Need Love is a collection of 55 short stories and flash fiction exploring the theme of love and loss:

This is a book about love. The kind where the bite is bigger than the bark, where scars sting and hearts swell and throb with a vicious red pulse every time you stare into each other’s eyes; where lips bleed from passionate kisses and sunsets set ablaze the sky in a crimson smear for all the lovers beneath.

This is also a book about loss. The kind where fingertips slip and hands pull free from yours a thousand times a day and the stars in the sky are but tears waiting to run down your cheeks, chasing for you to lick them up when they trickle over the corners of your mouth; where hopeless wanderers, abandoned souls and beautiful disasters collide and then tear apart, leaving you both forever changed.

This is no radio-friendly love song; this is howling under a full moon, calling all those burned from the fabulous fire to walk through the charred remains of love and loss.

I bought Need Love after falling in love with some of the short stories present in this anthology. I had also read his novel The Haunted Hikikomori and gave that 5 stars, so my expectations were already high. I wasn't disappointed!

There are over fifty of his finest stories here to keep and treasure, some which I had read before and many which were completely new.

This book would probably appeal more to women, as the stories are very emotional, beautifully bittersweet and sometimes highly sexually charged. Some of the stories are very sexy! Others are about the delicacy of the human heart, and written in a way that makes you think the author has written directly for you.

This book has everything and has been put together in such a way that it feels as though the characters are all intertwined into one big story. Very cleverly done.

Need Love also reveals a lot about the author who bares himself to us, inviting us to take a look inside his fascinating mind, heart and imagination.

Whether this is something you keep on the coffee table for the occasional quick read or something you devour in one sitting, it will touch you deeply and have you coming back time and again.

Touching, beautiful, sexy and certainly worthy of 5 stars!

From the first heart wrenching story Lawrence had me hooked. I would point out that his book comes with a warning not a foreword!

I had already read a few of these stories before on Lawrence's blog & Twitter feed so they felt like old friends being revisited, reawakening those first feelings of reading such heartfelt raw emotions. The others added to the strength of this compilation, all dovetailing perfectly.

Need Love is a compilation of over 50 little gems of love, loss, sex, sore hearts and helplessness. He lays bare all the feelings of passion, longing, needing and loving that goes with being human.

His first story, Their Last First Kiss, actually made me cry, a very rare occurrence. In fact I stopped before reading the second story & re-read this achingly beautiful tale of love.

So be prepared to feel, really feel, raw emotions welling up from deep inside as he strips back the layers to show his, as he puts it so beautifully in his 'warning', battered heart. But you won't regret it.

Lawrence thank you and I hope that I was "careful with it".

Need love? Pearce's collection of short stories provides a complete view of all types of love. The everlasting type, like in "Their Last First Kiss", the longing type like in "A Sweltering Summer's Night", the perfect type, like in "Supermoon Love" and the wistful type that seems to be in "The Morning After." Taken together, the collection might be the story of one couple or several. The author's choice to refer to the characters as he and she gives an Everyman quality to the collection. Taken separately, the stories are reflective and seem to ask the reader, "What story is your story? Why do you need love?" I found this collection to be both heartbreaking and uplifting. The stories seem to be arranged in such a way as to keep the reader guessing and making connections about what pair of lovers' story is a continuation of another. Pearce offers a fresh perspective on relationships and delivers on his intention. Need a good read? Need Love is worth your time.
