A couple of weeks ago I participated in the cover reveal for Sienna, and when I saw that it was a Kindle freebie I knew I had to get it since I've had it on my to-read list since June. I was a little nervous like I always am when it comes to reading a novella but I got lucky and picked another winner folks.

Sienna was a quick, action packed adrenaline ride full of murder, deception with a hint of romance. Usually novellas are very one dimensional for me but this one wasn't at all. I thought Sienna was a great prequel because it felt twice as long as it actually was which isn't an easy thing to do but Rae Rivers pulled it off with roaring success.

Since this was a prequel, I was really glad that I had read it before I started Archer, since I've read the summary for Archer, I already had many questions that I would have had resolved when I read this. Since I don't read a lot of books that have witches anymore because a bunch of years ago there was a bit of an influx of books like those on the market so when I read this one I thought it was so refreshing.

The characters were really well developed for such a short read and I genuinely developed an affection for Sienna and Archer. I didn't learn a ton of information about them in this book but what I did learn I really liked. Both of them love each other but they have that whole forbidden love thing to deal with as having to deal with the fact that both of them are extremely strong willed which I liked seeing because I was a little worried that Sienna might be a pushover but she totally wasn't.

The plot was set out really well and I think for a prequel this served it's purpose in the best way, it not only provides answers to those who read the first book Archer before Sienna was released it also served as a starting point for new readers really well and definitely left me wanting to read Archer's story.

Overall, I loved Sienna by Rae Rivers. I think that the author is a fresh and exciting voice in the genre and I'm exceptionally pleased with the fact that there are so many more South African writers that are now reaching a wider, global audience.

I would recommend Sienna to those looking for a quick paranormal read with lots of action, a strong plot and interesting characters. This is the perfect afternoon read and I can see this being something people would enjoy in between longer novels.

Sienna Beckman, a witch, was born with the fire element and was gifted her grandmother's powers over all four elements as well. She and her Keepers, Archer, Declan, Ethan and Sarah Bennett all reside together on the Bennett Estate. Theirs is a symbiotic relationship. Not only have the Bennetts protected the Beckman witches for generations they were close friends as well. More like one family than anything else. The Keepers: Sienna is a prequel that tells the background story to lead into Rae Rivers series The Keepers. The first full novel is The Keepers: Archer.

The book opens with Sienna and Archer on their way to the school to celebrate the Annual School Festival. Sienna is unsure she will ever be able to gain control over all four of the elements she now contains. There are those who would harm Sienna and anyone else they feel stands in their way. A prank to scare Sienna or a warning of the evil to come. A secret ritual and a murder. The evil has begun.

This is a story, that although short, is fully developed. The characters are multidimensional and could be someone you would like to get to know better. Easily read as a stand alone, you will enjoy reading Archer's story which lucky for us is available for immediate download. This series is fast moving and action packed and so much fun to read. Pick up a copy for your own enjoyment today.

Sienna is a powerful witch. Her grandmother has passed on her powers to her, but they are too much for Sienna to handle. They overwhelm her and are a big responsibility. The Beckham witches have to make sure the balance between good and evil is right and they are making sure nobody knows they're witches. Unfortunately two evil warlock brothers don't mind if they are exposed. They commit the most horrible crimes and they are after Sienna. She has to beat them to restore the balance. Fortunately she doesn't have to do it alone, there are more witches and each witch has her own keepers. Sienna's keepers are four siblings, three brothers and a sister, her best friend Sarah. When they are supervising at a carnival things go horribly wrong and because of what happens Sienna makes a drastic decision...

I love stories about witches and couldn't wait to read this prequel of The Keepers. I haven't read any of the other books yet and started with this one. I immediately liked Sienna and her keepers. The three brothers Archer, Declan and Ethan all protect her with all their might. Archer and Sarah are the special ones in Sienna's life. I loved that this novella is filled with power battles and action. I couldn't stop reading and wanted to find out more about the witches and their keepers. I enjoyed this story so much that I immediately bought the first full length novel of the series. I think it's wonderful that this introduction is free. I enjoyed this novella very much and think Rae Rivers has created an amazing world with wonderful main characters.

Rae has done it again for me with this wonderful novella and prequel to The Keepers: Archer. I have read The Keepers: Archer first so my experience of this novella may be different to someone who reads Sienna first. I promise I won't give anything away.

I was so so so excited to hear that Rae was releasing a prequel to her Keepers series. I read The Keepers: Archer back in June and have been wanting desperately to immerse myself in that world again, and this novella did not disappoint. I already knew all the characters very well, apart from two of them and they were exactly as I remembered and meant that I did not need much character development, but I think Rae still did this well in this shorter story.

Reading the prequel explained a lot of what had happened in Archer's story, with one character in particular making an appearance in the prequel that I had wanted to get to know more about in Archer's story. I was excited to see that the heat between Sienna and Archer was extremely evident in this! Archer is definitely still my top book boyfriend! I am only annoyed that the story wasn't longer! I would have liked to have read more in some parts and get to know one of the characters a little better, but that's just me being greedy.

This was an action packed, fast paced read once again and if you have not read The Keepers: Archer yet I know you will be aching to find out what happens next!

If you like supernatural romances then this is a must read. It’s a simply spectacular short story that more than sets the scene for the entire Keepers series in a way that will have you downloading the next installment before you’ve even turned the last page.

Rae Rivers introduces the reader to the main players, including Sienna and . . . wait for it . . . Archer. If ever there were a man you’d want protecting you, it’s Archer – and if you like alpha male type characters, you’ll want to eat him with a spoon.

This is a mystical, magical tale filled with romance and action that is thoroughly addictive. Plus it’s free! So, if you go ahead and download this, clear any plans you may have . . . I’ve given you fair warning!

Having got the first in The Keepers series on my iPad (not read it yet!) I was excited to see a free prequel which I devoured in a couple of sittings. I am not a paranormal fan but when it is woven so well into a contemporary setting it gets my interest! Rae Rivers manages this brilliantly and you are introduced to Beckham witch, Sienna, her Keepers and one of the dark forces out to get her...Mason.
A nail-biting, intense ride that sets up the series perfectly! I can't wait to read more!

I am thrilled that this free read was available to draw me into another fantastic series with an author who has a way of pulling you in and offering up characters that can be described as addictive.

This prequel to the "Keepers" trilogy is an introduction to the world of witches where secrecy is required. Having the general public know of their existence could lead to disaster, therefore the balance between good and evil has to be maintained.

Sienna struggles with her new powers, but when her life and those of her Keepers are threatened, she loses control. Heartache follows. She is also faced with the forbidden love with one of her Keepers.

This introduction gives a taste of all the magic to come, and the power struggle between good and evil. The abrupt ending is an incentive to read the next book.

If you believe in magic, then The Keepers is a great book to read. The blurb had me intrigued and once I started I couldn't put it down. The Keepers: Sienna is the prequel to the Keepers Series by Rae Rivers and this one is a real gem of a novella. The characters are very lovable, it's entertaining and keeps you on your toes right until the very end. This novella draws you in to introduce you to the characters and give you a teaser into what hopefully comes next in the series, The Keepers: Archer. I really enjoyed reading this and glad to have found it on Amazon.

Book Review- The Keepers: Sienna by Rae Rivers

This is a prequel to The Keepers: Archer. In this book Sienna has been given her Grandmother Rose’s powers and she is still learning to control them. She refuses to ask Rose for help. She is still too angry with her. Archer tries to help her learn control.
However, Archer and Sienna are having feelings for each other which are forbidden between a keeper and his witch. They know it can never be but they can’t stop what they feel. They try and watch what they do with each other, but sometimes it proves too hard.
Archer’s siblings and fellow keepers know how he feels for Sienna. They try and help the best they can.
One night while they all volunteered for the town carnival, Sienna takes her shift in the Hall of Mirrors. During a lull of people, Sienna sees a reflection of a skeletal person next to her in the mirror. It growls and reaches for her. She flees from it and thinks that someone is playing a prank on her. She realizes after someone is found murdered in the parking lot who it was.
The Brogan brothers were back and Mason was the skeletal man.
They want to reveal their kind to the humans and need their family grimore unsealed. They need the stones and Rose to unseal it. Rose was the only one who could conger the stones in order to use them. So Mason out smarts the keepers and steals Sienna away. She becomes the pawn in his game to get what he wants. He completes a spell that compels the keepers and Sienna to meet with him and his brother to unseal the book.
Unfortunately plans don’t go as they are supposed to and Sienna’s life is changed forever.

This story gives a lot of information which helps explain the story line in The Keepers: Archer. After reading Sienna, Archer makes more sense. I wish I would have read this one first.
The events in this story reveal Sienna’s relationship with her keepers and her grandmother. It also sheds light on what happens to Sarah and how everything falls apart.
However, Sienna’s character tended to be dramatic about everything and that was a bit annoying for me to read. I would actually roll my eyes at her behavior. All in all the storyline is an interesting one. I like the idea of a witch and her protectors. It puts a new spin on a story about magic. I give it a 3 out of 5.

This the free prequel to The Keepers : Archer read from author Rae Rivers.

It takes you into a deeper look at the lives of the characters from the first book Archer and Sienna. Not wanting to give anything away here as you simply need to read it for yourself , I will be summing this up in a short and sweet version.

We have the witch Sienna and one of her keepers Archer, the town carnival that brings it all into alignment, and leaves in it's wake the opening to a complete new world of sorcery, murder, revenge and the thirst for power, but best of all no one sees it coming! What could be better, it is like the unexpected badguy being revealed in a good old fashioned horror movie, only so much more entertaining!

The characters were well written and the extra look into their lives gave me a little more insight into the how's and why's of the characters, basically it answered some questions for me that I had after reading The Keepers: Archer, and personally I wished that I had read this prequel first.

Never the less, the author created a excellent plot and starting point for the leading you into the first book, and did so masterfully with vivid imagination and overwhelming mystery that there is no way anyone will be able to stop reading once they get started.

Once again I really enjoyed the emotional punch the author packed with her characters and their actions, it blends perfectly with the running to and from in live that many of us struggle with on a daily basis, yes we are witches running from our keepers but we do run from a non normal life in search of a life bordering on a just a little more normalcy rather than running towards a solution for it all.

I recommend this read for anyone who is into spells, witchcraft, romance with a twist and I urge you to read this book before cracking open book one of which the review can be found here : The Keepers: Archer

I great prequel and packed all the info you would need to get set for the real ride.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews Rae contacted me as part of Harper Impulse Fortnight to see if I would be interested in reviewing The Keepers: Declan, so I looked up the book and while I was dying to read it, I had a little issue. Declan was not the first book in the series and I am a bit of a stickler for reading books in the order they should be in. So I logged on to Amazon to find that Sienna (book 0.5) was free. I instantly downloaded it. I was almost halfway through Sienna when I knew I had to read the rest of the series. Rae has kindly emailed me copies which I will be reviewing shortly.

So back to the story. Sienna is a witch who has just inherited her grandmothers powers. (Side note: Now I am not sure how the powers were passed to Sienna and I am hoping this is something we discover as the series continues.) Sienna has 4 Keepers Archer, Sarah, Ethan and Declan. These four are sworn to keep Sienna safe at all times.

Now I am not going to go into too much detail on the story as this is only a prequel and under 100 pages. I will however say that it is fast paced, explosive and exciting.

I raced through page after page and couldn't put it down. I was not prepared for so much to happen in such a short book. Rae makes the best use of every single word. There is nothing on the page for filler. There is nothing that wastes your time.

I have to say that this had an interesting ending and I am very much looking forward to reading Archer and Declan.

E-galley received through Netgalley for review

The Keepers: Sienna is a prequel novella for Rae Rivers' The Keepers series. It's just something to whet your appetite for the main story; it doesn't contain much backstory. We're plunged into the action and shown somethign important in the lives of Sienna and her Keepers.

Sienna Beckham is a young witch. She has just received from her grandmother Rose the power to evoke all the four elements. Sienna has four keepers: Archer, Sarah, Declan, and Ethan. She's closest to Archer, with whom she has a secret relationship. They keep it a secret because it's forbidden for a witch and a Keeper to love each other. Sienna and her Keepers are giving a hand at the local high school carnival fair. It's supposed to be fun times for everyone, but something goes awry and a man is found murdered in the school parking lot.

Sienna and her Keepers realize that the strange happenings in town depend from the return of the Brogan brothers, who belong to a rival witch family. In order to force Sienna's family to help him gain power, Mason Brogan kidnaps Sienna and binds her to him. As Sienna fights to break the link off, her life will e changed forever.

I liked this novella. I couldn't understand much of the general picture, though. I suppose this is intended to be read before the first book in the series, in order to reveal the antifact to the main story. I don't know if I'm going to read the novel; probably not. The forbidden love story between the witch and her protector is not exactly original.

The Keepers: Sienna is a prequel to the trilogy. As a standalone read it is an interesting tale full of sensual tension, paranormal drama and vivid characters.
The paranormal elements of this novella are well thought out and the antagonist dark and evil. The atmosphere created by the author makes reading this story a sensual experience.

We meet The Keepers, Archer, Declan, Ethan and Sarah and explore the dynamic between them and Sienna before discovering why a tragic event in their shared past effects their future actions.

This story has additional significance if you read The Keepers: Archer released last year, first. It answers important questions about Sienna's past, how she ends up alone hiding from her keepers and why she shuns her magical heritage.

Mason is trying to reverse the spell that was put on his families book. The only way he can do that is if sienna used the grimore to cancel the spell. Once the spell is over. Mason can access the book, so he can find and kill the grandest witch receive all her powers. Mason has summon s spell on Sienna, Whatever happens to him happens to her but what Mason didn't know is that its also works the other way. Sienna tricked Mason because since shes a fire/water witch I guess you can say shes immune to it. Casting her spell managing to suffocate Mason until he undoes the spell against them.
What I like about this book was that it was always interesting. There was never a chapter where it got boring. Every time I finished a page it made me wanna read more and more until I finished reading the book. This book kept me on my toes and always wanting me to read more.
What I disliked about this book was that it sometime jumped to different people and that confused me a little but after awhile it started not to bother me. That will probably have to be the only thing that I dislike about this book.
I would recommend this book to people who never like to read. I usually never read but one day I just picked up this book and it changed me on how I think about books.

This is a really good book. It wasn't what I expected at first then it turned out to really good. The book was about this witch and her keepers who fight off mason and all his evil tricks. Mason is this bad guy who likes to terrorize the people but most of all he likes to scare Sienna and make Archer mad. Sienna got more powers from her grandmother Rose. Sienna is still learning how to use them. Archer one of her keepers that she was very close to helped her learn her new powers. Once carnival came mason appears and he takes Sienna until the keepers make a deal with him to open his grimore. Which is a special name for a magic spell book. Well they agree and he lets Sienna go or be will kill her cause he connected their powers and what ever happens to him happens to her. So they had a plan which worked but Mason's brother killed Sarah and Sienna drained all of her powers and keepers and nearly kills them. After that she goes home and goes to her family grimore and unconnected her and her keepers powers. After that she leaves the town and didn't come back.

Sienna is the prequel to The Keepers series by Rae Rivers. It is meant to draw readers in and introduce them to the characters.

Rae Rivers did a decent job introducing the characters but there really wasn’t a lot of background to gather from this book that the reader couldn’t get from reading the first book in the series. I expected to learn more about the characters and what made them who they are before I started reading The Keepers series. The events and actions were very predictable. The few exciting parts and the mystery kept me dragging through.

I wouldn’t say this is a horrible book but there are many things that could have made it much better. The editing could use some work. I’m really looking forward to reading The Keepers series because I’m really hoping that the stories get better.

An interesting prequel that tease you to know more.

Witchcraft, villains, death and a forbidden love. A good mix that makes this preamble a good introduction to discover the characters before starting the volume one of this series.

In this short introduction, the characters retain much of mystery and many questions remain unanswered. The role of this text is to make you want to continue reading and in that sense, it's well done by the author.

There is also some confusion in the mind of the heroin, after a tragic event, and the tough decisions that are taken will make the volume one more intriguing and fast paced.

Good start although I do not really like to have my mouth water without being able to put my hand on the main course!

Other books that I have read that only span a short period of time seem as if the characters and the story weren't developed well; however, this was not the case in this book. Rae Rivers's writing completely amazed me in this book due to the fact that, as mentioned before, the story takes place in about a day; yet, she was able to put so much emotion, context, and action that I was completely drawn into the lives of the characters. I absolutely loved reading this book! Having read The Keepers: Archer, the first book in the series, before I found that there were some gaps missing in the story; however, after finishing this book everything makes perfect sense. I loved getting to know the characters better in this book and it made me want to reread The Keepers: Archer.

This book is a free prequel to an upcoming series. I love a good paranormal series, so I gave it a go. I'm glad the novella is free. I didn't care for the main character, Sienna, at all--her actions smacked of 'too stupid to live' throughout the novella. Archer seems interesting as the love interest and the other keepers are engaging characters, but killing off Sarah came off as a forced plot point to 'spur the heroine on to greatness'.

Both Mason and Warrick, as the antagonists, reminded me of cartoon villains, their 'evil' so obvious and their discussions a monologue of their future plans for world domination.

The editors needed to do a better job screening out the instances of passive voice in the verb tenses. Irritating to read and takes the reader out of the story.

I will not read the rest of the series. I finished this and left The Keepers: Sienna feeling angry and annoyed.

The world of a Beckham witch and her Keepers was interesting. I'd like to have more back story about each character than jumping into a story immediately. I'm odd that way, I guess. Sienna has not mastered her new powers of all 5 elements. Archer, is one of her Keepers. He's mysterious, gorgeous, fit, etc. Mason and Warrick are the villians in this story. Mason is in love with Sienna, but again, why, what, when, where, is important to character development. I'm not sure if I'll continue reading this series. It's rather pricey. I read the sample of Book 2, The Keepers: Archer. This book is a prequel, fyi.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley. Thanks to Harper Impulse and Rae Rivers*

Sienna Beckham is a witch who has four Keepers who each have the job of protecting her.
The night starts with a carnival but ends in disaster.

With action, romance and well-developed characters this prequel was a quick but good read even if some parts were slightly predictable.

I think that this book would have been better if I had read the "first" book before it. Instead, I was left with more questions of "hey, what's the point of...?" than anything else. While I read portions of both the Netgalley ARC and the Kindle edition, I saw quite a few grammatical and spelling errors (and I don't even mean the oddly intentional errors like "tyre"). I am used to this in ARCs, but not in "already published materials."
