the response may not be what you would expect of yourself….

I have to say I read ALOT of vampire stories and Jessica's is a new, fresh take on the whole vampire genre! I absolutely fell in LOVE with Rachel! She is such a strong, intelligent, resilient young woman who has faced down more adversity in 24 years than most could bear in a lifetime and still has her wits about her. Her love, Gavin, is just what I want my hero to be! He is strong and protective and cares so deeply for Rachel that he continually second guesses himself, which makes him all the more lovable!
The story line and characters that Jessica creates have so much depth and are so well written that you feel Gavin's pain and grief with his brother and then you are actually soaring above the treetops with him! The amazing secondary characters add so much to the story, you are NEVER BORED and you want to be a part of this wonderful yet dysfunctional family of vampires! I definitely hope there are more books coming from the Soldiers of Vampire Cove and Jessica MacIntyre! SHE ROCKS! You need to get this book!!!

I won this book from the author after entering her online contest. I knew nothing of the book except it had the promise of vampires in it.
First the bad: Not much to say here over all. It was all cosmetic with a few publishing errors and editing errors (I've seen more in a Stephen King novel), but none of this interrupted the flow of the story.
NOW: The good...(no spoilers here you have to read the book). Right from the start the author chose an interesting twist to her story of rivalry, love and loyalty. She didn't leave me hanging on wondering what would happen, but made me want to push forward to see where the story was going to end. I very much enjoyed her use of other paranormal creature you do not see accompanied by vampires. I also like how she was able to weave how the vampire community was strong inside of what seems a small venue and impossible for them to exist. I consider this book a definite must read and I am starting to read the second instalment to the series right away instead of waiting. I only give five stars to something I feel I will want to read again.

I completely fell in love with this story! Rachel has had to deal with the pain of hearing voices for many years and with the loss of her parents, she is feeling more ill by the day. That all changes when Gavin shows up at her door. In the blink of an eye, her life as she knows it has changed.
When Rachel discovers the plans that the clan is making, you can see that she struggles with wanting to change things. James irritated me to know end and I have to say that Karma bit him in the ass! Aries was a nice little temptation and I would love to have learned more about this amazing creature.
Vampire politics are a mystery unto themselves. I couldn’t figure out why Angus was so set against involving the other clans. I know they don’t want to be seen as week but these clans don’t seem to want to take each other over. I am seriously hoping that Jessica continues with this amazing group of characters.

Brilliant! Picked this book up as a kindle freebee. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it but I couldn't put it down. From the first sentence of the prologue to the last I was hooked. In reality I should give this book 4.5 stars but...whatever!
Rachel annoyed me a little at times with her "I'm useless" attitude and Gavin could win a price for the worst Guardian ever! But still I loved this Book, hence the 5 star rating. I would have liked to see the Battle scene in a bit more detail and a touch longer. The battle wasn't half as gruesome as a few scenes earlier in the Book and it should have been worse. However, I'm going to buy Book 2.... C cause I need to know what's happening next.
This Book can be read on its own without the need to go further....but I wants to :)

So this book was pretty bad ass. Not only does it have it’s sweet moments, but it will have you on the edge of your seat wondering who is bad and what is going to happen next. I loved Rachel and Gavin. Gavin’s back story had me feeling bad and then saying AWWWW out loud so everyone looked at me like I was crazy.. The descriptions are awesome and I was able to clearly picture everything in my mind and the description of the revenants had me scrunching up my nose as if one was going to walk into my house and I’d have to smell it. (Gross)

I bought the book because the blurb sounded very interesting.
I was not let down at all, Jessica MacIntyre brings new life to vampires and added in satyr's too.
While reading this book I was swept away into a story that I could not put down. I wanted to know what would happen with Gavin & Rachel.
I felt invested in the story and the characters lives. I absolutely cannot wait for more in this series.
I feel as strongly about Gavin & Rachel and even Duncan, as I did about Anne Rice's Louis & Lestat!
I would recommend this book for anyone that is a fan of vampires, romance and hot steamy scenes as well!

Sorry :( This was not a book that I was able to get into and I and tried to read it three different times. The grammar and punctuation, or lack thereof, was extremely distracting and the story did not flow the way it should.
I did not find this to be an erotic story in any way, nor would I even call it a romance as there were no romantic scenes longer than four or five words.
I do have "The Slave Queen" and the "Slave Knight" that I have downloaded, and I'm hoping there will be improvements from the book as noted above.

I've read lots of vampire books. Everything from Twilight to Dracula, and I have to say, I love this book. It ranks up there with the best. The story is dark at times and the vampires behave like, well, vampires! If this is the beginning of a series I can't wait to see what this writers does next. Amazing! Five stars!

This book was full of really great characters that you instantly connect with.
The story line was totally captivating and the book really hard to put down for any length of time.

This book sucked me in and would not let me go until I was finished, and then I needed more.
It moved along at an amazing pace, had characters that you cannot help but fall in love with and an interesting story that keeps you entertained throughout the entire book.
Jessica MacIntyre is an amazing author and I look forward to reading more from this talented writer.

Her parents blamed all the stress on her which made her go into her shell and after their death, become a recluse. One night a hot guy knocks at her door asking for her help. She is compelled to follow him even though she knows it’s stupid. Trust some random stranger when you live in an itty bitty town and know everyone? For some reason, she does.
Doing so changes her life completely as she finds out this mystery man is undead. A vampire. With the promise of finally silencing the voices in her head, she decides to be changed into a vampire as well. Rachel is a strong woman who takes everything in stride. And the man who changed her, Gavin, is a total sweetheart who will do anything to protect her. Rachel is the key to a clan’s survival as those voices turn out to be a gift of hearing someone’s thoughts. A huge fight is coming but can she master her skills in time to help them out? Or will she just drag the clan down as a newbie vamp?
I could not put this book down! It flowed well, teleporting you into their world. And Jessica’s perception of vampires? I adored it! Violent, beautiful creatures who respect human life but aren’t above taking a person or two out. The rules of this new world are interesting; you learn not only about vampires, but Satyrs and Nymphs as well.
And the romance! I could gush about it forever!

This was my first experience reading a book by Ms. MacIntyre. This is a story of a young lady brought into a clan of vampires for a specific use against an enemy. I found the story a little hard to get into at the beginning, the world building was a little shotty and the writing a little elementary. Though the story did get better about a third of the way through, this author could benefit from a couple good beta readers to help with the errors found throughout the book. I noticed a few cases where the wrong characters names were used in certain scenes and several times where sentences just didn't make sense due to their wording. The premise of the story was well thought out, but really needed some fleshing out for a better flow. A lot happens in this book, and Ms. MacIntyre is able to bring her characters to life. It wasn't until about halfway through the book that I actually started to feel any kind of emotion towards these characters. I felt some lacking in information in regards to Rachel the lead heroine, she is described as an Acadian however there is no real detail as to what this means for Rachel, it was noted that this was not a desirable trait but I would have liked a more detailed explanation of the differences between an Acadian and what the other vampires were (which was not mentioned). I liked that we were introduced to a couple of different types of paranormal creatures such as Satyrs and Nymphs, these aren't characters we are often introduced to in vampire stories and it worked out well. All in all the story was interesting after a third of the way through and now that I am vested in the 2 main characters I will probably pick up the next books in the series.

After years of ridicule Rachel's "curse" may be what finally gives her life.
Rachel has been hearing voices in her head for years and dealing with all of the stigma and loneliness that accompanies that. After loosing her parents to an accident she goes into a somewhat self-imposed exile from society in attempt to quiet the voices until the night Gavin knocks on her door entering her into a world she never believed existed. Gavin is a vampire with a dark past who needs Rachel's help to stop an event that would change the lives of countless innocent people.
Seeing as I picked this book up as a freebie, I was a little apprehensive as to how good it was going to be. Surprise to me…I couldn't put it down and when I did I was driving myself crazy thinking about what was going to happen. Rachel's strength and determination was inspiring. Gavin's devotion, love, and support of Rachel throughout was wonderful as well.
The book was an easy read with great character growth, political intrigue (as only vampires can accomplish), family unrest, deception, action, love, and even a little sex. The author did a wonderful job of conveying all parts of the story clearly so the reader is able to easily picture the scenes in their head without overdoing the violent or sexual scenes as many do. There were a few characters that I wish had been expanded on a little bit, as well as a little more background given to the story, though it does not take away from the story in any way.

Interesting twist on vampires and the other creatures, satyrs and nymphs, in the Soldiers Cove universe. Rachel has been plagued by voices in her head all her life and isolated herself from others. She has been discovered by a vampire Gavin who has admired her for years, and asked to turn her. Being vampire changes her curse into a gift to their clan. Other members do not feel the same due to some prejudice that is vaguely explained and they wish have her destroyed. Internal battles are placed on hold as a bigger threat has returned with a revenant zombie army to challenge the vampire clan. I have mixed feelings on this new series.... This is more of a 2.5 star read for me. Much of the first part was like lessons for "Vampires 101" and much was hidden from the newly turned Rachel which made the story feel awkward at times. She was accountable even though vampire politics were never explained, again awkward. Then I always hate storylines that involve rape, and it wasn't necessary IMO nor handled very well. This was a fast moving read and the second half picked up and improved as new characters were introduced. Still a few odd tidbits are added into the story but never really tied in, but I'm hoping this is first book issues. I'm interested enough to continue with the series to see where it goes.

I was asked to check out this book, by the author, and I have to admit, I'm a little leery when that happens. I like to pick books on my own and even though I'm totally into the Vampire thing I still wasn't sure. I can be pretty picky. Shame on me! Time and time again I am surprised when I get over myself and step out of my comfort zone. This book was just another one of those surprises.
Why you should read this book: there are vampires (obviously), there is romance, there are STEAMY sex scenes, there is conflict, and of course a HEA. Sorry if that's a spoiler! (not really - I hate reading books that don't end well) I raced through it in one sitting and can't wait to go back for a re-read. Definitely a must read.

This is a must read, WOW!!!! This book is so very good, I flew through it. This is what Vampires are. Great writing and story telling, good characters, there's conflict, creatures, a love story, hot vampire, politics like only vampires can do and a female lead that grows into her self. I so hope this author can catch a break, it's deserved. I would be happy to read anything by her, plus I loved the creatures she chose to put into story. Support an Indie author and do yourself a service, READ THIS!!! Jessica, please don't make me wait to long for the next story!! Plus, she wraps up the story nicely, no cliffhanger, which I know a lot of people seem to be tiring of. Read, read, read!!!!

The Vampires of Soldiers Cove by Jessica MacIntyre is a different view on vampires. They live in clans on sanctuaries. They marry and have human kids and live as singular families with jobs until they perceive themselves time to "die" and return to sanctuary. MacIntrye writes with a unique perspective.

I already love vampire stories but this one has a lot of twists and turns in it that you just cant imagine. The author must have a vivid imaginatioin for all that when on here. Though it seems like your reading someones entire life this is just the beginning. There is a little bit of everything in this book for just about every type of reader.

The book started out strong and I loved it. Then someone where around the middle, it seemed to have lost momentum. Overall it was a good book. I just wish the whole book would have stayed as strong as the beginning.

It's not a bad story. The endings are a little guessable, but that's often the case. The reason m not scoring higher is due to the unacceptable mistakes. aring one, and repeated, is the use of "gentile" ead of "gentle".
Would I recommend it? As a story yes, but not if grammer is you're thing!
