Wiping out humanity is his number one objective—until he meets her.

Aramus has no patience or sympathy for the excuses humanity uses to hunt cyborgs down and eradicate them. He’s put up with too much at their hands to ever forgive and forget. But all that changes when he rescues a fragile human doctor who refuses to see him as a machine. She teaches him that perhaps not all emotions are a weakness and that love can make even a cynical cyborg like him stronger.

And for those who’d mock his change of view or threaten his female? Go ahead. His iron knuckles could use some exercise.

Grumpy Alpha Male Cyborg!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️🙃🥰😀
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Aramus - a cyborg who hates humanity. Though he has good reason. He has been put through too much by humans and they are out to destroy all cyborgs so he feels he is justified in wanting to do the same to them. Aramus is a grumpy male even to his cyborg friends. He is a huge male and was one of the first cyborgs that became sentient when a solar flare damaged some of his circuits and he regained some feelings and some of his human memories.

The heroine: Riley - A forensic anthropologist, she was hired by ‘The Company’ to study the bones of some alien beings and soon found herself reporting to men she would rather not be around. When she tried to leave she was basically taken captive and moved off the planet to do her research, with threats to her family to keep her in line. She was also beaten whenever she didn’t do what she was told. She couldn’t bring herself to end her life, so she was stuck.

The Story: Aramus and a crew of cyborgs were told by fellow cyborg Seth, who disappeared, to go check out certain coordinates, where they found a lava filled planet barely able to sustain life. Inside a mountain, they found a facility. Many of the women they found were undernourished and brutalized by the men. Aramus found Riley there and also found his cyborg friend Avion, who was emaciated, chained to a wall and obviously tortured.

This story was told in Aramus’ point of view via solo narration. Narration was done by Logan McAllister and I didn’t really like the narration. It wasn’t bad, but I just didn’t like the cadence of his speech. It seemed fine when he did the voices of others, especially humans, so I think it was an affectation meant to be a more computer like voice of a cyborg. It just seemed a bit monotone to me.

I really liked Aramus. He was grumpy, blood thirsty and a huge alpha male cyborg. He is the kind of guy who shocked himself over and over in order to get used to getting shocked so if humans shocked him, he could recover quickly. Riley was the kind of human who saw a man and not a machine when she looked at Aramus and the rest of the cyborgs. I liked the struggle in this one, Aramus was so determined to keep hating humans for what has been done to him and other cyborgs, that he didn’t know what to do when he was so attracted to Riley.

“If you expect me to turn into a sappy, poetry spouting idiot, think again. I don’t do flowery speeches, I don’t give compliments and I don’t cuddle.”
“Then what are we doing now?”
“Preparing for round two.”

Loved Aramus!! 5 hilariously, frustrating (Aramus is so stubborn), steamy stars!!

When I received the email informing me that this title was released, I immediately went and purchased it. I was so excited:

Aramus was evreything I've come to expect from Eve Langlais. I won't give anything away, but I will let you in on my reactions to this book.

There was lots of this:

Definitely some of this (Aramus is so stubborn!!!)...

And I have to admit, Aramus being so stuborn brought out some violent tendencies. So sometimes I pictured myself jumping into the book and doing this...

I mean, we all need some sense smacked into us sometimes!!

All-in-All, all I can say is, READ ARAMUS, you won't be disappointed!

3.5 Light Stars

Aramus is one cyborg who can't help but seriously distain humans not after all they have done to him and his fellow cyborgs, but when he meets human doctor Riley, he finds his life and perspective tilting.

An enjoyable and light re-read, one that is staying on my kindle bookshelf.

I’ve read a few of these quick, steamy SciFi romances so far this year with mixed results though more on the positive side.

Before the story starts, there was an experiment of combining human warriors with cyborg parts. They revolted and set up their own society.

Riley is stranded on a space colony, forced to do gruesome stuff to creatures that have been killed. So she’s rather relived when the colony is attacked by a group of Cyborgs bent on destroying it. Aramus is one of the leaders and he hates humans. He hates everything about them. So he is quite discombobulated when he finds himself developing feelings for Riley. He thought all feelings had been eliminated. This is a series. I’m not sure where this falls in the series but I certainly enjoyed it enough to keep going and reading more about this group.

Another fun book about the cyborgs! :D

If you read the previous books you've already met Aramus.

His hatered of humans is legendary:

"...I am perfectly content. I am the commander of this ship. I get to travel. Explore. Bring back goods for the cyborg colony.” Kill humans who got in his way. What more could a cyborg ask for?

I like Ms. Langlais's ability to bring laughter even in situation that have nothing to laugh about.

Aramus braced for the bullets sure to follow but quickly frowned as one of them yelled, “There she is. Shoot her.”
Her? Shouldn’t he be their target? How rude.

The story is as all the others: another human-hating cyborg falls in love with a human female against his better (hahahaha) judgement! :D

It is funny and it is sexy. Those cyborgs are a sexy bunch! :D

What do you think it says about me when the bloodthirsty cyborg who wants all humans to die gives me a mad case of the giggles? Okay, okay. It's not so much that he's willing to kill all humans who cross his path as how DISGRUNTLED he is when one certain human makes him FEEL things.

Ye gods! I love it when a man (or cyborg) determined to not fall prey to the love bug gets bitten in a big way.

Aramus is definitely opinionated about humans. He doesn't trust them. He doesn't like them. He doesn't think they have anything to offer. Heck, he's a cyborg. He has the ability to upgrade whenever he needs to. What can a puny human do that he can't?

That turns out to be a loaded question. Riley's acceptance of him and the way she can see right through him is a shock to Aramus's system. Her being in danger sends all his protective instincts into high gear. The fact that the two of them are compatible in the sack just rounds out the awesome.

For the record, I'm totally enamored of this series and tend to enjoy everything Eve Langlais writes. I just can't resist her surly heroes and the sassy heroines who love them.

01/19/14 reread - HA! Aramus still makes me laugh. And I'm REALLY hoping we get to see Avion get some happiness in a later book. Poor guy.

I love Cyborgs! I so want cyborgs to be the new Romance craze. So, this book makes me happy.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series. They are a bit campy so don't expect deep questions of humanity explored here but I like them.

We have a gruff badass human hating Cyborg who falls for a short BBW human. Awesome. Lots of fun. You don't have to have read the rest of the series but it will enhance your enjoyment. Really this book is a four star for me based on giddy brain candy pleasure which is all the book is meant to be.

It is well written and fast paced. Its a little short. We should get more of an HEA and living on the Cyborg world but I enjoyed every silly bit of this book.

Aramus

In the future technology has grown by leaps and bounds. A experiment turning soldiers in to cyborgs was thought to be a great advancement. Now liberated, on the run, humans are terrified of them because of the propaganda from the government. Humans are terrified of the cyborgs and the cyborgs are not fan of the humans because humans took away their choices and turned them into part machines and monsters in the eyes of the people they used to know. Aramus, one of the leaders. He is strong and loyal to his fellow cyborgs, almost a fault. He hates all humans. He has no issue killing them, if they get in his way. When one of them goes missing, Aramus and a team of cyborgs go on a mission to find out what happened. They find a human run installation with atrocities no one should have to see let alone suffer. His anger towards humans escalates even more. When they take some prisoners, doctors who were left behind, he never dreamed how much a human could affect his life.

Aramus, was wronged on so many levels as a human and holds a lot of anger towards humans because of what he and his cyborg family have suffered through. What he doesn't realize is that not all humans are bad, not all humans what to hurt him, not all humans deserve to die. When he meets a young voluptuous doctor, his world is turned upside down. He starts to question all the hate he has held onto for so long. This was an awesome read. You want to throttle Aramus at times but he grows on you as he learns how to love. And like any human in a relationship for the 1st time, he makes mistakes and hurts the ones closed to him. Eve doesn't disappoint in this futuristic love story. Be for warned it is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. This was the 1st I have read in the series and I loved it. Thanks for the great read Eve!

I barely made it thru this one. Aramus was the biggest jerk! He was soooo awful to the heroin Riley. He said the worst things, treated her like $hit, and threatened her at every turn. And Riley on the other hand was such a clueless wimp that made lame excuses to talk smack before cowering. There is absolutely no way she would fall for a guy like him, unless she had total self hatred or a severe case of Stockholm syndrome. This one has killed the series for me. I will not be reading anymore in this series. Sorry E. Langlais, I luv your books but this one was not up to your normal standards.

3.50 / 3 Stars

A nice quick, easy, enjoyable read for a lazy afternoon. Aramus was in the previous book and became the hero in this one. He's been send out with his crew to find Adam and hope to run across more of the 12 female cyborgs. Aramus receives a cryptic message from Adam that directs him to an uninhabitable planet. However, within the mountain they realize there's something going on. This is where he finds a human doctor, Riley, who has been forced to dissect deceased bodies that have been experimented on. She doesn't realize she'll never be allowed to return to earth....this was a one way destination. Until Aramus and his cyborgs come along...

This was the typical "I hate humans, I'll never be sexually interested in one", but we know this won't hold true throughout the story. When I read these books I already know the direction the H/h will take. It's the journey that's different from story to story.

Love when he falls so hard, so fast, and is upset by it! Cyborg Aramus is positive he is malfunctioning when he can’t control himself around the little human. I was certainly entertained as he figured things out 😊

I do enjoy this science fiction romance series with plenty of exciting action and its alpha cyborg men but this hero was a little too rigid. His behavior waffled from one extreme to the other and I didn't quite believe him in the end. Cyborg Aramus and his crew are on a mission to find their friend when they attack a human military experimental lab and capture doctor Riley.

3.5 fun and passion filled stars!

It is the rise of the cyborgs and these gorgeous men/machine are a work of art.

In the future, technology has advanced beyond humanity's wildest dreams. The government experiments on specially selected soldiers turning them into highly skilled, deadly but hard to kill cyborgs. They are the property of the government and have no free will or memory of their previous lives as humans. After their liberation, the cyborgs created their own community far from the human government. The cyborgs don't trust humans and the human's are suspicious and afraid of these 'monstrous creatures' all because the government propaganda told them these cyborgs are alien, bloodthirsty and very dangerous.

Aramus hates all humans and in his opinion, the only good human is a dead one. As he says:
"I am perfectly content. I am the commander of this ship. I get to travel. Explore. Bring back goods for the cyborg colony.” Kill humans who got in his way. What more could a cyborg ask for?

Doctor Riley is a victim of the governments schemes and is nothing like the cruel humans Aramus remembers. She does the unexpected, turns his world and ideas about humans upside down and makes him feel things he has never felt before.

I really enjoyed reading this book but found Aramus's stubborn nature and his refusal to see what is in front of him even when it was a bit too late to protest, very frustrating and extremely annoying. At times he was a bit of an ass-hat hero and I didn't think he deserved Riley for much of the book.
I really wanted to like Aramus but his grumpy, stubborn cyborg attitude and hard-ass persona put me off until near the end when he started to show his softer side.

Riley's instant connection/instant physical attraction to Aramus turned into love way too quickly to be believed. One look at him and Doctor Riley was deep in lust and soon head over heels in love. If he looks anything like the guy on the cover then no wonder the one glimpse of him fried her brain. There wasn't enough of an emotional impact to create such a deep connection between them and as a result, Aramus and Riley just didn't fit so well together. in my opinion.

Still, the story line was enjoyable, the cyborg history was intriguing and I loved the humour, suspense and even the angst. I really liked the fact that Riley was a brave heroine who knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to get it.

I love Eve Langlais books and I can't wait to discover the stories of several cyborgs introduced to us in this book.

these books remind me of those new species laurieann donner or w/e her name is books. except a shit ton worse and more racist

following the analogy this book haphazardly throws together i guess cyborgs are minorities and humans are white people? and somehow it's insane and bigoted for the cyborgs to be distrustful and want vengeance against humans because it's only a few that tortured and murdered them?? and if you dont automatically get over the torture you're a "racist??!!??? dumb as shit.

also even with the heel turn at the end i liked carmen the best out of all these other bitches - judgmental, hypocritical riley included. didn't like her ableist bullshit against the dude with a stutter but at least she was resourceful and didn't spend all the pages whining. wish that knife had done it's job. and why they kept bringing up the fact that she was latina randomly i do not know. making her act like a gotdamn stereotype for doing what riley's ass was doing too! use your assets girl who has the time to judge when you've been taking captive! and what the fuck was the description of a victim as either "mulatto or puerto rican"??? might as well call someone an octaroon and get it over with.

the lack of world building in this book ... tew much. riley forgave ol dude every fucking time like the doormat she is. and i was somehow bored by this almost novella length book. and those poor mute girls and david in a coma were worth nothing to nobody throughout this book. rip to them but riley different i guess. which sucks cuz i liked her at first but like a lot of books with female characters - they didn't know what to do with her.

UGHH WHY DO I TORTURE MYSELF WITH THIS SERIES? THE PLOT WAS REALLY PROMISING...I MEAN WITH THE SUPER BADASS AND STUBBORN ARAMUS CLAIMING NEVER TO FALL FOR A WOMAN YET HERE HE WILL FOR A HUMAN. BUT IT WAS PRETTY MUCH A LET DOWN.

OUR HERO is the man we meet in the previous story of Bonnie and Einstein. He has one filthy mouth, a bad temper and he despises humans so much he could just kill them with a death stare. If Only. Anyway he's on a mission blah blah blah and he encounters our heroine who is a Doctor, huddled up in a corner like a scared little mouse. I have never been one for doctor heroines....they are either too uptight or too mousy, like this one. I wanted a much more cooler heroine for Aramus...I get that the author wanted to rouse his protective instincts but it was pretty much a joke. We see Aramus blowing his top off mostly, uses her for sex then kicks her out of bed, but he's her voyeur...yea his behavior is so fucking erratic, it's just not fun to read.

OUR HEROINE was pretty much forced to do her Doctor shit on alien or cyborg victims by the government and when she was captured by Aramus...she's pretty much terrified of him. But wait, suddenly she becomes a lioness and fights back? Gahhh...no! There's no consistency here!

OVERALL i will straight up say i would like to murder these characters off the pages and have them rewritten. The plot was weak too...it's like saying okay let's just have these two make wild monkey sex and then the lame plot can just fit in for the sake of it.

This might just be my favourite story in the series yet! Langlais returns readers to the fantastic and wildly imaginative world of her cyborgs with adventure and suspense. Romance, self-discovery, and forgiveness all make an appearance as danger threatens at every turn. Langlais’ smooth and forward writing kept me wrapt as the story unfolded. She makes some of the most inane comments endlessly comical based on their context.

I love how the cyborg names span a range from normal human names to unique ones based on what the individual cyborg remembers or how they view themselves. I liked the way that Aramus was developed, both in the past and present. It gave a great deal of insight into his prejudices and temperament. I also found it intriguing to see the GI cyborg pre-liberation. It put a lot of things into context for me.

Oh Aramus, Aramus, Aramus, was it ever fun to see you eat your words. Aramus’ blunt personality is priceless. It never fails to make me giggle while also giving me a glimpse of all the pain and betrayal that he’s been through. Countered by Riley’s endlessly caring nature, Langlais has created a couple that definitely stands the test, in this world and beyond.

This was an absolutely fantastic novel to read, taking me out of this world and out of my reality while I was lost in its pages. It’s an even more unforgettable story when taken as an addition to this series.

When the cyborgs are given tipped off by own to check out a secret installation, Aramus, the most bad-ass of all the cyborgs, is sent to investigate. There, he discovers one of their fallen brethren (presumed to have died) and a human doctor, who performs autopsies on bizarrely mutated humans. Though hates humans, he feel protective toward this one because of how she’s been mistreated, and before destroying the installation, he takes her captive.
Riley knows the big, bad cyborg isn’t the monster he’s trying to convince her he is. The real monsters were the humans who beat her, enslaved her, and forced her to support their evil experiments. She’s determined to show the tough cyborg how soft his mechanical heart really is.

Like all the Cyborg: More than Machines series, the set-up and perfect complement of characters is the strong suit of the story. A cyborg who hates humans falls for a human girl. Each book makes me want to read more. This is the first series I’ve ever read in which I’ve devoured each book right in a row.

Loved it! Aramus the mighty has fallen and it's for a human! I was glad to learn Avion survived, sad that they found two females but they died before we even met them. I'm also hoping the sixth stasis chamber didn't contain a cyborg in it or if it did it was a traitor cyborg.
I loved Riley, especially for not giving up on Aramus even when he was an ass! Plus she got him to declare his love for her in front of the guys! Go Riley! Lol, I love how Aramus couldn't understand how he felt around Riley or how she affected him! So funny that he thought he needed a re-boot or a lobotomy! He was in such denial but I also love how he only had eyes for Riley and seen her as the beautiful one and not the backstabbing cow Carmen that the other cyborgs thought was the beautiful one! So sweet!
I loved Seth and his wife Anastasia (the small amount we seen of them)and with how she disarmed and pinned him I'm guessing she's cyborg too! Can't wait for their book!

I love the cyborg series. I also make it a point to buy most (if not all) of Eve Langlais' books. She just does it for me. That being said--Aramus was a good story, but it didn't hit all the notes for me. I enjoyed Aramus' crusty, hardassed persona. I even liked Riley. There were just bumps in the story that kept me from totally falling in love with them.

The pacing of the story was good. There were unfortunately certain skipped moments I think would have added emotional impact and made me more invested. I also didn't quite understand some of Riley's decisions regarding Aramus. I felt like they didn't quite fit in with the terrible ordeal she'd experienced when the book began. I don't regret buying this book. I simply hope for more oomph with the next.

Probably more of a 3.5 but rounded up as I love so much of Eve's stuff.

While this was good. Aramus is a bit of a prick and not terribly likeable, even when he starts to gain a bit of his humanity back.

With the last book, Seth is missing, and Aramus is now sent out on a mission to go to the mysterious coordinates Seth left before he disappeared.

The crew of the SS Bite Me (fabulous ship name BTW), finds a secret research lab and liberates a few of the crew, some cyborgs, and also find out about some frankenstein-esque creations involving melding alien & human DNA.

Aramus begins to fall for Riley, a doctor who was held captive and forced to work for the company. Sadly, Riley falls just as hard for Aramus despite his assholish tendencies.

I'm a fan of sci-fi erotica, and picked "Aramus" after reading another book in Langlais's "More Than Machines" series.

Aramus, a cyborg, never met a human he didn't want to kill...until he meets Riley Carmichael, a forensic anthropologist, when he rescues her during a raid on a secret research facility where she's being held against her will. He fights his attraction to her...until he doesn't, and then lots of hot sex happens.

Riley's the smart, caring, plucky heroine who falls hard for the angry, remote, but really tender-hearted hero who saves her. And they live HEA. Neither of these characters has much depth, and both are fairly typical of the genre. There's just not that much to the story, so sadly...just 2 stars.

Riley thought she got a break when she landed a great job out in space, but when she left the world, the company took over. Being more slave than worker she´s gotten used to beatings and namecalling.
Then the cyborgs come.
Aramus is no fan of humans, raiding a secret facility he´s no stranger to killing anyone. But the doctor fascinates him, and soon awakens feelings he can´t ignore.
Great read, smutty fluff, cyborgs and suspense. Got to read the first books in this series!

I have been waiting for Aramus' story from the beginning. I just knew that the cyborg who hated humans would end up in a romance with a human and I was right. He didn't fall easily, but he did fall hard. The action of the series story arc was really strong in this one which I liked too. Loved Riley as the sweet, feisty heroine and perfect for crusty Aramus. This one is a tie with book one for best in the series so far. Hot, humorous and exciting!

Another great edition to this series. I did not want to stop reading...stayed up to 2am to finish it and had to get up for work at 6am.
Aramus gets a shock when despite swearing he would never fall in love and especially not with a dreadful human, he does exactly that...against his will. He falls hard and it's sweet.
I can't wait for Seth's story.
