In this companion novel we have Jake and Abby again. It starts one year after the end of their book and they are finally getting married after a year-long engagement.
This are chaotic, with their popularity of the charts and they having no privacy at all or a large amount time to be alone. But that’s their life and as long they have their music they are already used to it.
But now they are taking time for themselves and finally having the HEA they deserve.

description

But what comes after the romantic wedding and the almost perfect honeymoon?
When is time for them to go back to the real world, their problems begin. They start to finding out that their priorities aren’t the same, the world keeps getting on the way and married life isn’t as perfect as they make it seem.
They know they’ll love each other, and they always try to be the strength the other needs, but in the end, how can you keep your happily ever after if in the end of the day you both want different things?

description

What can I say about this?
I loved their book so this was an awesome surprise for me. I loved to see more of them and I especially loved to see how they ended. Can’t wait for book three! :D

Storyline: Sweet, with a little twists and some heartbreaking moments. In short: Amazing.
Writing Style: Great, as always. Katie Ashley can draw us into a story like no one else! First person, dual POV.
Character Development: Abby was sweet and all-around-good-girl as always. Jake had some drawbacks to his asshole days but most of the time I loved him anyway. Not only the MC were pretty good, but also the supportive characters are very well written.
Steam: Pretty hot.

I don’t even know how to express how much I absolutely love reading anything that Katie Ashley writes. I think I would fall completely in love with her shopping list if she ever published it!

Jake & Abby’s story continues in Music of the Soul, they’ve fallen in love, struggled through Jake battles with commitment and his darkness when they suffered a great loss. Now we get to follow them on a new journey, down an aisle. A pathway that leads to their future and the beginning of their forever.

They learn the tough lessons that love isn’t always kind and that those that love you the most are the ones that can hurt you the deepest. Jake knows the strength that is deep within Abby, she carried him when his world fell apart; so when Abby silently fractures she suffers in isolation.

Abby’s love was what saved Jake, she’s been his angel, his anchor and now it’s Jake’s turn to give Abby shelter in her own personal storm. They’ve met their share of challenges, fought hard, loved even harder and now they learn what it means to truly love someone as deeply as they love each other.

There was so much emotion packed away into this novella. Moments where your heart soared and moments when your heart broke. It is utterly amazing that Katie Ashley was able to put so much into this without making you feel that it was ever too much. I am not sure if there is anyone out there that has not read something from Katie Ashley, but if by chance there are a few out there - what are you waiting for?

This novella takes us from the start of their life as husband and wife and a few years into the future. You get to see the whole gang grow and experience their own blessings all while keeping the focus on these two. Jake and Abby’s story has been my favorite so far of this series and although I expect that I will fall in love with Rhys when his time comes, I have a feeling that Jake & Abby are destined to remain one of our favorites through the years.

A fantastic read that gives you a beautiful romance, a rock star who knows how to keep it in his pants and a story where the drama is not fabricated with extreme situations, but with real life events that touch so many.

Who doesn't love a good wedding? Jake and Abby make a commitment to love each other forever on a beautiful island in paradise. We follow them through the first 1-2 years of married life as they adjust to everything that life throws at them. They have spats, someone sleeps on the couch one night but they always seem to find a middle ground eventually.

Jake is determined to give Abby everything her heart desires, within reason. However, sometimes choices can be taken away from you, no matter how famous your are so they have to overcome some big challenges in their relationship. Working through things that are difficult can be very character building but also strengthen a relationship too.

These two are definitely tested but things will work out in the end, they always do right?

We are cordially invited to attend the event we have been waiting for--Jake and Abby's destination wedding. Along the way there is sadness, humor, romance, and steam. Jake and Abby have been so good together since we met them in Music of the Heart. Abby pulled Jake from a dark place and continues to be his Angel.

I didn’t care if she bossed me around for the next fifty years just as long as she was in my life. I’d never imagined loving anyone as much as I did Abby. Without flinching, she had reached into the very darkest places of my soul to bring me back to the light. She’d shown me what the true, unfailing love of a good woman was. I would be forever in her debt.

We go on their honeymoon and the beginning of their married lives together. They are young, successful, share a love of music and performing, have great friends, smoking chemistry, and a good rapport. They are living their dreams together. But just because they are committed and married does not mean that their future is always going to be easy. They have diverging life scripts at times and both have some different needs and insecurities. Their lives are good, but Abby still has a longing for something more and Jake still resists for his own reasons. And situations occur that cause fear, mistrust, misunderstandings, and pain. There are plot twists, difficult issues, and challenges that these two have to navigate and they are not always easily resolved.

Abby and Jake really have to face their insecurities and fears in order to find common ground at times. Jake has a lot of emotional baggage still lurking under the surface and Abby is fearful she will not be able to have the one thing her heart truly desires. They may not have been a couple that argued a lot normally, but they differ on some big issues. And even when things seem to be heading in the right direction, roadblocks and potholes can change their direction quickly.

“I’m no good for her.”~Jake
“That’s not true, Jake. Abby loves you with all her heart and soul.”~Mia
“Sometimes I think I’m a curse for her.”

This was an emotional journey. It really showed the maturing of Jake and Abby and their relationship. Their relationship shifted at times on who was giving and who was taking and they had to strike a balance. My heart literally broke for each of them at various times. So much happened that I do not think Katie would have been able to give us this much detail and emotion if the story had been built into the background of one of the other full books. This novella really bridges the gap between Beat of the Heart (AJ's story) and the upcoming Strings of the Heart (Rhys'story). Even though Rhys was not that big a part of this novella, there is teasing for his upcoming story and we see what happens to the other couples during the time period between the two books. I am totally interested in his story and can see all kinds of drama unfolding.

I really loved this one even more than I thought I would. It packed so much in and had my emotions all over the place! There are so many life events, not just for Jake and Abby, but for the rest of the band as well. This one had some joy, sweetness, romance, drama, tension, steaminess, and pain. I cried from being happy at times and just heartbroken or emotional at others. There were times that I literally gasped out loud(I think I even cursed at my kindle). My heart was beat up and bruised a bit. But there were also times of humor and playfulness as well.

I loved getting more of the boys of the band and Rhys, AJ, Brayden, and their sassy women Mia and Lily. The friendship, love, and humor between these characters make me smile and laugh out loud. Even though I wanted to smack Jake at times during this one, it also made me remember how much I really do like him. He can be an asshat, but can also be sweet, romantic, and protective. He really had a lot of soul searching to do in this one. I love him and Abby together and was rooting for their happiness the whole time. And I still adore...yes, adore AJ. He cracks me up and I love seeing him with his "girls". Rhys also had me laughing as he is the last man standing alone beside all of his domesticated band mates. And the women are tough and feisty, but also so caring and nurturing to all of the guys. I really enjoy spending time with them and I love how closely tied they all are. They support, they love, they fight, but they stay together and are a family. I cannot wait for more of the whole crew and Rhys' story in Strings of the Heart.

When you fell into my life, I was shattered beyond repair
But as the shining angel of redemption, you didn’t seem to care
While the tempest swirled around me, you led me to solid ground
You’re the purest, deepest love a man like me has ever found.
There is a fire that burns within me that only you can ignite
You’re the light that fills my soul in the darkest, bleakest night
You’re the balm that cures the wound; the life-line in the storm.
You are the song of my heart, the music of my soul

Wonderful novella about Jake and Abby we first met in Music of the Heart.

We all kinda knew that this was going to be the story of their wedding, but I never could have expected what else this couple would have to go through.

The author does a great job with pulling out so many emotions. Already from the first chapter, I was a blubbering mess.... poor Jake...

I laughed, I cried, I felt angry, I felt happy, I felt empty and I cried some more...

Along with many surprises, we get a wonderful, but somehow painful story about two hearts that become one soul.

Do not hesitate, 1-click this!

Since I have read and liked Music of the Heart, the first of the series, I am very much excited to see this follow up of Abby and Jake's story.

In this book, you get to experience their romantic wedding...

.... the honeymoon... and then their first big disagreement as married couple...

I love Abby, she only wants what every girl wants, a dream husband, to have children and their happily every after. But she supports and understands Jake.

Now, Jake on the other hand, he has issues... and he is being an ass... but with reason... still an ass. But he redeemed himself after big time and that was really cute.

This is well written and is under both POV's. What is a happily every after without the bumps along the way to get there?

It is hot, sweet and with just the right amount of angst. A must read if you've read their first book.

I didn't realize for some reason that Abby and Jake were getting another story. So when I saw the author post about it on FB I ran and bought it. My only disappointment was it was just a novella. I would have liked it to be a little long and give us more between the scenes but I see now the whole point of the story.

Jake is excited to be marrying Abby, but he still has "secrets" and demons in his closet, and he sends them out to Abby a few times in this story. I didn't like the way he talked to her all the time but I could see the pain he was dealing with while he was doing all of that.

Abby goes through something pretty heartbreaking, and it changes things for Jake, or so we think, turns out it really didn't which causes and issue for them as a married couple but it's interesting to see if they will be able to come to an agreement or if one will just surrender and give into the other's wishes. I was a little worried that Abby would do just that.

It's hard to not spoil on this book, so I have to be really vague because the subject of this book is through the ENTIRE book.

I liked seeing AJ and Mia and their sweet little girl!

Way way way better than Music of the Heart.

This time around we get to see more of Jake and Abby. This proves the test of their relationship in getting married and then growing together as a couple. I liked how the author actually kept to the storyline and it flowed. Here we get to understand Jake's insecurities and always Abby's sweet nature.

But all I can say is ‘Music of the Soul’ will leave you with tears, tragedy sometimes angst and a happiness all around.

Another winner for Katie Ashley! Not that I expected anything less than perfection, but this novella was simply perfect. A fine addition to the Runaway Train series. The writing was flawless with lush expression, which allowed for great visual reading. Things flowed effortlessly and without pause. I must say this is now one of my favorite writings by Katie.

Everyone loves Jake Slater. How can you not love the notorious womanizing rock star that was swept off his feet by the beautiful Angel, Abby Renard. Jake and Abby found love unexpectedly in Music of the Heart and now we experience their ever after.

Katie continued strong with the character flow by incorporating all our favorites, allowing them to develop along side of Jake and Abby. Yes, yours truly, AJ Resendiz, the smooth moving Latin lover, graces us with his presence very often throughout the book.

Jake and Abby's romance is crazy HOT -scorching! Jake Slater is a sexy romantic.

"You’re the balm that cures the wound; the lifeline in the storm.
You are the song of my heart, the music of my soul.”

Swoon...

There are so many surprises in this story. I wish I could list them all and go on and on about how much I loved the unexpected, but I won't ruin it for anyone. I especially loved that they toured in Louisiana and sang Jackson by Johnny Cash and June Carter ---> LOVED THAT.

The conclusion was simply perfect. Everything about the story was perfect. Thank you, Katie Ashley, for writing this story and sharing these amazing moments with us.

I have to admit I wasn't a fan of book 1, Music of the Heart. But for some reason I decided to keep reading the series and I'm glad I did. I really liked A.J.'s story. I also enjoyed this book, Music of the Soul, a novella centered around the wedding and newlywed life of Jake and Abby. Jake is a big reason I didn't like book 1 but he has grown on me.
On the 1st night of their honeymoon Jake and Abby have a major disagreement about something pretty heavy, something they should have discussed prior to getting married imo.
Fast forward a year, a tragedy strikes that forces the Slaters to face their biggest fears. That's when the story really started to pull me in. Katie's writing made me feel for them. I even teared up a little. A very sweet book. I'm looking forward to Rhys's story!

4 stars!

It's been awhile since I've read the 1st MUSIC OF THE HEART, and I'm a big fan and I didn't expect a follow up on their story, and I'm happy that there is.

What can I say? I love it! I love the author, and I've read THE PROPOSITION series that I love to bits!

This one is a short story, but it got me. I was actually making my own scenarios based on the story that totally got my eyes bloodshot. what?

ANyways, I love the story, it's totally HOT!!!! and the story mainly focused on Jake's issues about having their own child...

Read this novel, it's totally worth it!

2.5 stars...

There were moments that I liked the book and then there were moments that I thought it was ok. This was a really strange feeling for me because I liked Jake and Abby's story in Book 1. But for me, I really thought I could do without this novella. I liked about the first 20% and then after that, it was really just ok. And honestly, that's my overall impression and all I can say about this. I guess I expected more, and the conflict that was there wasn't enough for me.

GENRE: Rockstar Romance

LENGTH: Short-ish; 201 pages

MAIN CHARACTERS:
Jake Slater: Lead-singer of Runaway Train; has some trouble with married life because of his father issues.
Abby Renard: Lead singer of Jacob's Ladder and Jake's fiancee/wife who tries to help him with his issues, and always be there for him.
A.J., Brayden, and Rhys: Jake's band mates and best friends.
Mia: A. J.'s wife and Abby's good friend
Allison: Jake's little half sister
Lily: Brayden's wife and Abby's good friend

LIKES:
We get to see more of Jake and Abby's relationship together as a married couple
The babies!!
We get to hear more about the other band mate's life together with their partners
How sweet Jake could be sometimes.

DISLIKES:
When Jake was being a jerk to Abby!
The fact the guys didn't wear suits to the wedding; i had a rough time picturing the guys wearing khakis, with a white button down shirt, and pink very. (no offense but it just seems very awkward to me!)

OVERALL THOUGHTS ABOUT BOOKS: I'm absolutely ecstatic that we got to see what happens when Jake and Abby get their happily ever after. I thought some parts were kind of slow in this book and I kind of expect just a bit more drama. But besides that, I can't say any bad things about this book. I love this series and I just can't seem to get enough of Runaway Train!

STEAM LEVEL: eh, some parts were

DOES IT END IN A CLIFFHANGER?: Nope :)

FAVORITE QUOTES:
"You shouldn't even have to ask. You have a part in every single thing in my life, Angel. You're every word in this song--every note. Only the purest and sweetest melody could be inspired by you."

"I'm a true steel magnolia, so of course, I wanted some blush and bashful in my wedding." Gotta love Steel Magnolias lol.

"You know, from the time Abby was born, Laura and I prayed that God would send her a companion. Someone she could spend her life in love with. Someone to support her in the good times and bad and be her true soul mate. Of course, we didn't expect him to come in a package of a tattooed rock star." It's never who you expect :)

"He was right--I could never find another woman who meant as much to me as Abby did. After all, she is my world." No words just tears...happy tears though!

FINAL RATING: 4.25 stars!

WOULD I RECOMMEND?: Yes

Music of the Soul captures the most important moments of Jake and Abby’s lives. From a destination wedding and a hot and steamy honeymoon on a lonely island to concert tours. Although at first it seems that things are going perfectly for Jake and Abby, life soon starts to throw blow after blow at them that will threaten their relationship and their future together. But it may just be the couple’s inner struggle and the reluctance to share their deepest fears and worries with each other that might end the epic love story that began with an accidental meeting.

My reading experience with this novella could be summed up by the word »meh«, accompanied with a lot of eye rolls and a few laughs. The wedding part of the novella was the hardest to get through. It was so cheesy with Jake waxing poetically about everything connected to Abby and I cannot tell you the number of times the phrase »only you« was used in one form or another. After the wedding we got to the honeymoon which was the best part of the novella for me. A lot of sexy times that were written really well and with a conflict or two between Jake and Abby to spice things up and show us that those two are not going to be the rare two people in the world with an absolute perfect marriage, no matter how idyllic their relationship has been for the past few months.

Soon Runaway Train and Jacob's Ladder are back on tour and that's when the real drama began. I was glad to read about Abby and Jake's struggle with having different priorities at the moment and not having everything go the way they’ve hoped for, not because I reveled in their pain but just because I feared that they would be one of those couples whose relationship was extremely rocky at first but now they're living in pure bliss. It was good to see how Jake and Abby dealt with big life problems as a couple, how it shaped their marriage and changed the dynamic between them. Although this last part was a bit drawn out beyond the necessary and I kept checking to see when I would reach the end.

MUSIC OF THE SOUL (RUNAWAY TRAIN 2.5) by KATIE ASHLEY

I have loved this series from the very beginning. This is a kind of series with the right amount of romance, sex & funny scenes and the characters are definitely a group of different personas that blend well together. In this book, we get to see a Jake and Abby that have matured and given a situation that will test their love for each other.

What I like about this book is how Katie showed how strong of a woman Abby is. She’s not the innocent & sweet girl we have met in book 1 anymore. She is a mature, beautiful and strong woman who knows what she wants and know what she deserves. Call me a sexist but I salute how beautiful Katie wrote the scenes with Abby. It was with pure determination and love.

While Abby was this strong woman who is always in Jake’s side, Jake was in a dark place. Okay, the story did not start that way but there were so much emotional roller coaster ride in the story that Jake had to go somewhere dark and Abby was once again there to save him. Katie Ashley showed the challenges married couple had to go through in Abby & Jake’s story and was able to give a genuine story of acceptance, forgiveness and love.

It was a beautiful story and Katie Ashley didn’t just end it there. She gave us a snippet of what’s to come in the second book. ;) Runaway Train series about family, friendship and romance. A kind of series that you will enjoy from start to finish and will want more. Rhys’ story is up next, I cannot wait what Katie have in stored for us.

"Tienes una parte en cada una de las cosas de mi vida. Eres cada palabra en esta canción, Ángel.. cada nota."

description

My first book to read in 2014! And it didn't disappoint. I love this series from Katie Ashley.

Jake and Abby had that soul mate love. After everything they had been through, they were finally getting married. But it's not always smooth sailing even for those that are meant to be. It's time for Jake to step up and be the strength that Abby was for him in the past. Will he be able to step up to the plate or will demons from his past help to slowly push Abby away.

I love Jake and Abby. Even though they are celebrities, they still have everyday problems like the rest of us. They are grounded because of Abby and her love for Jake. And I loved seeing AJ and Mia, Bray and Lily and the set up for Rhys and his story next. Fans of the series will not be disappointed and if you haven't read the series...add it to your TBR list. Its a fun and hot read.

This book will take you on an emotional roller-coaster. Jake and Abby are finally getting married you think that would be the greatest thing for them. It is but then comes real life, Abby has always wanted to be a mother and with Jake's background he is not sure he is ready to be or if he will ever be. This is a cause for a few fights between the two of them the first being on their honeymoon. You would think it would be a good topic to hash out and find out where they want to go next but both are so in love with the other they don't want to say the wrong thing to losses the person they love. This book is about standing up and going for what you want even when it hurts. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

What great addition to this series. I loved Jake and Abby in book 1 and was totally excited when I heard this novella was coming out. It was a great continuation to their story. I loved that even though this was a novella and a quick read, it covered the first 2 years of Jake and Abby's married life. It showed the happy times as well as the not so happy times. We got to share in their struggles, but we also got to see that in the end, as long as you have love, trust, and family you can get through anything together :)

I also loved that we got to see all the other band mates in this book too. It was great getting updates on what was happening with them too.

This is definitely a must read if you are a fan of Katie Ashley's or a fan of this series :)

Music of the Soul gives a short glimpse into Jake and Abby's life after the events of Music of the Heart. I adore these two characters and Music of the Soul reminded me why. Jake is a more mature version of himself and Abby is still the same sweetheart she was when Jake met her. They compliment each other so well. The passion they both have for their music, their friends and family, and most of all each other is consuming. It's hard to not adore them. I love how the author wrapped up their story in this novella. They are two characters truly meant to be.

I'm the kind of person who like the happily ever after story. Epilogues are definitely my thing and this short book telling their wedding the other characters life, and like so many people, the difficulty to have a family start and What it takes to build a family is really realistic and sweet. Can't wait for the next book.

Great novella of my two faves from this series. It hit an issue a lot of married couples go through which made it an emotional read.
